I have the exact same bike but with the adjustable height feature. I just completed a four-day ride across America, and I loved it. All the complaints you bring up are minor annoyances that aren’t relevant after you spend a lot of time with the bike. The motor is better, the suspension is better, the wind protection is better, and the automatic height control is a game changer for me and my 30” inseam. The stability of this bike is what really amazes me - out in the desert, I was running at 90+ MPH and it felt like I was doing 50. BTW, I did have the 1250 GS, so I do know the differences...
This bike (these sorts of bikes) is (are) designed specifically for high speed cross continental touring. I'd guess minor niggles would fade on such a jaunt.
Great review Andy. Getting a bit tired of the magazines who can't afford not to suck up to Herr BMW. Truly objective honest and balanced. This is why we watch you mate. Keep it up and thank you.
I have found the KEY to watching The Missenden Flyer as an American. It is simple, .75 speed on the video in RUclips settings, and I can understand him just fine. Awesome, good info from a good bloke, at .75 speed.
@@d33b33 Snatch, or Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels. for sure. That's why you buy the Trophy version and not those executive flash versions with fancy colors and indicators that will break on the first day on the trail.
Totally agree on the road presence and masculinity of the previous GS’s Andy, think I’ll be sticking to my 1200 for a while and when I am ready to change it’ll probably be for a 1250….save myself a bag of cash as well. Great video as always 👍
Lots of cars get around this by switching off the offending light (be it a tail light/headlight/DRL) while the indicator is flashing. The problem goes away all of a sudden. The light is then switched back on once the indicator is cancelled. I'm really surprised that a manufacturer like BMW hasn't embodied a simple and safe solution like this. I fully agree that the indicators are lost on this bike, which could be lethal.
teapotone has a video on a possible better set up for the lights from a company in England somewhere and he applied it to his new GS, makes the lights work far better, could be a solution for someone that really wants the bike but put off by the lights current set up.
It's just not an issue, at the rear the braking is the important thing, Indicating less so. The number of people who install tail tidys and such tiny little lights the amount of comments on this is ridiculous
These videos on the new 1300gs are the best out there, you have covered pretty much everything about living with the bike that is invaluable to a prospective purchaser. Everyone already expected it to be up on power etc but you have highlighted lots of other important things to which a buyer tends to come across after ownership. Massive well done Andy on setting the benchmark with your review, really enjoyed it mate 100% 👍👍👍
Respect for the honesty of your review. Very well done ✅ I test rode and ordered a GS 1300 last November..it didn't turn up on March 1st as had been promised. The dealer couldn't give me any clarity/information about when the bike or the withheld luggage would become available, and with all the niggles surfacing on social media, with some being rather significant, I decided to cancel the order. I've booked several tours for this year, and luggage is required. Also the rear lights issue, and having to go into the menu to adjust heated grips, screen etc, were beginning to look a bit like a safety issue..I'd rather be watching out for the ever increasing hazards we have to negotiate than fiddling with switches...I went straight out and bought a Multistrada V4 Rally ...and I'm extremely pleased with it...could be quite some time before I go looking for another GS 😏. BMW have taken their eye off the ball.. big time !
Excellent, as always, very useful! Also, many thanks for speaking at a good pace. It's nice not having to speed up an in-depth bike vid, for a change. Cheers!
At night when looking at the horizon or just beneath: The angle of the headlight needs to be well separated from the angle of the eyeline..because: We need a shadow for depth perception. If your eyeline is close to the headlight.. you won’t see a decent shadow, which CAN be a major issue at night when a post is pointing AT You. Think of a speed hump or deep pothole. We need the shadow man ! Love your review, very grateful for your experience on the bike for months. So many little gems in your review. They may delay the 1300 Adventure after you and others find this “ First “ of the new range has so many things that BMW could address easily before launching the 1300 with a real adventure tank. Will it be the 1400GSA ?
Thanks Andy for this excellent update. The price I found is so expensive, especially if you want extras added. I ended up buying the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT plus. It has amazing tech, superb engine, and smooth and lovely to ride. Panniers included too all for £14,900. It has the adaptive cruise control, centre stand great TFT. So my view is why spend so much, ( Unless money is no object } if you can get all you need for so much less. Love your channel Andy.
Your point about the cost of speccing up a BMW is well made. And don’t forget that the price of these “extras” will melt away when it comes to trade-in time. A salesman once explained to me that options bought with a new bike don’t necessarily increase its value compared to the base model, they just make it easier to sell. I also have to say that every time I look at a Boxer twin, I do wonder if the first ever motorcycle was being designed in the 21st century, would it have two cylinders sticking out sideways? I remember at age 16 in 1969, being completely being blown away by the Honda CB750 and the Kawasaki Z900. Suddenly all the singles and twins dating from the pre-WW2 period looked very antiquated, and that feeling has stayed with me!
Brilliant comprehensive review, well done. I have learnt a lot from your 1300 uploads, cheers. Enough so that I am not buying one. 1250 will be my last BMW.
Ive got the R1200 GS LC from 2013. If there is still a GS I would swap it for (although that’s not my plan any time soon: I still love the bike to bits), it would be a 2nd hand 1250 GS. In my opinion BMW totally lost it with their design, both for their motorbikes as well as their cars. Perhaps our generation is not that interesting to them anymore.
@@wimdriessens864 Exactly, and agree that their design in cars are not much better. I've loved riding for 49 odd years (start at 7), and now have both the 1200 and 1250 in the garage. The 1200 is almost perfect, so happy with it. My take on the 1250 after 1 months riding is that it is slightly more refined, smoother and the gearbox is much better. TFT is ok, not that much better than the old. The new Nav6 is much better, than 5. Also I prefer the vario cases of this generation, new ones are heavy and weird shape. Spoke the the BMW saleman and he too mentioned that they went a bit too far with the 1300, so the used 1250's sell well. Happy Safe Riding, cheers.
Enjoyed that honest review, thanks. I looked at one of these also in the green with all the toys. My wife sat on it and also found the seat too hard. That was the deal breaker 😄
Very good review, but especially at £23k seems somewhat underwhelming. Maybe sticking to the base option at £16k - getting that great engine - but foregoing some of the bells and whistles is the way to go on this bike.
Thanks for the detailed review of the new GS. I was at my local BMW dealer today and was able to sit down on two with the adaptive height option. One had a normal seat and the other had a low seat. I am 5' 8" with a 30" inseam. I put both feet flat to the ground on the one with the low seat. On the normal seat I am on the balls of my feet. Even with adaptive height both bikes were still hard to get off the side stand. By comparison I sat on a 2024 1250 GS Adventure with low suspension. I was able to get both feet flat and getting off the side stand was much easier. I think if I bought a 1300 GS I would be fabricating a longer side stand.
With respect to the look of the bike, the green and gold do it for me - this is the one that I'm going to purchase. The 719 bling, I wish I didn't have to buy it...not because I think it looks bad, but most of it you can't see - who cares what the footpegs, rear brake lever and shifter look like? Likewise, you can't really see the brake and clutch levers...the only thing you (and most other people) will be able to see are the cylinder heads and the brake and clutch reservoir covers. And the lower engine crash bars that BMW makes looks like they cover the cylinder heads up. Really, the best bit of 719 kit was the mirrors that came on the triple black 1250. I understand it wouldn't be easy for BMW to have a 719 mirror, with the electronics that have to fit in the mirrors now, but it's a shame...they were sharp looking.
Brilliantly balanced review Andy answering a lot of our queries. Hopefully BMW Motorrad listen to people like you and plan to resolve the teething issues. It’s a great bike but the launch onto market has not been the smoothest with all the niggles so the expectation that BMW get it right with the Adventure is now even greater. I watched Scott ( Nothing to Prove on youtube ) getting Touratech luggage fitted and basically the back end of the bike had to have major surgery so there’s not the same flexibility we had with the old bikes.
Congrats on what will probably be your last BMW review Andy 😂.. it’s good to see folks talking about these bikes from an ownership pov, from a GS owner, away from the sunshine launches 🌞
Great in-depth review of the GS Andy a lot of money for a full spec bike £23,000 when you can get a lot of bikes with the same spec for £5000 to to £7000 less. All bikes are good nowadays as long as they put a smile on your face 😀
I'm sure you could put something over the rada cover like a flag sticker or something. Maybe some aftermarket options will come up with some ideas and I'm sure you could fit a rear light
Very useful video. Thanks! As a longtime BMW rider I'm not sold on this one. It's not one thing, but the whole package does not excite me. Probably, it's the increased complexity, the lack of pillion comfort coupled with the high price. Spare me the fancy 719 Tramontina details and avoid the exaust from rusting out after only 4 months. Shameful for a 24,000£ bike. Or perhaps it's just the natural evolution of things where BMW moved from being focused on a great ride to become a techky "Star Trek Enterprise" type of machine.
Really good video and very informative and enjoyable to watch like the rest of your content. Just taken delivery of my triple black GS 1300 and degree with the comments on making the heated grip and windscreen control is more complex. I am a taller rider and have picked up that there are two positions for the windscreen. You can un-bolt it and move it to a higher position. Perfect!
Nice Bike, great review. I went and had a look at one the other day. Just stopped in to pick up some oil and filters. One of the guys was nice enough to show me the demo. The blue one. Standard seat with adaptive ride, fit me like a glove. Tons of tech l never figure out. Heavy Rain. Didn't ride it. Just as well, might have bought one. The 1200 is still a great bike. The heated seat, radar and adaptive cruise would be nice.
Excellent follow up with your time on the Green Machine 👍 My Tramuntana arrived one week ago today so I am still in the honeymoon stage. It handles like my baby GS, rather than the 1250 👍👍Very nimble indeed 😁 I just hope it does well in cross winds. I'm only 5ft 6in with a 29" inseam so the adaptive ride height and low comfort seat was a must. It is not so bad pulling it off the sidestand. My biggest niggle so far is the shifter is too low, even in the highest setting. Anyone with longer legs their toes are pointed more downward. I also come from an off road background riding tall mx bikes. I have Touratech engine crash guards coming and just received the Hepco & Becker handlebar guards to protect those pretty turn indicators. I am leaning toward the SW Motech soft panniers with the quick release frame brackets. I am looking forward to a great summer!
Yes with the auto lowering option the side stand isn’t an issue - it’s if you don’t have that option the bike is a haul. Good move avoiding the BMW panniers….enjoy your new machine, an incredible ride!
As usual excellent and balanced content, I notice that the Yellow peril is still gathering dust in your man den! as we've discussed previously the roads of North Yorkshire with a retired Yorkshire man aboard would be the way forward. Keep up the good work.
I have enjoyed this long term series it really gives you the opportunity to explore the different environments a bike is used in which would match what your viewers do. I think people’s comments on the price are getting a bit repetitive and have been playing round on the configurator and I was getting a range of £18.5k to £19.5k for a spec completely acceptable for my requirement, people do not need the bling the core bike is still the same no matter how many bells and whistles you throw at it, also I don’t think it’s far off the price of the 1250GSA. Wishing you a speedy recovery from the operation.
I have that exact same bike but with the black enduro forged wheels as I hate cleaning bikes. I'm about 1500 miles in now and the only two things I really dislike about it is the road noise from the front end and the Connected Ride Navigator. A change from the Metzlers it came with might change the noise, and I sold the CRN and stuck a Garmin Zumo XT2 on, which is beyond fantastic. There are a few minor niggles with the electronics to sort out but I trust future updates will sort that. Its a great machine and even more fun to ride than my beloved 1250GSA. Which I'll never sell. Thanks for all the video's, they're great.
Unless you are eating the miles and going on the autobahn and regularly carrying a passenger then I think the big GS are overkill. I’m opting for smaller and lighter. Suzuki V Storm 650 for example. Great videos. Thanks.
Good points TMF. Here in New Zealand the 1300 starts at $46000 and that's before the dreaded 'Extras'. When you consider that my Honda NT1100 DCT cost $23500 with a topbox that puts BMW's pricing into perspective. Personally I still think that the 1250 looks better and the 1250 RS would still be my first choice as I prefer the looks.
Very interesting!! I've just sold my R1200GSA, am getting on a bit and found it too cumbersome at times. It's plenty quick enough... I didn't want any more power than the 1200 offers. I hadn't S1000XR before and scored highly in the penalty points competition!!! 😂 ... I nearly won a bicycle. Am now thinking of a 2013 1200rt, which in my mind is a nicer bike than the later lc rt which carries too much weight up front. I also think that the RS is very under rated, but they are hard to find in Ireland. Keep up the great work with the videos!
Yet another quality production Andy! Your videos should be recognised as studio quality and thus go on to mainstream media outlets. Theres nothing on tv anymore showing reviews and motorcycle themed shows, other than Henry Cole and occasional Steve Berry repeats. Perhaps some talent scout will launch you into stardom then more of us will benefit from your excellent productions. In the meantime i will stick with my 2019 V-Strom 650.
@@TheMissendenFlyer i bought a corolla in 2019 and sold it because i got sick of having to press 7 buttons each time i started it to get my previous preferences... its just bonkers how little things add up and can ruin good experiences. Love your work.
Great summary review Andy. You hit all the highs and lows that seemed mention worthy. My 1300 should arrive at my local dealer in about a month, so I am told. My 2019 1250GSA was a great introduction to the GS world but I think the sporty on-road part of the riding experience is where my heart most often goes. Hope the 1300 is all that it seems to be on that department. Will search for something additional (and also smaller) for off road adventures.
Now I've bought one I rewatched this I've no radar cover on the back of mine and have fitted the Weiser Technik module and the Denali rear light a great improvement and why didn't BMW Front panel is still there but covered by the screen and looks so much better I never had back lights on any bike and know exactly where the switches are, and top 2 functions are assigned Did want radar sat nav or Akra Range is acceptable and better than the 1250 and 1200 The comfort seat is adjustable and my comfort seat with the adaptive ride height is brilliant Givi now do a specific plate for the rear rack The green is IMO awfull Trophy colours are very nice I still have my other GS and my Speed 400 but this is without doubt the best of the 64 plus bikes I have owned Absolutely the best multi purpose bike avalible The windscreen as you said is superb The handling is also very good I will be off to Europe with a pillion latter this year so will get some feedback on that Ther is a bar under both seats to adjust and I have fitted the front rubber adjusters from the 1250 I have the Conected Ride from my other GS and it's a great bit of kit It's very easy to get on the centre stand the adaptive ride lifts it as the stand touches the ground Great review and yes the Paineirs have been recalled and now another for the starter relay Thanks for the review
Its time that BMW designs a complete new GS. More retro. Round headlight etc. When I see that Kawasaki and Triumph in your garage I think: yes, that are bikes that really look good!
9:23 I thought the Akra exhaust slip on at £925 sounded like a rip-off but then you said the luggage was over £1500 😰 Best to shop elsewhere for some of those extras. But a cost you can't really avoid is the paint scheme which is you want the standard triple black, will cost an extra £800!
I had a 2019 S1000RR - couldn't agree with you more about the indicators, nearly got taken out by two cars - both of whom said they couldn't see my indicators. Changed them for US spec one's (non LED) it did solve the problem.
Mine is currently having a new engine fitted - It went in for the first service and they could not put the oil plug back in, the hole was too big - I thought they were joking when I was told it needed a new engine! The dealer has been absolutely superb in all of this but not what you expect from a bike designed to wander Africa off road!
Great stuff, as ever! There's a lot of real-world stuff in there that I've not seen on other reviews of the bike, which I reckon would be super-useful for potential buyers. Your observation about the light and the radar being upside down were exactly what I thought when I first saw it!
Apparently Europe rewards manufacturers for adding safety features, but I don't know how. I used to have to take my hand off the stick to engage the grip heater switch on the dashboard with my OilHead. Now I'd have to take my eyes off the road to engage some feature. The programmable button seems like a good compromise.
I mentioned on one of your last videos that I rented a 1250 GS for a day. When I returned it, there was a new 1300GS at the rental place and I found that in person it doesn't look so bad especially the headlight. However the rental person mentioned that the rear grab handles can break pretty easily. They were transporting a number of these bikes with the straps attached to the rear handles and a lot of them ended up breaking. Too much plastic on bikes these days. But it does make them lighter than what they could be.
I think you're right about the radar and headlight. The headlight should be the main event up front. Honda got it right with the Africa Twin, they gave it character.
Thanks Andy, great review as always! I agree with everything you have said, thanks Plan a test ride soon at Ocean Plymouth, will let you know my thoughts
With respect to your comments about "sitting down in the bike" versus "on top of the bike", I absolutely concur, and to me, it is a little disquieting. I find that the thinner center stack in front of the handlebars attributes to that feeling. I take delivery of my R1300GS later this week, and I intend to cover the clear air deflectors on each side of the instrument stack with a black vinyl wrap material. That in itself should improve the visual ascetic to "put more in front of me" like a dashboard would be.
I was a bit worried about the "hamburger" button when I bought mine but I set the primary to the heated stuff and the secondary to the screen and never really wanted to change the rest of the stuff on the move, to be honest, as with my 1250, once the screen was set (in the up position), I never changed that either! Totally agree about the lack of backlit switchgear, I don't think I can have ridden in pitch black as I have never not been able to see them but I'm sure that others do and in this day and age BMW really should include this! Seating is subjective but I am really starting to like the firmer seat (I have standard seat and adaptive ride height) and me missus finds the pillion as good as the 1250 after a while getting used to it. I also kind of liked the scaffolding look of the old one but starting to love the look of the new one but for me the pro's really outweigh the con's and very glad that I changed. Also agree with the screen, the "bubble of calm" (as you put it I believe) is great, even had a fly somehow get behind the screen a few days ago and it buzzed about seemingly quite happily for a while until finally straying to close to the edge and disappearing at great speed! And mine does have a bit of a whine, sounds a bit like a turbine at times 🙂 Interesting review though, thanks.
The R1250RT has everything ya need for the road and all the creature comforts, the only thing I miss from the GS is the top loading panniers, everything else is better on the RT. The storage and phone cubby on the rt fit a iPhone 15 pro max without a case and you have wireless charging.
@@TheMissendenFlyer I’m 6’1” with a 33” leg and I must admit coming from the tiger it took a minute to adjust but now I don’t even think about it. I’m not young either, 52, I say that because age plays a part in discomfort.
Thanks for another excellent video, Andy. Incidentally, the 1300GS I tried also had an annoying whining noise. I echo all your comments, negative and positive. I think I’ll wait for the next version to see if BMW address these before trading in my 1250GS, which is hard to beat!
Agree fully on the front and rear. That is what puts me off the most on considering this bike over the new 2024 Honda ATAS. I believe KTM did a much better job of integrating the adaptive cruise control radar into the front of the 1290 Super Adventure S. Also, I think part of the reason why the new 1300 feels heavier is that the weight is higher up with the cylinders higher up to accommodate the gearbox underneath.
Yes you may be right about the centre of gravity being slightly higher and I agree on bikes like the Ktm’s making better treatment of the radar - even BMW did it well on the R 1250 RT.
Excellent review, as ever. I saw Teapot’s offering about the rear light and I agree - quite shocked that BMW went with that design because to me, it is less safe than it ought to be.
Great review….having seen one in the wild now….i was following down the A390 in bright sunshine and whilst braking and indicating at the same time the indicator was completely lost. Obviously the front indicator doesn’t suffer the same problem BUT I still consider this an issue and very surprised BMW have taken this route. Fortunately I don’t have the money to buy one so not a problem for me!
Thanks for posting. The new GS does seem to be a mixed bag. So... do you see yourself buying/acquiring the new 1300GS in the next 1 - 3 years? If not the GS, then which bike? Triumph, Ducati, Honda, KTM (I know not your favorite) or other???
Thanks for the usual, very in depth video of the GS1300. Still personally convinced that owners of a BMW would stick with their bikes, or even upgrade to a 1250, mainly due to the pricing. The only 'option' I would have on any bike would be the radar/adaptive cruise control. Especially for long motorway days.
Lovely bike! Borrowed one for a couple of hours and largely agree with your views vs my R1200GS. Handling and performance is definitely up a few notches! But at the expense of some of the practicality, comfort and (in my view) the things that made the GS unique. It feels like BMW reached a crossroads with this iteration. Bigger and heavier would have attracted plenty of criticism. Lighter, faster, better handling, are all things that are hard to argue against on paper. Anyway it's here now and I'm gradually getting used to the looks, even if I think I'll be sticking with the 1200 for another few years!
Great review as always. I'll be sticking with my red 2015 TE . It does everything I Need without all the Bells n Whistles, and best of all just saved myself £15000 in the process 😂😂😂
Lol, you have the liner removed from your jacket, because it is a pleasant day, but you have two warm layers under the jacket. English "warm" day, and for those in Australia a cold day.
Enjoyed the video Andy, and you confirmed for me at least, that the V85TT is a far better bike. You really must try the forthcoming E5+ V85TT when it hits UK dealer network (maybe your friends at Wheels Motorcycles?) For some reason these "top of the range" adventure-tourers leave me feeling a bit flat, especially considering the £££. Sometime less is more...
Thanks for the reviews, keep up the good work - I’ve owned a new GS1300 since 1st March and done 1000 miles, all local, scratching around really twisty empty costal roads. 95% of these miles with my wife on the back. Agree with most of your comments. On my bike I have noticed something very strange and would like to know if you’ve had the same experience - mainly when 2 up - under hard breaking and applying the back brake first THEN the front I have noticed the front lever pulsing. Thanks again for the reviews
Hi Sharpe ! Seems like pillions don’t appreciate the 1300 as much as the 1250, because of poor wind protection. Agree with that statement ? Thanks and enjoy your rides !
Good information on a popular new bike. The lack of backlit controls is really weird, considering all the new tech they have omitted a basic feature that is actually very common in basic cars even. Like you said Triumph on the 900 Tiger has it and it works great. Your right if the had the radar under the headlight would look better perhaps.
Great video, both positive and negatives has been mentioned. I think is bit expensive ( because you will need many extras ). Personally I can't stand 2 cylinders anymore but I truly love the previous generation and I'm sure you do too. That front light... Jesus christ...
I just drove the bike for a week in Andalusia and own a 1200 Like you did. You have the 100% same findings as me. The luggage I would call a real disaster. All of them are recalled allready. The side paniers open accidentally on the highway. Good for the 3rd party vendors
Andy I totally agree with you re the looks the radar panels especially Also the rear light or lack of one both hopefully will be revised on the GSA and Mk 2 1300GS The final one for me are the controls it needs a separate switch for the heated grips and screen Lugage I would fit my GIVI Alloy boxes Thanks for another great review and hope your recovery is going well John
Thank you John, I’m glad we concur! Too early to tell on the recovery yet, I still have the nerve block in with my right arm paralysed and numb. All good fun! ….. and in case you are wondering I am dictating these answers to comments not typing them!!
Really great balanced summary and overview .. can’t wait for May when my one arrives … but should I have waited for the Adventure!!!!!! But I will never go off road I guess !!!!
Great review as always! I assume the adaptive cruise control just lets off the gas when you need to slow down, not active braking? It honestly sounds like an incredible feature since I normally have a longer commute and love taking my 1200GS when I can. Thanks again for the wonderful and rider focused reviews.
Really appreciate you being as constructive as you could be in documenting your own experience of the bike. Useful observations for potential owners… although I own the previous incarnation of the Tiger 1200, I still admire the looks and qualities of the previous 1200/1250 GS models over this one. It just seems that the ‘designers’ have been given too much influence… the combined rear lights/indicators are horrid and a real safety concern… central locking panniers 🙄… multiple layer menus to navigate to turn on heated grips etc 🙄 and radar cruise control ffs… and then comes the pricing!!??!! Stone me… BMW aren’t alone in ramping up their fees but bloody hell it’s expensive… Great video though, much appreciated sir! 🤗👍🏼
noted you mentioned a frozem shoulder, i have had ;eft and right, so glad i didnt have the operation, my doctor suggested acupuncture and i laughed and said sure, just to keep him happy. He said good, they can do the first session now. I had three sessions and it cleared the issue completely. I would recommend it highly
Had my triple black a few weeks now and I love it. Dare I s dad y best bike I’ve had. Completely miffed that still no luggage available from bmw. Considering lonerider for mine Also finding paint work on tank bit shoddy Great informative vid andy
Thanks Andy, I appreciate that. If I were you, I wouldn’t bother waiting for the BMW luggage, as I said in the video it’s a right faff and the fancy central locking really doesn’t add anything to the bike in my opinion.
I'm with you 100% re a proper physical manual, my Street triple RS manual was also only downloadable and I'd be quite happy to pay an extra £10 or £15 to have real old fashioned manual.
Your videos deserve more mainstream exposure ..great job.
I appreciate that!

Glad you picked up on the rear lights issue. Number of cars have that problem too. That alone makes it a "no" for me.
@@nicks2908 Imagine if we all had different opinions on things...
@@jamesf8864indeed. However, signal Then manoeuvre isn't an opinion.
That premature exhaust corrosion alone would grate with me. Great information here TMF. Thank you
These videos on the new 1300gs are the best out there, you have covered pretty much everything about living with the bike that is invaluable to a prospective purchaser. Everyone already expected it to be up on power etc but you have highlighted lots of other important things to which a buyer tends to come across after ownership. Massive well done Andy on setting the benchmark with your review, really enjoyed it mate 100% 👍👍👍
I appreciate that David - thank you!
BMW have taken their eye off the ball.. big time !
Well, we shall see how sales go, certainly the bike has less appeal to me than the previous models.
Excellent, as always, very useful!
Also, many thanks for speaking at a good pace. It's nice not having to speed up an in-depth bike vid, for a change. Cheers!
You're very welcome!
At night when looking at the horizon or just beneath: The angle of the headlight needs to be well separated from the angle of the eyeline..because:
We need a shadow for depth perception.
I think it will just be called the R1400GS
Gold panniers, who thinks that would be a good look! Interested to wait and see the GSA version.
Thanks for the info!
Honest and trusted review. The looks, lack of presence and cost were the key reasons why I have an R1250 GSA Triple Black arriving this week.
Ooh nice - enjoy your new bike!
Glad to help!
Me too
Ive got the R1200 GS LC from 2013.
Glad we concur!
@@andyhorsfall9394 interesting what your selection criteria is for a motorcycle.
Very good review, but especially at £23k seems somewhat underwhelming. Maybe sticking to the base option at £16k - getting that great engine - but foregoing some of the bells and whistles is the way to go on this bike.
Love the pointing stick 🤣🤣
Thanks for the show 🙏🏻
No problem 👍
A comprehensive review on the GS1300. Hopefully now we can see other reviews of many bike's available today in the UK. Were not all GS fanboys Andy!
One more video on the new GS to come then I’m done….many of my viewers are interested in it but normal service will resume…..
Ingenious how the bars lock the cubby hole when parked. By no means a niggle ;-)
Im liking the new TMF towers at the start. Plenty of room for more garage space. 👍🏼😂
I wish!
🤣
Thanks for that, and yes there seems to be a lot hanging on the adventure model for many of us!
Get well mate, hopefully that shoulder thaws out. I had a friend who had shoulder surgery and he said it hurt far more than you would think.
Tell me about it, I had the surgery yesterday!
Congrats on what will probably be your last BMW review Andy 😂.. it’s good to see folks talking about these bikes from an ownership pov, from a GS owner, away from the sunshine launches 🌞
Thank you - I try and keep my reviews as “real” as possible without being influenced by fancy hotels, Sunshine and restaurants…
Thanks for this fair and balanced review Andy. You bought up some big points that might turn some off from buying it. Or make some buy it.
Perfect!
On the old bike I just wound a knob!
After this review im so glad i got the 2022 Gsa with touring package.
Nice comprehensive review. Will be really interesting to see what the 1400 is like. Shouldn't be too long to wait I imagine.
Yes I think there’s a lot riding on the styling of that bike…..
Thank you - I had the op on Tuesday and I'm well on my way to recovery now...reckon I'll be back on a bike in no time!
That's good news
Thank you for watching and congratulations on the new bike. I’m glad you’re enjoying it.
Unless you are eating the miles and going on the autobahn and regularly carrying a passenger then I think the big GS are overkill.
I’m opting for smaller and lighter. Suzuki V Storm 650 for example.
Great videos. Thanks.
I think,if after listening to all the negatives of a bike, I still find myself wanting to buy one, then it must be a good bike!
Agreed 100%
Absolutely love your honest review. Thanks very much.👍👍👍👍👍
My pleasure!
Right on board with you on the cruise control and shoulder injury as well Andy.
Always a good video from you sir. 👍
Thank you Frank, appreciate you watching!
He he, thanks for the kind words but I can assure you I’m not after a career in television - I’m done with working for a living!
These "minor" points are exactly what drives people insane. Small problem, big impact (sometimes depends on the individual). Great video.
Thank you, and yes I agree if there’s enough small problems they can mount up into a big one!
@@TheMissendenFlyer i bought a corolla in 2019 and sold it because i got sick of having to press 7 buttons each time i started it to get my previous preferences... its just bonkers how little things add up and can ruin good experiences. Love your work.
Thank you!
Yes I think the new bike will scratch that particular itch, congratulations and enjoy!
Nice to hear a real comment on the new BMW,
Thank you....
1250 is better. I think, as an owner for 2years ish. I wouldn't change mine for a 1300.
Now I've bought one I rewatched this
I've no radar cover on the back of mine and have fitted the Weiser Technik module and the Denali rear light a great improvement and why didn't BMW
Front panel is still there but covered by the screen and looks so much better
I never had back lights on any bike and know exactly where the switches are, and top 2 functions are assigned
Did want radar sat nav or Akra
Range is acceptable and better than the 1250 and 1200
The comfort seat is adjustable and my comfort seat with the adaptive ride height is brilliant
Givi now do a specific plate for the rear rack
The green is IMO awfull Trophy colours are very nice
I still have my other GS and my Speed 400 but this is without doubt the best of the 64 plus bikes I have owned
Absolutely the best multi purpose bike avalible
The windscreen as you said is superb
The handling is also very good
I will be off to Europe with a pillion latter this year so will get some feedback on that
Ther is a bar under both seats to adjust and I have fitted the front rubber adjusters from the 1250
I have the Conected Ride from my other GS and it's a great bit of kit
It's very easy to get on the centre stand the adaptive ride lifts it as the stand touches the ground
Great review and yes the Paineirs have been recalled and now another for the starter relay
Thanks for the review
Great feedback - thanks for taking the time to write in....
So grateful for your insights.
Very useful info, thank you very much !
My pleasure!
Great in depth review of the 1300GS. Now all I see is the radar plastic at the front, bit like a black Beluga ! Thanks TMF
Sorry about that John!
Especially considering it looks pants with the visible rust 😮
Great looking bike. I'd have one if it was in the budget. I'll have to stick with my v Strom.
I had a 2019 S1000RR - couldn't agree with you more about the indicators, nearly got taken out by two cars - both of whom said they couldn't see my indicators. Changed them for US spec one's (non LED) it did solve the problem.
Great job on reviewing the new 1300 GS!
Thank you for watching!
Mine is currently having a new engine fitted - It went in for the first service and they could not put the oil plug back in, the hole was too big - I thought they were joking when I was told it needed a new engine! The dealer has been absolutely superb in all of this but not what you expect from a bike designed to wander Africa off road!
Wow that's incredible! I hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction soon....
Great stuff, as ever! There's a lot of real-world stuff in there that I've not seen on other reviews of the bike, which I reckon would be super-useful for potential buyers. Your observation about the light and the radar being upside down were exactly what I thought when I first saw it!
Glad we concur Jez - probably something to do with vehicle regs....
Thorough as always. Just 3 weeks away from getting mine, can’t wait.
Congratulations!
Wow!
I think you're right about the radar and headlight. The headlight should be the main event up front.
Honda got it right with the Africa Twin, they gave it character.
Yes I’ve come to love the looks of the Africa twin overtime, maybe that will happen with the GS - or maybe not!
Thanks Andy, great review as always! I agree with everything you have said, thanks
Plan a test ride soon at Ocean Plymouth, will let you know my thoughts
Enjoy and do please!
The Gold & Green color scheme is for the Springboks!! 🇿🇦
Love my tramuntana green n gold, got one 1300gs and loving it. No complaints here😂
It is a lovely bike to ride isn’t it Terry, enjoy!
Yes that'sa good idea I reckon....
And mine does have a bit of a whine, sounds a bit like a turbine at times 🙂
Interesting review though, thanks.
Thank you for watching and for your thoughts!
The R1250RT has everything ya need for the road and all the creature comforts, the only thing I miss from the GS is the top loading panniers, everything else is better on the RT. The storage and phone cubby on the rt fit a iPhone 15 pro max without a case and you have wireless charging.
Yes the RT is a great bike for sure - I don't find the leg position quite as comfy as on the GS though which is roomier....
@@TheMissendenFlyer I’m 6’1” with a 33” leg and I must admit coming from the tiger it took a minute to adjust but now I don’t even think about it. I’m not young either, 52, I say that because age plays a part in discomfort.
You are a fashion icon, love your kit😊😊
Thank you! 🤗
Thanks for another excellent video, Andy. Incidentally, the 1300GS I tried also had an annoying whining noise. I echo all your comments, negative and positive. I think I’ll wait for the next version to see if BMW address these before trading in my 1250GS, which is hard to beat!
Yes, a good plan I reckon, nothing wrong with the 1250!
Video coming on that soon - stay tuned!
Yes the adaptive cruise control is an excellent feature on long runs, thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching and for stopping by.
I’m 4 months in waiting for mine 😢 At least I have videos like this to watch.
It'll be worth the wait.....
Great review as always. I'll be sticking with my red 2015 TE . It does everything I Need without all the Bells n Whistles, and best of all just saved myself £15000 in the process 😂😂😂
Liking your style.
Lol, you have the liner removed from your jacket, because it is a pleasant day, but you have two warm layers under the jacket. English "warm" day, and for those in Australia a cold day.
You have to deal with what you’re dealt! I’d take the Aussie version of weather any time!
'had the missus on the back'? I didn't realise the seats were that roomy! ;-)
Easy!
Thanks! Triple Black is the one for me. Good luck with the shoulder!
Thank you!
Enjoyed the video Andy, and you confirmed for me at least, that the V85TT is a far better bike. You really must try the forthcoming E5+ V85TT when it hits UK dealer network (maybe your friends at Wheels Motorcycles?)
For some reason these "top of the range" adventure-tourers leave me feeling a bit flat, especially considering the £££. Sometime less is more...
Great update Andy. Good question are all the little bits mounting up to a no. Its still a nice bike. But so expensive
Nope - not spotted that one!
Thanks for watching Wayne, I’m glad we concur!
Greetings Flyer! The amount of money you spend on a GS and for the features you get, the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+ is an all-around winner.
Yes I tend to agree.
Not so good for Touratech the 3rd party vendor that supplies them!
Andy
I totally agree with you re the looks the radar panels especially
Also the rear light or lack of one both hopefully will be revised on the GSA and Mk 2 1300GS
The final one for me are the controls it needs a separate switch for the heated grips and screen
Lugage I would fit my GIVI Alloy boxes
Thanks for another great review and hope your recovery is going well
John
Thank you John, I’m glad we concur! Too early to tell on the recovery yet, I still have the nerve block in with my right arm paralysed and numb. All good fun! ….. and in case you are wondering I am dictating these answers to comments not typing them!!
I have semi-active suspension on my 2022 Pan Am, and I think it is very cool.
Yes it’s a similar system to BMWs and I agree works well - HD were there first with this!
I think that's the case but I've never got close enough to see if the brakes come on too!
Surely a Misseden Flyer sticker smack-dab in the middle of that front facing radar would improve the looks tremendously :)
How could it not!
Really appreciate your honesty with this review, as always. But that little pointy stick of yours really freaks me out.
Why is that?
The R1300 GS Adventure is coming next year, will be interesting to see how it will compare against the R1250GSA, think that will be the real test
Thanks, Adam, much appreciated
noted you mentioned a frozem shoulder, i have had ;eft and right, so glad i didnt have the operation, my doctor suggested acupuncture and i laughed and said sure, just to keep him happy. He said good, they can do the first session now. I had three sessions and it cleared the issue completely. I would recommend it highly
I had the operation on Tuesday and today I'm pretty much fixed - medical science at it's best!
@@TheMissendenFlyer good to hear, glad u got sorted.
Well it's not exactly sorted (painful today!) but defo an improvement....
I am sure, know a few people who had the op. Take ur time and don’t stress it too soon. Good luck with it
Had my triple black a few weeks now and I love it. Dare I s dad y best bike I’ve had.
Completely miffed that still no luggage available from bmw.
Considering lonerider for mine
Also finding paint work on tank bit shoddy
Great informative vid andy
Thanks Andy, I appreciate that. If I were you, I wouldn’t bother waiting for the BMW luggage, as I said in the video it’s a right faff and the fancy central locking really doesn’t add anything to the bike in my opinion.
I'm with you 100% re a proper physical manual, my Street triple RS manual was also only downloadable and I'd be quite happy to pay an extra £10 or £15 to have real old fashioned manual.
Me too…..
