I just saw a FF episode that said a sand cap keeps the nutrients from the dirt... In the dirt.... keeps it locked down in the dirt, not spent in the water column and spent with water changes. How do you feel about that? Maybe floater plants would do poorly on that set up. your sweet fishy boy looks blessed and happy! Youre a little "mother nature" with sweet Walter! ❤❤❤❤❤❤ Thanks for your tank update. Great share! Great video!
Thank you so much! I don't know a ton about capping substrate, but before i decided what I was going to do I talked to a friend, asking her what she did. She told me her tank was thriving and sent pics, and it was! Had the same substrate and wasn't capped. She said she didn't dose any other fertilizer and it was fine. I may do more research one day and cap my next one. 🤷♀ Always learning!
You should use watering cans. You can use it to water your house plants with the dirty water and use the watering can to pour water back into your tank. Or have two watering cans for that. It made it easier and quicker to change water on my smaller tanks
This is the marineland portrait five gallon tank! It comes with a built in filter, but I have a video up on this channel showing how I removed it so it looks like mine. :)
Hi! This video is so helpful, thank you! I was curious, do you recommend the tanks with built in filters or taking those out and replacing it with a sponge filter?
@@ellieclaire6102 I absolutely recommend taking them out and putting in a sponge filter. SO much better! I have a video on this channel of me removing mine! Check it out if you need the reference :)
@ awesome, thank you so much!! I’m looking to cycle an aquarium for a betta soon and I think I will try out a sponge filter this time :) I have a fluval spec 5 gallon tank (I think that’s what it’s called) and it has a built in filter so I definitely will be following your tutorial!

What a great idea! Thank you so much!
That is an awesome idea! Thanks for the suggestion!
Have you made a leaf hammock for Walter yet?
No, I haven't! He loves sleeping on the floor of the tank at night. He might like something at the top to rest on. 😊
You may have this posted somewhere but what tank is this? I need to upgrade my betta’s tank and I love this one!
