Jhonen Vazquez mentioned that the world of the show takes place on Earth after years of pollution and junk slowly deteriorated everyone’s brains and bodies. That’s why nearly every character is either insane, kind of dumb, or both; they are all literally suffering from brain damage. Maybe Membrane is also going insane due to decades on Earth and his own experiments. Dib and Jazz just aren't feeling the effects yet because their Dad is also doing everything in his power to protect them. Like when Jazz had the Pig Curse, he did everything scientifically possible, and is unwilling to spiral into more insanity that comes with paranormal science
I remember how in "Planet Jackers", Zim enters Dib's house, and when he says "Gaz, there's an alien in the house!" she actually says "You mean besides you?"

Also quick correction, the tallest are the tallest not because they offed the current ones, but because zim, as a smeet (child). Created an infinity energy absorbing blob that ate not one, but two of the current leaders back to back. Making the whole race sort of go into a panic on who would be leader. They basically picked two of the tallest irkens at the time. Who are in canon the same age as zim, making them teen rulers..basically (jhonen vasquez plays around with they're ages, saying zim is an adult, 16. Whatever but they are basically young rulers).

jhonen did change tha design of the tallest to show that they didnt grow to be the tallest, but became the tallest. Their suits are part of what make them the tallest. He wanted the views to know there was a difference. And it has been alluded to them "becoming" the tallest by doing something to the old tallest. Which i believe was a singular leader, but i may be misremembering that

The tragic irony of Dib being an alien is heartbreaking, really.
He could also be a human baby that was taken and experimented on and just adopted and raised afterwards.
He might be a human/Irken hybrid experiment, which could also explain why his head is so different than either species.
Seems like Professor Membrane is the Bulma of that planet. Inventing everything and owning everything and basically being the richest being on the planet.

Even if Membrane was a irken, in the movie finally it's shown both his legs and arms are robotic. So I doubt he was a 'tallest'. More likely he was really short so no one paid attention to him and his genius. So he went to earth, made a mech suit to fit in. And his peace day stunt was to show up the tallest for ignoring him.

Membrane's legs aren't robotic. He's wearing rocket boots and in Florpus, it's shown that he has bones in his legs but not his arms.

We and all life at earth is proof that life can exist in our universe.Universe according to scientists(all this and other you can google) have diameter in 93 billion light years and visible is 28 billion ly .Approximate number of galaxies in visible universe is from 170 bilion to 2 trillion.If we do calculations of volumes by 4/3 x pi x r^3 we get that visible universe have 36.641 times smaller volume than observable.
So approximate number of galxies in Universe from 6.229 trillion to 73.283 trillion.Wiki says galaxies have in average 100 mil galaxies, yes, not best source but other options - we don't know for sure.So i will pick 50 million, plus some of strs definitely haven't habitable planets like A-O types, this don't change result by much.Each star system have in average 10 planets but this number based on incomplete information and contains gas giants so i take 5, not including rogue planets by obvious reasons.
As result with raw calculations we get that Universe might have from 1.55x10^21 to 1.83x10^22 planets and this is HUGE number.
Is pretty unlikely that there is no other alien life besides us.
But what we are considering "alien life"?Answer is any not terrestial life from simpliest microbes to more advanced organisms like plants , animals and finally sentient beings.All this have different odds , mircobes have highest and sentient beings - lowest.

Finally reached main point.We know that nothing can travel faster the light besides space-time.We know it for sure because all objects further 14 billion ly is moving faster than light relatively to us.But we and them moving at least half of ftl because space-time expanding in both directions, of course not entirely half this can be like 0.7 +0.3 too.But on 28billion ly distance both objects for sure moving at ftl relatively to each other.
This concept exploited by warp drive.Exist many doubts in his possibility because requiremnts to make space-time distortion around certain area to travel at ftl.So warp drive is sci-fi for now.And ftl travel between stars too.
So alien civilisation that can reach ftl speed is science fiction.But aliens as phenomenon, even sentient ones rather not a fiction, they just extremely rare.

Aside from fitting in really nicely to this theory, the bit about the Aliens running the same operating system as Dib was probably a dig at movies like Independence Day where the humans hack advanced alien tech with a mid 90s laptop
But thats because in the universe of the movie our tecnology was develop using Reverse engineering of the alien ships that crash on earth

From what I remember, Dib and maybe Gaz were confirmed as clones of Membrane, but I think there's good evidence that Membrane is a potentially banished Irken. In which case, yes I guess that means that Dib would be an alien clone. And it makes sense that Membrane would be so into trying to convince Dib that aliens aren't real, both to keep his cover best he can, and potentially because he isn't ready to let the kids know about their clone status. It would be crazy enough to hear that you're a clone, much less an alien clone.

Something I’m surprised that wasn’t mentioned is the “Arm control nerve” in Dib’s stomach as seen in “NanoZim”. Even Dib points out how that doesn’t exist in humans. This would also explain how Zim, an alien creature who doesn’t understand much of Earth, would know exactly where to find it.

It'd stand to reason that he'd likely find a way to protect his clones (and hopefully himself) from something as common and devastating to Irkans as rain water.

There are Irkens in the middle ground heightwise. The soldiers on the Irken Mothership are medium height. The ones that work for the Tallest are between the tallest and normal Irken height.

I always liked to think that the humans around Dib were stylized to represent how he felt about them. So to me his father looked "alien" because to Dib it feels like he is. Like he can't connect to him because he acts so distant to him almost speaking another language while they talk. But your theory is amazing. Zim looked clearly alien to Dib because that is what he saw and felt. But clearly anyone else was not able to see it. To them Dib was the more weird and alien than Zim. It's an amazing show no matter how freaky it sometimes got.
Another interesting "coincidence" that I'm surprised Mat didn't mention: Zim is a three letter name. Who else do we know with three letter names? Gaz and Dib.

Technically not - Dib fits, but "Gaz" is short for "Gazlene" - a play on Gasoline to reference her volatile nature.

Dib is shown to have ears, unlike his father, so he couldn't be a complete clone.
He could be an attempted hybrid, trying to make sure his line continues while not outing himself as an alien; this would explain Dib's hypothesis that he'd been experimented on while also taking both his similarities and differences from Irkens into account.

I always had a theory about the Tallest that they arent actually tall. They're always hovering, and Idk about you but their limbs and bodies look to me like they've been augmented. Like they used levitation devices and cybernetics to make themselves seem taller.
That or being that tall for Irkens causes physical disabilities, their leg muscles too weak to support that much mass.
There writers did actually plan to explore this idea
At 10:17 you said that Professor Membrane might be taller than the Tallest which is why they sent him to Earth, but earlier at 5:43 you said he's been dressed that way since he was a child. So that part kind of confuses me, seems like a little contradiction to the theory. Lol

I like more to imagine that Membrane is not an “alien invader” himself, but his parents or his ancestors WAS.
I haven't watched much of Invader Zim but that could be.
I think Membrane could be spying on & stealing tech from the Irken to get in a position of power on Earth and denies their existence to avoid being found out and losing his technological advantage.
Those wouldn't explain the weird facial features however unless they're a strange byproduct of it's use.

He has done exactly what an invader should do, he perfectly blended in with the planets native inhabitants, even to the point they think he has children. It makes perfect sense for him to clone himself if there are no other Irken on Earth for him to reproduce, yet Dib and Gaz will still be biologically related to him. While simultaneously throwing Dib under the bus, he was going to show them off to society before he started the Perpetual Energy Generator, saying "I'd like to introduce you all to my children" at the very start of his speech. I feel I should mention in the comics, there's a poem that details how Zim conquers the Earth and reveals that Dib has been "one of us all along" before he rips his skin off and shows that he's Irken underneath. Maybe just a nightmare, but possibly foreshadowing?

If we act like this show has strong continuity and characters don't just die every episode, then I have an alternative to this theory that doesn't rely on believing that Dib is an alien.
Dib says that he has "I have vague memories of being taken on board an alien ship as a baby." But if he's a clone of membrane with the intelligence to boot, then what's to say that he doesn't have similar memories?
Membrane picks up alien mannerisms, is hyper intelligent, and refuses to believe in the supernatural even when it's right in front of him because of a single thing called trauma.
In Enter The Florpus, he says, "How could anything this horrifying, plausible be real?"
At the end of the episode, Mopiness Of Doom Membrane asks himself where he went wrong.
He appears to be an alien because he was experimented on rather than being one. His actions, like embarrassing Dib on live TV and trying to get him to give up on paranormal investigations, are partly out of not wanting to remember his painful past and wanting to keep his kids safe from events like Enter The Florpus and Dark Harvest.
Or we're just overthinking kids shows as always.

They can though! I remember they talked in the show about how they converted to making irken with machinery instead, it would help avoid any more tallest being born and prevent any Invader from being sentimental over others like families or couples.
That doesn't disprove the theory, though. That would just mean irkens don't have reproductive organs. and, since dib and gaz are clones, that doesn't matter much since his children were born through asexual reproduction.

I feel like if Membrane was a Tallest, he went to Earth on his own accord considering he's a man of action.
perhaps he saw his tallness coming and hid there to cultivate a force smart and strong enough to then take over the urkins making him king ( also im pretty sure the tallest arent even that tall since you never seen them without that metalic skirt and mechanical gauntlets more likely they re fooling everyone into believing they re tall)

idk if i can recall correctly but the old concept for the show was that the tallest irkens were actually a little bit taller than the rest of their kind. they wear suits that make them look taller to signify their position of power.

I don’t think that Dib is an alien himself to be honest. I think the theory is very good and I believe Professor Membrane could well be one, but considering that Dib possesses many traits of a human (such as ears and nose, something Membrane lacks) I think he’d be more likely to either be a human or a clone of some sorts.

Dib can still be a clone yet possess those human traits by messing with the DNA sequences in order to have them being added. Given how Professor Membrane is as wildly intelligent as portrayed in the series, it wouldn't/shouldn't be difficult in order to make those changes.

Dib and Gaz are canonically clones. The creator of the series says this during an interview sometime in like, 2007 or something. I think it's also mentioned briefly in one of the spin-off comics.

A bit late to comment on this but I searched the height between the almighty tallest and professor Membrane and turns out that the almighty tallest are 8'11 and professor membrane is somehow 14'1 which is a HUGE stretch. Honestly, not even I would've guess that they were that tall, it might be inaccurate but that's what I found

Worth pointing out that in the comics Dr Membrane arrived on Earth with his parents. Both were tall and as we can see with tallest red and tallest purple, there is always two people to rule so if the guy was alone then he could have been killed in public without anyone caring since they have to be a duo with a bond to rule after the previous tallests. Also it is obvious that Dr Membrane doesn't want to rule a snack domain, he loves science. Maybe that's another reason why he was thrown away to Earth with his parents: the parents are two tall people with an obvious bond in the shape of Dr Membrane as a kid. If the hierachy had discovered that two tall probably destined to be the next tallests have a child who will heritate of their height then it can be a motivation for the irkens to get rid of them because Dr Membrane is a defective. He is destined to be tall so he is destined to rule one day but he shows his love for science to the point of having the same collars and science coats as the medical/scientific and technician part of the population of Irk. It would be a disgrace for the irken population to hear that a future to be tallest wants to become a scientist (so to go the lower class of people on the scale right under the tallests and the invaders). I think this is the reason why he was send to Earth as a child but he was still old enough to understand and remember his native planet so the rest of the theory is pure canon to me😊
Also it totally destroys the theories about a ''Miss Membrane because Gaz has doesn't look like her father'' she look like her grand-father and Dr Membrane as well as Dib look like Dib's grand-mother. DNA is complicated but to summerise it, Dr Membrane having a daughter who doesn't look a lot like him doesn't mean that she's linked to a human mother or anything. It's just that thoses recessive traits were picked up in Dr Membrane's DNA to create Gaz. Even further we can imagine that Dr Membrane took DNA from his parents to keep it for the day he'd make clones after all we don't know where Dr Membrane's parents are now, or if they are still alive.
Okay but that sticky note in the background at the beginning that said "Are the Tallest faking their height?" would actually be a GREAT theory to hop on.
