      A good gig if you can get it. However, the drummer,bassist or guitarist doesn't feel physical pain when their instrument is damaged. A singer does.

    Victor played a bar in Cincinnati in the 90's when me and my friends were too young to get in, but we were all huge fans, so we stood on the street right behind the band, separated by a big window. He and Futureman kept turning around to play to us and the band came out after the show to talk to us. We were all aspiring musicians and the fact that he took that time to encourage a bunch of random teenagers who couldn't pay to get in was awesome. I'll forever be a fan

    it's called anticipation. With changing to different root chords, he creates a tension so your ears anticipate the root note and when it hits you, you feel instant relieve. Anticipation, tension, release. The key to create goosebumps.

      @iamtherealrenedescartes 5 месяцев назад +34

      @@samrobson9444 What he explains here is fundamental to music. He's just talking about chord progressions. You have your root key, then you introduce tension by moving away from your root key, so you move into different chords/notes within the scale... before returning to "home" i.e. bringing it back to the root key. Working around the circle of fifths is a good starting place. The alternative to what I am talking about is to just play a C chord and never change throughout an entire track. Why would you ever just play one chord for 3-4 minutes?

    Bassists are the unsung heroes of the music industry. None of my favorite songs, riffs and licks would sound nearly as good without you guys. There's so much expression you get out of a bass and sadly the average person would only notice if it wasn't there. I remember when I first started teaching myself guitar in middle school thinking "why doesn't this sound right, I must be playing it wrong somehow" only to realize later on that I was only missing that sweet bass.

    One of the biggest lamentations I have about how a lot of modern popular music is composed compared to the 60s and 70s (and no I wasn't alive in either of those decades 😅) is that old songs were often driven by incredibly melodic basslines, not simply restricting the bass to anchoring chords and holding rhythm. It's so cool to see an example of this idea in action!

      A lot of 80's post-punk used the bass as a lead, melodic instrument.
      The original inspiration came from mid-70's Pere Ubu and was picked up by Joy Division, the Cure, New Order, Magazine, Wire etc.
      Many bass players were either the main songwriters (the Chameleons, say) or wrote the most melodic songs (Mission of Burma).
      In fact, ever since the Beatles, bassists often seem to write more melodic, less rockist songs than the guitarist.

    Bass is arguably the most important instrument in a band. They simultaneously keep the beat going in tandem with percussion, they compliment the guitar riff and sometimes become the MAIN riff, and if it’s done subtly enough you can’t even tell the bass is in their. You can only tell when they take it out. Fucking live bass

    I feel like a lot of people vasty underestimate the bass and how important it is to the overall *sound* of music.
    Someone said it isn't something you *_hear,_* its something you *_feel._* I wholeheartedly agree with that.
