  • My arrangement of La vita e sogno from the Fontaine / Petrichor region of Genshin Impact, originally composed by Archangelo Chen.
    Some thoughts on the performance:
I spent a lot of time trying to make this arrangement more interesting since a literal transcription would've been too repetitive and miss a lot of details. This comes out at around measure 10 (0:28), where I switch the accompaniment, as well as the middle section, with the added runs and arpeggios. I was worried about how it would sound since a lot of my attempts at being creative just end up sounding awkward. But I think it turned out well, even if the execution was messy at times.
The hardest part of this piece for me was creating smooth phrases. This is something I’ve struggled with, especially in slower pieces. I think the beginning and ending sections flow reasonably well, even though there are still some awkward spots. But the middle section was much trickier due to the octaves, and my performance is very inconsistent. For example, in measures 32-33, you can hear how the last note is softer than the first, but it's not a gradual decrescendo. Still, it's an improvement - for example, in my performance of Rippling Wavelet in the Aquabus video I emphasized basically every melody note, so at least this time there’s some semblance of phrasing, even if overall it still feels monotone.
Funny story - on the day I recorded this, I had a lesson (working on a completely different piece - Debussy's The Girl with the Flaxen Hair), and my teacher’s feedback was all about making the piece flow better and cutting back on rubato. I’d been using a lot more rubato, especially in the opening, but I figured that advice applied here too. So I ended up playing it pretty differently from how I’d been practicing, and I think it actually worked out for the better.
    Other notes:
I was originally planning to do the entire Petrichor set at once, but it's been taking a lot more time than I thought. I'm still planning to upload a compilation video eventually, but in the interest of appeasing the algorithm I figured it'd be better to not lower the frequency of my videos even further.

    Thanks for watching!

If I'd have to describe this in one word, it would be soothing. I just finished Fontaine today (literally right before I opened RUclips and saw that you uploaded a piece), so I haven't had the chance to hear this music in game yet, will be checking back once I'll be working on 100%-ing Petrichor.
Also, I do agree on you making the decision of uploading this even though you're working on a full Petrichor-soundtrack arrangement - I think it's better to just post them all one-by-one, then upload the whole repertoire - better for the algorithm, and better for us, since we get to experience the pieces on their own as well as a whole once you've finished arranging.
To blend some negativity into a positive comment, I have a nitpick with this piece: I think the leading melody at the start is too sharp compared to the lower notes on the other hand, but I don't know how much it stays out in the original, so maybe it was intentional.
Anyway, here's a long comment for you. Thanks for continuing to arrange easy-to-play, but enjoyable (maybe meditative would be the word I'm searching for) piano arrangements.

By sharp, I assume you're referring to the tone, and not the actual pitch? This is a digital piano so I would certainly hope it's not out of tune lol
I am intentionally trying to voice the melody much more than the accompaniment. To me it feels even more prominent in the original, since you have the contrast between two very different instruments on top of just the dynamics.
But I can see how sharp can describe it since even with the contrast, it should be, as you said, soothing. I definitely could have done better, but alas playing softly and consistently is hard and I decided to focus more on the latter here.
I will also say that while editing this video, I ended up increasing the volume/gain on the audio more than usual. That would also help explain the sharpness. I'll probably tone it down when making the compilation video.
Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed it overall!

@@thealanpiano Yes, I meant that it's louder than the left hand. I don't even know if there's such thing as a digital piano playing out of tune. And also I think the volume increase had it's part in that too, didn't even think of that. Glad you didn't take it the wrong way. Have a nice day!
