I had absolutely no idea people actually do this, I thought me and my mate were nuts for fishing a big frozen lake the once with only a couple of unfrozen patches but this seems like the norm for you guys...incredible!
I remember the Fred latham memorial match, absolute madness, I actually sat on the ice, it was about 8 inches thick. I had 200 roach for 6lb and was below half way in the match. The roach fed like mad, best winter match I've ever fished.
Reminds me of days gone by when it was much colder than today. I used an old flat iron that my Dad used to keep his greenhouse door open on 4' of chain which is why I was smiling at some of your tools Jon. You'd start with several pairs of socks inside your moon boots (that had been on the dashboard warming) several layers under your padded all in one or bib 'n brace, bobble hat or balaclava and finger-less gloves. By the time you'd cleared a decent path you'd be sweating so much you'd be wet through underneath but the number of times you got a fish first put in was unreal. That was 40 odd years ago when the cold didn't get in as quick so I don't go now. No fish but another great video Jon.
Getting harder to find, but always had success with a old Sash window weights, a good meter of heavyweight chain, tied on to a length of that blue rope.if not to thick and you could get large section cut, you could always pop it under the ice, hopefully the same way as canal naturally run. Then it would pop up at some point in your neighbours peg😱😱 you have a great selection to choose from there john.👍
Best one I have is a 6kg lump of lead which was moulded in an old tin with a 12 " piece of chain with a 30" chainsaw blade attached with 6" chain and 16m of rope.
It's good to see you looking well Jon. Looking forward to seeing some new footage of you on the bank. Just wondering, when you lifted that blue box with all that weight in, did it take the strain?
And to think it started with a kiss never thought it would end like this ..🎶🎶song there jon .lol..there's clinics for druggies alcoholics ,nothing for us mad lot .lol...keep em coming mucka ..💪💪👍😄
Johnny when ya fishing everyone trys to be quiet, no thudding etc. With them massive sledgies doesn't it scare all the fish away? Even more so in winter?
It always amazes me you can often catch first chuck after ice breaking! Especially roach. However carp can be slower to respond and its best if everyone is doing it. If rest of lake is quiet or not frozen theyll naturally scarper that way.
"All my ice breaking implements". To paraphrase Wayne's World, I don't even own one ice breaker, let alone many ice breakers that would necessitate an entire tub. With all the other fishing gear... how big is your garage?!
