- Just when you thought things could not get more disastrous, Godzilla returns about ready to destroy the entire Earth. However, does his meltdown sound the end of mankind or can they stop him? Watch as the G-Force prepares for their final encounter with Godzilla all while having to deal with a monster created from the Oxygen Destroyer that destroyed the original Godzilla in this review and see what happens.
EDIT: Awe man, I was doing so well. I forgot to credit My Little Pony - Hasbro, Hans Zimmer - Welcome to the Oscars, and The Original Oscars theme.
According to various sources (some officials included), the idea with Destroyah's death was Godzilla's own intense meltdown heat combined with the military's freezing weapons subjected it to temperature shock. IE, Godzilla superheated it, then the military super cooled it, and then Godzilla's heat superheated it AGAIN, and it was basically a fragile wreck when it finally hit the ground.
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, we don't want to take the glory away from the military. :-)
Godzillawolf1 destroyah, king ghidorah, biollante and mecha godzilla space Godzilla are all taller then Godzilla
What does that have to do with what Godzillawolf1 said?
@@Shadowrulzalways Godzilla took on monster that was taller and stronger than him
@@MrBrandonStar Godzilla was strong enough to lift them off the ground.
Kaiju no Kami I saw the alternate ending of this movie. I have to Say i love the alternate ending. I understand that Toho didn’t want use it because It would take away from his character. But when Godzilla defeats destroyer not the military it makes Godzilla more badass. Overall I like both endings but prefer the alternate ending.
This is without a doubt my favorite Godzilla movie of all time!
I love the concept of Godzilla as a nuclear meltdown, the callbacks to the first movie, seeing old actors, and the ones from the Heisei ones make one last appearance.
The music is just Awsome! Destroyah is possibly my favorite villain from this era, I also like the look of Godzilla Jr and the Super X3.
The movie it's self has a grand sense of finality that I have hardly seen and any movie, and for me was an emotional roller coaster ride from the beginning all the way to the very end.
And I like how in the original Japanese ending we get credits to the 54 Godzilla all the way to Destroyah.
It's no surprise that the Heisei films are my favorite since unlike the others, there is a strong sense of continuity such as with Godzilla's appearance and returning actors, a good mix of old monsters while adding new ones. and there are hardly any off them that I disliked, and I just enjoyed rewatching them.
Though when rewatching them I did notice that the effects started to get weaker and weaker and I feel it had to do with the large size with the monsters. and it did kinda felt that they were starting to become less creative as they continue. but Boy does this movie make it all worth it!
I do like the continuity aspect. In fact, for a while that is why I considered the Heisei series my favorite. It wasn't until in more recent times that I've come to see the flaws in the entire era.
There was a deleted ending where Godzilla killed Destroyah right before dying himself
They decided not to use that one because they felt that it took away too much from Godzilla’s death
I don’t think so one last victory directly before you yourself die is the perfect tragedy I mean think about it you killed that thing that’s trying to kill you but you yourself are still going to die from a completely unrelated cause that’s a powerful thing
So I've heard.
The AVGN and the military deserve some credit. It’s one of the few times that the military stops a monster.
Yep.
I WISH GODZILLA movies play in FULL VERSION. ESPECIALLY ON RUclips. JUST SAYING WHATS YOUR THOUGHTS 💭
Do you mean the whole movie? If so, I don't see the point when it would be better just to buy the BD and own it forever.
Kaiju no Kami YEAH BUT THE IDEA OF HAVING A MOVIE 🎥 ON RUclips , JUST SAYING
Do you think the Monsterverse Burning Godzilla could kill Destroyah or at least weaken him enough for Godzilla in his normal form to kill him?
Probably given Destoroyah can barely move.
This is the only Godzilla flick where he raids Hong Kong.
Yep.
5:37
Yukari: "I think Ridley Scott's going to sue."
Destoroyah: "What are you talking about?" second mouth extends and makes that sound i can't pronounce!
Joseph Lytle
lol
James Cameron would also need to sue and David Finch since the scene in the car makes me think of Ridley in the shower scene for Alien 3.
Any thoughts on the Godzilla death theme "Requiem"?
+Hewylewis Are you talking about the end credits stuff? If so, I like it.
Kaiju no Kami No, when he is melting.
Couldn't find anything on the alternate ending, eh? Oh well. That actually solved the "Destoroyah gets killed by the army" problem.
Omni Viewer
Honestly, I flat out forgot to talk about it. :-p
Maybe I'll try to find another opportunity to do so later.
Kaiju no Kami Like a special? Heck, you could do an entire episode on alternate endings and unmade movies, maybe more. THAT I'd love to see.
Incidentally, I didn't say before, but this is a great review.
May I just point out that the military didn't kill Destroyah they only shot him down. When Destroyah fell he evaporated by Godzilla's heat. So Godzilla actually killed him. Plus the script says Godzilla finished him.
And Destroyah is not made from the oxygen destroyer, he is the oxygen destroyer. In the film they said that the oxygen destroyer was thought impossible but yet it's there right in front of our eyes. Destroyah is a living incarnation of the weapon and is said to be much more powerful. The one flaw is that the monster is weak again intense cold and intense hot temperatures. Which is why the military were able to shoot him down. They used freezer weapons. Godzilla's intense heat was also involved. So Destroyah got hit by both barrels.
@@omniviewer2115 do you love Godzilla vs destroyah?
The guy that made Godzilla vs biollante and king Ghidrah wrote this movie because in biollante. Biollante was definitely inspired by the planet from little shop of horror. Godzilla vs King Ghidorah was made the same year as t2
I think a cool idea for a Godzilla movie is if he were pure evil and was punishing humanity for the life he had and would be forced to fight Baragon, Anguirus, and Varan. Yes it does sound similar to GMK
lmao
I do appreciate the way this series gave us actual closure. Destroyah is a great idea, but I def wish that suit was capable of more mobility. He's a great villain though. The death of junior is almost worse than Godzilla's death. Def one of the best Heisei entries though. So I noticed you only offered 'nominations,' for the Darwin awards. Do we ever get to find out which idiot won?
The Kaijuologist
I'm going to be making a video for the nominations at the same time I film my review for 2000. More on that later.
2:04 i know she was one of the cosmos but what one was she because I’m sorry they look the same.
?
Kaiju no Kami cosmos from Godzilla vs mothra
what is your opinion on the the aliens ripoff in this movie? do you think it was done well to justify it?
Given that many companies American and Japanese have ripped off Aliens over the years, I don't really have an opinion on it. My biggest issue is just how boring it is due to its lackluster music.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork i personally always felt that the scene was really intense. It was one of the reasons i watched it when i was younger. It felt very thrilling. Its not so much now.
The answer across the board is 200% YES. But it's the Kaijuologist speaking...so let me get back to you in a day or two when I sober up friend ;-)
I'm going to be honest when it comes to this one I always think that it would be awesome for Sentai, Metal Heroes, and Kamen Rider to be in this universe. When it comes to Destoryah or er when James on his Godzillathon videos said that those scenes with the tiny one's attacking people almost make you forget that your watching a Godzilla movie and instead a B horror movie. I've never once thought that I've always thoughts that if Sentai, Metal Heroes, and Kamen Rider were here to transform and fight those monsters it would be an awesome fight.
I can see that.
7:37
Shit Godzilla again
Fuck it gotta get this laundry done
Godzilla's basically wearing orange as a new black in this movie.😂😂
lol
When you say OD xenomorph,
the OD stands Oxygen Destroyer right ?
Yep.
if destroyah could talk he would sound like rampage from transformers beast wars
He probably would. :-D
I think this is one of the better of this era movies, the human B-story complements not clashes with the A-story and the ticking clock of Godzilla's meltdown added a nice bit of tension and kept the story moving along at a nice pace. It did try to make a lot of crosslinks some of which were a little weakly handled but I did think the scientist was a mirror of the scientist in the original he believed that his discovery would only be used as a weapon while this one doesn't believe it will .
I have always wondered if having the military defeat Destoroyah was meant to say mankind must clean up it's own mess. As far as Destoroyah it was nice to see another kaiju with multiple forms like Hedorah but I think they should of lost wings once it landed which would of made it a more manveable suit making the fight scenes a little more dynamic.
I've seen this movie multiple times but the ending still gets me right in the feels and I think a lot of that is the great score and I completely agree the music in this is one of its strongest elements.
It is nice to have a human story that connected well with the monster one.
The Reason they killed Godzilla off was to make way for The American Adaptation in 1998
Yep.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Satsuma (Godzilla Gigan and Hedorah) walked out of the 1998 Screening
I'm not surprised.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Godzilla Mothra King Ghidorah and Baragon (2001) put the 1998 Film to Shame
You know if TOHO made Godzilla vs Ghost Godzilla it would be awsome
Yes it would
But it never happened.
I thought that the silhouette of Godzilla at the end was a little reference to Ghost Godzilla, a foe that Godzilla was meant to fight for the finale but Toho cancelled the idea and made the film completely different and made his opponent, Destroyah yes this film. Doesn't it make sense?
It would, but Toho apparently meant it to be Jr.
2:32 that's the 2nd time that song was used involving a nuke, last time was in saints row 4
lol I was thinking about Armageddon when I did that.
yeah I recently saw that's where it came from
This movie was the perfect end to the heisei series considering that Godzilla dies in this one due to a nuclear meltdown! That said my only complaint with this movie is the fact that Destoroyah's defeated not by Godzilla but by the military which i find anti-climatic considering that he just killed Junior who happens to be Godzilla's son and yet it's not Godzilla who defeats him at the end but the military who blast him out of the sky with their freezer tanks. Other than that good movie and one of the best of the series.
I get what they were going for with having the military destroy Destoroyah, but I agree.
Actually Destroyah was killed by Godzilla. The military only shot him down but the area affected by Godzilla's heat emitting from his body killed him. Drstroyah is weak against extreme cold and hot tempurtures. Destroyah is not at all that weak. He is 1 of the 3 only Kaiju that can kill Godzilla. 3 is Destroyah 2 is Kaizer Ghidorah and 1 is SpaceGodzilla. Godzilla's reactor meltdown is obviously a coincidence. No official explaination was given. The Millennium Godzilla's are far more powerful and have no problems. When I say Millennium I mean 1999/2000 and Final Wars Godzilla. Not GMK and 2002/2003.
+John Reeves Shhhhhhhh, don't take this way from the military. :-D
01:45 Finale?
What do you mean?
Kaiju no Kami This movie is a conclusion to what, again?
The Heisei Godzilla movies.
Why is it called the Darwin Aword?
Because it means people are doing dumb things to get themselves killed. Natural selection, as it were.
Kaiju no Kami Ah, ok
Do you think this movie would be better if Godzilla was the one who finished Destoroyah off at the end instead of the military? I mean considering that Destoroyah just killed Godzilla's son (i.e. Junior) in cold blood wouldn't it make sense for Godzilla to be the one to defeat/finish off Destoroyah off in order to avenge his son's death?
Nah, I think the one who killed Destroyah is irrelevant to the other short comings.
Toho did this so that the American Godzilla could happen sometime in 1997 (I hope it's amazing)
Pretty much.
This movie is awesome, one of the best godzilla movies ever and destroyah is a badass!
Do you have a favorite scene?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork will you admit that you're one of the few people who aren't a fan of it and everyone else loves it?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork my favorite is when Godzilla fought destroyah.
It's not that I'm not a fan of the movie, as I do enjoy it when I'm not reviewing it, it's just it isn't that great of a movie, therefore, I reviewed it poorly..
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork have you reviewed the anime trilogy?
4:03 Stop Motion Destroyah Crabs
RIP Godzilla :(
I bet the reason why they killed off Godzilla in that movie is to make way for the TriStar 1998 Godzilla, that didn't go too well
That's pretty much it.
I never understood the ending until now
What do you mean?
Kaiju no Kami well when Godzilla died when he melted down i know you know that but the final shot where we see Godzilla I’m like wait didn’t he die now It makes more sense that’s junior transformed when his father died
Ah, gotcha. Yeah, it took me a while to figure out what it meant too.
So what's the difference between Godzilla's meltdown and a typical Karen meltdown you see at the store everyday?
Absolutely nothing.
have you ever thought of doing the Gamera series?
+Matkaizer08 Yep. I'm not sure if I can sit through the entire Showa series from start to finish without breaks inbetween, but I do plan on tackling a couple movies from the franchise in 2016.
Kajiu no kami when I was little the fish scene always scared me and I always had to leave the room now it doesn’t scare me. I know this is a horror movie but still the rest of movie didn’t scare me for some strange reason.
For a moment there I was trying to think about which fish scene you were referring too and then it dawned on me. :-)
Kaiju no Kami do think Godzilla design in this movie was an inspiration for shin godzilla
Doubt it.
So if SpaceGodzilla is Raditz
Destoroyah is Cell
Huh?
I kinda agree about what you said about destroyah he's not very active
RIP Yosuke Saito
Sad moment godzilla dies and you ruin it
How so?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork because you're such an asshole.
I've always had a soft spot for the Heisei series. I find it disheartening that they have the largely polarized reception here in the west.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they're perfect by any means as they do certainly have some flaws which do get my nerves a little and they've had a few fuck-ups here and there (Godzilla Vs Mothra '92 being the only Heisei film that I genuinely dislike and I personally don't hate Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla, but I can see why a ton of people including yourself do) but that does not impact on my perception of them as a whole. Do I sound reasonable and unbiased?
No. I do think the movies are hated more than they need to be, as it seems like it is the cool thing to hate on the Heisei series, but it's hard to defend them when we have seen better, and better done 30 years prior. That is kind of sad because with advancements in technology these movies should have improved on the old stuff, not regressed. Aside from Mothra 92 and SG, I will never go out and say I hate a specific Heisei movie, it's just that they ae sadly not the quality movies I once thought they were myself. :-(
Oh, except for the MonsterArts line. Good god I am so sick and tired of seeing Heisei repaints and stuff. Showa some love Bandai!
Godzilla 1995 is also known as Burning Godzilla.
+Josh Isip Fabella Yep, I know. :-)
Because the shows series is the best
How does that instantly make this movie terrible though?
Your right,it's still a good movie, even though the effects are bad
I watched this movie like a couple years ago and it was ok .
What did you not like about it?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork the characters/characterization, the writing, the special effects/miniatures , the cinematography is dull and lifeless and destroyah himself is just an annoying presence in the movie.
I in space no one can hear you scream.
lol
I thought I was the only one who thought the silhouette scene was just Godzilla saying goodbye and will live on forever in cinema history. Funny how they keep trying to put Godzilla to rest but always end up bringing him back.
I hope it's like the heisei series where it has an overarching plot instead the millennium with a bunch of one shots. Explore some new ideas Toho instead of cramming another Godzilla x Mothra x (let's pull a monster name out of the hat) movie. Sure those gain alot of money but they get boring fast. Yet, I'm not really against them using old monsters, just put a new twist on them to make them interesting again.
nocturned85
Actually, I would rather they didn't. The continuity aspect of the Heisei series was completely under utilized and feels tacked on and forced at times. It's like Toho did not want to follow the continuity after the first few movies but felt required to.
If they are going to actually take it seriously next time, then yes, it would be cool. If not, I'd rather they just did what they did with the Millennium series. Of course, I do think the Kiryu movies are the strongest from a narrative standpoint because it not only follows the original movie, but includes other movies from the Showa era in it as well.
I'd love to see King Ceasar and Titanosaurus featured in some new movies and maybe Rodan done right.
understandable. to me, the mill series just seemed like they didn't know what to do with the series and just kept feeding off of the first movie.
I would actually like to see Godzilla fight a variety/clan of Gargantuas that come in different shapes and sizes with a big budget.
nocturned85
To be fair, that also does allow anyone to pick up a movie (sans SOS) without any previous knowledge of Godzilla and enjoy it without being lost. It's not like the Showa era had very strong continuity either. Yes, it was there, but you could watch any movie in any order without an issue. With the Heisei series, you are kind of lost if you just go into one of them without knowing about the previous movies, especially in the G-Force trilogy.
Of course, we'll see what happens when I review the Millennium series. There might be things that stand out for the negative now and there may be things I like even more. Without going into too much detail, GMK is currently my favorite Godzilla movie of all time, but maybe that will change once I do my review of it as my top 10 list has already changed significantly due to looking at the movies from a different perspective.
i agree, some movies can be a mess if you go in and watch any of them but only if you're interested in the series. I know people who just take random Godzilla movies after watching G98 or G2014 and just give up after one because of the usual... "if it's not made in modern USA and a big budget then it's crap". It depends on the person who wants to give it the time.
As for continuity itself. It depends where Toho wants to take it. To me they really only cared how to bring Godzilla back from the last movie in a plausible way and after that it's China town. Atleast in the earlier ones when they wanted to connect them, then later Godzilla showa and heisi films didn't really need an explanation how he came back. Kind of just chills until he's needed.
Another form of continuity in the Showa films... with the War of the Gargantuas supposed to be a sequel to Frankenstein Conquers the World but changes were made to the script. Germany seemed bummed out about that and for some reason corporates Dr. Frankenstein into the showa Godzilla plots, as that would explain the german posters to the films having the Frankenstein name attached.
So I was wondering if you finish the reviews. Would you have any interest of talking about the cut projects? Or maybe other Kaiju films?
nocturned85
Cut projects?
I'm definitely going to be tackling other stuff, with Mothra and Rodan being in my top lists along with the Heisei Gamera trilogy.
My currently plan after I do Godzilla 2014 is to spend (hopefully) July reviewing some King Kong movies. After that, my schedule is unknown because I'm hoping I will have a full time position in August. If so, my review speeds will slow down massively, but I will continue with them. I've already got plans laid out for October on both the Toho front with maybe an iconic American horror movie.
Of course, I've also gotten through the Godzilla series a lot faster than I anticipated. I was originally aiming to get one review out every 2 weeks, but I learned how to work Sony Vegas so quickly and had the advantage of not working every day to get these out. In fact, most of my time has been focused on these reviews to the point that I haven't even had the chance to watch as much Sentai fansubs or play some video games as I was hoping to. Hell, my Power Rangers Legacy box set is collecting dust right now. It's cool though, as I'm having a blast with these. :-)
If feel that destroyah is good monster with an amazing design and his size makes him intimidating but it also sadly it makes him slow and for you saying that he is the weakest of them all is not true Godzilla was at a hole new level of power and destroyah was able to be on par with him and the military getting rid of him only because of his one weakness to cold temperatures similar to them using nuclear retardant song Godzilla in early films but still I enjoyed your review
When did I say he was the weakest monster of Godzilla's villains?
Kaiju no Kami I meant weakest in the movie not villains and you stated this towards the end of the review I believe
Which part? Sorry, I did this review over a year ago, so I don't remember what I said. However, if I recall, I was making a joke about him being defeated by the military, so it wasn't meant to be taken seriously.
Kaiju no Kami oh then my apologies just was trying to clear it up confusion and keep up your kaiju reviews I really enjoy them
No worries. Glad you are enjoying the reviews.
DESTROYAH is the heisei version of hedorah which I like hedorah more so
Hedorah sucks.

That's cool. My first was 85.
Just got son of Godzilla today so happy
Cool. I'm eagerly awaiting for Criterion to release the 10 films they have licensed.
Kaiju no Kami yeah me too It would be nice to finally have those movies on blu ray well there are but in only in japan which sucks and they don’t have English subtitles. But I’m just happy to have them in some format
This one if fuckin awsome
your way too picky with these movies dude....
I'm reviewing them. I've got to look at them from a critical standpoint here.
Kaiju no Kami I'm critical.....in my pants!
Kaiju no Kami seriously I'm very picky what kind I wear! Only jeans damn it!
