This film made Godzilla so intimidating and look more powerful. Not to mention he was practically immortal. I mean his heart was still beating. Sure in the Heisei films and 2000 they said one cell can regenerate into a new Godzilla. And he always had a regeneration factor. But the fact the heart was still beating without a body shows this Godzilla can NEVER truly die. This is why he is my 3rd favorite Godzilla incarnation. Also the missiles never did any damage on the first try. Ghidorah was the only one to wound Godzilla.
Since you mentioned how powerful the three guardian monsters should be in relation to Godzilla, it gave me an idea; my boy Zilla would be somewhere in the middle in terms of power level; higher than Mothra and Baragon, but lower than Godzilla and Ghidorah. What do you think of this analogy?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork physically, or more durable? Especially since a lot of fans like to think (reimagine, that is) of Zilla as a subspecies of Godzilla.
The SPX Director on GMK was Makoto Kamiya, Shinji Higuchi's assistant on the Heisei Gamera films (1995-99). Higuchi was unavailable due to protect he was working on. He did direct one sequence in GMK: the one where Godzilla destroys the fighter planes.
I think that what they did with Godzilla in this conveys a very important message that more should hear. While Godzilla originally symbolized the horror of the atomic bomb, GMK referenced the horriffic war crimes hat the imperialist Japanese army committed during WW2. To this day, Japan forgets or even denies that these horrible atrocities occurred. This film is a different point of view. While the message of the horror of the atomic bomb is very important, it may turn off some who see things from a different point of view: that the atomic bombs stopped the horrific atrocities that Japan was causing. I think that this addition to the franchise helps to show that Godzilla is NOT just a 1-sided argument that demonize the bomb while also denying Japan's atrocities. It shows that the series can see both sides.
Fun Fact: The girl who survived the hostel attack and then later killed by Godzilla's tail while in the hospital is played by Tomoe Shinohara. She is a pop singer who was (sort of) popular in Japan back then. I heard she's still singing songs today, but not that well known anymore.
One of the best Godzilla films of them all!! Zero campiness, bold use of CG (in that time), a good King Ghidorah, and a Godzilla that is absolutely out to spitefully murder people!
They can keep the bold use of CG as far as I'm concerned. There is a CG shot of a navy ship (apparently no stock footage is available anywhere) right before Yuri's father recounts Godzilla's '54 raid that is so bad it takes me completely out of the picture. I would have preferred a toy ship in a bathtub.
I am also a king ghidorah fan, but I love this version of Ghidorah, its one of my favorites. Its interesting and cool to see a good king Ghidorah. The movie gives off a sense that king Ghidorah is like an underdog that we can rout for. I also LOVE the design of this Ghidorah, given its flaws. It definitely wouldn't work as well for an evil king ghidorah, but I think it definitly works well for a good Ghidorah.
I always thought Ghidorah being the hero in this made sense. Golden Dragons are usually lucky, and most of the times Ghidorah appears he is being controlled.
I definitely agree with you on GMK. I really did enjoy this movie especially it's characters and music, but the rest is kinda a mixed bag. The monster designes were mixed. The fights felt a bit lackluster since Godzilla would just completely dominate a lot of the fights making them feel one-sided. The origin of Godzilla I thought was pretty neat and I do like seeing Baragon, though I'm disappointed that Anguirus wasn't in this movie since he is among my favorites. Overall I did enjoy this more than the previous 2 and it's mabey near my top 10.
You make the best gojira review. Most godzilla channel put little work into there vídeos. I hope you get more subscriber because your reviews are nearly perfect. Keep up the great work!
I like Baragon a lot and it’s awesome he is in this movie. Definitely the highlight of the movie for me. Love Godzillas design and even though Varan was scrapped from this movie I like how they add his facial features to Ghidorah.
GMK is one of my favorites. I do agree that Ghidorah's design and overall weakness was a major letdown. Maybe if Mothra's death had woken him up at the end, and it was only then that he showed up for the final battle, as an even match against Godzilla. The whole film could have been a build-up to Ghidorah's awakening. Oh well. But I loved having him as a good-guy. I don't agree about the Joker comparison, in the previous films Ghidorah just seemed more like an animal or an indifferent force of destruction, like Godzilla usually is, but not a proper bad-guy. The Joker is more of a sadistic psychopath, who actually enjoys the suffering of others.
There was other idea with Shusuke Kaneko's Godzilla film was Godzilla Vs. Kamacuras and Godzilla Vs. M but Kaneko discarded idea until he decided to pick Guardian monsters of trio Showa-Era reptiles was Godzilla X Varan, Baragon, and Anguirus: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack until Toho asked Kaneko to replace Varan and Anguirus with Mothra and King Ghidorah for final product and GMK was my favorite film of all time
+Michael Deak To be honest, I'm not sure because I'm really not that big of an Ultraman fan compared to Sentai and Kamen Rider. I like Ultraseven and I own the original series on DVD, but that is about it. I guess it really just depends if I get around to it. I did like Ultraman the Next, and I also own that DVD, so if anything, I might review that sooner than I would the TV series.
+Kaiju no Kami I did like Ultra Seven as well. It would be my all time favorite Ultra Series, if only they took a break from the alien invasion stories, and threw in a few references to Ultra Q and Ultraman.
Well since we were talking about it in the Gingaman video I had to come here and see what you thought on this movie. My thoughts haven't changed since I watched it back when I was 14/15 when they aired it on SciFi back before the channel was a joke. But you pick this version for the fight we were talking about? When I first saw this Godzilla look just didn't do it for me here. Also they made him look stupid when he blow himself up. Did you pick up on it? When I saw the edited version on SciFi I was like "okay". Then when I saw it on the DVD in it's real version I was like "YOU MADE HIM LOOK LIKE A FOOL". Since then I haven't watched it because it made me mad. It still makes me mad to be honest. Then I go back watch Godzilla 2000 then I'm happy again.
Oh god, don't get me started on how Sci-Fi aired nor how terrible the dub is. I wish Sony would rerelease this movie with an actual translation instead of their bullshit dubtitles.
This movie rocks. Yes, Ghidorah should always be the bad guy, but it still rocks. I really wish they had used this Godzilla suit again. They could have added pupils and he would have not be "supernatural", but would have still been bad ass.
Just a heads up, that's a room full of Sailors or Seamen at the beginning. Soldiers are in the Army, those guys are in the Navy. Also, I love the way you're stroking that Godzilla figure XD
Never warmed to the Goji suit in GMK. That wide horse riding stance, those big ass feet, the beer gut, and that block head - it's all kinda chibi actually. Much prefer the SOS design, with its tighter, more streamlined aesthetic, just wished it looked less rubbery in the film. Anyway, excellent job here.
+kaijuchevrolet I fell in love with Goji suit a soon as I saw the movie. He just looked so monstrous. Until recently, it was my top favorite Godzilla suit. It was also my favorite Godzilla until I was doing these reviews. I still like the movie a lot, but unlike GxMG, I don't love it as much as I used to. I also like the Kiryu Goji suit more now.
+Kaiju no Kami I typed my comment as I was watching the review, didn't realize how much you dug the suit X0 Different strokes I guess, and I totally see why you're a fan. Sorry, no nastiness intended.
+kaijuchevrolet Huh? I never read your post with nastiness. I just was responding is all. I figure most of us are all adults here, we know how to read the difference between and opinion and fact, so no worries.
+Kaiju no Kami Cool, just didn't want to come across like I was taking a dig at your opinion, and I was referring to nastiness in my comment, not how you interpreted it.
I'm very mixed on this movie because I didn't like the first time, then gave it another chance last week to keep myself up to date with your reviews. Again one part of me thinks that this movie is overrated but other part says it was well deserved it's praise for the special effects and a few other things. Yeah, I'm a bit bewildered why Godzilla has to be evil or the antagonist to represent the whole "force of nature" trope when he does it well as an anti-hero. Or a few times as a good guy still. King Ghidorah, while hypocritical of me to say this but... he should never be a good guy let alone be on Mothra's side. Hell they could have reversed the roles in this movie again to have King Ghidorah in G's role... but then that probably leave Godzilla underpowered... or maybe not. Who knows. My dad did tell me back then when I was little that Godzilla movies were alot like wrestling, he'd be a bad guy for a bit then go good then back to bad then good while other monsters did the same. And because of this movie. I tend to not favor the whole Triple-threat movies of Godzilla X Random Monster X (Mechagodzilla/Mothra/Ghidorah) because they tend to go down the same route of having Godzilla getting the short end of the stick in the end when Mothra just teams up with whatever monster to beat him. It got annoying where I thought if they kept going in that formula then they would eventually have Mothra team up with Gigan or Hedorah to fight Godzilla... that would be the biggest WTF ever. Hell Toho might as well just go out and just do Godzilla x Mothra x MechaGodzilla x King Ghidorah. Great work as usual.
Japaninhimself It would have been interesting to see how they would have been handled. Plus, yes, it would have been nice to see them since that would have been the first time since the 60s and 70s they would have been seen.
This is one of the better movies of the millennium series considering that it's got a rather creepy and unnerving Godzilla design in it! Add to the fact that it's also got Baragon, Mothra and King Ghidorah makes this movie one of the best of the series! I wished they brought Anguirus and Varan in this movie though but oh well.
Seeing Ghidorah as a good guy and being shorter than Godzilla is odd considering that he's normally an evil monster who towers over him in the other movies! Add to the fact that this was the only movie where he's a good monster makes this portrayal of Ghidorah the most weird portrayal of him to date!
From what I understand, Toho did not approach Shusuke Kaneko. Instead, he approached them, wanting badly to do a Godzilla film. Part of the agreement for letting him direct a Godzilla flick was that he first had to "prove his worth" (as if the Gamera trilogy wasn't enough!) by directing the film "Pyrokinesis."
The 5 guardian monsters for my own gmk film Mothra: god of the forest Varan: god of the sky Baragon: god of the earth Anguirus: god of the sea King Caesar: the guardian of Okinawa
I have a better idea. How about Varan: god of the sky Manda: god of the sea King Caesar: the guardian of Okinawa. The three guardian beasts who team up with Godzilla and mothra to defeat his three headed nemesis king Ghidorah. And I know king Ghidorah is a good guy in gmk, but he’s mostly a bad guy you know, a villain, and antagonist.
I do like this movie. But, I think it would have been better if... - They kept Anguirus and Varan. Because... 1. Anguirus is my favorite monster in the franchise (besides Godzilla himself). and I think it would have been a welcome return for a fan favorite Godzilla Kaiju who has not been seen since Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla(1974), and I thought the suit wold look have awesome if Anguirus was kept, it would have looked way better than that piece of sh*t suit we had to get in Final Wars, do not get me started with that sh*tty suit. 2. It would have been a great approtunity to see Varan in a Godzilla movie, the last time we saw him in a Godzilla movie was DAM; unfortunately, it was a brief cameo. Quick Note: We see Varan as one of the main Kaiju in the 2014 fan film Godzilla Battle Royale, now it's awesome to see Varan as one of the main Kaiju, but unfortunately it's only just a FAN FILM. -They make the heroic monsters in this movie either as or a little more powerful as Godzilla, while it can prove that when Godzilla is pinned down, he can always pick himself up, push forward, and fight harder for the win. Well, that's two things I thought would make GMK better.
Kaiju no Kami Fun Fact: Fuyuki Shinada (who designed the suits in this movie) was disappointed that Varan wasn't going to be in the movie because of the fact that Varan is his all time favorite monster. Bonus: Due to his disappointment, he put some of Varan's facial features on each of Ghidorah's thee heads.
I wanted of them to make the most evil King Ghidorah in this movie, but they done it to Godzilla instead. King Ghidorah should be a lot bigger in here. This movie has a great plot anyways!
+Spencer Hell That was an error on my part as I misread the wrong name when I wrote my script. Higuchi did direct the effects for the scene when the plane are attacking Godzilla in the mountainous region though.
You tease you:-) I saw your video come up on my updates last night, then I couldn't find it...Great review, and I think a well measured take on the film. You can't help but love this one, but I'm confused by how many in the fandom develop a freakish boner over it. I think Kaneko had two noticeable obstacles. The 'Toho,' industry standards (i.e. MAKE US MONEY NOW!!) and his weird tendency to over reach on the philosophical/political hoo-de-who. He's a director of striking images, a critical talent as a director, but he's not he poet he wants to be at times. I def noticed this re-analyzing my Gamera 2 review. I wanted to believe the dots all connected, and I'm just not convinced he always hits that mark. He does give us a deep reverence for the Kaiju, and a smart discussion and tweak of the Kaiju's roots. Easier to do with Gamera than the complex beast that is Godzilla and his respective franchise. This review def makes me want to re-watch this one. It's been about a year since I took it in. I really wish we could've seen the Varan/Anguirus version. But we still got a highly engaging Kaiju film, if a lop-sided 'Godzilla,' film.
King Ghidorah: the humans and monsters are supposed to help Godzilla beat a ghidorah not the other way around Death Ghidorah: Your a disgrace to ghidorahs everywhere Kaiser Ghidorah: this coming from a ghidorah that got his ass kicked by a moth
Kaiju no Kami in my opinion the Godzilla scenes were awesome he manages to take our 11 monsters by himself . Sure he did have trouble with Keizer ghidorah but yet again he’s always had trouble fighting ghidorah. The action scenes are fun yes they do copy the matrix and Star Wars but in my defense the matrix and Star Wars did get some inspiration for some Japanese movies like Star Wars is based of samurai movies but in a future like setting and matrix is every king fu movie ever . Yes the fights in the movie are short but it shows how badass Godzilla is. He manages to throw and pick up Keizer ghidorah like he’s nothing. He manages to defeat some of toughest adversaries from the showa era. A freaking asteroid hits him and there is no scratches on him at all.The movie is pretty much one big action scene.
Star Wars may have been based on samurai movies, but Lucas didn't straight up rip off scenes from those movies for SW. There's a big difference. Let's take the scene from Destoroyah for example when the soldiers are hunting the creatures. Everything in that whole thing was clearly ripped off a Aliens even down to some of the camera angles. The original 54 Godzilla film was inspired by King Kong and The Beast of 20000 Fathoms, but it didn't rip its scenes right out of those movies. Final Wars ripped off those scenes even down to the same camera angles. Now I do agree if you are looking for one big action sequence, Final Wars is definitely the way to go. I personally like to have a reason to care about my human characters since they are going to be taking up a big chunk of screen time. Nevertheless, I get your points. :-)
Kaiju no Kami it is a well known creepypasta, internet ghost story, of a person who purchased an old copy of the NES Godzilla game, though the game turns out to be possessed and glitches with modern kaiju and new monsters, you might like it or hate it but I enjoy hearing your reviews and thought it be fun
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork both depending how you search for it. It was an original story with edited screen caps of the game to aid the story. But it also can be a video series by searching up youtube creepypasta narrators.
I feel like this movie tried to be a natural disaster with kaijus, as well as a special military that fights them, but without the science patrol stuff like in ultraman
The cast here is awesome and honestly, it's not a terrible movie. I didnt agree with making Godzilla evil but they pulled it off. The movie had good elements but Mothra didn't look good.
I can't say for certain, but I think the 'Digital Q' Yuri Tachibana worked for may have been a ref/homage to 'Ultra Q', the Twilight Zone-like anthology SF series that spawned the Ultra Heroes series.
To me Godzilla's design is in this movie is one of my three favorites the other two being from final wars and Godzilla vs. Destroyah. the thing I love about this movie the most is by far the special effects because they are just so..... you know what I can't really think of a word to describe the special effects. In the end I give this movie and easy 8/10
zero two Yeah, GMK is a fantastic movie, it just isn't the masterpiece I once considered it to be. Instead of being my favorite Godzilla movie (or second favorite depending how I place the original), it is more like #5. Godzilla's design is incredible though and I would love to have it in MonsterArt form.
Kaiju no Kami oh hmm maybe after the Godzilla reviews you could do the gamera movies. I'd love to see what you think of them. while they seem to be a bit slow at times I still like them especially the ones with legion and baragon...barugon...however you say his name.
zero two I'm going to work on Gamera movies, but I'm going to have to take the Showa films at a pace. I just can never sit through them without getting bored, especially after the first one. The trilogy fro the 90s, however, is going to be reviewed soon. Right now, I am aiming to finish the Millennium era around the time Batman Arkham Knight comes out, review G2014 shortly after, and then do a King Kong theme throughout July.
This movie is really good, but there are some things that I don't quite like about it: 1. I appreciate the idea of Godzilla being an embodiment of the souls of all Japanese soldiers who died in WW2 (just like Shusuke Kaneko wanted), but I can't quite stand the idea of Godzilla being pure evil. Also, why would spirits of all those soldiers want to destroy Japan if they were protecting it in the war (that's clearly stated in the movie)? I have no idea! 2. Other monsters in here didn't deserved to be soooo underpowered! 3. King Ghidorah should have been the most evil monster in this movie! 4. Some Varan's facial features on Ghidorah's heads make him look like a gigantic reptilian sabertooth tiger! 5. The legs on Mothra puppet are too long! That are just mine honest opinions!
It is an interesting idea, but ultimately I agree about the souls wanting to attack Japan making no sense. I actually don't have an issue with the Mothra legs as I just see it as another take on the monster. I really like the stinger aspect too. As for Ghidorah, I don't always need him to be evil, but he should have been bigger. I think the monsters being underpowered would have made more sense if it featured the original plans for Varan and Anguirus as the movie was supposed to be three underdogs struggling to combat Godzilla. Everyone had to work together to defeat him. We're just really use to seeing Mothra and Ghidorah be powerful.
Not sure what your question is, but if you are asking me which I think is better between those two, easily the 54 movie. The 84 doesn't even break my top 10.
Hey Kami, I did watch your other reviews up to this one, but I didn't have anything to offer, so I didn't comment. (Sorry) Here is something though-you mentioned the comic reactions of the people running away. Among them are the actors in the Godzilla and Ghidorah suits! Also, the Baragon actress is the first (and only thus far) woman in a suit portraying a Kajiu! Not only is she cute, but if you look at the making of it, she says she was so excited to be doing this that she couldn't help roaring in the suit (of course the sound effects were added later so it didn't matter). Here is a link to that interview (and you can hear her roar): ruclips.net/video/rISRifRAKyI/видео.html So, this movie was ok. I agree that Ghidorah as a good guy is off-putting. I wish they did add Varan, but I am glad Anguilus wasn't in it as I always see him as Godzilla's best friend (Godzilla Raids Again notwithstanding). Varan would have been great to replace Ghidorah though. I don't work for Marc Cerassi-I promise! (I know I always plug his books). But, he really did justice to both of those lesser known monsters in his books. (Even though they actually didn't fight Godzilla, just human-made robots) I also always get a quick out of the part where the reporter yells, "Ooh! Godzilla just kicked the red monster in the gravel pits!" I don't know how it came off in the subtitled version, but in the dubbed one, it just sounds so funny! Have you seen the dubbed version?
Nothing to be sorry for. Sometimes I have nothing to really respond with, but I like to at least make a comment so the poster knows I did see it. Especially since RUclips is not always great at telling me there are new comments in a review. Sometimes I stumble across them by accident. I watched the dubbed version once when it aired on TV and will never do that again. And there's nothing wrong with promoting Cerasini. He did a good job. :-)
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Why don't you like the dubbed version? Oh, since you said, "RUclips is not always great at telling me there are new comments", I thought I would mention that I made quite a few comments in replies to other people's comments. Since you haven't responded to any of these, but you do respond to comments that I start, I thought I would let you know May I ask you something else? How old are you? I assume you are younger than I?
I have a real soft spot for this one. This is my 3rd favourite Godzilla movie, though I've seen just a few. I have 2 hot takes on this movie 1. The Mothra in gmk is better than the one in Tokyo sos. Her design is better first of all to me. I think Tokyo sos has a tad bit too much fur while gmk has a more slick warrior like appearance. Second Tokyo sos Mothra stalls Godzilla from afternoon to evening... Seriously? 64 Mothra could stall goji for 1 minute only. That conveyed his utter power over Mothra. Gmk Mothra doesn't have twin fairies and thus that strengthens her in a different way to me. I love how she doesn't give anything about the humans. 2. Gmk Ghidorah is good. I know he's offensive to Ghidorah's original character but still I think he serves the movie well. First i love that he was originally yamata no orochi. Second the pure spectacle offered and how goji resists them shows how unstoppable he is. Gotta love how he just absorbs Ghidorah's beams and reflects them along with his breath and just obliterates him.
I like the Mothra design here, but I perfer the Tokyo SOS one bcause she is supposed to be furry like the Showa version was. Nevertheless, glad to see another GMK lover.
Great movie but man would have been better with Angurus and Varan Also the Gutango/Atragon was suppose to be part of the movie, finishing off Godzilla after the guardian monsters are killed
This Godzilla was fantastic but what they did to Ghidorah is terrible. In the Showa series Ghidorah would have killed any kaiju 1 on 1, and Godzilla always needed help and sometimes a lot of help to win so imo he is really the King of the monsters. I also can't accept Ghidorah as a good guy monster. If they used Anguirus instead this would have been a much better film.
Well this is where I'll tell u different according to 1 of the characters ghidorah was supposed to sleep for 3,000 years, and only 2,000 years have gone by, meaning he still had some growing to do but since he was awaken by the old man to fight godzilla he could'nt grow anymore and be that powerful like his incarnations.i just wanted to point that out for u and i respect your opinion but that's i saw it and why ghidorah wasn't at full strength.
I watched this last night with subtitles and I'm remembering the old man saying Ghidorah had slept 2000 years of a potential 10000 year sleep or something like that. Can anyone confirm this?
my expectations were too high for this movie i just didnt love it the gamera trilogy was amazing. i agree with other mothra and ghidorah were miscast. i dont think gojira even broke a sweat in this one. i would have liked to have seen varan take on on godzilla.
+kurumais I think I managed to see this at the right time (just shortly after it hit DVD in Japan) because there really wasn't any hype around it. For years it was my favorite Godzilla movie, but now it has kind of slid down the list a little.
Yeah I've always had mixed feelings about this movie it's a Godzilla movie and it does kick along with one of the better human B-Stories but The origin change and having Gidorah as a good guy just don't sit right, as I'm get a nervous tick whenever people start plying around with character origins because it so often ends badly, yes fantic4stic I am looking at you. The kaiju again a mixed bag Godzilla looks good with the exception of the neck which overlong and stooped forward oddly but this is a minor niggle on overall great look with the lifeless eyes being striking. Mothra is hit and miss with the CGI enhanced flight making her look good and the purple eyes are nice contrast but the illusion tarnishes somewhat in the close ups and I completely agree she has a bad case of plastic model kit. Gidorah just looks out of proportion with the necks being way to short and the odd offset placement. Baragon is the winner he looks good and my praise goes out to the suit actor because it must be a pig moving around on all fours like that in a suit and he has managed to make him look quick and nimble.
I didn't like the flipping of the monsters' good/evil alignment but also, as I remember it, this one had an intentionally goofy/camp style, too many jokes. I enjoy G-movies best when they're played straight (my favorites are the original '54 [Japanese version] '84 [Japanese version] and 2014). Maybe I'll give this one a re-try, since I'm going thru the series again.
***** Are you sure? Oops, I misread my information. Higuchi was on the movie, but he only did the scene when Godzilla fought the jets. Makoto Kamiya was the director, who also worked on the Gamera trilogy.
Kaiser DaShawn Well remember Heisei Ghidorah who is stronger than both the Showa and GMK Ghidorah, couldn’t easily overpower Heisei Godzilla. In fact Godzilla has overpowered him twice (if you count Mecha-King Ghidorah who is more powerful than the regular one).
Hay while I'm 1 of the few who likes this movie though u and a few others do point out some the proboems of this like ghidorah being a good guy and not being taller then godzilla i still do respect your opinion but that's not what I wanted to say another actress is wanted to point out is ai maeba from gamera 3 as ayana and her sister aki maeba who played those some mothra twins when no mothra was flying through but u probably knew that already.
Yes I did, but thanks for that info nonetheless. It's strange because this movie blew me away when I first saw it in 2002 and I have watched it many times over since. It wasn't until more recently where I started to see flaws with the movie and not like some things about it now that I didn't mind then. Regardless, it may not be my favorite Godzilla movie, but it is one down right entertaining as all hell movie.
I watched this one for the first time last night and I thought there was a lot to love about this movie. Godzilla's atomic breath is truly spectacular and the suit actor playing him was amazing! Regarding the size thing, Ghidorah is supposed to be a juvenile and, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Godzilla back to being a hundred meters in this one? He seems big. I much prefer a 50 meter Godzilla for the sake of the detail that goes in to the miniatures when he's smaller.
Godzilla is 60 meters in this one, which funny enough, is the same size as Gamera. Glad you enjoyed it though because it is a good one, especially when you see it for the first time.
Agreed.
I guess that would be cool, though I'm pretty sure Mothra is much stronger than Zilla. :-D
It's a shame anguirus and Varan were removed. But hey, they brought anguirus back for final wars
Yeah.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork they latter paid tribute to it in a book and comic.
I just realised that Varan wasn't in final wars! And that one had every monster and the kitchen sink! Why doesn't he get any love?
Yeah, I totally get all of that. It's an interesting take.
Fun Fact: The girl who survived the hostel attack and then later killed by Godzilla's tail while in the hospital is played by Tomoe Shinohara. She is a pop singer who was (sort of) popular in Japan back then. I heard she's still singing songs today, but not that well known anymore.
Interesting. Did not know that.
She was also in Godzilla: Final Wars, but I forgot what scene she was in.
One of the best Godzilla films of them all!! Zero campiness, bold use of CG (in that time), a good King Ghidorah, and a Godzilla that is absolutely out to spitefully murder people!
+Varixx of the Last Phalanx Agreed with most of this.
Toy boat. Toy boat. Toy boat. Toy boat.
I agree there. I love this version even if I'm not 100% satisfied with the execution.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork yeah. Funny thing is right after i posted this i was like "fuck i need to get a figure of this" XD
To be honest I am on the bandwagon of those who would’ve vastly preferred this film had it went the original intended route with Varan and Anguirus.
Nothing wrong with that.
Watched for the first time today. Loved it. Possibly the best Godzilla movie I’ve seen.
What was your favorite scene?
When he wrecked the city. Love the wide shots of him stomping along and that mushroom cloud as you pointed out.
I always thought Ghidorah being the hero in this made sense. Golden Dragons are usually lucky, and most of the times Ghidorah appears he is being controlled.
Interesting point.
Does anyone know where to find it in Latin American Spanish?
If I come across someone who does, I'll let you know.
My favourite Godzilla movie. For once the human story is watchable and interesting, and the monster battles and little scenes are a joy.
I like them a lot.
I still hope we will one day see Anguirus in a new proper Godzilla movie.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Same. :-(
best godzilla reviewer!!!!!
+GMKzilla 2001 Thank you. :-)
Yeah, I do like that they gave Ghidorah some of Varan's features. Had I been doing that review today, I would have brought that up.
Kaiju no Kami if I ever make another King Ghidorah costume I might base it off the one in this movie. Or I might just make a Varan costume. Lol
That would have been cool to see a fully powered Ghidorah.
Kaiju no Kami the scene that still scare me is when you see Godzilla’s heart with Akira Ifukube terrifying score
It is such an awesome scene.
Kaiju no Kami I mean I don’t hate it. But it just scares me that’s all
I wish the guardian monsters were angurus, varan and baragon
It would have been interesting and made more sense as to why the monsters couldn't defeat Godzilla on their own.
Godzilla's white eyes are pure nightmare fuel
:-D
There was other idea with Shusuke Kaneko's Godzilla film was Godzilla Vs. Kamacuras and Godzilla Vs. M but Kaneko discarded idea until he decided to pick Guardian monsters of trio Showa-Era reptiles was Godzilla X Varan, Baragon, and Anguirus: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack until Toho asked Kaneko to replace Varan and Anguirus with Mothra and King Ghidorah for final product and GMK was my favorite film of all time
I would have loved to have seen how Anguirus and Varan would have faired.
The luck dragon poster is not the only significance, Godzilla actually appears at Yaizu which was the home port of the Luck Dragon No.5.
+Michael Deak Interesting, that I did not know.
I know that your not going to be reviewing any Ultraman any time soon. But will you eventually?
+Kaiju no Kami After all, Ultraman is closer to Godzilla than any Rider or Sentai.
I like how they change Godzilla to a killing machine yes it does change what Honda did but it something new for the series
That I do agree with.
I like how you somewhat explained how Yuri ended up in the Satsuma. That was hilarious.
+Ian Greene (Godzilla) Thanks. :-)
I didn't understand that-can you explain please
What is favorite rodan moment mine I would say is the Air battle between rodan and ghidorah then they fly into each other awesome sauce
When the second Rodan first shows up in the original film as you didn't expect to see that happen.
Adam Smasher
I would still love to have Kaneko return and do another movie in this universe.
Yes! Even if it were another monster and not Godzilla. We need it! LoL
Just a heads up, that's a room full of Sailors or Seamen at the beginning. Soldiers are in the Army, those guys are in the Navy.
Also, I love the way you're stroking that Godzilla figure XD
I have no idea what the difference is, so they are all just soldiers to me. Thanks.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Me too
Never warmed to the Goji suit in GMK.
What do you think is the most badass Godzilla
GMK.
If they did make a sequel I would probably have it Godzilla Vs. Varin, Angeris, and King Cezar! Gaint Monsters All Out Attack II.
I'd be okay with that.
If you're going to make a Godzilla movie, how it's going to be called and what story would be like?
lol I actually talked about that in my Q&A video from last week.
Kaiju no Kami What episode?
The third Q&A.
Kaiju no Kami Thanks, I'll watch it!👍
I'm very mixed on this movie because I didn't like the first time, then gave it another chance last week to keep myself up to date with your reviews.
Kind of wish Varan and Anguirus were in the movie! Like they were originally intended.
Japaninhimself It would have been interesting to see how they would have been handled. Plus, yes, it would have been nice to see them since that would have been the first time since the 60s and 70s they would have been seen.
Would you make a review of the "Inglorious Bastards" (2009)?
Perhaps at some point. Same for the rest of Tarantino's stuff.
Agreed on all accounts.
What Is Your Favorite Movie From Super Sentai
My favorite Godzilla movie is destroy all monsters what a great film.
Nice choice.
Kaiju no Kami thanks.
11 Giants in 1
Seeing Ghidorah as a good guy and being shorter than Godzilla is odd considering that he's normally an evil monster who towers over him in the other movies! Add to the fact that this was the only movie where he's a good monster makes this portrayal of Ghidorah the most weird portrayal of him to date!
It is, but oh well.
+SpiritOfBagheera Interesting, I did not know that. Thanks.
The 5 guardian monsters for my own gmk film
Mothra: god of the forest
Varan: god of the sky
Baragon: god of the earth
Anguirus: god of the sea
King Caesar: the guardian of Okinawa
Sounds pretty cool. Love the inclusion of King Caesar.
I have a better idea. How about
Varan: god of the sky
Manda: god of the sea
King Caesar: the guardian of Okinawa.
The three guardian beasts who team up with Godzilla and mothra to defeat his three headed nemesis king Ghidorah. And I know king Ghidorah is a good guy in gmk, but he’s mostly a bad guy you know, a villain, and antagonist.
now we know that 1998 Godzilla actually takes place in the Toho Universe
Well, in the GMK universe at least.
Agreed. I would have loved to have seen the original vision Kaneko had in mind.
I like godzilla's look I think it might be what too was looking at in the idea of Ghost Godzilla
Could be.
How would you rank the millennium saga
1. Against MG
GMK
Tokyo SOS
2000
FW
6. Megaguirus
I wanted of them to make the most evil King Ghidorah in this movie, but they done it to Godzilla instead.
King Ghidorah should be a lot bigger in here.
This movie has a great plot anyways!
I enjoy this movie a lot, but I definitely think Ghidorah should have been bigger.
I though Higuchi and Kaneko had a falling out, so Higuchi wasn't attached to this one?
King Ghidorah: the humans and monsters are supposed to help Godzilla beat a ghidorah not the other way around
Death Ghidorah: Your a disgrace to ghidorahs everywhere
Kaiser Ghidorah: this coming from a ghidorah that got his ass kicked by a moth
Hahahahahahaha...
Not just any moth a very overpowered moth
I think the most bad ass Godzilla movie in my opinion is Godzilla final wars
WHy's that?
Kaiju no Kami good point
would you ever review the godzilla creepypasta?
What's that?
Kaiju no Kami it is a well known creepypasta, internet ghost story, of a person who purchased an old copy of the NES Godzilla game, though the game turns out to be possessed and glitches with modern kaiju and new monsters, you might like it or hate it but I enjoy hearing your reviews and thought it be fun
Is this a video or just a blog?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork both depending how you search for it.
It was an original story with edited screen caps of the game to aid the story. But it also can be a video series by searching up youtube creepypasta narrators.
I feel like this movie tried to be a natural disaster with kaijus, as well as a special military that fights them, but without the science patrol stuff like in ultraman
Could be.
that would be awesome if that was the case
The cast here is awesome and honestly, it's not a terrible movie. I didnt agree with making Godzilla evil but they pulled it off. The movie had good elements but Mothra didn't look good.
I agree. I love this movie despite its negatives.
I can't say for certain, but I think the 'Digital Q' Yuri Tachibana worked for may have been a ref/homage to 'Ultra Q', the Twilight Zone-like anthology SF series that spawned the Ultra Heroes series.
That is an interesting though, never considered that one.
Do you have a Nintendo switch
Nope. I was planning to get one this summer for Metroid Prime 4, but with that being delayed now, I don't know when I'll get one.
Kaiju no Kami you should get for super smash bros ,super Mario odyssey, and Zelda breath of the wild
Kaiju no Kami I’m kinda excited for Metroid prime 4
Well I've got Breath of the Wild and I do want Mario Odyssey, but Metroid was going to be the game to really get me to get the Switch.
To me Godzilla's design is in this movie is one of my three favorites the other two being from final wars and Godzilla vs. Destroyah. the thing I love about this movie the most is by far the special effects because they are just so..... you know what I can't really think of a word to describe the special effects. In the end I give this movie and easy 8/10
zero two
Yeah, GMK is a fantastic movie, it just isn't the masterpiece I once considered it to be. Instead of being my favorite Godzilla movie (or second favorite depending how I place the original), it is more like #5. Godzilla's design is incredible though and I would love to have it in MonsterArt form.
Kaiju no Kami yeah but I have a question for you. Why did you get rid of the hat you had in your older videos.
zero two
lol
Because I left the Showa era. It'll return for older movies again like King Kong and then if I do any Film Noirs like I'm thinking about.
Kaiju no Kami oh hmm maybe after the Godzilla reviews you could do the gamera movies. I'd love to see what you think of them. while they seem to be a bit slow at times I still like them especially the ones with legion and baragon...barugon...however you say his name.
zero two
I'm going to work on Gamera movies, but I'm going to have to take the Showa films at a pace.
You do know that " Godzilla vs king Ghidorah" changed their history
What do you mean? That movie has nothing to do with this one.
This movie is really good, but there are some things that I don't quite like about it:
My favourite Godzilla film
It used to be my favorite, but it's still a great one regardless.
Then, may I ask, what's your number one Godzilla film?
Mothra vs Godzilla.
Kaiju no Kami the one made bet. 1954 and 1984?
Not sure what your question is, but if you are asking me which I think is better between those two, easily the 54 movie. The 84 doesn't even break my top 10.
7:51 I really love those girls who played as the twin fairies and what are their names in real life?
I don't remember at this point. I believe one of them is the girl from Gamera III.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork oh nice.
Just imagine they made Gamera evil.
That would be nuts!
They kind of did in Gamera III. :-)
Kaiju no Kami But imagine her beeing completely evil, and some of her enemies less evil.
Hey Kami, I did watch your other reviews up to this one, but I didn't have anything to offer, so I didn't comment. (Sorry)
Here is something though-you mentioned the comic reactions of the people running away.
Here is a link to that interview (and you can hear her roar):
ruclips.net/video/rISRifRAKyI/видео.html
So, this movie was ok.
(Even though they actually didn't fight Godzilla, just human-made robots)
I also always get a quick out of the part where the reporter yells, "Ooh!
Since you haven't responded to any of these, but you do respond to comments that I start, I thought I would let you know
May I ask you something else? How old are you? I assume you are younger than I?
Great video. Very minor nitpic: You are not pronouncing King Ghidorah's name correctly. I love the comic elements to the video!!
+Varixx of the Last Phalanx How do you pronounce Ghidorah? I go by the Katakana, which is Ge Doe Ra (GiDoRa).
I have a real soft spot for this one. This is my 3rd favourite Godzilla movie, though I've seen just a few. I have 2 hot takes on this movie
Nice Orange Lantern shirt. Comment if you saw that.
Saw what? My T-Shirt? I know I saw it because I have it. :-)
Kaiju no Kami I have a Blue Lantern shirt. I think it is in one of my videos.
Nice.
Great movie but man would have been better with Angurus and Varan
Also the Gutango/Atragon was suppose to be part of the movie, finishing off Godzilla after the guardian monsters are killed
I guess the Gotengo with its drll head would have made sense.
I always love it when Godzilla is pure evil
It depends because he's never really been pure evil, even in the original, he's just a force of nature, which is not evil.
Yeah, Ghidorah wasn't at full strength, but I don't remember how long he was supposed to sleep for exactly to be fully powered.
Tom Howell the point is Ghidorah was weaker than godzilla, in this film he is supposed to be indestructable
This Godzilla can destroy the Cloverfield monster in less than 10 seconds
Totally, but then, I think any Godzilla can destroy that thing.
I've heard Baragon 's suit actor was a woman. her name is Rie Ōta
I believe so.
Ok, guys...
Tell me which is your favorite kaiju
Mine is Destoroyah
:3
Other than Godzilla? Mothra followed by Rodan and Ghidorah.
Kaiju no Kami LOL
:)
I know, kind of funny considering which movie you are asking this in. I also love Anguirus, King Ceasar and Gigan.
Kaiju no Kami Wow, that's great!! :)
I also love Gigan and Ghidorah, too
Godzilla Himself is my favorite Monster
Barugon Appear In This Movie And His Name Is Not On The Title
Nope.
They portrayed Godzilla to be pure evil and that feels kinda odd
well if i were to label godzilla between good and evil, i would choose evil.
This version, yes. However, he isn't meant to be flat out evil, just a tragic monster.
Kaiju no Kami o ok so this one is just a bad experiment gone wrong right
Kaiju no Kami or maybe he’s still mad at Japan for killing his family
my expectations were too high for this movie i just didnt love it the gamera trilogy was amazing. i agree with other mothra and ghidorah were miscast. i dont think gojira even broke a sweat in this one. i would have liked to have seen varan take on on godzilla.

I think the pacing, music, and effects work does overshadow the negatives with this one.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Look I agree most of the negatives are pretty minor and the rest is great
I really like this movie but I don’t absolutely love it like everyone else
Nothing wrong with that.
9:20 Military space program!!!
lol
Why did he kill the girl and mothra
Yeah sometimes i just hate godzilla
You mean the girl in the hospital? Because she was just there.
son trong nguyen he is supposed to be evil in this film
I was really dissapointed by this movie. I head so much good things before and fans praising but after done watching i was not satisfyed.
It happens. There have been movies I heard nothing but praises for and when I finally saw them, I was like, "This is it?"
this Godzilla and chara should hang out since the two chose the genocide route
Chara?
From undertale
Kaiju no Kami e
I could never get into this one.
+amaxamon Why is that?
I didn't like the flipping of the monsters' good/evil alignment but also, as I remember it, this one had an intentionally goofy/camp style, too many jokes. I enjoy G-movies best when they're played straight (my favorites are the original '54 [Japanese version] '84 [Japanese version] and 2014). Maybe I'll give this one a re-try, since I'm going thru the series again.
+amaxamon Fair enough on the monster alignment, but this one wasn't campy. At least not the original Japanese version. Not sure about the dub.

Yep. I always got amusement out of that.
Bugs Bunny is their Mascot
Shinji Higuchi had nothing to do with this movie.
*****
Are you sure?
Oops, I misread my information. Higuchi was on the movie, but he only did the scene when Godzilla fought the jets. Makoto Kamiya was the director, who also worked on the Gamera trilogy.

Ghidorah would over power godzilla if he wasn't that small
+Kaiser DaShawn Most likely, but I can see why they did what they did.
Ike. But yea good review.
8:22 WTF is this?
What do you mean?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Is that Yuri's Actress in another movie?
