My theory is that the reason for Kotaro's more light-hearted behavior in this series is that it's a coping mechanism, like Spider-Man whenever he cracked jokes in the face of danger. It's not implied or apparent, but he could still have been the serious individual from the last series, but hides his insecurities under a guise to distract that he's no longer human, that his family and friends were gone, and the trauma still haunts him. It would have made sense that some time had passed since Black and Kotaro was in a slump about everything he went through. Boss, seeing this poor boy down on his luck, takes pity and takes him in despite the fact he was a complete stranger. It took some time, but Kotaro warms up to Boss and his family, considering his new family especially when the parents decide to adopt him. He meets and falls in love with Reiko, meaning his luck had finally turned around, when memories of his fight with the Gorgom remind him that he's not human. Fearing that he might lose everything he cares about like the last time, he puts on a goofball persona to distract him from those memories of dark times. Again, this is just a theory, and would have made sense if Kotaro acted in Black whenever he was alone, all the while still caring for the new friends and family he had made.
I don't mind Kotaro being more light hearted, the problem is the transition between Black and Rx as the show is meant to be in real time, so Rx starts two weeks after Black ended. That's some whiplash mood swing right there.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I won't be surprised if the studio or the network was responsible. Lots of parents might've complained how the previous show was too dark.
Well, considering what Kotaro went through in Black, I honestly think it's good that Kotaro gets to enjoy his life. Although I can see that mood whiplash as a bit of concern.
The finale does leave us with a lot of questions. The big one being the identity of Emperor Crisis. He's voiced by Goro Naya, who also voiced The Great Leader in the original series, V3, Stronger, Skyrider and the ZX TV special. You think these two characters are one in the same? Many do.
Rx is a show that has a mixed reputation among the fandom, although it has its fans for example some even like Shadowmoon's redemption before SPOILER his death as they see it as Kotaro finally freeing his childhood friend from evil even in death.
Yeah, I am not into that whole redemption thing as I feel that was one of the best tragedies about Black. Altering that ruins the point of even doing it in the first place.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork To be fair it was less about redemption for Shadow Moon and more giving Kotaro closure. I'd say a more valid criticism of his appearances hear, is that it makes no sense for him to be a match for RX. Him analysing RX's abilities isn't a good enough explanation un my opinion.
From what I read on Wikipedia and elsewhere, Kamen Rider Black RX takes place six months after the events of Kamen Rider Black rather than two weeks or five years. Admittedly, I'm honestly enjoying the series so far despite some hiccups here and there and I'm currently up to episode 34 with only 13 episodes left afterwards. I will be start watching Faiz after this series at least in terms of Kamen Rider seasons.
Sorry to say, but this review is heavily biased. - 5:29 His name is Black Sun, uses a sunstone, says he's the CHILD OF THE SUN! Yeah, seems legit. Why would that be an asspull? - Nothing feels detrimental as it should. Black fell into that category too. Plotlines would straight up be dropped or never brought up again. You know that episode in Black (Episode 35) where Gorgom Generals are attacking the city? Let's not bring up those events again or referenced in the background. Let's just put a wacky wedding episode like it’s nothing. Hey, say we don’t compare to Black, say we just focus on Black RX. So Minami's protectiveness of Joe the Haze came from a place, Joe giving himself up to the Crisis empire to protect his home tribe, Reiko feeling useless so she trains to be a competent fighter, Kyoko losing both her parents to a Crisis Mutant. All are pretty detrimental things in-universe. - “The detective is never brought up again.” Ok, fair point, the detective and chances to bring up past events are a missed opportunity. However, Black did this too! I'd say it's more of an ongoing problem from Black since plotlines get dropped in the show. The Professor who built Road Sector, disappears, the Katsumi's uncle, is gone, Ryusuke Taki is NEVER MENTIONED AGAIN! Black ATTEMPTED to be something in the initial episodes, and episode 35 “The War declaration of Love,” showed to be going somewhere. But shortly after that, it devolves into nothing but formulaic plots. 8:54 I will admit, Black RX does have some plotlines that go nowhere like Minami's childhood friend for one episode or the Crisis Rebellion. - 10:56 Minami is goofy compared to his original Yes, he does initially seem more light-hearted in here. But here's the thing, Minami has been surrounding himself with lively people like the Sahara Family and Reiko, who've all been nothing but kind to him. He does show trauma in the form of protecting Joe the Haze after losing Nobuhiko. Also, Joe is still a competent fighter and provides assistance whenever he can to Minami. You manipulated the scene showing Joe pulling lollipops, which was just a simple gag, and remove the second half where he starts kicking ass. But gets captured since it is a Kamen Rider show where the main her has to shine. "Why does this show self-destruct their own characters?" Look, I know people like Black, I consider it one of the best showa series. But Minami in the original Black, struggled to find their own character. Even in Black, he will pull through in the end. The supporting cast in Black is so weak compared to Black RX, characters like Shigeru, Joe, Reiko and even the Sahara family, all help to push Minami in some way. In the last 5-10 episodes, where Minami says goodbye to the Sahara family, the father knows he's leaving for good. The father assures Minami he'll always have a place in his family, and that he matters to them. Minami is shown to be self-sacrificing in Black RX, doing what he can to protect the Sahara family. In one episode, he is blinded and lures the Sahara kids away from him for their own safety. He cries tears of blood after believing Hitomi died. He carries on. Then you have Black, One minute he's the unbreakable barrier of justice, then the next, he's hanging out with a bunch of kids, removing the sense of urgency in the story. I can say he never does more to find Nobuhiko, besides riding his bike and playing with little kids. - Shadow Moon's Redemption So are we just going to ignore the fact Shadow Moon infused his power into the Satan Saber and gave it to Black to kill the Century King? No? Seriously, Black did the same exact thing yet you ignore or just refused to bring it up. Not to mention the fact Shadow Moon only committed the act of good because Minami bested him in combat. 22:55, Also, that's the wrong song title. It's Senjou no Rider is a completely different song. The one played here is "Dareka Kimi Wo, Aishiteru." 23:50, "It has no idea what its tone wants to be." Once again, more Bias complaints. Black struggled to balance Cotw plots and dramatic stories. To straight-up silly concepts that were distracting for the serious tone, Black was trying to go for. 24:14 "The fights aren't even well choreographed." A random line that isn’t elaborated more. The fight with General Jack, Shadow Moon and many more are the highlight of the show. You’re telling me Birth of Robo Rider is a bad fight? 24:20 Honestly, the same can be said for Black and a majority of showa series. Only a few episodes were really important for the overall plot, and they just focus on random monster-of-the-week plots for a majority of the episodes. The fact you give more crap for Rx, while not being as harsh as Black feels bias. It's more of a problem with Black, since Nobuhiko being captured gives a sense of urgency, then the next episode, he's helping coaching for a kid's soccer team, completely removing the tension. You know, I'm starting to think Nobuhiko turned into Shadow Moon out of his own free will just because Minami was getting distracted. 27:14 How so? Seriously there are just as dumb if not dumber episodes than this. Why the hell are you giving RX so much flack? Let's not forget that one episode in Jetman where a noodle mascot comes to life, Dai Rangers, a living tofu man, Kakuranger, the yellow ranger eating so much food he gets fat, or Black, where Gorgom mind control woman, by...not cleaning? There's plenty more I can go over, but I'll end things here. Again, I'm not trying to insult you, I'm just addressing the blatant mistakes in this video.
You're right, I'm definitely biased because I don't feel this show lived up to Black one bit. That's the problem with direct sequels, they're going to be compared to their predecessor. It just didn't make sense to me and Kotaro was completely out of character. If it had been some new protagonist, I would have been more open minded. Or if the show had done a time jump, but the first episode takes place two weeks after the events of Black. My mistake on the song title then. The rider wiki page said that was the title of the song. Funny enough, you mentioned my least favorite episodes of Jetman and Kakuranger, which I bring up in those series' respective reviews.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork That's fine, but it's one thing to say a show is bad for the same things, its predecessor does worst. Just personal preference. Personally, I didn't like Minami in the original Black since he had very little character and wasn't shown searching for Nobuhiko. But the review here delivers false information that spreads inaccurate information about the show because of your own bias. Honestly, I feel Minami works better here because he has more characters to bounce off of. Like Joe, Reiko, Kyoko, Shigeru, and the rest of the Sahara family.
Okay, I don't know where you are getting false information from as everything I talk about did happen in the show. What do you think is false? I also don't think the number of characters really make the show better.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I didn’t say the number of characters mattered, I’m saying is how they interacted is what gave Minami more character. I addressed your points in the comment above.
12:04 Says the guy who uses a ring from a talking dog to transform in a blue spandex-wearing superhero, that must stop Rita Repulsa and Spider-man from taking over the world.
i sat through the whole thing, wondering if you'd reference sabans masked rider, and outside of just mentioning it, THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH FOR NOT SHOWING IT!!!!
6:31, ok..I happened to be watching Chukana PaiPai and it turns out this cop guy is also a funny cop guy in that show too. Guess they were trying to do something with him too but didn't know how to execute him properly.
Understandable. Gaoranger was my first Sentai series, so I also have a place for that. Though, that doesn't mean I'll be kind to it when I review it in Dec.
Well there are those rare cases for movies like The Winter Soldier, The Empire Strikes Back, The Two Towers, Terminator 2, but usually yeah, sequels should just try to be as good as the original instead of trying to outdo them.
Kamen Rider Black is one of my favourite tokusatsu series so this was a major disappointment. That said, I do like the series but not a whole lot. I enjoy some of the monster designs but otherwise I agree with most of the points you make. Although, maybe Crisis were actually scared of some of the Metal Heroes or Sentai villains seeing as how through the power of lazy writing they all now take place in the universe.
A recap: Funny I was watching some episodes of Saban's Masked Rider. If you hated how Kotaro's character was handled to be a goofball in Black RX,Dex is nothing like Kotaro but he has his own character which is cool and there are some stand-out episodes in Masked Rider that are not bad. There's even an episode where Masked Rider's powers are losing and that the only to recover some energy was to channel the energy from Rideron and Acrobatter into Dex and King Lexion has to use his power but the downside - Rideron and Acrobatter or Magno and Combat chopper will cease to exist. There were episodes that has Dex staring face to face with Count Dregon himself. At least the villains were given some things in the adaptation. Oh and another thing,Crisis Emperor or Larvatron was given the monster of the week role and yeah,we knew Crisis Emperor/Dasmader was an idiot. Woulda been cool to see Dasmader in Saban's Masked Rider. Saban's Masked Rider doesn't take itself too seriously but what it lacks in plot,it delivers with corniness but a lot of heart as well because Dex does value family and the Stewart family has quite a number of stuff unlike the Sahara family imo. Ferbus tho...yeah. Put him back with animal control (despite ME HATING THEM. I'LL GET THEM FOR TAKING AWAY MY POPS' PET DOG WHEN HE WAS YOUNG! YOU BASTA...) If anyone loves MMPR but thinks it doesn't have plot, watch Saban's Masked Rider. It's like MMPR Season 1 but with a developed main character who gets a family in the end and at least this was a show that has an ending and a satisfying one at that. I just wished they used the scenes where Black RX shook hands with the 10 riders and riding off with Acrobatter to send off the finale 'Invasion of Leawood'. There was so much unused footage that they could have used in Black RX. Yeah,Masked Rider ended on a high note,MMPR ended on a dark note,VR Troopers ended on a cliffhanger which they should have used Juspion,Blue Swat and Winspector and Exceedraft to continue the series and Beetleborgs ended on a cliffhanger too. If you ppl think Black RX is good while my opinion on Masked Rider is shit, pls share your opinion, thumb me down...Call me a shithead if you want.
15:06 it wuold be cool having another kamen rider show that have’s aliens as is main villains and monsters (I know that there’s evol but he was just the final villain not an organization) having more creative designs
Kamen rider Black rx is so cool the rider concept everything about is amazing I love it, it has everything i wanted from a showa era kamen rider or KR in general (its a victim of bad writing) and rushing a sequel show, its nothing like making a new KR from scratch you have alot of things to consider from the previous story to make a sequel show.
I really liked the kaijin from RX. They were really varied and interesting. To me, the Black kaijin were nicely made but generic mutant animals. Not as imaginative.
Did you ever give one star (or even zero star) to a show? I have friends who enjoy Black RX because it's popular in Italy (fantranslated in Italian subtitles) but I never got into it, it was so different from Black and that doesn't feel like a second chapter of the story. I heard it gets better in the last episodes, I hope it so. Sooner or later I'll watch it from the beginning to the end but it's not something I could give a high priority.
8:14 if you think that this is a KITT car, what the heck was Black Saber in Jiraya lol. That thing was a complete KITT copy with no AI. Even the dash was KITT Style.
11:32 What I noticed about this scene was that they use the same music for the dance in episode 22 of the first Sailor Moon series. And maybe what he's saying is that it's all sufficiently advanced technology. =P
They seem to reuse the same music in a lot of shows. Zyuranger and Turboranger have nearly the exact same soundtrack (since they were done by the same composer).
that's not the only time the past riders aren't shown what they do around the world, its pretty much cuz i dont think they could film that stuff outside of japan, it happened in V3 where ichigo and nigo return, they explain that they were in America and Africa, it also happens in JAKQ vs Goranger, where its pretty much an MCU scene showing other characters
It's not really that that bothers me, it's how little they really did anything with them that does. I could have dealt with them telling and not showing if they had actually done more like had them not transformed and actually beat monsters.
Do you think the series would have been better liked had Toei stuck to their initial plan of making this a different series before it got retooled into a sequel to Black?
Thanks to Saban's Masked Rider and MMPR S3 i adore the RX suit. I really need to give KR BLACK a chance though. I just feel RX's suit is better. (Avoids rock) Well gotta run!
I'm sure you know this by now but Joe was injured during one of the attacks and he was hospitalized. Its why he was missing for several episodes but it doesn't explain his change in personality
I liked the villains kind of reminded me of gingaman's villains each villain different and the monsters put in four groups each fallowing a different theme and each one lead by one of the villains who also fallowed the same theme as the monsters they lead. I get what you mean by Kotaro's personality but that kind of happens in toku the characters hardly ever go through any long depressions or anything like when a friend or family dies they morn them that episode but act like they are fine later episodes. And I think they wanted to show he was doing ok and had got his life back on track. I liked the ideas of changing forms and how he gets his new form but I feel they could have had him get his new forms better like maybe the villains could have captured him and experiment on him. It could be the villains in this waited so long cause there were so many other groups of villains at the time and felt it would be to much competition and thought to wait till they were wiped out. also a lot of toku series give us villains we learn next to nothing of and just seem like they there for what ever they used for
I don't really have an issue with Kotaro putting his life together itself, it's the timing of it that bothers me. It's just way too quick. Though, better writing for just the show itself could have fixed several of my issues with it.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork well he has a girlfriend and the love of a good woman can do wonders for a man and it was a while after that last series and I guess with the new good in his life he let go
True reason for Shadow Moon's sacrifice? Some time between the two series he saw the future where the crappy "Masked Rider" adaptation gets made and he decided that it's better to die before living to see the mess being made.
Now that I think about it,the more this tramples on Black, the more justified Saban's Masked Rider was. Also,of course you'll love the monster that looks like Son Goku.

Well now that is interesting. Also after watching I think Ferbus was an idea that sounded in good on paper but in execution.... well..... he may have needed some work done a bit more. Also I have some interesting ideas.
Even though this show certainly looks like it has tons of faults, I can't help but still feel that I'd rather watch this, Masked Rider or OG Black than any modern Kamen Rider show after this. The only one I fully watched was the ZO movie which was OK, even if the dub was pretty funny, but a lot of the modern KR shows are super duper flashy and the riders don't even look anywhere close to how the older ones looked, which makes the show look as if it's not even trying to be in the same universe/ruleset. I'm excited that Juspion got licensed for 2019 though. Shame Spielvan is in the hands of Shout and they don't seem to be releasing it anytime soon, as I really am dying to have that on DVD/BR. Maybe they'll release both it and Metalder next year or give it to Discotek
Well I certainly hope the newer riders don't look like the older ones. I mean, as much as I enjoy the shows, except for Black, the Showa designs are pretty ugly looking. Oversized helmets, cheap looking fabrics, holes in their eyes, etc. The costumes from the likes of Blade, W, Hibiki, Agito, Ryuki, and OOO all look far superior in my book. As for Spielban, we'll just have to wait and see. The sales of Jetman could determine what their plans are for the future. Who knows, maybe Hasbro will also help out since they have a great relationship with Shout!.
@@kimchison9032 Back when I made that comment, I wasn't aware of how good Kuuga was or other early heisei shows, so I definitely wouldn't watch MR over those. MR was also way more corny and badly edited than I expected when trying to watch it. (I thought it would be like VR troopers where it's a fun thing in its own way if you look at the show from that view) so I probably would put it a tier below the Dynaman gag dub even. I still would much rather see Black/other earlier Kamen Riders get subbed though before many late Heisei stuff though. I think after 2010's series is when I'd not care for Heisei rider shows, since the designs get more and more over complicated and the show falls into the same trap as modern sentai where it's too fancy and flashy with special effects. I'm More of a modern Ultraman guy myself.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork yeah but look at shin, zo and j then kuuga to den o same thing happened to them and each time a charater here the name kamen rider some how they never very of them but they still in the same universe. Like in fourze for example he never know whats is a kamen rider until one of the charaters told him about them. Then same thing with wizard he didnt know what it was until fourze tell him what it was. Then gaim they called them self armoured rider before changing it to kamen before meeting the legendary riders. And with ryuki time they called theself kamen rider but they never know bout the one before them but only the ryuki riders only. The only one that had they own universe was build cause u have to find and add the hints to know if its in the same universe or not and build told us. Cause look at the sky wall they said it been their for ten years that like around kiva time and back then we never seen or hard bout the skywall but only the one reference from w with the border line. But yeah still love your videos tho
lol At some point I will go back to it, I just got busy and with the struggle I had just to make it to episode 12, it ended up getting knocked so far behind I'm just going to have to start the show over when I do go to review it.

Awesome review! I just finished re watching the series again! And this series is definitely my favorite tokusatsu series ever! I especially like the villains from this series. I think there the coolest villains in all of entertainment. And btw what is General Jak? He looks human, but I think he's a robot.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I think he's a robot. Because even though under the mask he has a form of a human face, he still gives off this artificial kind of vibe. Like if he's under the control of Emperor Crisis. Plus he does make those robot sounds when he moves. Also I think the Crisis Empire didn't attack earlier because they probably where waiting for Black to destroy The Gorgom. Being that they wanted to take over the Earth so there people could live in it. Plus they did invite Black to join them. So they where probably waiting on the Gorgom to fail.
I knew this Kamen Rider series looked familiar, it was used for the Americans attempt at adapted a Kamen Rider series as masked rider. Masked rider was such a disappointment 😭.
Kaiju no Kami yeah I remember that crossover it was made to be so epic, and it failed miserably. Ah yes the furby ... remember how popular those were at the time... I might still have one.
What never made sense to me initially with that crossover is why the rangers had their Thunderzords when they had just received their Ninjazords in the movie. It didn't occur to me until the real season premier that the movie was not canonical. I feel like the crossover fits better as a Season 2 finale than a Season 3 premier.
Yeah, I figure it was a late decision to forget the movie and redo the ninja power origin to include a couple of Kakuranger characters, then insert some Masked Rider cross-promotion ahead of that. I seem to recall missing a lot of the early Season 3 episodes, just walking in on the middle of an episode with Rito for the first time and thinking, "What is that, the TV version of Ivan Ooze?!"
Well of course he isn't going to die he is the only kamen rider in the series..... Kamen Riders only started to die after there was multiple kamen riders in the series
i dont think it would made sense to make the second one dark even though it did have dark plots to it because it didnt really fit with the theme since the first one was meant to be dark since black means darkness, depression, despair, to rx's plot it was all about light meaning his powers come from the sun, meaning happiness, love, positivity especially after having everything ripped from his life from the black series, it just doesnt make sense to make kotaro more depressed because that's not what life is about, life is about putting the dark past behind you and move forward with happiness. that's why the second one is different and it makes sense.
It's not that I felt the show needed to be dark, I feel like there is a lot of information missing between the two seasons. It really should have just been a different character entirely.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork do you understand how sequels work? because that's what black rx is and using a different character wont work, 1. because you have to have a character that's connected to the first season. 2. the actor is playing the character is the reason why black was popular and bring him back for the second time makes sense in this case, it wont make sense to bring in a new character not unless it's completely new rider that has nothing to do with the first season like the formula that's going on right now, new riders, new characters. black rx was a powerup from black, he wasnt a completely new rider because it was made of the same keystone that got split from beam, the sun energized the broken/split keystone that made him black rx.
Yes, but there was no rhyme or reason for his sudden personality transformation. How did he get adopted by a family and get a girlfriend in the span of 2 weeks? Depression doesn't end that quickly.
I think it could've helped if Robo Rider and Bio Rider were entirely separate characters. They could've helped Kotaro out of tricky situations rather than him solving all his problems by simply switching forms.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Other changes I would’ve made is have Kotaro slowly regain hope and optimism throughout the show and maybe let someone else gain the powers of Shadow Moon instead of bringing his brother back.
Kotaros suit in Kamen rider black Is one of my favorite suits in Kamen rider along with Z- IO due to black and purple being my favorite colors And I'm talking about the two suits That are from Kamen rider black and Z-IO
There is actually a reason the other Riders appear. See because of a parody called Kamen NoRider the entire franchise was made into a laughing stock. So then they decided to end the series again they brought in the other Riders and explained why we never saw them until now. It’s also why we didn’t see their worldwide adventures. Interestingly in the original Black the FBI agent said that he isn’t alone on his adventures. Shinta Reviews said that this potentially hints at the other Riders and others who would be willing to help him..... even though we didn’t see them in that show. It makes you wonder if they were also considering bringing the riders back for Black too. Also Shinta did say that since Black and much of RX until the endgame didn’t have any rider cameos at all.... it was well overdue. So at least there are some good things to come out of it. In that the even paid tribute to the endgame in the 2020 concert with all eleven riders appearing when the theme song for Black RX is playing. Pretty cool huh?
I think a better premise for this show would have it not being a direct sequel to Kamen Rider Black but rather taking place in a different universe where Gorgom never existed and this Kotaro becomes a Kamen Rider for the first time.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Yeah, they should have had the original Black stand on its own which was the plan anyway with RX as part of the original Riderverse. Toei could have had its cake and not have to regurgitate it so they could eat it again with different icing. Hindsight...
I also made myself a ninja themed Sentai with kanji symbols on the front of helmets on the top I made 6 rangers The rangers are Black - water Blue-Earth Yellow-wind Red- lightning Pink- fire Purple-ice I call this team Eremento Sentai shinoger
Black RX is trying to show Kotaro that hes trying to move on from what happened in Black. He doesn't forget what happened, but he tries his best to be happy.
Two weeks later seems a bit unrealistic though. If the show was set like a year or two later, then I could buy it, especially when the family acts like they have known Kotaro for quite some time.
Unless they state a specific date (like Ohranger being in 1999), it's real time. One of the news papers in one of the first few episodes shows the date.
Not really. There's only a couple of things that will mention the first series, but it isn't necessary to see it. The Shadow Moon 2 parter might be it, but if I remember right, they do a short recap on who Shadow Moon is.
“He gets his power by looking at the son. Stop being stupid!” I mean, he’s literally called Child of the Sun for a reason. Even I the orginal Black series, it’s heavily implied he’s named after the sun spots in this and the original show. He doesn’t really have any ass pulls and are mostly logical given his power set.
Speaking of Kotaro being invincible, anyone remember how in the first few episodes, outright killing him would only be temporary if he was exposed to sunlight? I like that The Sun itself modified Kotaro's King Stone and spoke to him about the importance of Earth and that Kotaro took the "Child of the Sun" seriously, but boy howdy is it lame when a hero literally can't die...Especially since The Sun stops being a character before long and its conversation with Kotaro about his nature making it impossible for him to live amongst humans goes nowhere. At times, the Jark Squad had promise, like the moments they realized their infighting was unprofessional and they became willing to stop being greedy out of respect for Jark and growing to respect each other more...but the show flip-flopped on that a lot, especially towards the end. I liked that Maribaron toyed with the idea of bringing Kotaro over to their side and Kotaro ran the idea of her leaving Crisis by her, but SPOILERS they drop that like a hot potato in the final episode. Also, why did the show consistently say that Crisis' crappy condition was the fault of the Empire's excessive practices but then the Emperor said it was all Earth's fault for spiritually sending its pollution to Crisis and the show seemingly took him at his word? The final episode of Black already talked about how humanity's excesses will destroy the planet and had the Creation King be an avatar for the inherent evil of humanity that will never truly go away, so why did RX feel the need to redo those ideas but worse?/SPOILERS It's cool that Black broke the mold by being the first Kamen Rider to get 2 seasons...but it looks like they only had enough ideas for 1 season and didn't even want to be associated with that season, given how Moon Shadow was the only thing to carry over from Black and even then, does absolutely nothing to follow up any storylines from Black (like he was too popular to keep out altogether, but they didn't watch Black and just gave him amnesia and a rival complex). I will say, however, that I thought Revolcane was cool. A Toku Stab is much rarer than a Toku Slash, the close proximity stabbing gave to enemies let them get off one last line of dialogue and the fights normally wrapped up pretty quickly once Revolcane showed up; the fights felt more dangerous when there was no room for mistakes and Revolcane being such a reliable finisher made the weapon feel like a big deal.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I could easily see that being the case. Now, what about something that IS intended to be related to Black, namely Black Sun? Have you seen that one and have any thoughts on it?
Black Sun had a lot of great ideas, especially with its political messages, that were bogged down by shoddy story telling, poor characterization, and a non-existent ending. It also relied on too much shock value with gore effects.
@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Oh, dang, that's disappointing to hear...I'm probably still gonna watch it though, since I really like Golgom as an idea and Shadow Moon kicked ass even without gore.
Dispite its flaws, I have a soft spot for this series. And if it wasn't for the... less then perfect adaptation Masked Rider I probably wouldn't be a Kamen Rider fan today. Hope Shout Factory eventually gets around to releasing Kamen Rider and Metal Heroes series. Their starting to release Pre-Zyuranger Sentai so maybe there's hope 🙂
Well Discotek just announced they have licensed Juspion, so we will have our first officially licensed Toku series coming out to BD next year. :-) As for Masked Rider, it actually made me never even want to try a Kamen Rider show until I gave Ryuki a chance.
Kaiju no Kami Wonder why they started with Juspion? I'll pick it up(Along with Voltes V!) Hope they eventually get Spielvan, I've wanted to watch that series for awhile, but sadly its not been subbed 🙁 I do wonder? Can they release Metal Heroes Series that were Adapted into VR Troopers and BeetleBorgs since Shout has the rights to those adaptations?
It would be cool to have good subtitles for all of Choujinki Metalder! I think Kamen Rider Black RX actually grabbed a bunch of ideas from that show, like the traits of his main friends, having four evil army styles, the trick car, a robotic form... plus the whole light-saber focus and space/airships of the early Metal Heroes. But the storytelling is very different in Metalder; most of the "villains" are like heroes of their own stories. Then Winspector reused a lot of Metalder's music! (And it's funny, Kamen Rider Black premiered right when Metalder moved to a Sunday morning time-slot beside it.)
It's because Juspion is the cheapest Metal Heroes license. Discotek has said that if it sells well, they will look into doing more. According to August Ragone, the shows that Saban adapted go to Shout! first unless they directly say they don't want them. Also, the reason we haven't gotten Kamen Rider in the US yet is the license costs as much as One Piece and Dragonball. Thus, someone has to make a huge risk in order to license a show from the franchise.
weird how for both black and black rx they don't write it as ブラック or ブラック アールエックス and they always write it in English text (not just on the show's logo, but on captions such as the credits and episode cards)
Kaiju no Kami like seriously compared to the tokucast review this is extremely tame and say what you want about decade (he sucks) at least he retconned rx and black to being separate continuities
To be fair, it took me a good 3 weeks after finishing up the show before I even had the chance to film my review. By then, some of my anger had subsided.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork yeah it’s got a disappointment that black RX that fans really don’t like but sometimes some people like it I always like the design of RX
Also, personal pref, I’d prefer if they kept the suit black rather than add green. Also, though there’s already an SIC of Shadow Moon’s upgraded forms, I’d have a new form that resembles RX, though I’m debating whether or not if it should stay silver or turn gold
Definetly not one of the best Showa rider seasons BUT, it does have my favourite episode. Episode 44...... Rewatching it after the ending is soul crushing.....
American shows also don't do opening themes anymore either. However, in Japan the purpose of an ending theme is to take you out of the mindset of the show , which is why ending themes tend to be either more laid back pieces of music or dancing themes to remove the energy the show entailed.
Not going to lie, Im surprised you didn't like the monsters in this season. There were a lot of unique designs that didn't exist in Kamen Rider even to this day plus it was a good mix of aliens, warriors, machines, etc.
Well I feel this, I think while Making RX, Toei Pulled an "Cliche Superhero Antics" into this, Which must be inspired from the west, where Superheroes are given So many Reboots, Sequels and Alternative Timeline Storytelling Treatment, after Completing the Issues/Books of The Main/Debuting Storyline And Exploring the Origin. Well i feel like that's what Toei wanted to do with Kamen Rider itself, making it almost like Spiderman and Superman. Well To be honest, i think RX is Good. Of course there's no Way it'll live up to its predecessor but as a Tokusatsu Serial, it did Okay. I can understand your frustration lol 😂
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork If it were a month or two, I'd understand
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I won't be surprised if the studio or the network was responsible. Lots of parents might've complained how the previous show was too dark.
Well, considering what Kotaro went through in Black, I honestly think it's good that Kotaro gets to enjoy his life. Although I can see that mood whiplash as a bit of concern.
Hurts more since he loses the parent who took him in.@@DragonStar524

Japan always tends to do this for some reason, follow up a serious and dark series with a goofy, light-hearted one. Like Z Gundam to ZZ Gundam.
The finale does leave us with a lot of questions. The big one being the identity of Emperor Crisis. He's voiced by Goro Naya, who also voiced The Great Leader in the original series, V3, Stronger, Skyrider and the ZX TV special. You think these two characters are one in the same? Many do.
Not really since they reuse the same voice actors all of the time. Though, they should have gone into Crisis and Dasmander.
Well there is some evidence to support this Great Leader theory.
2:30
At the beginning of the serie, the narrator explains that 5 years have passed since the defeat of Golgom at the hands of Black.
I'll have to look, but I don't recall him ever saying that.
No it doesn't
Well now this is interesting. It’s not mentioned so where did he get the information from. Is it from different translation.
@@disneyboy3030 mandela effect maybe?
From what I read on Wikipedia and elsewhere, Kamen Rider Black RX takes place six months after the events of Kamen Rider Black rather than two weeks or five years. Admittedly, I'm honestly enjoying the series so far despite some hiccups here and there and I'm currently up to episode 34 with only 13 episodes left afterwards. I will be start watching Faiz after this series at least in terms of Kamen Rider seasons.
Sorry to say, but this review is heavily biased.
- 5:29
His name is Black Sun, uses a sunstone, says he's the CHILD OF THE SUN!
- “The detective is never brought up again.”
Ok, fair point, the detective and chances to bring up past events are a missed opportunity.
- 10:56 Minami is goofy compared to his original
Yes, he does initially seem more light-hearted in here.
- Shadow Moon's Redemption
So are we just going to ignore the fact Shadow Moon infused his power into the Satan Saber and gave it to Black to kill the Century King? No? Seriously, Black did the same exact thing yet you ignore or just refused to bring it up. Not to mention the fact Shadow Moon only committed the act of good because Minami bested him in combat.
22:55, Also, that's the wrong song title. It's Senjou no Rider is a completely different song. The one played here is "Dareka Kimi Wo, Aishiteru."
23:50, "It has no idea what its tone wants to be." Once again, more Bias complaints.

Black RX was one of the first Kamen Rider shows I watched. It'll always have a place in my heart, despite its flaws.
Understandable. Gaoranger was my first Sentai series, so I also have a place for that. Though, that doesn't mean I'll be kind to it when I review it in Dec.
I guess this show proves the philosophy that a sequal will never beat the orginal.
Well there are those rare cases for movies like The Winter Soldier, The Empire Strikes Back, The Two Towers, Terminator 2, but usually yeah, sequels should just try to be as good as the original instead of trying to outdo them.
Kaiju no Kami Yup and unfortunately this isnt one of those rare occasions.

YOU BASTA...)
If anyone loves MMPR but thinks it doesn't have plot, watch Saban's Masked Rider.

What is your favorite episode?
I really liked the kaijin from RX. They were really varied and interesting. To me, the Black kaijin were nicely made but generic mutant animals. Not as imaginative.
They might have just been regular animals, but their designs were absolutely stunning and are still some of the best looking KR monsters to this day.
Oh yeah, I have given a couple 1 stars, but 1 is as low as I go.

that's not the only time the past riders aren't shown what they do around the world, its pretty much cuz i dont think they could film that stuff outside of japan, it happened in V3 where ichigo and nigo return, they explain that they were in America and Africa, it also happens in JAKQ vs Goranger, where its pretty much an MCU scene showing other characters
Definitely. I feel like making it a sequel to Black is what ultimately harmed it.

It's acceptable. 😛

I'm sorry, but you said you'd rather watch Masked Rider than any Heisei masterpiece out there? Whut?
Maybe one of the monsters Is a body snatcher and captured Kotaru and Joe and replaced them with comedic husk of their former selves

Whem they said black was in another universe
Huh?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork i mean when or how u think it was another dimension
Well originally it was set in its own universe hence why no other Kamen Riders show up nor are mentioned at all.
Obviously that changed with Rx.
Why that gold masked general seems similar to a villain in GI Joe??? Or my memories are wrong
Are you think of Destro?
Yeah that guy
Damn, now I wish I had made a joke about that in the review. lol
Oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Awesome review! I just finished re watching the series again! And this series is definitely my favorite tokusatsu series ever! I especially like the villains from this series. I think there the coolest villains in all of entertainment. And btw what is General Jak? He looks human, but I think he's a robot.
No idea on what exactly Jak is. He could be a robot, or he could just be a demon wearing a mask.
I only remember the furby from that show and what was done in the Power Rangers crossover.
At least it isn't Masked Rider.
lol
Did you ever watch the Shinta Reviews of this show that actually goes deeper into things I sent you.
I did not. I couldn't even make it through Shinta's full review of Blade.
The tea party psychopomp
:-D Are you a Tea Party fan?
It is explained that Rideron does have technology that came travel between dimensions latter on in the series.
Eh.
So basically what Rx was to Kamen Rider Black is what ZZ Gundam was to Zeta Gundam.
Only thing's missing is the Aztec Space Ninjas.
And good writing. :-)

Well of course he isn't going to die he is the only kamen rider in the series..... Kamen Riders only started to die after there was multiple kamen riders in the series
Yes, but there's a difference between winning and being able to get out of every situation through convenience sake.
I need more skeleton warriors with scythes and theme song now.
lmao
i dont think it would made sense to make the second one dark even though it did have dark plots to it because it didnt really fit with the theme since the first one was meant to be dark since black means darkness, depression, despair, to rx's plot it was all about light meaning his powers come from the sun, meaning happiness, love, positivity especially after having everything ripped from his life from the black series, it just doesnt make sense to make kotaro more depressed because that's not what life is about, life is about putting the dark past behind you and move forward with happiness. that's why the second one is different and it makes sense.
It's not that I felt the show needed to be dark, I feel like there is a lot of information missing between the two seasons. It really should have just been a different character entirely.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork do you understand how sequels work? because that's what black rx is and using a different character wont work,
1. because you have to have a character that's connected to the first season.
2. the actor is playing the character is the reason why black was popular and bring him back for the second time makes sense in this case, it wont make sense to bring in a new character not unless it's completely new rider that has nothing to do with the first season like the formula that's going on right now, new riders, new characters.
black rx was a powerup from black, he wasnt a completely new rider because it was made of the same keystone that got split from beam, the sun energized the broken/split keystone that made him black rx.
Yes, but there was no rhyme or reason for his sudden personality transformation. How did he get adopted by a family and get a girlfriend in the span of 2 weeks? Depression doesn't end that quickly.
Shinta did come up with a Theory for it. Want to hear it.
I think it could've helped if Robo Rider and Bio Rider were entirely separate characters. They could've helped Kotaro out of tricky situations rather than him solving all his problems by simply switching forms.
Definitely.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Other changes I would’ve made is have Kotaro slowly regain hope and optimism throughout the show and maybe let someone else gain the powers of Shadow Moon instead of bringing his brother back.
Kotaros suit in Kamen rider black
Is one of my favorite suits in Kamen rider
along with Z- IO due to black and purple being my favorite colors
And I'm talking about the two suits
That are from Kamen rider black and Z-IO
I definitely love the design for Black as well. Zi-O, not so much.
Yeah, it's cool, I just prefer Black being on his own because it meant he was more badass.
Are those Ryuki shf in the right corner?
Yep.
I think a better premise for this show would have it not being a direct sequel to Kamen Rider Black but rather taking place in a different universe where Gorgom never existed and this Kotaro becomes a Kamen Rider for the first time.
That could have worked too to signify it's not the same Kotaro.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Yeah, they should have had the original Black stand on its own which was the plan anyway with RX as part of the original Riderverse. Toei could have had its cake and not have to regurgitate it so they could eat it again with different icing. Hindsight...
I never thought RX was mediocre. Thx for clearing that out.
What's your favorite episode?
I also made myself a ninja themed Sentai with kanji symbols on the front of helmets on the top
I made 6 rangers
The rangers are
Black - water
Blue-Earth
Yellow-wind
Red- lightning
Pink- fire
Purple-ice
I call this team
Eremento Sentai shinoger
Cool.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork did they ever state in show how long it had been since the events of black? I don't remember.
Unless they state a specific date (like Ohranger being in 1999), it's real time. One of the news papers in one of the first few episodes shows the date.
The team up crossover episode is my favourite
Is it due to the other riders showing up?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork yes but you have a point they Don't add anything
15:23 how is Gorgom the bigger threat than crisis?
Well since Crisis said Gorgom was keeping them from invading the planet, it means that Gorgom was more powerful.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork what episode of black rx was that where crisis said that?
I don't remember at this point. Sorry.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork am I required to watch black to understand black rx?
Not really. There's only a couple of things that will mention the first series, but it isn't necessary to see it. The Shadow Moon 2 parter might be it, but if I remember right, they do a short recap on who Shadow Moon is.
“He gets his power by looking at the son. Stop being stupid!”
I mean, he’s literally called Child of the Sun for a reason.
Even I the orginal Black series, it’s heavily implied he’s named after the sun spots in this and the original show.
He doesn’t really have any ass pulls and are mostly logical given his power set.
?
The final episode of Black already talked about how humanity's excesses will destroy the planet and had the Creation King be an avatar for the inherent evil of humanity that will never truly go away, so why did RX feel the need to redo those ideas but worse?/SPOILERS
It's cool that Black broke the mold by being the first Kamen Rider to get 2 seasons...but it looks like they only had enough ideas for 1 season and didn't even want to be associated with that season, given how Moon Shadow was the only thing to carry over from Black and even then, does absolutely nothing to follow up any storylines from Black (like he was too popular to keep out altogether, but they didn't watch Black and just gave him amnesia and a rival complex).
I think it has more to do with Rx originally planned to be its own thing and then getting changed into a sequel to Black.
Isnt this the season where Kotaro meets a family only for them all to die horribly?
Yep.
As for Masked Rider, it actually made me never even want to try a Kamen Rider show until I gave Ryuki a chance.
Kaiju no Kami Wonder why they started with Juspion? I'll pick it up(Along with Voltes V!) Hope they eventually get Spielvan, I've wanted to watch that series for awhile, but sadly its not been subbed 🙁
I do wonder?
Richard Schneider, if you're dying to see Spielban right now, look up Metallic Fansubs. They've gotten through half the series in just the last month!
Well I mean you could've said son wukong but I guess people would have a better picture if you said son Goku
:-)

Regardless of Super Sentai, Kamen Rider or Metal Heroes I will never understand the purpose of a ending theme.
Why's that?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Ig because its something not done with American TV shows, which I have a lot more of lol
American shows also don't do opening themes anymore either. However, in Japan the purpose of an ending theme is to take you out of the mindset of the show , which is why ending themes tend to be either more laid back pieces of music or dancing themes to remove the energy the show entailed.

Well i feel like that's what Toei wanted to do with Kamen Rider itself, making it almost like Spiderman and Superman. Well To be honest, i think RX is Good.
