The lady with her own roar in the suit made my day
Remind me of a cat, meow lol
The actress!!
BUT MY SEROTONIN!!!!!
@8:58 because i need to click it
Literally, it blessed my heart
Rie Ota
9:00 she sounds like she is having so much fun.
"raaaah" "raaah" Awww shes sooo kewt with her Baragon"s roar! Lmao!
NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG MY HEART
The kaiju waifu era HAS COME AT LAST.
Simp
Like Baragon wasnt cute enough...those roars from Rie made it even more cute!😍
My niece saw a pic of Baragon and said, "Aww, he looks like a cute puppy!"
@@stevewhatshesaid1258 That's also what a lady said in the 1960s movie where Baragon fought Frankenstein's monster! XD
@@stevewhatshesaid1258 Wait 'til his ears go up!
Rie Ota's roar is one of the most precious things I've ever seen

I might get a tattoo of this quote
9:00 thats precious
Indeed so
You know. Despite the film itself being dark as fuck there are some really heart warming aspects behind the scenes. Rie’s roars in the Baragon suit are adorable and Fuyuki Shinada’s genuine sadness in Varan being scrapped from the film are both things from this franchise I will never forget.
That Baragon Roar was soooo cuuuteeeee (* 3 *)!!
And yeah, this movie has to be on my top 3... it's so unique that i cant help but to remember it.
Rie Ota’s roar just made Baragon even cuter, thanks for sharing that!
9:17 as cute as the roar was, I'm just as delighted when seeing Ota literally waddle around the set with the suit on
“Kaiju Waifu” that shit had me in tears
that footage of rie ota roawing is just perfect
Just amazing
So adorable.
I think I’m in love, she’s too cute😂
At first I was sceptical as to why everyone considers GMK to be one of the best Godzilla movies, but after seeing it myself awhile back, I can wholeheartedly agree!
9:00 - the sound of childhood dreams coming true. No joke. This honestly sounds like what I would expect an adult who has dreamed of performing in a kaiju suit since childhood to sound like.
I'm sure this is my favorite Millennium entry as well, but I do wish they had stuck to their guns and used Varan and Anguirus instead of Mothra and King Ghidorah. One, Varan and Anguirus don't get enough love. Two, I'm kinda sick of Mothra and Ghidorah, tbh.
I agree , I like the designs they had planned for them too
Agreed
Agreed
@@BigActionBill yeah, mothra and Ghidorah are good, but DAMN are they overused
Varan has literally been in only ONE MOVIE, Destroy All Monsters doesn’t count, that was barely a cameo.
Omg she somehow made baragon MORE cute
I think the director for GvK kinda redeemed himself. It was fantastic!
GMK is best godzilla movies in the Millennium series.
Yes also final
Yes
agreed
Final is the best
Honestly I think all of the millennium movies are amazing
These videos are a real treat for lifelong Godzilla fans. There’s nothing that can match their quality on RUclips
2:19 I just watched Godzilla vs Kong and I'm happy to say he redeemed himself big time lol.
8:56
Adding in the audio of her ACTUAL roar was GOLD.
THANK YOU! hahahahahaha
I always interpreted this Godzilla as more of a vengeful revenant. The original brought back and driven by the vengeful spirits of the Pacific.
Anyway, love this series and its great to see it continue and learn more about the production history behind all these movies. Looking forward to the next one.
Well, since this movie was about the supernatural, there's no reason it couldn't have been the original reincarnated.
Growing up watching this I loved it but I always thought Godzilla was the good guy still in that movie as a kid because I couldn’t see king ghidorah being a good guy. I remember Godzilla being more purposefully destructive than usual but I just thought he was pissed he had to fight 3 monsters lol.
@@varanid9😅y😅gy try. F
I love how King Ghidorah in this movie is a good guy
I also love how he is technically Toho's Orochi AND King Ghidorah combined in the sense that King Ghidorah is the Yamata-No-Orochi but not at full power.
Basically he a baby and if he could frick up Godzilla at this stage imagine a full power version
I really love the origin and look of this Godzilla. Now,I'm not sure how it is now,but I've often heard that Japan has had trouble admitting their past crimes from World War 2. So,to address this right off the bat by having Godzilla be the manifestation of all those killed by Japan was a brave choice. It's something that I wish the 1998 version did(having America's past sin come back to haunt them). Oh,and Chiharu Niiyama is gorgeous! She's right up there with Satomi Isihara(from Shin Godzilla)as my 2 crushes from the series.
it isnt so much refusing to admit but them saying a lot of the crimes, which they did do, were made much larger post wwii such as the mass rape in china, according to them, didnt have as many victims as claimed, and stating they did execute many of those there that made it back, if they didnt die in battle. theres a lot of mud slinging between them to the point its hard to say who is telling the truth, or if even either of them are.
@@damienmitchell3104if I'm not wrong japan and china have always had a grudge with each other, am I correct?
2:40 - Thank you for leaving in the small credit to the original artist there because, well, I'M THE ORIGINAL ARTIST! Also, I just discovered your videos today and they're a great mix between the educational and the humorous. I plan to share some of these on my Facebook page in the near future. Please keep up the wonderful work.
Thank you! And Thank you for drawing that because I could not think of anything to put there while talking about that part 😂
Thank you for being an original artist and working on a Godzilla movie. We, the fans, appreciate you!!

I had seen the movie before, but watching it in a theater at G-Fest 2019 (with an appearance from the director at the screening!) was such a fun experience.
When was this?
@@InTheEnd75 g fest 2019...
To say I'm Jealous would be an understatement XD, but i'm so happy for you!
13:18 Her death was always a bit undiserved and sad for me, because earlier she said that she felt sorry for the death of the original Godzilla.
That's probably part of the point, and imo really helps drive home that this Godzilla is vengeance incarnate.
I felt sorry too!
I’m glad to see that everyone in this comment section agrees that Rie Ota letting out those roars on-set is the most adorable thing in existence.
Wingard killed it with Godzilla vs Kong. I absolutely loved it.
I love this one, but I kinda wish they stuck with varan and anguirus
Same. King Ghidorah being a good guy just rubs me as wrong lol.
@@rufussamsquanch_6547 same it's like turning joker into a good guy and batman into a villain
What about mothra king ghidorah varan baragon and angurius
@@redbon8918 it wouldn't make sense
Agreed man, it would've been the most epic battle of all Godzilla films
the Ultraman Max episode directed by Kaneko had cameos of the heisei gamera and gmk godzilla as action figures
uhh that's amazing
The director of Netflix Death note is the same director working on Godzilla Vs Kong.
Me hearing this for the first time: Spits out water, HE’S WHOT?!
SAME LOL!!
One of his movies has a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. So I'd say the film is in good hands
Hey! It worked out!
I was really excited for this film, it sounds so cool. Instead of being a metaphor of the bomb BigG is the pain of the wounded from the bomb, the mysticism and music are outstanding. It is such a cool concept.
But upon watching it was just a bit eh, and that’s when I realized most Godzilla films are low B high C ranked anyway. And I still love them.
The fact that the composer for Shadow of the Colossus was also the composer for this movie blows my mind yet also makes so much sense as I spent almost 300 hours playing that game.
Also this was my first ever Godzilla movie. They happen to catch it airing on tv way back when and knew I would love it. This kickstarted my lifelong obsession with Godzilla.
6:23 love that fade in joke
I know right
love little details
I like the idea of Godzilla being a “good guy”, but having Godzilla return to its dark roots is a smart and enjoyable move considering the original movie had a grim tone.
The absent pupils were a fantastic choice, cant change my mind
Any actor who doesnt make sound effect/ roars while in costume dont love their jobs.
reminds me of how a lot of the star wars actors would make lightsaber noises burring fights lol

When you look at GMK Godzilla's spines, they are exactly the same shape as the 54 Godzilla
I never realized the spines moved
Some godzillas move more than others
man Rie Ota made my day with her little roars
The Baragon actress, Miss Rie Ota, doing the roars is the most wholesome thing ever
This movie’s one of my favorite entries! Feels like a live action Anime!
When I was a kid, this has been my favorite Gojira suit. Always saw it the most intimidating appearance and fitting for a giant monster that would traumatize survivors of their destroyed home.
i know. he is one of the strongest there is.
I was also glad that the dog survived.
I always thought that GMK Godzilla is the first one, in a sense, as the spirits used its essence to form their collective body to use to take vengeance against Japan. It is partially the first Godzilla augmented by the rage and hatred of thousands of pained souls.
Ohh we getting closer to Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla. Let’s get ready for Kyriu
Had GMK gotten a sequel, who knows where it go from there.
Probably wishing for too much but perhaps they could've gone with the GMK version of Godzilla fighting Gamera at some point.
I didn't know much about Kaneko's filmography outside of the Gamera trilogy and GMK. Guess I should have looked deeper
One of the best Godzilla movies of any era
Yes, Ladies DO love Godzilla!!
GMK is one of my favorite Godzilla movies. It's so good.
And honestly this Godzilla is my favorite look. I like the references to the original, the dragonlike look, and the Dinosaur parts. It's a great combination.
This movie also makes me headcanon Baragon as female.
To the best of my knowledge, the Godzilla in GMK is the same Godzilla as the 1954 one. However, the restless spirits of those killed by the Japanese in WWII reanimated the corpse of the original.
So basically an deadite?
@@MrSleepy677 groovie
What really is cool about this Godzilla is that the animatronic head is very expressive to the point that it looks like CGI but it's not. Every time Godzilla blinks his eyes and bares his teeth at the screen that's actually the puppet. There is a commentary on RUclips called "the making of Godzilla (2001)" that goes into detail on how they made the suit and the technicality that goes behind it so I recommend it if any one wants to see how a monster is made.
Baragon is acted by a female suit actor...
So does that mean GMK Baragon is a waifu?
Hell yeah it does
God dangit...
Anguirus is such a underrated monster...
and varen
даааа
I like to think GMK Godzilla is the same one from the first movie. It makes sense for the vengeful souls to possess and reanimate the remains rather than make something out of nothing.
That would have been awesome. The souls using the original Godzilla as a husk
@@BigActionBill Really it makes the most sense if we think about the radiation and other abilities being present.
It was always my headcannon as well.
But then, why would the Godzilla be 60meters tall? The original was 50,plus this Godzilla has no ears.
Why are you replying to a comment that's a year old?
That's maidenless behavior.
Man, I remember watching the premier of this on Sci-Fi. If I remember right, they played a marathon of all the prior Godzilla movies leading up to this one.
The best Millennial movie bar none, even the music was fantastic.
Directed by the director of the Gamera trilogy? This explains so much. I could never put my finger on what GMK reminded me of.
I still think this film would have been better had they used Anguirus and Varan instead of Ghidorah and Mothra.
same
That roar, ❤😁😃✌🏼 so cute
I loved the idea of bringing back Baragon.
7:32 Holy shit, that's music from Persona 5. I can't believe I missed that when this uploaded.
I heard somewhere that the godzilla in this movie is the original, but he was revived and possessed by the vengeful spirits. Someone else in the comments mentioned that he's like a revenant, which is pretty much it. Its just not godzillas original soul. So its a mix of the fantasy/supernatural, and the atomic origins
I love Ko Otani's score. His work on Gamera is great. but I will always love his music for Gundam the most.
16:22 I always describe this scene as "It's like watching the main villain kick around a puppy"
I think this is one of the best Godzilla films for it really works as a sequel to the first movie as far as themes and ideas go. Of course this movie's more spiritual approach would be quite jarring if it wasn't for the multitude of Godzilla films before it desensitizing audiences to the spiritual side of Godzilla. But back to why it's such a great sequel, the original Gojira was about the pain and suffering inflicted onto Japan in World War 2, while this movie takes a risk to remind audiences that Japan wasn't just a victim. It was a perpetrator as well. For Japan inflicted unimaginable amounts of pain and tragedy throughout Asia and on Americans as well throughout the second World War. Godzilla is sometimes needed as a stark reminder to Japan, and the world. That he can be the hero, but turn at any moment. Also this is the first and only Godzilla film that I know of where Ghidorah is portrayed as a good monster, and on the right side of the battle. Further flipping the average Godzilla formula on it's head, this movie is basically The Empire Strikes Back of Godzilla. Showing us that every country involved in World War Two was a victim and a perpetrator.
8:58 These are the most adorable roars I have ever heard. Holy crap it's so cute
The soundtrack to this movie is so metal xD You have to see it in a theater with the sound turned a little too high ^^ The opening credits will blow your socks off.
this is my favorite Godzilla design! Probably those evil eyes!
Fun fact: Ken Watanabe's wife played one of the JSDF officers in this movie
8:47 PROTECT HER AT ALL COSTS!!! Seriously I would love to have just a clip of her roaring in the monster suit
Awesome dive into my second favorite Godzilla film man! Some of the info was new to me as well since you do such fantastic work at unpacking the history behind the films. I definitely would have preferred to see Varan, Agurius and Atragon again but I think Keneko did well with what he was allowed to do, wish Toho would have given him more film opportunities. Keep up the fantastic work man!
The Admiral reminds me of Kenji Sahara from Space Amoeba.
Especially when he wears sunglasses.
The only true movie that deserved to be a single continuity.
Gmk is my favorite one, this film made me scared as a kid. Godzilla, had no pupils on his eyes that creeped me out a lot.
I really think they missed a great opportunity here to have lesser known and even less powerful monsters be the ones to take down Godzilla. Baragon, Varan And Anguaris would have been excellent choices.
The actress playing Yuri also has a major role in the horror film Ju-on: The Grudge 2 as an actress playing a reporter, which was released around the same time as this!
Such a shame this design and style only got this one movie. It was all so unique
GMK was my favorite film of the millennium Godzilla movies. I also think it’s amazing that Shesuke Kaneko directed a film for both Godzilla and Gamera. By the way, the Gamera trilogy he directed was how I discovered Gamera.
You know, if you think about it, this is technically Ghost Godzilla’s first official movie appearance
Adam Wingard has WAY better films than Death Note under his belt. You're Next and The Guest are fantastic horror films, I definitely recommend them!
9:00 PROTECT HER AT ALL COSTS
Kaneko should've had creative freedom to give us the original vision of the film.
@ “us” as in “us the fans” not the “United states”
Aww Baragons roar so cuute 😍
I have been a Godzilla fan since birth, and as much as I love all the original suits, I am starting to feel that GMK best represents how I feel about/see Godzilla. As a little kid, I didn't care at all that one film Godzilla would be the harbinger of death and destruction, and then in another, the world's savior (with just a pinch of that "anti-hero" swagger). Even as Gamera became the "defender of all children" or whatever, you could tell that Too wanted to go in the direction of their rival. I liked that idea, too.
Hell.....I just wanted to see Godzilla no matter what. I could care less as to what his purpose was. He was my Superman next to Bruce Lee.
In GMK it just seems like he is the meanest sumbitch ever, and I dig that.
I’m absolutely loving this series, and I can’t wait to see what you cover next. It’s pretty cool that there’s so much history behind each movie that each of these short documentaries don’t end up retreading the same ground or covering the same stories.
The Music really makes this Film even better, that Theme has such a sense of foreboding in it.
My #2 all-time favorite Godzilla film. It's also has a place in my heart for being the first Godzilla film released in my lifetime.
I LOVE every aspect of it. While a sequel would’ve been cool to see, I also see this film as special because it's like "lighting in the bottle."
Though I would be happy to see Kaneko return to do another Godzilla film.
I honestly loved this movie, first off how Godzilla was back to his og roots. A pure evil monster with no mercy. And his design was scary af!!! Those white soulless eyes scared me when I was a child.
I'll never forget the first time I watched GMK. I was in awe the entire time. GMK is fantastic, the best of the Millennium era.
This is my favorite of your videos yet. (Yes, I'm binging the series.) I love this film and you have great info on it. And Rie Ota rocking the Barugon roar is gold.
Awesomely informative video! GMK is easily my favorite Godzilla film, and the added context throughout provides so much more enjoyment!
I was a bigger fan of Godzilla than Gamera at the time but yeah, Kaneko's Gamera trilogy is some of the best Kaiju films I've seen. And I really enjoyed GMK more than Final Wars.
as if i couldnt love this movie any more her baragon roar was so fucking cute
I think after a lot of heart felt deliberation, GMK is my favorite Godzilla movie. The original will always be fantastic, but if we are not counting it, GMK definitely holds a special place in my heart as one of the earliest and most nostalgic movies I saw, but also just my favorite overall.
Bill, just wanna tell you: This is outstanding content. Thank you so much!
the behind-the-scenes footage of Rie Ota are the best part of this video and the best part of the actual movie. that made my day. so friggin adorable.
