Kaiju no Kami Reviews - Gosei Sentai Dairanger (1993) Series and DVD YouTube Edition

- Due to a copyright claim with Saban, I have had to make a slight change to this review in this special RUclips edition.
After the success of Zyuranger, Toei retained Noboru Sugimura as their head writer for the next Sentai series, which was based on Chinese mythology. In this series, titled Gosei Sentai Dairanger, our heroes use various forms of Kung Fu to battle an evil race of bondage loving beings known as the Gorma. How does this series stack compared to Zyuranger? Watch to find out.

Kazu drunken style is a tough style to perform in the martial art world so I understand and respect for any ranger to use it
Agreed. That's probably why it also has only been used 4 times in the franchise's history (Dairanger only counts as one :-) )
_(Retsu did it better)_
R.I.P Daigo
Not using all these suits with Tommy's was Saban's biggest blunder ever, they're awesome.
They are, but I do understand Saban's reasoning behind it, especially since at that time, I still hadn't acquired any of the ranger toys beyong green and red.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork You Know I Had The Thought That If Saban Had Got BioMan's Adaption Made & Did The Same Thing On Are Time Keeping The BioMan Suits For Multi Season It Wouldn't Have Been As Jarring Since All The Mechs Then Where Vehicles & Not As Strong Theme As Later Seasons
R.I.P daigo actor and houou ranger’s uncle
Yes both of them died so sad 😭 but yeah it just how it is [Gosh Dang!!!!]
Although the suits were never used during Mighty Morphin, Saban did reportedly plan to use them for a team of "Ancient Rangers" during Power Rangers Lost Galaxy. However, those plans got derailed due to the Pink Ranger having to leave due to her battle with leukemia (fortunately, she survived). The only thing from those plans that seems to have made it into the final product was the morpher from the series, which was used for the team's Sixth Ranger (whose Sentai Counterpart used his sword to transform).
I forgot who it was, but someone from the production team more recently said the Dairanger suits were never in consideration.
I love this series. I do love how the focus episodes usually tied in with other arcs being played out in the series. Although there were a lot of things about the series that confused me. Like the fact that Kou's mother isnt even given a name despite being a prominently recurring character. Also, certain revelations that were made just seemed to make certain other things utterly pointless or meaningless or just contradictory.
I'm actually on my 18th rewatch of this series right now and it still doesn't bore me. I think the revelations work with the context of the story as it shows that no matter what, there will always be balance, like a yinyang.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork good point. I was originally uncertain about the show when i first tried to watch it. Then i watched it again with my wife and we loved it. It was soooooo much fun. Our favorite episode(s) was this one story that i think was a two parter, i could be wrong, involving this bad ass gunslinger birdcage monster with a wooden leg wanting to be reunited with his actual leg cuz it was the source of his power.
Yep, that is my favorite episode too. In fact, that is the episode I watch almost yearly.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork nice!
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork How? How will there always be balance? Is Shadam making more clay people to sire more Dai _(cause, you know, that made sense)_ ? Did Daijinryuu come back and force people to commit suicide for one episode inexplicably? What form of child abuse padding will we enjoy today? Is the same scene of Kou getting burned his mother with the Tiger emblem Iron for the seventh to eighth time, or is Akomaru getting slapped around by his father while he tries to honey-trap his brother and gag up his mom for years on end _(who never seemed to recognize him)_ ?
I love this series to death. This show has great characters, a Great mech, and great fight choreography! The most important thing is it expresses the idea that there is a balance between the Light and Dark(or Yin and Yang). Although people do not like the end, I still like it. It points out the whole theme of the series !
Totally agree with everything. To me, it's the greatest Toku ever made.
Daigo has the main character complex, he has so many relevant scenes and the love story with Kujaku. I'm having fun watching Dairanger (I'm almost done). Sometimes it gets so dark! I agree with the review, one of the best Yellow Ranger. It's back when the main actors were amazing fighters! Epic Godzilla theme in the review. :) Master Kaku is one of my favorite characters of all time. I was disappointed by the bad acting of Kou's mother, she was great in Jetman. Great music but I continue to hear the Imperial theme from Star Wars. I admit I loved the soccer episode because it's my favorite sport, it's on time because World Cup 1994 was very popular in the '90s even in Japan (a lot of soccer anime/manga), they even used the Olé Olé Olé music. Great review, adiòs amigo!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Dairanger is just one of those shows I can always watch, even the soccer one. I'm just not a sports person, so those will often tend to be some of my least favorite episodes from a show, but in the long run, even the Dairanger ones are not bad.
Where are you currently in the series?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I'm going to watch Episodes 43-44 today. I usually watch two episodes of a Super Sentai and two episodes of Kamen Rider (now I'm watching Kiva) every day.
Every Dai Ranger member have their own complex story except for Kazu and Lin. He just need to save Kameo that's it, Lin I think she's only take care of Kou While Ryou have a traitor father and his battle with Jin is really badass, Shouji and the three stooges, Kou story is the most complex one; his mother seal his evil power, he didn't know that he has a brother; Akomaru which is son of Shadam. Daigo just like you said a love story with Kujaku.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I'm in battle fever j now, episode 30. I already watch the entire episode of Gao Ranger, Mega Ranger, and Dai Ranger. Plus Hikounin Sentai Akibaranger.
Would you ever be interested in collecting the tempo rairai orbs?
If I had the money, yeah I would.
I think Tempo Rairai orbs are beta version of Gao Jewels.
4:54 that choir is scarier than kayako from the grudge.
lol
I'm just sad they dropped the "motorcycle to the face" entry that they had going for a few episodes.
There can never be too much motorcycle to the face.
lol
That akibaranger season 2 diaranger eps was really good.
Hell yeah it was.
This is the second time I've seen Saban copyrighted video the first one being the part 2 episode of henshin time buy toy bounty hunters even know this video and henshin time both fall under fair use
They also copyrighted another dude's video just for having a Go-Busters screen shot on his video when he was talking about Beast Morphers.
Kaiju no Kami it doesn't make sense to me that Henshin part 2 video has been up for 2 years why only now tried to claim copyright
I think they just wanted some last minute revenue while they still owned the rights. My ad revenue took a $25 drop.
Kibaranger was such an annoying kid ranger, Koguma Sky Blue was way better than him.
I'm going to disagree there. Kibaranger was written like a child. Koguma was way too smart for his own good.
Kou and Kotaro Sakuma > Justin Stewart
This is why casting a kid as a Power Ranger, is a big mistake.
Dairanger does a ton of things well.
Great opening theme, amazing martial arts, and a bad guy in white-face with a squeaky voice.
The tone was more or less consistent, sticking mostly with the more serious side of Sentai. A good balance with the silly moments here and there.
The gradual additions to their arsenal match the great pacing of the main story arc, which gives each ranger a chance to shine.
Shadam, Gara and Zydos are all very intimidating and credible villains.
The various plot twists, particularly Master Kaku's past and intentions, are masterstrokes of writing.
Overall, Dairanger more than earns the "Dai" (Japanese for "Great" for those unfamiliar with the language) in its title, unlike Dai Sentai GoGoFive.
I wouldn't say Dairanger is my favourite Sentai, but it's earned a spot in my top 5.
Also I want to take Tommy Oliver's early White Ranger dialogue and put it over some of Kou's early Kiba Ranger mischief.
Glad to see another lover of Dairanger. The Tommy bit sounds funny.
I kinda wish they kept shadam/mondo around as a general for season 2 of power rangers.
It could have been interesting, but since they used the onlyl footage of him with his metal skin, I get why they didn't do more.
Villain: DIE RANGERS!
Ryo: We know what we are, there's no need to yell it out.
Ha.
was one of the best series tho I wonder why the monsters of the week were based on objects. also was interesting to have so many human like villains. speaking of which I keep wondering what the monsters were, were they humans who gained monster forms or something. I wish they got a few more cool weapons like kiba ranger but I guess the budget did not allow it. that aside the show was great
My guess is that they were all humans with special abilities that allowed them to transform into spiritual objects.
ok cool guess that makes seance wish they covered that in the show
also you hear about the up coming sentai series I herd its knight theme
Yeah, but like every recent show, it will probably have a cool theme that is then ruined by piss poor writing.
yeah tho part of me kind of wants to see a insect theme series tho knights was one of those themes I had thought they might try
Ah Dairanger such a great show but the final episode was a disappointment since the characters are now old people sighs and also i'm not a fan of subs being yellow not sure on why shout use the color yellow for there subs but at least they change it in later releases so that's something
Well yellow subs are the standard, so that is why they went with them. I actually don't like white subs because they blend into the background too much.
I don't see what is wrong with the Dairangers being old at the end though. It was 50 years later.
There's nothing wrong with the finale it just felt dull to me
A sentai titled five star squadron was rated five star? Is that a coincidence?
lol Nope. I still have yet to see a Sentai series I like more than Dairanger.
It was awesome to see some familiar faces from both jetman and zyuranger. Just started watching dairanger. I enjoy it quite a bit. I don't think I would like it as a child for some reason. As an adult I love it.
I'm sure I would have loved it as both, but I would expect a lot of the themes would have gone over my head initially.
7:50 Yeah casts for sentai nowadays is vastly different than in the past
Yep.
By far one of my most favorite sentia series. Sorry to hear about the copy right strikes. Every thing should be fair use and what the heck your promoting their products. Keep these videos coming.
Thanks. It's stupid.
i take this better then 2nd of mmpr with more plot darker
Oh hell yeah. Dairanger is the greatest Toku series ever made.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Yes and the final battle between Ryou and Shadam is the best fight in sentai series I think.

Can you look at all of the Godzilla Cartoon Shows?
So let me get this straight, Tenma essentially = Chinese Pegasus.
Essentially, yes.
Dairanger is the best. I agree.
Do you have a favorite episode?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Yes! I love the final fight between Jin and Ryo!
That is such a great fight. All of them were.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Oh God, yeah, and the acting in Dairanger was SO GOOD!!!
Currently watching this show on tubi and I'm getting some Kung fu panda vibes with dairanger.
lol Just wait until you watch Gekiranger.
I used to think this was the best Sentai ever made until I saw gokaiger
You don't anymore?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork it's still very good but gokaiger in my opinion is the best Sentai season by far
Gossip sentai dairanger is better than power rangers😊
:-)
Kaiju no Kami five star squadron great ranger is the best sentai in my opinion 👻
I finished this on Thursday along with Beatle Borgs season 1 and I have to say I think this show is an interesting one. It has it's main theme in Taoism and I think trying to transfer that in Mmpr season 2 might not have worked. Especially the rangers fighting styles because I don't feel like Trini or Aisha using Drunken Fist wouldn't make any since at all so I think it was better for them not to put that in there. Now my favorite characters have to be Ryo and Kazu. For Ryo I really felt like he was really willing to learn something new and try especially when it came to his first encounter with Jin which is also my favorite episode and the moment I respected Ryo the most like Takeru from Shinkenger and Sauske from Kakuranger. I thought the Gorma Tribe were fine as villains but I did not like The Emperor or Akamoro and I felt like Shadam was the true leader of the Gorma Tribe. But my least favorite character is Kou. I'm sorry but I just don't like pervert characters unless your Jirarya from Naurto but it's mainly the fact he missed used his powers and he left a fight for a girl. But I did feel for him with the whole issue with his mom but I still don't like him.
Ryo and Kazu are so badass, but it's hard for me to pick a favorite since they are all so good.
As for Kou being a pervert, he was a kid, so it makes sense.
Yeah I guess I can give him that. I still don't approve but oh well. But Kou is a good sixth ranger so I can't take that away.
11:58 actually the title of the least amount of monsters belongs to Deathgalien's Players. They have 24, Gorma has 25. The Stooges, the Movie monster, and the one in that episode in the future are counted.
You might wanna point out this fact when you get to Zyuohger :p
I reviewed this before Zyuohger existed. However, I don't count the 3 Stooges as MotW since they are part of a story arc.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Oh you made this before Zyuohger existed? Well my apologies then! I didn't see the original date in the credits. I just saw the date when this video was posted, or reuploaded, in 2018. So I wented off that.
Anyway, Even though the Three Stooges appear in multiple episodes. They still count as Gorma Minions, as they serve under Zydos. One of the military leaders who commands the gorma minions.
And can't you use that same relatively flawed logic on any monster that appears in more than one episode? Like Dora Frankie from Zyuranger, he appeared in four episodes. Does he appear in only one episode which is worth a week? No. But he still IS one of Bandoras numerous monsters. So he still gets categorized with the rest of them.
The same can be said to the stooges, they may appear in multiple episodes, but they are still categorized as Gorma Minions because they follow orders from the Gorma millitary trio, just like any other Gorma Minion would.
So if we go by your logic that monsters can only be counted as one if they only appear in a single episode, DeathGalien still has the least amount of monsters, as the majority appeared in 2-4 episodes. Making the the total "Monster of the week" count at 9 compared to Gorma's 13 (12 if you count Purse Priest/Monks appearance in the movie)
So sorry to say, but DeathGalien has the least amount of Monsters. Not Gorma. Either with or without your flawed logic, Deathgalien still wins the "Least amount of monsters" department.
For the Shadam and the other two to be the most powerful, I've literally seen them get beaten in hand-to-hand combat easily
They weren't the most powerful, but they were still badass.
Because they are actually dead 6000 years ago in a war between Gorma and Dai Tribe.
It wuold be cool having an unique mecha that have’s auxiliary mechas that give him an armor and in some point of the show the rangers discover that they can fuse the auxiliary mechas to form one
* Yurusenai intensifies *
lol
Plz tell me the akibarangers are next
lol No, not for a while. I do plan to get to it one day though.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork prease? It's been a while
Dairanger hands down has one of the darkest stories of any super Sentai series. Since I've been watching Liveman, and the actor that plays Kemp was in Dairanger. He was the character going around killing his former Sensei. The actor was also in Flashman and a couple other sentai series.
Dairanger didn't have any qualms about killing off innocent people. The series really took great care to give all the main characters decent character development, even the bad guys.
Hands down one of my favorites I've watched so far.
I would love to see Hirose return to Sentai for just one more season. What would be even cooler is if it was for the 50th and they had him reprise all of his previous characters on top of a new one.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork That would be pretty sweet.
I came here to honor the 5th anniversary of Tatsuya Nomi’s Tribute in respect.
Wow, has it been five years? Sad.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork it is
If I ever get a chance I plan on adapting my own version of some sentai series especially Dairanger into a combo of a live tv series and animated series.
Cool. I'd love to see that.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I already got the series bible, characters, and storyline done when the time is right I'll try and sell the idea to toei and an american company
@@aiden877 I really wanna hear about this
So you had to re-upload this video?.....anyways like you said I also think so to this still the best sentai series, there are others that I like a lot but none like Dairangers!
Yeah, a bunch of my early videos got claimed. Some were blocked, some weren't.
17:51 that guy sounds like momotaros
Not quite. Seki is the name of Momotaros' VA who also did Duo in Gundam Wing, but that actor is Shigeru Chiba. He's Kuwabara in Yu Yu Hakusho, PIlaf in DBZ, and Buggy in One Piece.
Here's my formula to make a great Sentai or heck just a Tokusatsu series in general :
1. Have each hero have at least 2 episodes to themselves to explore their character arcs.
2. Have each member of the villain team affect a different hero on a personal level.
3. Don't strictly adhere to the monster-of-the-week format.
4. Give the villains an interesting backstory, maybe even ones that tie in with that of a different hero.
That's all I have for now. What are your suggestions?
Have the rangers earn their mecha and not every episode needs to have a mech battle.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Here’s another idea to expand on yours : For the episodes without a mech battle, why not use them for a character’s backstory?
Which was something Junko didn't learn when writing both Lupin vs Pat and Zenkaiger sadly.
Don't forget the lips stick ninja
What about her?
JustinRoland Malangen huge sentai fan love episode 8 of five star squadron great ranger😊
Oh I Always Thought It Would Be Cool To Have A Sentai Villain Actor Play A Ranger Didn't Know It Had Already Happened With Shigeru Chiba Thou His Roles Where Both Smaller Ones.
It Would Be Cool Thou To See That For A Major Villain Actor Come Back & Play A Main Ranger One Day Like If A Child Villain Actor Would Go On & Play A Ranger As A Adult Years Later Or Something.
So you mean like someone who played a villain in one series and then came back years later to play one of the rangers?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Yes I Always Interested In Seeing That Reverse Many Ranger Actors Have Played Major Villains In Seasons But Not Other Way
Unofficial Sentai Akibarangers
"Damn you Saban!"
I know.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Guys Power Ragners was brand new, so I cut some slack here. However I have enjoyed Dairanger.
@Zoid Gundum Not even Saban thought it would have lasted as long as it did. Just another show that would come and go MMPR took America by storm, and now its has its niche in nerddom. Also helped Super Sentai and their cult status outside of Japan.
Rewatched this season recently and gotta say it's still as great as ever. But the flaws that are in it prevent it from being a perfect 5/5 for me but it has a strong plot for most of its run.
Glad to hear you still enjoyed it/ I've watched this show over 17 times, and that's not including the times I've just watched a random episode here or there.
Yeah, Kirin Ranger is meant to be spelled Kirin, however Qilin is still an appropriate spelling for the mythical beast in question as it is one of the spelling variations in real life so I guess both subtitles would work well.
Yeah, it works, it just looks so weird to me. Then again, some fansubbers for some reason spelled Gorma as Gouma, which makes no sense to me either.
Did you know the kid who played Kou's brother was the main kid character in Kamen Rider ZO?
No I did not.
To describe Dairanger, it is one of the most messed up shows to be ever made and that messed up legacy was enhanced by the fact it became an American youth phenomenon (under MMPR's second season since it was at the peak of its popularity at the time) just because of a few thin edits. Had to reference retroblasting from his Voltron review: ruclips.net/video/gCL1OaeWtYY/видео.html
Now that I think about it, both Golion and Dairanger do have things similar to each other in retrospective. I know ppl would compare Daizyujin and Golion but Dairanger and G's stories have similar beats which make it even more comparable.
Also, both series do have problems they faced when they were ported to the West such as protests of violence and etc. in the show despite them being not as violent as their original sources so they had to tone down a LOT of things in both Voltron and MMPR S2 which as stupid.
I still feel Dairanger is an amazing successor to Jetman imo. It does things a lot better than Zyuranger.
Well yeah, Sugimura defintiely took everything he learned about Zyuranger and used it to make Dairanger. I've never seen the Golion comparison before, but I can totally see it now.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork One example I can think of is Ryo has an intense rivalry with Jin and both never fight as giants but themselves kinda like how Kogane and Sincline does it hand to hand. The only time Sincline/Lotor ever faced someone in a robot was in the American adaptation crossover 'Fleet of Doom'.
You fail to mention that theme of the villains is a parody of The Imperial March from Star Wars.
Yep. :)
You know they totally did that on purpose.
@@cameronringle6419 Maybe they figured, hey, George Lucas ripped off so much from Japanese movies for Star Wars, we can rip off something from him.
I watched through this series, thought it was a lot of fun. Stuff like a recurring villain who isn’t a big rubber monster suit, but instead a psychotic martial artist who kills people with his bare hands, was the kind of thing that doesn’t get brought over here for Power Rangers! It reminded me a lot of the ‘80s and ‘90s comics that I grew up on.
Also just on a side point, Kazu’s side plots make perfect sense once you realize the whole subtext that he’s gay. (He ran away from home in the countryside to try out life in the city, he works in a hair salon and dresses impeccably, his friendship with Kameo, etc.)
I could totally see that being the plot for Kazu.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork When I saw the episode about how he’d run away from his countryside hometown as a teenager, that was the moment of, oh, right, that’s what they were doing with him.

I want to say it's called Japanese Waves by Butterfly Tea, but it's been so long I'm not 100% sure anymore.
I got to be honest I'm not sure if I ever said anything on your first version of this video. But I'm not sure what to think of this series anymore. Also I don't know if the Japanese would still like this series anymore. I mean this series is based on China things and I know that the Japanese and Chinese hate each other and giving what China did now I'm not sure if this series would be looked at in a good light anymore. Like I said I'm not even sure what to think of this series anymore.
I'm not sure I follow. What how does something between Japan and China (not even sure what that is either) have any effect on the story telling of this series?
Kou and Sasuke from Dairanger and Kakuranger visit at Power Morphicon 2018.
I saw Kou was announced. Wish I could go.
Kaiju no Kami Sasuke and Hyuuga from Kakuranger and Gingaman too is announced.
I understand the PR and SS should be distinct from one another, and I know how many enjoy how MMPR Season 2 is as is (though it was jarring with the replacing cast members); Voltron LD inspired me to think of an AU where the Thunder Rangers (not from Ninja Storm) were a completely different team from the Dino Rangers:
Unlike how MMPR went on, the setting changes to Stone Canyon where Tommy moves to. He meets new friends and gains new powers to face the Gouma Tribe, lead by Lord Zedd himself, with the three main villains of Dairanger, Westernized and in non-BDSM outfits, as his hench people. It combines stories from both PR and Dairanger, but mostly the former and this is the dynamic:
White Tiger Ranger: David Trueheart
Pink Firebird Ranger: Kat Hillard
Yellow Kirin (or Griffin) Ranger: Aisha Campbell
Blue Pegasus (or Unicorn) Ranger: Rocky DeSantos
Green Lion Ranger: Adam Park
Red Dragon Ranger: Tommy Oliver
Looking back on Zeo; it does make sense this could have been the dynamic. I mean this as no offense as the Red Ranger became insignificant when Tommy became the White Ranger and took over as leader, but Rocky NEVER fit being a Red Ranger since he didn't have leadership material. Also, Rocky feels a lot like Shouji since both are enthusiastic about martial arts. David Trueheart joining the team feels like he's used better than Zeo; seriously, he got phased out of the series when the Gold Ranger was revealed to be an alien prince. Maybe he and Tommy switch powers to make it fee more PR, maybe they stay with their powers, who knows? And hey, maybe Tor, like Daimugen has a human form?
Sorry for the long-winded idea; Boom Studios and fanfiction REALLY make you think. Ang again, I respect how MMPR already is, but it does make one think what could have happened if things were different.
Rocky was better than Jason though.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Likely going to regret asking but... is this response because of what Jason's actor did recently?
Not quite. I was actually never a fan of Jason as a chracter even as a kid. I thought he was the weakest of the original five personality wise. Trini was my favorite until Tommy came in, then Zack, then Kim, after that came Billy's muscles, and then came Jason. I actully liked Rocky more than Billy.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I can respect that; at least Boom Studios developed them better than the show.

2 questions
1. How would you feel if Kujaku became an extra or 6th ranger in Dairanger ?
2. How would you feel if Dairanger or Jetman were adopted in to the first season of Power Rangers ?
I already feel like Kujaku was kind of an extra hero in Dai. As for how I would feel if that was the first PR series, I would have loved it since it would mean I would have Dairanger Lightning Collection figures in my case right now.

It could be cool an súper sentai about dragons where the rangers must compete with villain mafias in an treasure hunt to have the power to have an reality altering wish (kinda like boukenger but done right) and there is an female ranger that his an dragon girl that doesn’t have an human face looking more like the western version of doggie crueger

M41 Busmaniac Is there something you need to tell us?😇
I just watched Dairanger for the second time. The first time about 4 years ago I didn’t appreciate it much but this time around I appreciated it more. Dairanger was a very solid series. Love the opening theme song and ending theme song. I thought the 3 stooges episodes were pretty fun and comedic, however random they are.
Glad you enjoyed Dai moreso this time around. :-)
I love the white tiger zord slash saba he’s a bad ash zord and a bad ash zord. It sucks that they had Rita brother destroy all the season 1 and two zord like 4 episodes into might morphin season 3 except for dragon zord titanus and toor the career zord.
I still remember how shocked I was when Season 3 premiered and Rito destroyed the Thunderzords at the end. That season had a lot of incredible moments you didn't see coming.
I think my favourite monsters in Dairanger are the Three Ladies of Hell or I know them in MMPR as Nimrod the Scarlet Sentinel with AC & DC. After watching the Kibaranger arc, I think it's really disappointing that Saban didn't use more footage for these monsters because Scarlet Sentinal was my favourite monster in MMPR.
Also White Light was the first MMPR episode I saw when I was a kid.

How many monster dairanger have’s
I want to say it's like 27 when you count the three Hell Sisters and three idiots separately.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork and kinghoger comes and makes that the bugnaroks have much less monsters of the week (goseiger too if you divide the 3 factions)
Yeah Dairanger is such an insane series and besides my comments before where I said that I loved a series as a kid and meh as an adult. Dairanger is just a solid series that even an adult can watch without really getting bored. It's pretty much a martial arts super hero show with just robot fights sprinkled every here and there. It didn't have a ton of gimmicks and blatant "buy the toys" moments unlike pretty much some of the series after especially in the 2000's where it's gimmick into gimmick. Dairanger also has the best fight choreography in any sentai still and that out of suit role call still gives me shivers to this day whenever I watch a clip of it just because of how well executed it was. The Ryo and Jin fight also was so beautifully done. I personally hated the Kujaku subplot but in the series it was Daigo that was my favorite ranger. Everytime that subplot happened, I just rolled my eyes. RIP his actor though.
It's my same sentiment with Gaim, sure that one is a ton of gimmicks and pretty much hypes you up for the toys but the story for that Kamen Rider series is just so solid, I haven't really felt the need to watch any Kamen Rider series after that. I just get my news and synopsis of the series from friends.
I definitely recommend checking out Revice. I think it's the best post Gaim Kamen Rider series as it is constantly going in directions you didn't see coming. If the show continues the way it has been, it may end up being the best KR series since Blade.
In my opinion, Dairanger has the best costume design and best theme song, or at least one of the best theme songs, Nothing can convince me otherwise
I totally agree. Dairanger for me is the best Toku series of all time.
I'm pretty sure you no all about the stories. but Saban thought about adapting dairanger but changed his mind because mmpr was extremely successful and shaking things up too much for toy sales would have caused problems
Yep.
Very Accurate Review. Also do you noticed that the Costume for The Gorma Generals is based heavily on Hellraiser's Entities !
I too loved the Show. I mean if the climax didn't feel like "everything was cooked for it to burn" the conflict would have made a meaning. It was overall a fun ride.
I don't know if they are directlly based on Hellraiser, but they both love bondage.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork lmao
My question is: how do you forget that you're a giant turtle mecha?!
Well he never knew he was since he wasn't reincarnated with his past memories.
I wonder why the duration of a Dairanger episode is less than 20 minutes, was it because the commercials break or something else...?
It was do to the timeslot the show aired in. From Episode 9 of Dynaman through Episode 6 of Megaranger, Sentai aired on Friday nights from 5:30-5:55PM. As such, the shows were five minutes shorter because the news would come on immediately after.
I agree with you on this one, but I'd add Shinkenger, Gokaiger, and Bioman as very close to it :)
The only one that comes close to Dairanger for me is Kakuranger. :-)
Imagine if Saban had worked Bulk into being a human form of Tor in MMPR season 2. Would have been better than Zordon going "The rangers are in trouble, lets whip out the new Zord we had the entire time but waited until now to send it out!"
They'll have to deal with Skull though.
Someone else just brought that up and it is an interesting idea.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork It would have been interesting to see what Bulk and Skull's interactions would be with the main 5 as well. Plus with the duo being comic relief characters, having Bulk in a Zord form squishing some monsters would indeed be fitting.
It wuold be cool having an sentai show that was based on Chinese zodiacs
At this point it would be too similar to Dairanger and Kyuranger.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork they just need to do that the red wasn’t the focus
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork For a franchise that’s been around this long, they sometimes recycle themes, putting a new twist on them here and there, etc.
*This show is not worth your time.* If you're an enjoyer of it, more power to you, but if you're looking for a new Sentai to enjoy, let me be the voice of dissent & give you some contrast from the video above so you can make a fair assessment of what you're getting into _(should you chose to watch it)_ . *Warning, spoiler heavy:
• The opening & prologue are a massive drag on each episode. While Hirokazu Umeda has some undeniable chops, the opening spoils a _fair bit_ of the plot of the episode, and the prologue is such mind-numbing padding; you're suffering through a spoiler session + recap episode if you don't skip ahead.
• The white ranger brother (who's also 10) acts as a honey trap for him and dies to a boulder _(twice, but the 2nd time was with their mother, after getting mortally wounded by his father, so it's ok?)_ and they're both the son of an evil mastermind who made everyone out of clay....including himself.
• The "each ranger gets an arc" only really amounts to them flashing momentos they receive from those arcs so they can ruin the, admittedly, very cool out-of-suit roll-call to _get_ their Morphers back inexplicably, allowing them to finish off Zydos _(who's Van Darkholm with volcanos on his head)_ .
• Gara's character arc is a ripoff of a monster of the week from the show by the name of Lipstick Songstress, with the scar given by Kujaku _(Green Rangers love interest/Gara's nemesis)_ instead of Pink Ranger. She is also made out of clay and gets killed by her _real soul_ chilling with Kujaku inexplicably.
• Kou is never told about his brother or father; his arc is never resolved.
• Episodes 7-8 are a blatant Star Wars ripoff, & there is an imperial march ripoff used throughout the show [ ruclips.net/video/fXDKBeLzddU/видео.html ].
There's _many more_ things that could be addressed, but the long & short of it is: the series strengths don't outweigh its glaring flaws, and it's just not enjoyable outside of a few solid fights.
I totally disagree with you, but there are some fair criticisms. I don't see how the Star Wars ripoff makes it any less amazing though. If you're going to rip off something, might as well do it from one of the best.
Kou's arc is resolved, not sure what you mean there. I agree Gara's arc was similar to Lipstick Songstress' one, but are you sure that was not intentional? It shows how vain the women of Gorma are.
Opening song is amazing. One of the best Sentai openings ever. Not sure how either that nor the ending are a drag.
This show is the greatest Toku show ever made and I will continue to promote that fact for eternity. 🙂
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork
• The opening for each ep completely spoils key moments in the ep for no real benefit; I love the song, but hate when bits of the ep are just tacked on to ruin the fresh experience.
• Kou's arc is not only left unresolved, but he's _barely_ used or acknowledged as an actual member of the team towards the end _(he doesn't even get a fight with Kaku for the right to his morpher, he gives up the items he fought for & his mother/brother died for like it's nothing!!)_ . Also, he never learns about his father or brother, and Ryu is the one who avenges them....which is stupid.
• Gara is a completely uninteresting character, played by an actress who's over qualified to suffer that kind of weak writing. While Liveman has a ton of issues as a series, Mazenda was a *far* more interesting character, and the fact that her story ends with her best friend laughing at her with her real soul in toe as crumbles out of existence is just morbid & dumb.
• Akomarus character direction feels like a weird pervy snuff film, which only amounts to him getting killed from a rockslide for the _second time_ while holding his mothers hand. He & his brother were also sired by clayman? This is never resolved. His only friend was a demon from hell that the rangers foddered without him present.
• Episodes 7-8 aren't even homages, they're _one-to-one_ scene recreations of Return of the Jedi _(including Ryu removing his fathers mask as he dies, complete with Dai force ghosts & a master that shoots lightening)_ . The show also continues to use the imperial march theme for some reason?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My friend & I had been watching your reviews for a little bit now, and we went into this after just off the heels of Geki ranger _(and we loved it)_ , prior to that watching Time Ranger _(amazing)_ , and then _very_ confused how something as good as Abaranger got the same score as Liveman, which as I mentioned, is a mess. We saw your high praise of Dairanger, decided to binge it _(just finishing last night)_ and...we're honestly puzzled why these kind of issues aren't mentioned in the review.
The Gorma are terrible villains, and Kazu's coolness entirely comes down to his drunken fist (which is just window-dressing most of the time in a few of his fights and never further explored); there's just....so much wrong with this show. I appreciate that you like it, and I admit its aesthetics are fantastic, great mechs, good actors....but the writing ultimately makes all that window dressing for a turd, and I think casual passersby need to see these criticisms.
The 3 score mean I loved the hell out of the show, but it had way too many flaws to overlook as it hindered my enjoyment. Fours go to the exceptional series while 5 is just near perfection.
Now for the review itself, this was the second Sentai review I had ever done, so I was still figuring out how I wanted to do TV series reviews at the time. As such, there are a lot of things I never touched upon. I do plan to rereview Dairanger and Zyuranger at some point to make them match the review style I started using with Kakuranger.
However, I can't agree with most of your criticism. The only Gorma member I did find weak was Zydos, but Shadam and Gara were excellent. I don't think any of it is window dressing, but it does have some flaws. Nevertheless, it is that one Toku show I can put any episode on and enjoy it to its fullest without an issue compared to many other series where I really have to be in the mood to watch them.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork You seriously weren't disappointment to find out the whole org was S&M claymation? Or that Kou never found out about his father or brother? Or find it strange how a _clay cock even sired him in the first place?_
You'd really put Gorma with the ranks of The Londerz family, Abarakiller, Predatory Fist? Long? Hells Gate prisoners? Hell, compare any of the Gorma to Jin from the same show!
Hell, Akomaru probably had the best motivation out of any of them, and all that leads is for his only friend to get yeeted in a kaiju fight without him present, and for him to get stoned with his family for the second time!
No, I thought it was such a damn good plot twist. Kou had no need to find out who his father and brother were because he only cared about his mother. That was never his plot point.
Most definitely for your question abour Gorma. I love the fact that they were an entire society from ancient China who acquired the ability to transform themselves. They had their own government and everything, which is so different from your typical Sentai villains. The only group I consider better than Gorma is the Psyma Clan. However, Junior from Kakuranger is my favorite Sentai villain as a whole.
I love Dairanger it’s one of my favorites. I do think the show could use some polishing here and there which is what keeps it from being a perfect 5 in my book but it’s still a phenomenal show. 4.5-5/5 guis for me. I don’t have a favorite episode since I pretty much enjoyed every episode of this show.
I think the run time having an extra 5 minutes could have possibly polished it, but it doesn't matter, it's the greatest Toku series ever made in my book.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork yeah it’s up there for me for top 10 toku shows
Perfect song choice for the bike scene 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Thanks. :-)
Kaiju no Kami I laughed my ass off at it and was happy you brought it back in the carranger review.
:-) Sometimes a scene just writes itself for a repeated joke.
Props to the suit actors I’m getting tired just looking at them move around in the suits
It's definitely hard work. There's a video out there that shows how they filmed one of the mech scenes and they would do like 30 seconds of the suit in motion, cut so they could then have the suit actor take the head off to air himself out, and repeat.
What I like about Kou is that even though he's a child, he still manages to give the other Dairangers the beatdown when evil. Also, does Daijinryuu just have like some sort of Spider-Sense? Like he's like: 'Oh, I sense that the Dairangers and the Gorma are fighting again. Time for me to go back to Earth and destroy the world unless they form a truce!"
lol I have no idea, but that is a neat idea for Daijinryu. :-D
Jojo reference anyone?
lol
Until I saw Kakuranger this was my favorite Sentai for a good part of a decade.
You can't go wrong either way.
Akiba ranger recreating the dairanger theme is hilarious lmao and I love dairangers sound track especially the ending theme. 😊
Same.
This is so far the only 90s Sentai I’ve finished and even after a few months of seeing the season, it’s definitely in my top 3 with Kyoryuger and Boukenger so far. I can’t say which one is my favorite between the three so far but Daigo is without question one of the first characters that comes to my mind instantly when I think about my favorite characters in Tokusatsu. I still consider myself a newbie with Super Sentai as I haven’t seen 10 seasons yet, but Dairanger is definitely a season I’m going to hold at a very high standard when it comes to Tokusatsu.
Dairanger was my third Sentai series and it instantly became my favorite.
I see Dairanger and now Zyuranger
Cool. Did you enjoy them?
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork yes
Now this series was by far the best sentai series of all time everything about screamed the best ever, the character were awesome the villain's were also amazing the fight scenes were awesome and the martial arts they used was just so badass and the music was oozing with badassery .the mechs are my favorite in the entire sentai series by far and its the one sentai show that i did not have least favor ep my favorite ep is the two part titled a bad bad bad guy and the final punch the red ranger had to go through so much just to defeat his soon to be rival later on but there were faults that got me kou's mother over acting and the Birdcage Vagrant now dont get me wrong loved the episode and loved his backstory its just his design never really grabbed me aside from the faults i gave this series a 5 out 5 as my favorite sentai show
Agreed about it being the best Sentai series. For me, it might even be the best Toku series.
If there was an arc where the Rangers went to different eras of ancient China and met Chinese historical figures and warriors which ones would you want them to meet.
That's a tough one because I only remember small bits and pieces about Chinese history from when I was in college 20 years ago. Probably the Qing dynasty.
Dairanger is really gooood everything about the show is great. If this is a lot of other Sentai fans favorite Sentai then that makes sense
Definitely.
This is a Sentai a lot of people like that I couldn’t really get into, I heard that alot of people also consider this one of the best Sentai ever made and I’m sorry but I have to disagree. Also yes I’m one of the people who hated the finale it honestly killed the whole show for me. I understand why a lot of people like dairanger but it’s honestly not for me.
What did you not like about it?
I found it honestly boring at times, I thought kou was interesting since you know child ranger but he was honestly so underused, I honestly can’t remember any of the rangers cause they just didn’t stand out to me personally other then yellow cause drunken master style fighting which is awesome, also that finale was just so stupid in my opinion it had a good beginning I’ll admit that, the beginning was strong but as soon as they did the whole the bad guys were clay dolls the whole time thing it just went down the toilet for me and the whole good can’t live without evil and vice versa thing after that reveal just brought more questions then answers like who actually made them. So yeah with a cast that didn’t really thrill me and a finale that just confused me greatly. This is honestly why I didn’t have fun with dairanger. I understand why a lot of people like it but I just can’t ignore these problems I have with it I’m sorry.
