- Time for a grimdark serial killer song! Fortunately the Fallout universe is full of dark and horrific storylines and characters, so inspiration was not lacking for this one. The song is based on Pickman (no spoilers here for anyone who hasn't found him yet) and tells a tale of a tortured soul who takes the role of the grim reaper of the wasteland.

Both of you should try a video game, truly different medium than film, music, or book. Its the symbiose of the three, it's a combination and more, the user is not passive, it is the actor. That's why video games are arts.

Something else to think about, what do you think the raiders think of the player? When you go throughout the commonwealth and kill different raider groups, you can hear discussions on how "so and so died" etc. Just like Uylsses in New Vegas' Lonesome Road said, wherever you are, death follows. "The road to hell is paved with good intentions", even when helping the commonwealth, you need to kill many to get to that point. So in the end, who is the real monster?

Oh, I realized that I do not really agree with what you said. As "monster", I meant "someone who can act monstrously/evil". A rabbit isnt virtuous, it's just harmless and gets eaten. A person who realizes that they are a monster(capable of evil), but chooses to not act monstrously, is virtuous.
You need someone who can do evil but chooses to put it away, to defeat a monster/ to defeat evil. That is a hero.
@@theranger8668 What of his art makes him a hero? Killing raiders because they kill the innocent is one thing. Displaying them and making their bodies into contorted 'art' and painting with their blood is entirely different. He is someone who enjoys killing not for the act, but for what comes 'after'. We (in some cases) kill because we have to, in some cases we kill because we feel forced to (picking a side, killing others) but is that a lack of our willingness to find a common ground, or a want to quell our darker desires?
Realistically it's because Bethesda is bad at story design, Project Valkyrie, Outcasts and Remnants, Fusion City ftw.

I'm not gonna lie, i fell asleep watching this for a few minutes because im not used to staying up till 12:50am and deadass thought i managed to sleep through my playlist long enough to hear this again. Now i realize that this song is just long and it was only a few minutes and not a couple hours.
10/10 though, managed to turn a song about a psychopath into a lullaby and put me to sleep

If there's one thing I love just as much or even more than synthwave anthems, it's eerie fairy tale-esque melodies built into industrial/electronic tracks. One of your strongest works to date!

Turning the playback speed to 1.25x really changes how it sounds, both the original and this are epic.

I found him to be a pretty nice, cool guy. Even his "unique" art had some charm to it. Would've been interesting if he could become a companion and you could help him with making "art". It would be an interesting addition to the game, though not for the feint of heart.
With him as a companion, you could collect individual body parts and gallons of blood from raiders to use in your masterpieces. It would be both beautiful and horrifying.
I would absolutely love for that to be in the game. xD Pickman's art was the lone inspiration for the musical style here, I tried to make a melody that sounds like his pieces look.

Now it is 2024, but I still feel you're right. It's because we're on the brink, and once our society experiences the great overturn that all society faces, the madness of people like Pickman will be released. The order of our society keeps them in control of themselves, but when it falls, they will be free to do as they please. For some, like the Raiders, it will lead to the death and suffering of the innocent. For others, like the Minutemen, it will lead to the preservation and joy of the innocent. But for those like Pickman, it will lead to the death and suffering of the guilty. And they will revel in it. And they are the ones who scare us the most.
We dislike Pickman for the same reason we are to dislike Satan. Yes, he brings justice upon the evil. But he revels in it so, that he needs there to be evil to punish, and will do anything to find someone "evil" to punish. For Satan, since God is the one who defines evil, he corrupts people to turn them evil. For Pickman, he is the one who defines the "evil" he can punish. If he is running out of evil people to punish, he can simply broaden his definition of evil. Until eventually, he tries to punish the innocent, proclaiming their inherent evil.

Aside from been spectacularly creepy, the wonderful rhymes are inspiration for some of mine. The "When the world turned to grey, the hatred wouldn't go away" line is brilliant.

I like a lot of your songs, but this one is on a level on its own. I love everything about this piece: the lyrics, the melody, the whole mood of the song. It's perfect in more ways than one. I've listened to this song so many times and I have most of the lyrics memorized, and I read the description that it was about Pickman a few days ago, and I only just put together what that meant when I was singing it to myself and I reached the 6th line.

Never played Fallout before, but this song is amazing.
the song is about a very intresting character in fallout 4 about a serial killer known as pickman who toruers his victims to death then uses there blood to creat artistic paintings of there last moments he wares a suit and speaks in a very calm polite voice what makes him diffrent is he only targets raiders which you can imagine as imortan joes men from fury road if they were all drug addicts and had no moral code to the point they string up corpses on barb wire as decoration so the game makes you question should you let this serial killer who only targets serial killers go and if you are really that diffrent from him

Pickman! Best minor character in the whole game in my opinion. I wish we could have more interactions with him than just that short mission. Maybe make him a companion or a permanent addition to a settlement. The song definitely fits him perfectly and just like the song I’m a little bit in love. :P

The instrumentals make me think of the soundtracks for Interstellar and Made in Abyss. The ticking clock is oddly comforting.
The character sounds interesting. I've heard the philosophy of murder as art too much, but fancying oneself a death god entitled to the last moments of their victims--that one's fresh for me.

"Resentment in chains... madness remains" whether the entirety of Fallout presents the symbolism of modern society as a scar on the face of humanity, or whether this song demonstrates the infallibility of guilt living in a world that builds itself off killings/residual inequality - I don't know.
I am not unsettled by this song as it merely depicts plotted revenge which is 1 of the most common themes... the macro scale of human emotion portrayed through verbs is impressive, and oxymoronic when compared with the lyrix in quotes above.
I feel this song suggests that the force of man against himself is greater than man against man, and in some scenarios, the latter wins because the former wins, therefor there are more oft stale mates than victories

Absolutely adore the melody, its hard to find things that are hauntingly beautiful, and not just straight up dark, hard gothic rock or something else, which some of I like, but find difficult to listen to as I am prone to migraines and headaches.
