LYRICS:
Scarlet Sky Gavin Dunne 2022
Do you remember the proud times?
Standing so tall
Our golden glow used to outshine all
But I'm falling apart
Try to hold on to my soul
Blight beats through my broken heart
My scarlet sky
Gravity will break and bend
My scarlet sky
Waiting for the end
Just you and I
Stay with me through time, my friend
And we will keep the stars from falling through the
Scarlet sky
Down by the waves they will find me
Savage, defiled
This poison spreading inside me, wild
I'm falling apart
I don't recognize myself
Blight beats through my broken heart
My scarlet sky
Gravity will break and bend
My scarlet sky
Waiting for the end
Just you and I
Stay with me through time, my friend
And we will keep the stars from falling through the
Scarlet sky
Out across the red we rush
Constellations yield to us
Down in the roots she slumbers
As I am torn asunder
The hunger ever stronger
Just let me taste my honour lost
My scarlet sky
Gravity will break and bend
My scarlet sky
Waiting for the end
Just you and I
Stay with me through time, my friend
And we will keep the stars from falling through the
Scarlet sky
Rusted steel
The gravity is negative
Out across the red we rush
Constellations yield to us - Видеоклипы

Are you seriously suggesting that _Orks_ should acquire the *_Scarlet Rot??_*
You're a Nurgle worshipper, ain't ya? XD
Ever since I learned the lore I can’t unsee the image of a teenager Radahn shouting at the sky in the middle of the night being like: “UNIVERSE! I CHALLENGE YOU! FACE ME!”
I immediately thought of a variation on that Norm MacDonald bit "Radahn decided to go to war. And who did he choose as his foe? THE STARS. It had never been tried before. You figure it'd take 5 seconds for the stars to win but no he actually won"
And now he will forever, in my mind, be voiced by Vegeta.
I want a meme of this
@@hunterdidsomething8437 I just see Radahn's helmet on Zuko screaming at the clouds xD
“FUCK YOU STARS!”
Even if you think Radahn was on the “wrong” side of the cosmic war, I don’t think anyone can dispute that Radahn was one of the noblest characters in the Lands Between. Beloved by, and beloved his men in equal measure, learned Gravity Magic just to keep riding his beloved childhood horse even as he grew to titanic size, only reached stalemate with Malenia because she summoned an Outer God to nuke the continent, and even after going mad, was able to kill everyone who tried to take him down, hold back the stars, and keep protecting Leonard from his immense weight. RIP Chadahn.
The shattering didn’t have sides, it was a free for all. If there were sides, radahn was on radahn’s side
Truly, a chad among gods.
Radahn lost to Morgott when he attacked Leyndall to take the Elden Throne in the First (possibly) Defense of Leyndall. We see it in the opening cinematic, where Morgott has him pinned to the ground. He was younger back then, though, but his powers were still the same. Also, Radahn's men used fire, which is heretical to the Golden Order, but that might have been after the Scarlett Rot started spreading.
Despite that, Malenia only fought Radahn to prevent him from becoming Elden Lord so Miquella's visions could come to fruition. Truthfully, Malenia is the only demi-god who fought for someone else and she hated the Scarlett Rot. She used it only to beat Radahn so she would stay undefeated so people would fear challenging. Even then, Finlay had to carry her all the way back to the Haligtree to discover that Miquella was gone, but they had no idea Mogh took him, because they didn't know who Mogh was.
@@atomicbaconbits6695(IF I COMPLETELY MISSRED THE SITUATION AND YOU HAVE NO INTENTION OF TROLLING OR INSULTING RAHDAN IN ANY WAY PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CORRECT ME) I like how you made this comment to undermine the pure chad energy that rahdan is oozing but in the end you couldn't hold the topic for very long and ended up talking about malenia and not giving any actual reasons why rahdan is not as good as people think or your just trolling so you can get people like me to say something either way rahdan is the biggest chad that anyone will every see and rahdan will live on forever in our hearts of the dark souls community.
@@aurorathomson2051 Huh, just a random bit of lore triggered someone. I'm speechless.
If there's one thing you can say about Radogan's kids, none of them dreamed small. One challenged the sky, three more tried to challenge the very foundation of their world, and the last simply swore to support her brother in all his endeavors.
Yeah, the children of Marika are all truly demigods, not only by their raw power but by the level of their ambitions and epicness. True scions of the greatest girl in history.
Or as Marika puts it: You either become someone, or you become a sacrifice.
@@AlexCatable except godrick godrick was just an idiot
According to a theory I really like, before Miquela was stolen, Miquela was communicating with Melania and they were planning to try and fully and truly bring back Godwin somehow, and that the reason Melania was trying to fight Radahn was so that they can release the stars and allow fate to move as part of their plan to do so
Edit: according to this theory it is within this fight that Miquela is kidnapped by Mohgwyn.
@@Karak-_- The latter part is fulfilled by us. For, when their war and strife and ambition stagnated or decayed, the Tarnished came. And we carve through them, one by one, to claim our throne.
The saddest thing about Malenia and Radahn's entire battle, it happened because she thought Radahn was the one that stole Miquella, not Mohg. That's the only thing that makes sense as to why they fought, Miquella went missing and the trail led towards Caelid seemingly towards Radahn, when in reality it was underneath Caelid. They fought over a mistake.
That makes so much sense.
Sadly
no body won that battle they both lost everything when you realize malenia only let the scarlet rot take hold of her because she believed it would save her brother
@Lorraine Until DLC comes out and we kick his ass back into the stars you mean.
That is only a theory, but it is one I am inclined to believe. If it were anyone else, I would say it was just an attempt to get more power. But Malenia never Cared a out power.

Raddahn is pretty crazy when you think about it. Driven mad by Scarlett rot, still uses constant gravity magic to not squish his horse and to stop the stars entirely.
Imagine if we had to fight him in his prime
Even in his worst state, Radahn never forgets the choice he made that day, for the sake of his steed, the one friend he always knows he can count on.
He also is capable of using advanced gravity magic and actual weapons to fight, even when he's otherwise basically a beast. The use of his magic and swords were so ingrained in him that it's pure instinct.
@@arlom5132 We'd have no chance. It took a cosmic god manifesting through its avatar a biological weapon scaled to wipe out half a continent to even slow him down, and he still promptly wiped out most of Melania's army in response. I think the only reason he didn't use gravity to just throw her into orbit the second he saw her is because he wanted an honorable fight against a powerful opponent, and that pride cost him.
@@thefez-cat well said
YES! THIS is Radahn at his finest, his relationship with Leonard and never faltering in his love, his unyielding honour in order to emulate his idol Godfrey, his unwillingness to break under the weight of the stars despite his madness. You've outdone yourself Gavin in showing us General Radahn at his greatest! Can't wait for more from you!
Just a tip to avoid confusion, when talking about Radahn you might want to use words like "insanity" or "broken mind" rather than madness, since Madness is its own separate thing.
You can actually feel Radahn's feelings: the fury against the despised Malenia, the sorrow for the loss of his honor, the love for his faithful horse... Amazing. Gav really gave justice to the Starscourge.
Amazing job, mate. Hope this starts a process similiar to the one that gave us many great songs about The Witcher 3.

at first i was a bit disapointed. i imagined a song depicting Radahn as epic. powerfulle and "massive" in its impact. then as i got to the first peak i realized that was there and this song did depict that its jsut that it fokuses on the profound tradegy that is he's fate as a rot-madend husk of he's former self.
ultimatly Gav you managed to once again not only depict the surface-level impresion of the charakter into music but also the deeper themes at play.
that Radahn, ironacly was a brightly shining star acendant and powerfulle yet draged down to earth my Malenia and finaly extinguished buy the player.
That was exactly the idea, yeah :) It was written & arranged to feel like the emotional experience of someone who USED to be powerful and imposing and majestic, but who is now fallen from grace, sick & falling apart both mentally and physically.
@@miracleofsound Definitely getting some *King Lear* vibes from that description...

Agree. Some of the most powerful vocals from Gav to date, and that's saying something.
Coming back to this after receiving the other side of the coin in Purest Gold. Absolute musical genius.
The song really conveyed Radahn's pride towards his accomplishments, sorrow and pain for his corruption, bitterness to Malenia for causing that, and the lingering affection for his horse. I wonder what Ranni or Marika's song will sound like?

Nicely spotted ;) The middle section is the meteor
This song holds everything I admire about Radahn's lore, and adds an entirely new dimension to his strength. His willpower, his endurance.
The first "But I'm falling apart" had me instantly crying. To imagine such a powerful warrior grieving for what he lost, almost sounding like a plea for help.

I love how scornful the tone shifts into when addressing Malenia.
Not only did this man take a Scarlet Rot nuke to the face, he continued to hold up the very heavens themselves through sheer force of will, while also using his gravity magic to levitate himself after losing his feet, and making sure his sheer mass didn't crush his best friend, Leonard.
Truly, he is the most most chad of all chads.

@@spacejam5486 Yes.
Radahn is my favourite character in Elden Ring, and this song did him so much justice unbelievable how great it is
The gravelly sounding voice late in the song sounds great. In a way it takes me all the way back to Binary Divide and how you learned to growl just to make the Darkness more authentic for that song, the way you're always teaching yourself and trying something new so each song can grow, feel fresh and unique, and capture something new about the story they each represent, the passion for what you do is outstanding.
Having recently replayed The Darkness 1 and 2, I had binary divide playing in my head the whole time and kept catching little bits of lyrics in the game. God I love Gavs talent.
What a Monster of a mixing job this was. Gonna be one of my favs tho!

Tremendous job, Frank. Absolutely stellar in every way!
Radahn's pose at 3:03 with that roar of "Out across the red we rush" is so fucking good
I was expecting an epic war song about an incredible war god... instead I got a beautiful, bittersweet ballad about a tortured soul and his dying steed.
The lore of Radanh is impresive. Thanks for this wonderful song.
Everything about this is just so perfect for Radahn. The calm reminiscence about his honoured past, leading into him remembering his friend and his purpose, before abruptly crescendoing into the battle. And then that screamed challenge to the stars themselves... chills, just chills all over. I love your music.
Gods, Gavin but that ending was absolutely insane! A wonderful tribute to a tragic character and one of the best boss battles in Elden Ring. Can't wait to see what else you have planned for us. This song. Extraordinary. The mark of a true metal Lord.
This is the kind of song Paradise Lost never quite managed to write. Absolutely sublime.
Find someone who looks at you the way Radahn looks at Leonard.
"...Howling at the sky"
I don't know how high I am but, I think Radahn howling at the sky means he's telling them something. He's telling them the only way he will relinquish his hold is quite literally over his dead body.

I hope Morgott gets a song. He probably won't, I know you're busy. But he's such a well-written character
A song dedicated to the most brave, loyal warrior in all of Elden Ring, and General Radahn.
I think one of the biggest reasons I always come back to your music is because your songs are just disconnected enough to where it doesn't need to be game related, and yet connected enough to where if you know and like the context it enhances it even further. Just a masterclass in original work and fan work perfectly woven into your music's DNA. It's honestly extremely admirable, Gav! Plus, the way you tell Radahn's story in this is just... impressively moving. Genuinely, bravo!
One of my favorite things about how this song feels is the majesty of it. This isn't a song about a nameless undead, or a broken shell of a hunter going through the motions. This is a song about a majestic demi-god. It does have plenty of mourning for how low he has been brought, but it is still about the strongest demi-god of the Shattering: Starscourge Radahn.
How have I only just now discovered this?? Absolute masterpiece!

Radahn isn't really a saint as hes often praised to be. Malenia is a chadette through and through. Radahn directly contributed to the Shattering's suffering as a warmonger, and was an avid supporter of the golden order, the incredibly racist group that commits atrocities throughout the lands between.

Thanks Gavin. Absolutely amazing song yet again.
My thoughts on Radahn, he went mad and deep down he kept fighting everyone that challenged him, because he knew if he died the stars would fall again and he wouldn't let that happen until he knew their were people out there that were strong enough to defend the world from them.
I have the impression of "discovering" a new miracle of sound thanks to this music with the serious tone of the chorus, what a pleasure... discovering a "new facet" after 8 years of follow-ups (Wake The White Wolf 1st music) force you , I love what you do so much! ^^ (I'm not bilingual I go through a translator sorry for the translation ^^ )
Leonard absolutely rocking these cinematic shots
An absolutely stunning song. You really captured the gravity of Radahn's tragedy. (I'll see myself out)
I just realized that this whole time Radahn is speaking/singing to Leonard
Radahn and Leonard are just the best. The entire boss fight is such an epic spectacle, and this song really catches the essence of their story.
Yknow what'd be amazing - imagine one of Elden Ring's DLCs is like a time shift one, like Artorias if the Abyss, and we go back to the time of the shattering, to fight the demigods as they were in their prime. We get to meet Miquella and Malenia, maybe as a Lothric and Lorian style duo fight, the Honourable warrior Radahn pre-rot and so on. That'd be so fuckin sick.
I know nothing about Elden Ring and yet this song had quickly become one of m6 favorites. It conveys so much emotion
Even though I haven't played the game, I really enjoyed listening to that song. There's just something about your voice and music and words, that makes every song sound so close to the heart.

I listened to this song while fighting Radahn. It fits so well with the fight itself
"out across the red we rush. constellations yield to us" is such a powerfull line. it's the one that stand out the most for me.
A wonderful tribute to general Chadahn
A god once fell and started to create an army under the scarlet sky,
An army were born, with everlasting screams and pain,
The screams of birth and war has devoured the scarlet sky,
Three peoples of Ikan on one side, and thousands on another,
And the war has struck under the scarlet sky,
Gods left their homes in stars and caves and mountains and lakes,
"Traitor!", that scream filled the lands under the scarlet sky,
Wings of darkness covered sky, and claws ripped Ikan's eye,
Gods burrowed Ikan, so he never would see the scarlet sky,
Claws of Dumalak put an eye in skies to remembrance of war,
An eye now watches everything under the scarlet sky.
Radahn was very similar to Artorias in a lot of ways. They both had animal companions They wanted to protect, They both Were amazing warriors and heroes, they both Performed the impossible, both Lost their minds to Corruption, and In the end They all were able to die The glorious warriors they were, Artorias to the Chosen undead outside of oolacile, and Radahn to the tarnished on the very battlefield He held back the stars.
Just managed to beat him yesterday, it was a tough battle, but from the lore i gathered and what i saw, id say he was in agony for so long, broken to the point he mentally isnt there anymore and only his bestial instincts remained. A sad end for a noble warrior, but he finally is able to rest forever, with his beloved friend. Re listening to this song now, i feel it is much sadder than when i listened to it before i could play the game. The feelings of Radahn for his horse, his desperation at the memories of his golden years before the scarlet rot, and yet you still feel his stubborness and resolve to keep the stars at bay, even in his rotting state, his love and care for his beloved horse. Truly amazing how the song manages to convey so much
Amazing song. Radhan was my favorite fight in the game. It felt so special, with the festival and the NPC summons.
I like how all the songs you create for a game have some segments that sound similar to create a sort of continuity. I observed this first with the dragon age songs even though it was much obvious as they both had one common line in the lyrics while here it's more subtle. 3:15 onwards it sounds reminiscent of some parts of Fallen Leaves. Maybe I'm reading too much, but that's all the more reason to love your songs.
You are not reading too much, that is indeed the same progression just slightly rearranged for 4/4 time :)
@@miracleofsound aha! I'm no expert in music but I can figure out of two things sound similar. Any time I recommend your songs to people, I go "well, so the artists YOU like create a continuity for their songs? No they don't. Shut up and listen to Miracle of Sound and Aviators".
This feels like the perfect song for when you find a friend you would stand with against eldritch monsters.
What I love in the soulsborne series is how they make you feel so small and meaningless in the grand scheme. That makes you victory feel so much sweeter, when you have proven that this nobody who went against the whole world and won.
every time you release a new track I can't help but listen to it on repeat for multiple days. I just don't get tired of them.
What a great voice! I've been listening you since "Sovngarde Song", and I'm still thrilled like for the first time. "Wake The White Wolf" played at my wedding. Thank you for all these efforts and I wish you many more years of creativity!
I'm gonna say, one thing that this guy does excellently in almost all of his songs is atmosphere. Just the general sound of this song is perfect.
Just goes to show that of all the demigods in the shattering, Radahn deserved to be Elden Lord the most, and Malenia yet again is ruining everyone's lives
Love the ending half, very much reminds me of shadows in the moonlight. One of my old favorite songs.
The narrator after watching this video: "Ohhhhh"
I remember when the first trailer for Elden Ring dropped. We all saw this big hulking monster of a man, vs a valkyrie. I went into the game expecting Radahn to be this brute, cruel monster, that only cares about war.
Then I play the game...and find a stauch protector, a cosmic scholar, and inspiring leader...then reaching redmane castle, hearing the hymn of honor...Then reading his rememrbance. I remember just sitting in that empty battlefield afterwards, just looking up at the night sky.
At that moment, I knew Malenia had to die. She robbed us of our true and worthy elden lord.
I've finally been able to get Elden Ring and damn, I loved your Elden Ring songs before but actually playing the game makes you listen to them in another way entirely.
I'm about to fight Radahn myself, hopefully I can impress...
That (bass) guitar sound screams Type O Negative!
Well spotted - That is deliberate! Did you catch the lyrical reference near the end?
@@miracleofsound Yeah, the rolling 'R' in Rusted Steel, and 'gravity is negative'. You were channeling the spirit of Peter Steele in that line. :D

Haven't played Elden Ring, don't know anything about Radahn but damn you did a tremendous job to carry the emotional weight. Actually in tears right now. Stellar work, Gav.
could you imagine if there was a secret option during the radahn fight where if you staggered him, instead of going for a crit you could use the opportunity to stick him with the golden needle and actually cure him. I mean, the scarlet rot is clearly being held to a stand still already by the fire in his rune, so I'm sure the golden needle would have been enough to tip the scales in his favor.
You'd have to get him to the eye of Farum Azula unfortunately...
@@arlom5132 not entirely, the golden needle's secondary property that is only usable in farum azula is for purging the body of the frenzied flame specifically, whereas it's shown to effectively suppress the scarlet rot regardless of where the bearer is in the world when it's used on Millicent. she comes out of what is essentially a scarlet rot induced coma when you administer the needle, so why wouldn't the same happen to radahn?
Radahn is my favorite boss fight and one of my favorite FromSoft characters, and this is an absolutely perfect tribute to the general!
i took me a year to find this.. BUGGER OFF youtube algorithm for not showing me this amazing song sooner. Spotify beat you to it
