When I wrote Skål I couldn't decide if I wanted it to be a folk song or a metal song... so I once again decided... why not both! Enjoy :) Check out my new Skål merch in the links below the vid too! For those asking: Here are some things I am eyeing up for songs this year: House Of The Dragon, Starfield, more Elden Ring, Irish/Celtic history and some other surprises!
You can tell how much Gav enjoys this genre from just the comments of, "Alright, I don't want to burn myself out and get into a rut, so this is the last norse song for a while", followed immediately by, "...Alright, THIS is the last one." Respect to wanting to make sure you stay diverse with your music while also clearly loving this kind of music and wanting to always do more.
I've been a fan of the Miracle of Sound project since 2009, when Mr. Dunne first posted a link to his then brand new song Gordon Freeman Saved my life on a random page of a random topic of the Escapist forums. 14 years I've been a fan of this project, 12 of which I have referred to it as my favourite band. Here's to a decade and a half of excellent music, Gavin; you keep making miracles and I'll keep listening to them!
For me, the first was a guy posting an audio file of him covering the Commander Shepard song (without instruments), with a link to the original. I thought it had an interesting sound and started following the artist, and continue to do so to this day.
My first MoS song was Nord Mead, and then Khajiit Like To Sneak... After about my third time listening to it, I realized it was the same person... And then I went back to look up his other songs...
@@miracleofsound Honestly for basically all songs, the "metal" version just makes your voice sound less clear, and the energy depends on the melody anyway. So if I were you, I'd go for folkier every time. But I must admit that this time both are awesome
@@kennyblankenship5472 I do shitloads of layers in my songs. The lead vocal is usually tracked at least 3 times and each harmony at least twice. This song is actually pretty minimal, the folk version has about 20 layers of my voice and that's not including the SKAL shouts
I'm listening to both the original and the metalic version to feel the chilling vibes of the north in order to prepare for the the heat of the spring and the summer. Stay ice cold folks! 🧊
I love the graph that shows which part of the video gets played the most often grows almost monotically as the video goes on. It shows that the song is so good that people don’t click off. :)
Both versions of this song are fantastic! I can hear my ancestors singing along with it! .They are now fuel on my" Viking Badassery gym hit list"! You have serious talent ! Thank you for sharing it with us🍻
I literally just found Miracle of Sound a week ago and I am already obsessed with the songs. What got me hooked on Miracle of Sound was Valhalla calling me. Which I still listen to on repeat. When I saw that Gav had done a collaboration with Sharm, I became super excited. I have been listening to Sharm for years. Anyways! Hope everything is going well. Have fun and totally looking forward to whatever else you come out with. Hoping you will do more songs with Sharm in the future.
I was just abt to say that miracle of sount is hardly underrated then i've seen that this song is posted only 1 day ago and has 6k , jeez, yet still underrated since he has under 5M so tf u enjoy his music without subscribing this Masterpiece of a Voice
SKÅL!!! SKÅL!!! If it echoes in your bones in the folk version, than this version is a hammer striking metal and making it reverberate in everything!!!!
The first time I listened to your songs was in ~2012 or 2013 when my friend shared one of your songs with me. I listened to all your songs back then, I loved them crazy. After a few years, I switched to other bands and for some reason completely updated my playlist, I graduated, moved to a different city, got married, got divorced (xD), moved to another city and then... came across one of your songs again. I immediately added all of them back to my playlist, I couldn't believe I hadn't listened to them for so long. Two years passed and your songs are always with me on my phone, I listen to them often, they lift me up when I feel bad and they accompany me on every journey and sometimes just in the middle of the day. I don't stay in touch with the majority of people from 2012, but it's a miracle that your songs are still with me after all this time, after all the changes that occured in my life. Thanks.
The most beautiful vikings/ shieldmaiden i have ever seen, is in this great video ! A great video, with amazing beautiful Sheild-maidens !!! I salute you all, Hail Vikings !!!
I'm going to be honest gav, your metal versions of your songs have not been my favorites until today. It's the first time that I can say that the metal version surpassed the original version, I love it!! As a fan of yours it makes me feel good to be honest with you about everything, this version it's amazing! Thank you Gav!!
The folk song for going on a walk, nice and easy paced and good to listen to. This one for when i`m firing up the forge for some metalworking. I`d say both was a good choice
🔥🔥🔥AWESOME 🔥🔥🔥 I just love that you release two/multiple versions of your songs, I can just choose the right one for my mood, while still listening to the same banger. SKÅL GAV!!!
I remember when Valhalla Calling (classic) came out and was in love with it. Then a few weeks later the metal version came out and I was like Holy shit! Once again you have done me like that. Keep it up my friend!
I think if the Vikings of that Timeline would come in our Timeline in his Studio and hear him sing this they would take him with them in their Timeline back and make him their bard (singer) 😂😎🤘
Outstanding work again, Gavin. When I first heard your original recording of Valhalla Calling it got me thoroughly sucked in to Nordic music and I became an instant fan of your work, along with Peyton Parrish and the Volfgang Twins.

Both was a good decision. A very good one.
Love your work mate!
I would really love a new song about Irish culture like the one about Cu Cuhlain, its one of my favourite
@@dentatus9915 Planning on it!
Good call both versions are amazing.

Gavin's not addicted to norse songs- he can stop any time he wants
I just uses a 9meter chain as a belt for my panta, just on automaton mode dude, this stuff is creepy
I feel like this song was meant to make you feel like a badass
A little bit, yeah! It's also meant to feel warm, welcoming and fun :)
@@miracleofsound this better not be milked like Valhalla calling 😂
@@Paleo_P1anet I don't think it's possible to milk a song more than Valhalla Calling got milked by both me and a bunch of other musicians 😂

The only channel I actively seeked out when I stopped browsing the Escapist...
My first MoS song was Nord Mead, and then Khajiit Like To Sneak... After about my third time listening to it, I realized it was the same person... And then I went back to look up his other songs...
"Men of war and men of care" is a lyric I really vibe with and has really been in my head ever since the original song.
It reminds of Nord Mead now so strong. Thank you for all these years of fascinating music journey. Here's for many years of it to come! SKÅL!
SKÅL!
Viking age is now in metal and I love it. Viking metal rules 😊❤
'SKAL!'
That's what I scream when depression pummels me.
Thank you Gav. Your song gives strength to carry on.
This is such a good song, loved the non metal version and this one is even better
I dunno which one I prefer... depends on my mood lol

Dude, there are few artists who can do aggressive vocals like you. Metal just makes this more viking sounding. Awesome song!
Thank you. Been working on improving my vocals over the last 2 years and nailing the hard singing better :)

Прекрасны обе версии песни! Первая более аутентичная, а вторая более драйвовая. Супер!
Thank you Gavin, for giving me a reason to have this banger on all my lists twice!
Now I just need acapella version for my life to be complete.
lmao
We need a collab version with other badass vikings
@SirZeu like Peyton Parrish?

Folk Metal, my favorite kind of Folk music.
I thought the original version was okay, but when you do the metal version, it feels like you just get it PERFECT.
I see multiple moments where yall are dressed as characters from the show Vikings and im all here for it
The folk is better for knitting and other meditation and this is great for workouts. Also your song about Ireland inspired me to learn Irish
As if I didn't rock my head enough on the folk one ... Yesss
Is this the better version? Is the other one?
Both. Both is good.
I hope this version finds its way to Spotify as well, I'd love to add it to my viking playlists🤘🏻
