Your review has a very different perspective than others. You focused on the benefits of the iPad. Others only focus on what it’s lacking compared to the IPad Pro. The new iPad has tons of features and at a very good price point. Everyone doesn’t need a Pro. Great review!
Yes, I think is very likely that this will be my next iPad and first iPad Air. The Pro is just too expensive for me. But the Air, with the A12, is extremely powerful, still very portable, and looks fantastic! Excellent product review, Rene, thank you.
The iPad works amazingly the box came a little dirty, ruclips.net/user/postUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA no plastic wrap, but the box was sealed and had everything else in the box along with the wrapping, the iPad itself is gorgeous, I got the yellow 64g game storage is good for me along with Socials and school stuff. No scratches or marks came with the charger and box fast speed, and if you are buying a pen get the 1st gen don’t make the mistake I did !!
Totally agree. The new air is what I purchased, and I’m very happy with. I had essentially decided tompick up the 10.5 pro; walked in the store to feel it and see the size; and Lo and behold, the 12 chop, essentially the same size, and a sweet price point. Walked out 5 minutes later with a superb iipad and pencil. Now exploring graphic design on this techno magic tool.
I bought the iPad Air when it came out to replace my iPad 2017 model. Amazing product! The A12 CPU runs everything insanely fast, the screen is gorgeous, and the Apple Pencil is amazing, great for photo editing! Literally just wish I could have the quad speaker array, but the ones on the Air are still excellent and I don’t miss the stereo effect much. Very good paired with the Logitech Folio keyboard too. Not to mention such a huge upgrade over my previous iPad! Can actually rely on it for editing photos for once!
At 7:09 you left off the A10X which comes in for single at around 4000 and for multi at around 9600 which makes the difference between the A10x and the A12 negligible, so it isn't really a "beefed up" internal over the 2017 pro. It really is on par performance, especially when you consider has 25% less RAM. So it really is a more inexpensive stripped down 2017 model.
Allen Frady thats right and the Gpu on the a10x chip has 30.000 metal score on geekbench and the a12 only has 20.000, so i think the performance its almost the same, but you get more features in the 2017 pro model like promotion display, 4 speakers and better cameras.
Yes, my bad. Though I'd argue A12 is more modern, includes the second generation Neural Engine, the faster Secure Element, and the latest ISP, so it's not quite that simple.
@@vector3578 I am not sure if you mentioned the Bluetooth 5.0 vs 4.2 in the comparitive model and I am not even sure what 5.0s advantages are. I am told it won't help with sound quality or EQ so i assume range is what is improved. Maybe you did mention it..
Allen Frady can someone just pls do a video speed and performance comparison between both tablets? Been asking everywhere, still surprised no one has uploaded any yet.
I went out today and bought a new iPad Pro 2017 great screen and amazing sound with the four speakers, ... considering I use the iPad for movies and RUclips I am delighted with my purchase.... the iPad Air is unconvincing

great review, one of the better more on target reviewers. Everything important that a consumer needs to know if they want or not want this new gen Ipad air 3. Good job.
At this time my entire personal computing universe is my 2018 MacBook Air and my iPad Pro. Not the most recent iPad, I bought my current iPad about a month and a half before the new one was announced. I plan to get the current model of iPad Pro and top out its storage. I have always wanted my computing systems to be small, light, mobile, and powerful. And now the technology is finally catching up to my dream system I described back in the 1990s. The only thing left is for the iPad to be able to plug into a base station. It would be the center piece of a powerful desktop workstation for when I need something like that.
Thank you for mentioning the RAM, also, I love choice! I’m skipping these new models for now though because I really want a Pro and I’m waiting for next year to see if the price drops on this or next year’s model! Great Stuff as always!
I plan on picking up the Air 3 tomorrow, probably the 64 gb version! How many gbs you have and is that enough? I am torn between the Air and the 11 in pro; but i just cant bring myself to spend $800 on the pro! Lmk
Will a Qi charger charge a Apple Pencil 2? Update: The Apple Pencil 2 uses a proprietary charging method so the only way to charge it is a $800 or a $1000 accessory.
Great video Rene Love the way you translate nerd to English so I can understand with ease keep up the quality work your as good an fluent as an Apple device it’s self I’m not so phobic tech wise when I watch your videos.
We can’t want an super hi-tech feature on cheap Apple Products But at least A12 Bionic chip, P3 color gamut, premium anodized Aluminum housing- all of them just iPad-the best in that price , others were dead !
I’ve recently bought an iPad Air 3 and it’s really great. I didn’t want to go the extra mile for a Pro, so this is the best option for me. I use it on a daily basis and you can throw anything on it without running into problems. The display is nice, though.
Great review Rennie. Tbh I think this ipad hits the sweet spot. It's got raw grunt, probably more than you need . OK it looses some ram, the quad speakers and the 120hz screen. But for the price difference it's worth it. If anything I'd like the 120hz as I have the oneplus 7 pro and do notice the difference scrolling etc but it's not a game changer. This is a really good tablet that pretty much does it all.
I think you just made up my mind! I had intended to get the entry level iPad before Christmas, but my son talked me into waiting until Cyber Monday. By then, Amazon had none available, and I learned that the discount they'd been giving was huge. Even with a friend offering me his employee discount at Apple, I was looking at a price closer to $400, for the one with the 128 Gig storage. The only other option was 32 gig, and I knew that would leave me worrying about storage space the way my family members with leased cars worry about going over mileage. . I had never really considered the Air, because it's hard to find out much about it, and I don't think I know anyone who has one. Your review answered all the questions I would have asked it, and I've decided that this is the model I want. I can get by with the 64 Gig size, and other than that, this seems to give a lot more for not much more money than the entry level iPad. Thanks for some very timely information.
Markus Freise any idea what the Air is like compared to the 2018 iPad for pencil input? Is there less input lag compared to the base level iPad as far as you know?
Daniel Harris Actually I don’t know. But when they talked about reducing the latency during the latest keynote, they didn’t mention any specific iPad. So I guess it’s the same on all devices.
Hey Rene, you seem to have missed out the A10X fusion chip in the iPP 10.5 which has 6 cores. 7:09 3 high performance and 3 low performance. The A10X also has a GPU which is faster than the A12
Shameer Mulji I have the iPhone can’t and I have my iPad Pro 10.5 and to be honest in almost every case I can’t really tell a difference. I would get the 10.5 in a heart beat just due to the 120hz screen and those killer speakers. Just for reference I due photo editing and presentations on my iPad Pro. Hope that helps
Was pondering between getting the entry-level iPad 2018, or the iPad Pro 2018, but seems this Air 3 would be the perfect solution to that problem. Only thing I'm skeptical about is the pencil-charging, which seems dangerous/fragile, when clumsy, and obviously the usual negatives that come with anything Apple-related, like prices, file-manager, etc etc.
I’m thinking about upgrading from my IPAD Air 2 (16 GB) to the new IPAD Air 3 just for the additional capacity. Still the IPAD pro looks great with additional features at an additional cost.
People sleep on the lightning port. It’s old now, but it’s perfectly fine. Every mobile device in my house now uses the same lightning port/cable and its convenience can not be stressed enough. I can tell my kids “go grab a charger” and the first charger they get will work fine. The port is superb, as are the charging and I/O capabilities. They work great. Sidecar will be over ad hoc or Bluetooth and iCloud or any other cloud service serves as storage, and Bluetooth will be the choice for iPadOS, pencil, and airpods which all negate the type of port. Lightning not being on the Pro is actually why I didn’t get a Pro. The Air 3 is good enough for me, and the port made it clear.
Great review. I hadn't owned an iPad since the very first one came out so many years ago. That one lasted forever. I've bought iPads as gifts for others but never got another one, until just last weekend. After watching several reviews, although this new iPad Air seems amazing, I went for the 2017 Pro version because of the speakers and Promotion screen. I'm not really a heavy user so the A10X chip is more than enough power for all I want to do with it. But last week, Amazon and Best Buy were having such a great sale, I actually was able to get the 2017 Pro version at 256 gigs WiFi version for about 50 dollars less than the Air version with the same configuration, and the quad speakers and screen is much more important to me than the chip. But I've got my eye on that Mini.... :)
Rene, thank you again for an awesome and informative video. Long time viewer, first time commenter,as they say. I saw your preview of the iPad Air 3 after a trip off the grid and have been weighing the decision to upgrade my Air 2 to either and Air 3 or a Pro 10.5. I’ll miss the quad stereo speakers and the buttery smoothness of the ProMotion display, but I’ve been more than happy with the performance of my Air 2 all these years and the ability to get a top of the line 256GB LTE model with a processor I can be reasonably confident will last for many years to come for the cost of a refurbished 64GB LTE Pro 10.5 made the choice easy. Now I’m eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new Air 3. Thanks for your work and outstanding content!
At exactly 2:28 if you pause it right there you have a clear picture of what the 2022 iPad budget looks like with the squared off edges and round home button with touch ID and top and bottom bezels
I got an iPad Air 3 back in June and I am extremely happy with it. It's stupid fast! The screen is beautiful! The size is acceptable, as I would greatly prefer a 12.9" screen, but for the price and overall package this will do. I love being able to use the Smart Keyboard with it. I'm starting a Master's degree in October so I will be putting it through its paces with note taking, and it is a decent size for that use for the price. I just wish beyond all wishes that it had Apple Pencil 2 support for holding the pencil and charging. But, overall, I am in love with this iPad and would recommend it to anyone that doesn't want to pay a laptop price for an iPad.
Laminated screens are super cool until you break them and you realize, that it's gonna take more than $17 replacement and 40 minutes of you taking it apart and putting back you iPad, fallowing an youtube video.
My wife still loves her original iPad I got her in 2014 I asked her about upgrading she said y this one does every thing I need and I haven’t had any problems with it if she’s happy I’m good with it
@@xxxXKPoPXxxx windows OS is just too much for a tablet, the main things will not be used thus overloading for a tablet. They sould make a different OS for tablets. And I dont hope they will be pushing all service packs on tablets.
I’m still using my iPad Air 2 that keeps working like a very good tablet, so I’m going to wait for the next upgrade while I keep looking at the Pro with stereo speakers and all the other enhancements
I have been a PC user most all my life since IBM came out with the business computer. I got just plain used to the PC until I moved to a rural area in NE WA where you only had a choice between Hughs Net and Link internet. Unfortunately, it was slow and several PC laptops I tried with it, just didn’t perform very well. I decided to find something different so I purchased the new 2019 iPad, 128Gb, I believe it has a 10,2 in. Screen. To my amazement, the moment I set it up, I was amazed at the speed with hardly any lag time. Using the Firefox browser, immediately the search time for a web site is extremely fast The graphics is amazingly sharp. I am able to add a large 23 in. Monitor with the special lightning adapter to VGA which works quite good. Now, it looks like I have a real desktop. The only setback I notice is if you want to add extra devices, you have to get a lighting adapter which is rather expensive. It would nice to add a Bluetooth mouse and a external DVD. One of the problems I see is that it would not be practical to add a universal adapter where you can input several devices at one time. I think I am going to like this iPad once I get used to it.
Would you prefer the base-model iPad (9.7”) instead of this iPad Air if you had to keep this for 8 years. My mother has an iPad 2 and its SO slow. She uses her iPad without pen and keyboard, and she reads news, watches Netflix, listens to music, browses the web and such.
The entry level ipad has only 2GB ram. It will probably get slower with ios 13 and will probably stop updating at ios 14 (while getting even slower). The air should get at least 2-3 years of more updates and be faster much longer thanks to more ram and much faster processor
how about the problem of ipad pro 10.5 ? after using 1 years, most people said that they got a same problem, a white spot on the screen or touch problem . I just wonder this new air3 will have a same problem?? Because they are similar except speaker and 120hrz
@@rnsjsnsnssnsksjsbsbsbsb1888 you're right but my personal preference is the smooth display and A12 is really not that faster, if the Ipad Air was cheaper than the Ipad pro i would go for it, but for the same price ipad pro is better.
@@rnsjsnsnssnsksjsbsbsbsb1888 Because you get a better GPU, RAM, screen and speakers, whilst not being able to tell the difference between an A12 and A10X in normal use.
I get what you say about the older keyboard being a better fit for us who draw, because it is a bit strange with the keys on the back. The new keyboard is simply a compromise, by pivoting to improving the function of the keyboard first, to allow for better viewing angles. It isn’t a deal breaker, as I can remove the folio case easily. Like the look of the iPad Air, and a great addition to the line-up, which is getting pretty crowded now, from what I could see at the beginning of the video.
How future proof would you say the new air is? I was thinking of buying the new 11 inch pro for med school, but now I'm on the fence because of the new air. The device I buy is going to be the one I use for at least the next 5/6 years. So I'm just not sure which one to get.
Saradha Bandaru t if you’re an audio enthusiast, go with the iPad Pro 11… Also my wife has it and loves that you can charge the pencil on the side... if those things aren’t important to you, then you can go with the air
iPad Air with a Brydge keyboard is the way to go. It's cheaper and way better lol. 12 month battery life, wireless Bluetooth 4.0, backlit keys and a lot sturdier / heavier for balance, and it's essentially like folding your laptop open/closed so there's no "oragami" when you want to use the keyboard or use it for watching a movie or video and it even comes in the same colour options like the iPad. Did I forget to mention it's also $100 cheaper than the apple keyboard?
Touch-ID is great because I don’t have to lift a device in order to tell it that I’d like to unlock the device. I’m proud of the iPhone SE I bought in March 2018, and the iPad Air 2 I bought in March 2019. I don’t upgrade unless it’s to something else with touch-id, so I guess it’ll be a bit longer before I upgrade my SE.
RENE RITCHIE Sir I really like your videos and the kind of content you make. You are doing a great job. Your content is like that of a philosopher and I just love that. Thank you Rene, this is my next iPad, and I can finally pass down my air 2. Can you test if the sound is anyway improved compared to the iPad Air 2. Also do you know if the screen is a higher version of gorilla glass? You are the best Apple tech reporter out there, and the only reason I watch Mac break weekly, although Lori is great as well. Edit: your the only reviewer that gets that for iPads Apple is following the auto makers method, which is to have a top of the line model and then every few years start adding those features down the line.

That is really great deal. Here in europe that cost around 700€
An ipad mini 2019 as a secondary ipad is actually Great for Artists ist Very portable and the Accessoires aren't dummy high priced
I'm new to iPad and apple so I'm interested in the new air thanks for making a vidoe on it 😊
I love that old school flat design.
Sam Chiu same here
Watching it on my ipad air 3.. loving it. Waiting fr ipad os😍
ADITYA KUMAR just ordered the air 3...seen something about os but didn’t bother reading it and then couldn’t find it again "....what is it?
At exactly 2:28 if you pause it right there you have a clear picture of what the 2022 iPad budget looks like with the squared off edges and round home button with touch ID and top and bottom bezels
Is it worth going from Air 2 to Air 3? Might be worth a mention.

My wife still loves her original iPad I got her in 2014 I asked her about upgrading she said y this one does every thing I need and I haven’t had any problems with it if she’s happy I’m good with it
Who else hate the iPhone but love the iPad
tbh the only tablet that comes close is the surface pro but the windows interface is kind of...for lack of a better word...tacky
@@xxxXKPoPXxxx windows OS is just too much for a tablet, the main things will not be used thus overloading for a tablet. They sould make a different OS for tablets. And I dont hope they will be pushing all service packs on tablets.
I agree because other phones are better but other tablets are like glitchy and lag
I do.
Right like I fw samsung alot but I cant pick between the tab s6 and the newest air that will be coming out
Sadly I bought it and 13 months later it’s developed the white spot above the home button. Apple refused to fix it now
I’m still using my iPad Air 2 that keeps working like a very good tablet, so I’m going to wait for the next upgrade while I keep looking at the Pro with stereo speakers and all the other enhancements
Another brilliant, informative review. You described the differences really well.
Flexin hard with that 1st class upgrade I see.
Great Review As Always Rene!
The two speakers is a deal breaker for me. I will get the tab galaxy s5e!
Hows it like to have no headphone jack
@@sneekibreeki4952 Me personally, I'm use to it because my cellphone. Plus, those quad speakers are worth it!
i have been a samsung fan for years and i’m actually using the s10 plus but when it comes to tablet, apple is definitely the way to go
Watching in ipad air 3 😍😍😍😍😍😍
This is a very honest review. Thank you. I just have my iPad AIr 3, my first iPad.
Upgrading to this from an.. wait for it.. iPad 2 (Yes, iPad 2, not iPad Air 2) Hahaha
🙃
Thanks for this review. I’m still going for the iPad mini 5.
Rene, i freaking love this video! Glad the airplane video you worked out ;)
Hey, thank you! And for all your advice, always!
Rene Ritchie anytime :) you can DM me whenever, and ask away if you have questions!
Ipad air 2020 is about to come out and im gnna still buy this bad boy
iPad Air 2 is better! ✊ 👌 ❤️
2:31 Oh no, the phone =D
I want that wallpaper!
Quick question why is it vector? Like the squares or something
It's the vector I take for looking at items and issues :)

Thanks. I've been thinking of getting an iPad Air for note-taking in grade 12 and university. Nice review! 🐝
I like your review style.
Thank you for this informative video. I currently use my iPad for University ! :)
ProsperousLife hi. Are you using ipad or ipad air? If it’s ipad, how was it? I’m thorn between these two.
I got my gold iPad Air and I love it!!!
If you're thinking of getting the ipad pro 10.5 , dont. the display has a problem called "white spot" (google it)
Vegetta on every one of them? I think not.
probably not all but a LOT of people are complaining about it. and its probably a design flaw since it apears on the same spot on diffrent ipads
how about the problem of ipad pro 10.5 ? after using 1 years, most people said that they got a same problem, a white spot on the screen or touch problem . I just wonder this new air3 will have a same problem?? Because they are similar except speaker and 120hrz
That's exactly why i'm worried too, and i can buy the 10.5 pro for the same price as the ipad air where i live
@@Erfanfox93 why would u like to have a older weaker processor?
@@rnsjsnsnssnsksjsbsbsbsb1888 you're right but my personal preference is the smooth display and A12 is really not that faster, if the Ipad Air was cheaper than the Ipad pro i would go for it, but for the same price ipad pro is better.
@@rnsjsnsnssnsksjsbsbsbsb1888 Because you get a better GPU, RAM, screen and speakers, whilst not being able to tell the difference between an A12 and A10X in normal use.
You always make quality videos, thank you.
At least it doesn’t bend like the more expensive ones, I’ll take it
How future proof would you say the new air is? I was thinking of buying the new 11 inch pro for med school, but now I'm on the fence because of the new air. The device I buy is going to be the one I use for at least the next 5/6 years. So I'm just not sure which one to get.
Saradha Bandaru t if you’re an audio enthusiast, go with the iPad Pro 11… Also my wife has it and loves that you can charge the pencil on the side... if those things aren’t important to you, then you can go with the air
Watching this on my iPad Air 1
Works great and I still get all updates and stuff
Nathaniel Neal I have iPad Air 2 and unfortunately we won’t be getting the new IOS 13 update for our old iPads, sucks.
@@prestonp8111 i got the ipad air 2 and i got the ipad os 13 and so shoud u pal
Mine is on it way.. having ipad 3, I believe this new air will be good enough 🤔
iPad Air with a Brydge keyboard is the way to go.
I have been using an iPad Air 2 for a while now unable to justify to myself the cost of the pro. I will be taking a look at the Air 3
I want to see more of your art
Just got mine today and it was awesome
RENE RITCHIE
Sir I really like your videos and the kind of content you make. You are doing a great job. Your content is like that of a philosopher and I just love that. It’s different from the rest and makes more sense to me.
I’d like to request you to do a video comparing 1st gen ipad pro 9.7 in and the newest ipad air
I think you’ll be surprised.
Again thank you for the amazing work you do.
Happy RUclips-ing :)))
i kind of regret getting the mini because the air looks so good. but i still love my baby
The best video for Ipad 3 Good Job
Thank you Rene, this is my next iPad, and I can finally pass down my air 2. Can you test if the sound is anyway improved compared to the iPad Air 2. Also do you know if the screen is a higher version of gorilla glass? You are the best Apple tech reporter out there, and the only reason I watch Mac break weekly, although Lori is great as well.
Edit: your the only reviewer that gets that for iPads Apple is following the auto makers method, which is to have a top of the line model and then every few years start adding those features down the line.
