Thank you for the alternative ideas and the rhinestone sizes files. It will be very helpful. I am going to try this idea with the glitter card for making my own designs.
Thank you for sharing this tip with us especially me, I use rhinestones alot for my nail designs aswell as in my craft projects so this would be a great idea... Im looking forward to your next "Hints & Tips" video... Take care & stay safe my lovely... 💫😷💎🤗💎😷💫
Is there a reason why my scan and cut does not cut fully through my card stick or my Flock? What cut pressure should I put it on. I just need a little help.
Rhinestone function is an extra purchase function card for DX machines only. I designed in Sure Cuts a Lot and save files to svg and import. I know have a Siser Juliet and don't use a Brother machine.
I don't use Canvas to design, I use SCAL, which has a built in rhinestone feature. Also, Silhouette Studio, business edition has the feature and you can save to SVG - most of the Brother kits can be avoided by having decent software to use!
So are there any free software options I can download? I was gifted a rhinestone kit a year or so ago and I cannot for the life of me find where I put the activation card (I put it away for safekeeping)
@@cryingemoangel Inkscape is free, while it does not have a dedicated Rhinestone feature, object on path with small circles would be a possibility. It isn't my area of expertise but rhinestones are only small shapes of a certain size (need to be cut slightly larger than the stones themselves). Inkscape works on Windows and Mac. If you have an iPad, investigate free vector drawing apps and then ask on forums for them, for advice on how to do the necessary.
Okay thankyou for everything, I just have one last question, if I buy SCAL and make a design in there how do I ensure that when I move it over to my scan n cut that the holes stay the same and don't get scaled up or down at all between the software? I am new to this sorry.
@@cryingemoangel Sensible question. In SCAL you can group it all, export as an FCM or an SVG. Now, as long as you don't import it larger than your base size, be it A4 or 12 by 12 for example, it should be the same. However, the easy way to ensure it, is to group it with a rectangle of a set size around it, That way, if anything does get changed, you can change it back again. Just make sure it has remained grouped in Canvas first and if not, re group before re sizing.
Hi there, I have tried this method with glitter board and tried the double layer too. It is not working - as most of the stones fall upside down, I even adjusted the hole size as I found the first time they seemed a bit of a tight fit. What could I be doing wrong? Please help if you can.
The hole size needs to be a bit bigger I suspect. It is best to use a lot of stones and then use the paint pad in a circular motion and just by magic, the stone sort of slot in the right way up. Make sure if you are doing a double layer that the holes are well lined up. I suggest you experiment with something very small and work at it until you get it right, before doing a proper project. The holes need to be deep enough for the stones to fall in but shallow enough that the dome is above the top layer and can be picked up. It definitely works!
@createinspain I tried again with bigger holes and it WORKED! Woohoo :) Thank you for your help. Just to let you know what I did, I have SS10 stones and in SCAL5 I had to choose SS12 size holes. I exported it to a ScanNCut so saved it as an FCM file to send it to the machine and the size was then perfect. SS12 size is 3.00 to 3.20mm. I also ordered some HTV Flock as I couldn't find sticky flock and made my own sticky flock by ironing the HTV onto sticky vinyl and that too works like a charm. It can be re-used many times. I stuck it onto some plastic board like used in signage that looks like the SNC mat. It stays in place and is super easy to use. Wins all round. Thought I'd share in case it helps anyone. Thank you once again for your response and your video. Have a beautiful day.
Seems like you don't mention that instead of saving money by not purchasing the Brother rhinestone kit, you instead purchased software such as SCAL or the Silhouette Business edition. So if one doesn't have SCAL nor silhouette Business program, they would have to purchase the Brother kit in order the unlock the feature. It's a shame you make someone watch an entire video and not mention how what they watched is really useless if they don't have the necessary software.
The Video Title is not misleading. The method CAN be used to avoid special template materials, the kit is still only going to give you very limited supplies that are cheaper to buy elsewhere. That is independent of design - but there are plenty of free or very low cost apps for computer or iPad/tablets that can be used to make repeat shapes - which is what rhinestone templates are. If you need the actual designs, then maybe you want to spend $77 on a kit but many will not. As for me not saving money, I have had both SCAL and Studio BE for many years as do many others. They have many functions that are 'extras' if available at all, in Canvas and THAT has saved me money. They are also usable in future to make designs for other machines, a Brother kit will only work on Brother....and only for DX machines. As for 'making' you watch, I had no idea I had control over your free will....
@@mividalocastudio9366 The company did offer the original version for free, but that may have been years ago. I watched a RUclipsr who uses SCAL and she stated it was free; the paid version had additional features. I think It was a video uploaded 4 years ago.

The Silhouette design edition, has a rhinestone option.
Yes, I have the Business edition, even though I no longer have a Silhouette but sometimes it's hard to remember which has what!
Great advice! Thanks
They do so many 'kits' that are completely unnecessary!
Wish I'd seen this before I splashed out over AU$100 on the rhinestone kit.
I bet you do!
Do u need to download anything to get the rhinestone program on scan n cut

Can you still access the rhinestone feature on the scan n cut without having the starter kit activation card?

SCAL is free. They do have another version in which there is a fee.
