I used a mechanical pencil, removed the pencil lead and replaced with sewing needle. Originally l made it to weed vinyl, but works well for piercing too. Much easier than getting ink all over your hands 😂 and also retractable.
Oh my, THANK YOU for this awesome hack; I just found this video while trying to source a retailer of a paper piercing kit at a reduced price - no way can I afford Brothers RRP! I shall now send hubby off to his 'man cave' to make me the magical tool Thanks again. Oh yes, I have subscribed to your channel so I don't miss any more of your genius ideas
For the first pen with the dental pick, would it work to add a bit of masking tape around the barrel of the pen? That would make it just a bit larger diameter and also make it a little less slippery. Perhaps that would make it grip better in the pen holder?
I hate having to wrap things but yes a band of thin craft foam may do it. I still think the Fun Printz one is probably a better grip..but do what you can to make it work for you.
Hi, you mentioned in the video where you got the 3D printed design for the needle holder can you please tell me the site name please aas I couldn’t quite catch it from the video. I must add that I look forward to seeing your videos and I am about to try the updated mat hack. Take care Pauline
3D design for a sharpie holder on Thingiverse - just do a search on 'Brother Pen holder' and you should see it come up. Glad you are enjoying my channel!
I have a Maker and the only issue I see is that you would need a program, like SCAL, to make the dots. Design Space doesn't have the dots/dashed score lines. It makes a solid score line. I will definitely be trying this though. I have 3rd party pen holders for my Maker. My Brother pen holder for my SNC doesn't hold pens worth a crap. So, I don't see me having much luck with my SNC.
@@RiseandProcraftinate Thanks Amanda! If they are not too pricey, the 3D Funprintz holder for the SNC is likely to be much better. I'm surprised the Maker software doesn't have the dotted lines.. This does work really well, fine needle will produce really tiny punctures, bigger needles, bigger holes.
@@createinspain Yeah, I was seriously disappointed in my pen holder from Brother, but I did get the machine and holder used. However, I have heard others say it's not great either. I thought about looking into a 3rd party one, but since I have nice ones for my Cricuts, I just haven't bothered. I honestly get so peeved about the mat situation with the SNC that I only use it for things my Cricuts can't do anyways. However, lately, Design Space has been so buggy, I've been hating all my electric die cutting machines and mostly been making stuff with just stamps and my good ol' metal dies. LOL!
@@RiseandProcraftinate If you can use SCAL already and need something that will just work, look into getting a second hand Silver Bullet. A bit of a learning curve but easy to use once you know how. Not stuck to any brand mats or blades either.
Yes I can. I'm guessing you are using Canvas? In the Properties box (symbol is paintbrush) Select your object and scroll down to the line/Dash pattern. Choose the dashes situated directly under the solid line option. Make sure you select line drawing, not cutting for this on the top menu bar. You can even set the dashed line option up there.

I had the same intention to start with but neither of my mechanical pencils would hold the needle..I'm always getting inky hands but I'm washable:)
Nice. Thanks for sharing all these wounderful tips!

Wonderful! You may want to check my back catalogue and see what you have already missed!
Always brilliant and helpful! Thank you for bring us alternative options that helps us save money! 💕
You're welcome! If people have money to burn, then that's fine but for those of us who don't..:)
Do you have a full video showing the full process ? Do you still choose piercing using the pen holder ?
I think this was the only video I made on it but not entirely sure. I no longer have an SNC, I have a Siser Juliet now.

Hallo from South Africa. Thank you so much. I have learned so much from you. Do you think it will work to emboss with the Cricut Maker?
This isn't embossing, this is making holes. As for the Cricut, sorry, I do not have experience of that machine.

Can you explain how to do the dashed lines ? I have a cm550dx so I want to learn to do this. Thank you
