I used the same electrics in my crawler. The ESC was garbage and burst into flames, but the surpass motor is absolutely amazing, especially for £15! I've now got the Hobbywing SCT ESC, which is perfect for crawling at 3S.
It’s the way the ESC controls the motor. The noise is a by product of the ESC trying to detect back electromagnetic force which indicates where the motors rotation is at. It’s common for all non-sensored motors, but worse in outrunners as the noise leaks out the open shell
@@JustScalin Is it an important function for it to know where it's at? I mean it's not like a servo or anything so idk why they do this...any idea how to stop it or do i just have to cover it up to mitigate?
I’ll dig one out for you in the morning. It’s a surpass 3548 1400kv. I’ve had a few issues with it which I’ll cover in the coming weeks. I have some smaller 3530 motors coming which are 1700kv and should be much better so watch out for the follow up videos.
alright, I've just got into the 1/24 game and I'm looking for a cheap small brushless system. You should do a video series on making a beast scx24, would love to see what you could do with the thing!
@@JustScalin I had an ftx mini defender a while back and lost interest, the scx24 is a world apart from it this thing can actually crawl. You would like it!
Thanks for posting this video. I’m glad to know that I can use my Hobbywing ESC programmer card for this ESC, as I just bought two for my Clod. How has the ESC held up for you?
@@JustScalin LOL!!! Actually, the ones that I received were even clones of TSky, they didn’t even have the calibration button, and the Hobbywing ESC programmer card didn’t work on them, so I retuned them.
@@JustScalin yes we actually use that kind of esc for budget bl system for drift cars. Same problem keeps smoking. I wish there is another affordable esc for that motor for crawlers. Well thanks man surely a quality content, im your new subscriber 👍
What was on fire, ESC or motor. I'm seriously thinking about try with this motor. I ready to buy a good ESC like the mamba X or a EZRUN, Toro... Do you think it's more safe with a 120A or a great expensive 60/80A. For the motor I will try with a very slow 1100kv.
Ok Si even a good ESC with good temperature control doesn't work🤦♂️ There is a guy who program a airplane ESC to use those motors and they works smoothly and quite 👏 The problem is I don't know anything about programming 🤔 So, I can pay for a revolver/3 brother yellow jacket and a mamba X or go to sensored wich could be buy for a reasonable 70$ on combo.
@@cutximbiriosos3239 I think the motor would pair ok with a Sidewinder 4 as that has better sensorless modes. However I also had magnets fall of the motors, so I think they are better designed for constant load (airplanes) rather than stop-start like a crawler

I’m pairing this motor with a sensored ESC. Does the instructions for the motor detail which lead goes where on the ESC?
Doesn’t matter for sensorless, you just swap wires if it’s backwards
I seen an agfrc servo, they are great.
Can i use hobbywing program card to program this type of ESC??
Yep, but it’s a rubbish ESC don’t bother
I ordered this esc to try it, it is hexed and has a mind of its own as soon as I plug in the battery
Yep mine weren’t reliable, sent them all back
@@JustScalin it's a shame because if these worked you can build so many RC Cars just in the savings alone lol
Does anyone know why these motors make that loud whistle sound? I'm trying to figure out how to mitigate it. Please let me know if you have a method!

@@JustScalin Also do you know of a motor like this with sensors?
The noise is literally part of how it operates, sorry. You’d just need a standard sensored brushless motor, but then the money goes up
@@JustScalin actually you can detect back emf silently, quad copter esc's do this. They can also be programed to have reverse to work for crawlers.
Nice video, just wondering how did you put the pinion gear to the motor?
On this motor it’s a 5mm shaft so used a normal RC pinion
Thank you, i just ordered this set. ❤️
Can I have the link to the motor and would it fit a trx4 sport

Surpass hobby 3548 although it did set on fire so needs a better ESC

I think the ESC couldn’t control the voltage and causes issues. Both set on fire but at different times
