v50 BETA: Worms now take between 1 second - 3 seconds INSTEAD of 1/3 second - 3 seconds to emerge NOTE: They are most commonly found on Assurance, NOT Experimentation 🤦♂️
Somehow, despite the fact I realize that there would be no point to go to the trouble of animating it, I am deeply offended that the Sand Worm does not actual swim through the ground.
Wouldn't have made sense since the players never meant to see it as you noted, plus doing so would probably cause issues with performance when all three worms are spawned and going after the same target.
here is new tip about Earth Worms. if the ship is flying away, and the Earth Worm attacks the last player who is on the ground (player who didn't make it on the ship), while the Earth Worm is jumping out and is air born, if it's mouth collides with the ship, it's kill box is still active and it will kill players inside the ship but the chances of that happening are quite rare. yes, while the Earth Worm has jumped out of the ground, it still keeps it's insta kill box active by it's mouth
Yeah that’s a classic funny moment. I want to know more about where the worms go after they emerge and whether they try to actively land on players or if it’s just hopping to an empty node.
I love that you call this a tip. Protip: get a worm to eat your friends that left you for safety. it's not your fault you went back in for scrap at 10:30PM and came out with 50lbs of items! hey where'd all my friends go?
I love the video, one of my favorite “The AI Behind ____” videos. but MAN the earth leviathan is so annoying to me. every time when I do a solo run, since I’m not the best lethal company player, I always go to experimentation on solo runs, and when I’m bringing stuff back to the ship at night, the earth leviathan spawns and kills me bc I didn’t get out of the area it emerges in time
I got pretty bad luck for me its always the 0.33s fr, I thought it was like jester winding where once tracking it starts winding after a random amount of time but instead of winding its particles before killing phase
Yeah why is the minimum so low! I think it should be 1-2 seconds. I always wondered why some of my friends said the worms were easy. It's so inconsistent that you either get out for free or die instantly, with not a lot of in-between seemingly..
@@darkstormww7479same I always get the 0.33s one💀 but now in v50, the minimum time it can emerge is 1 second I think. but before that, I always got the 0.33s one
This is pretty interesting. I’ve always heard that retracing your steps is the strategy. This puts it more into perspective because you’re a lot more likely to run into it than it is to run into you
I kinda wish that the sandworm's emerging timer was a bit more standardized. Something closer to 0.75-1.25 seconds would be personally better. It's fastest attack would still give much more of a chance to react and dodge, but it would also delay much less on longer waits. Maybe this would make it a bit *too* consistent to have the same fear factor however, so I wouldn't consider it a necessary change.
@@LeiZehn-zs5xn I would have to disagree. While you are indeed at a disadvantage by default, most monsters still give you methods of dealing with them that aren't a roll of the dice. Brackens are stealthy, quick and can kill you fast, but are also meek and act defensively most of the time. Eyeless Dogs are incredibly hard to kill, can hear you really easily and can also instantly kill you, but are completely blind and get distracted easily. Even if luck can affect your survival rates against them, I find that Earth Leviathans are by far the most dependent on rolling the dice if anything is slowing you down.
As the video said your default walking speed is faster then the leviathan and the game has always promoted avoiding monsters rather than killing or baiting them out in most instances the optimal strategy should not be to bait it out to attack and the fact it has a chance to nearly instantly kill you is a requirement for that to be the case.
@@Whispernyan this is literally not true. none of the other enemies in the game outright deny the ability to bait enemies, with the only exceptions being the jester, and possibly the nutcracker. the thumper is heavily based around the idea of baiting him into a wall if he's blocking an exit. the coilhead can basically only be dealt with through baiting him around everywhere. the blast doors HEAVILY incentivize baiting. the game clearly does not care about baiting. baiting is a form of deception and if the game is focused on avoidance then there should be a MUCH better way of figuring out the leviathan's position than by sound alone. you CAN technically avoid it by simply walking backwards when you hear it, but that's extremely unreliable. besides, who exactly is trying to bait leviathans? they're just saying that it's unfair to have them so based around pure chance, no other enemy in the game is anywhere close to this cheap. it's the only enemy in the game that outright requires a person at the terminal constantly talking over a walkie to avoid. imo the game either needs to focus on that more or change the leviathan to better suit the current update's vibe.
What I am thinking is that when they are in phase 2 you dont know necessarily if the are in front of you or behind you. You only know you are inside the circle but not where it's center is. Depending where they are you might or might not survive by backtracking
You can make an educated guess, as if you move into the circle it's likely in front of you. You can also see which way you can move without getting it to emerge but that's riskier. Fair point though
One big detail is that it is moving slower than you when walking, so unless you are just standing in place there is no way for it to catch up to you from directly behind.
@@Hevensdragon Well if you are carrying some heavy items then I'm pretty sure it can catch up.. Plus if you run in one direction, hear the growl and then continue going in one direction for a while without it activating it's very likely behind you. So it'd probably be smart to continue going forward rather than turning around if it activates then.
@@icycloud6823 the heavy item fair it does make it possible for it to catch up, but it would need to be moving the same directionas you, which means it moved exactly behind you. Changed direction right then and wandered the same directionas you, odds of that are very low comparedto it came from front or side, it also still has to catch up to you speed wise, which it can, but takes longer closings distance from a direction your not moving away from. As for your other one.... what? You must realize how flawed your logic is right. Safe because you took a risk and it happened to not kill me for it, so I now know it wasn't in one direction. The the entire point is to avoid that chance, yet your example is rolling the dice on the chance to confirm a direction, then knowing its safe because of taking that chance you declare it a safe direction to go to avoid taking the chance you already took. That makes no sense.

Earth worm can also kill on the way down which is a cool feature too! Had a giant chasing a player player die to the work on its way down into the ground.
I highly recommend Bread's video on Earth Leviathans as a companion piece to this video. It shows what moving around a worm looks like from both the player and monitor combined. If a player can sprint through 4 meters in .53 seconds, it might be worth figuring out the worm location and sprinting right through it to either trigger the worm or get it behind you.
There is a clip somewhere of the earth leviathan killing an entire squad on the ship upon takeoff, not positive if that was a bug or if the protective layer disappears when in the air

Would you be interested in covering the AI in Landfall’s “Content Warning” after Lethal Company? The game is quite similar, a ton of fun, and we still have no idea how a flicker works.
I used to back up and die every single time, now I drop everything and run ahead instead. Works a lot better for me - although not as good when there are dogs around.
Is it just me or is the fact a giant, un-animated, upright Earth Leviathan could potentially be floating around underneath the map you are on scarier than when it actually emerges from the map?
Theres an update today that added two (two and a half) new enemies, the buttler (and the bees he turns into) and the old bird. Cant wait to see those videos!
I remember the first time ever seeing an earth worm. It was a solo run, and I was carrying scrap back to the ship, when I heard the rumbling. i had no idea what it was but I knew it was something so I started to run. Then, I hear a massive boom behind me, and I turn around to see the monstrosity just centimeters away from my face, flying out of the ground, over me in the air, and eventually landing somewhere distant that I couldn't see. I remember just standing there for a full minute.

Would you be interested in covering the AI in Landfall’s “Content Warning” after Lethal Company? The game is quite similar, a ton of fun, and we still have no idea how a flicker works.
hmm i’ll check that game out!
Wait, so I was lucky enough to not encounter these things on Experimentation all this time? I've only seen them like 3-4 times there
I used to back up and die every single time, now I drop everything and run ahead instead. Works a lot better for me - although not as good when there are dogs around.
High quality information good sir! I’m making a game similar to LC, this info is very inspiring for adding new features
What's the game called?
@@Power_armor_god I’m making an introductory vid on it soon. It’s called “Bean Company”. The video will have WAY more context XD

I love these video's
Ghost girl next pleaseeeee!!
not once during my time in lc have i had an earth worm spawn on experiemtation
wild
most common on assurance. i made a mistake :(
I remember the first time ever seeing an earth worm.
The .33 second emerge is really brutal when it happens
Do a video on the Rad Bot or The Butler, the new v50 monsters
Lmao i dont even play lethal company but im binging these monster ai vids
Good video! One question, what is the name of the Boombox mod at the end?
