Was written off at 50! Started training in crumbling garage lifting rocks doing pushups on paint cans pullups on beams got ripped af at 52 years old!!!
I’m 52 and obese. I spent most of my life lifting weights and a traumatic life experience took hold hard and fast. When I started lifting again 4 mths ago everything hurt SO BAD. I bought a total gym 😂 squats with no weights to adding weights now I’m able to Bulgarian squats again.
Just remember...you CANNOT out-train a bad diet. I think a VERY good way to "reset" your system to prepare for health is a prolonged fast, 3 or 4 days, followed by intermittent fasting. To take a deeper dive into the health and longevity benefits of both types of fasting, check out Dr Eric Berg's RUclips channel. Also check out his videos on the horrible effects of sugar. You gotta get off sugar. Lots of good info on his channel, as well as this one. Keep working out and stay the course.
I was morbidly obese for most of my 20s and half of my 30s I am now approaching 48 at the age of 42 I started bodybuilding my bmi is now 24 I have lost lots of body fat and taken my fitness to another level with many changes that I implemented since discovering mind pump over a year ago I am in such good health now. The best is yet to come
Hope you guys all make it to 61, my age without any issues. I trained with huge emphasis on form for 25 yrs as a bodybuilder. Female. I had one of the best trainers on the planet. Have been out of gym for 10 yrs now due to injuries. I’ve got 15 levels of fusions in my back and I’ve torn my knee 3x in 8 yrs. No matter how well you train and prepare you just never know. There’s no reason provided for my injuries. I am or was one of healthiest people I know. Shit happens. Be smart. It matters as you age. I’m back at gym now. 7 moths of walking 60 minutes 7x a week. Just added weights again. Time will tell. Doing my best, but also thinking maybe I shouldn’t have squatted 225 for 25 yrs. No one really knows.
Im 56 and am the strongest and fittest ive ever been. I took up weight training and cardio at 43. I keep my muscle mass and strength by just 3 x 40min workouts a week and 2x 30 mins running plus an active outdoor lifestyle. You guys are awesome and so pleased you know Jordan Peterson and ARC
dealing with fitness challenges as I hit my 40s, stumbled upon crucial tips in this video. Adjusting workouts is key. Embracing less risky exercises, focusing on stability, and considering lifestyle changes. Consistent sleep patterns and cold rinses are game-changers. High-protein diet advice hit home - essential for muscle, appetite, and blood sugar control. Aspects applicable to younger folks too. This video is a fitness guide, emphasizing overall well-being after 40. Thanks for the insights and a nod to Aspect Health for support.
I'm 3 weeks into lifting for the first time in a long time. I'm not lifting heavy but I'm already sleeping so much better on the days that I lift. I feel awesome. The last few years haven't been good. I'm happy to have found you.
NEAT cardio is overlooked. I'm 45. I focus on getting 10,000+ steps a day. On office days I'll take 10-15 minute walks after meals. Aside from 45 minutes of fasted early am steady state cardio in my spin bike walking is the only cardio I do.
46 years old, probably the best shape of my life, coincidentally aligns with when I started listening to MP 😅. Whenever I track protein (1 gram per pound) I find my body responds almost instantaneously (see changes within a week, prolonged and significant changes when viewed in yearly increments). As always, great podcast to listen to while driving through regional Australia!
I’ve been looking forward to this topic on your podcast. I’m turning 50 next year and I’m in the best shape of my life. I’m lean and strong. Thx Mind Pump.
I am 62 and have been struggling on how to move forward with strength training. In the past I have used trainers that would work me so hard I could not move for days then give up…. I feel like you guys have it right and am very excited to get started! Your podcasts are very inspiring ❤
Maybe you should then take what you learned and just follow your own protocol. It also took me some time to understand that my best training is myself using just some experience not the full structure from others forced on me.
I’m 65, with arthritis in both my knees, can’t do heavy squats anymore, started pushing the sled, and I get a great leg workout and no soreness in my knees.
After becoming a consistent listener and finally becoming the healthier version of myself I can't imagine how beneficial a MAPs program would be for me in 2024 !
I am a 44 yo female. Box squats are my favorite. My box squat PR is 205. for 4. I will definitely put all these tips into play so I can continue to stay fit. Thanks for all the info!
I’ll be 44 next week, Awesome podcast and definitely gonna get maps 40+ as I think y’all are the best in the industry, appreciate all y’all do and info y’all release for us. 💪🏽👊🏽
So true on not starting your day with news or social media. It does stress your body out. I love watching motivational you tube videos like yours to get me started for the day. And I love the part on sitting too much. I bought a stand up desk and that helps tremendously!❤
I'm 65 and have been doing resistance training for 40 years. Learn to read what your body is telling you. I'm still able to vary heavy and light stuff and rep and speed ranges. Being intuitive to what your body says is crucial. Technology now is also valuable. Follow what the tech tells you as well. Great episode fellas.
Hitting my protein goal every day is definitely a challenge, I had never noticed how little protein I was consuming even though I’ve been lifting almost 20 years, watching you guys the past couple months has made a big difference in my fitness journey 💪🏻
Definitely agree, realized this around age 32 and really changed my diet, it has been life changing for sure, and now aged 36 I'm in the best shape of my life 😊🔥💪🍖
I am thrilled to learn that box squats are just as effective as not using a box. Definitely using a chair when I do my leg workout tomorrow. Thank you. I've learned so much from this channel AND I've been strength training consistently since 2016!
LOVE LOVE LOVE these guys!! Absolutely have changed my relationship with exercise and food. I love the Mind Pump programs, I love that they are addressing the “average” every day individual working out for health and longevity. I love that they are vulnerable and honest with their own path and journey. Thank you so much for everything you guys are doing!! Like so many others, I am forever grateful to you! 🙏🏻
Thanks for all the focus on us old guys. I’m going to take your advice on foolin around with some box squats. My knees aren’t what they used to be!! Happy Christmas!!
I have been a long time MP follower. As I’ve stated in other comments at 67 I certainly don’t have the strength I had at 25. But I still like to lift heavy. Now it seems I am always hurt. I occasionally ask my one day a week trainer to check my form on my compound lifts to ensure that this is not my problem. He told me it’s just something at my age I will have to deal with. So I purchased your maps over 40 workout program. I plan on sticking with my current 5 day a week bro split training until January 1st. Then I will put your program into my weekly program. I’m glad to see you have posted this 10 tips. Can you discuss a bit on stretching technique?
I'm hitting the big 40 milestone next year so this topic is so relevant. I can believe that people can go insane after 6 days of sleep deprivation. When my LO was born sleep deprivation drove me to severe PPD and it's taken me a long slow journey to recover from that. I now try to catch naps during the day to counter the effect of broken sleep with a toddler who still doesn't sleep through the night. Thanks for all the info, this show is an absolute goldmine and I'm so glad to have found you guys!
I just stumbled onto y'all, and I love all the info. I've been eating healthy (for me, mindful of bodily reactions-bloat/gas/skin issues) for years with smarter not harder (weights iver cardio) workouts on and off since high school. I'll be 49 in a couple of months. I live the mind/body connection you speak about on your cast. At this time, I am 1 week out from recovering from a broken ankle and plan to get back at the weights soon. This was so timely for me. Thank you for your insights.
Very interesting since last couple of years (, 44 years old now and most of my live been active in fitness and combat sports), I noticed how little injuries add way more up and take much more time to recover with the result it slows down my retain and growth proces of musclemass and searching for a way to train with/around this fact. Keep up the good work, always interesting topics 💪🏻👊🏻.
I’ve been reaching my target protein intake for months now and I must be one of the few who can still massively overeat despite eating approx. 1 g/lb target body weight. It doesn’t seem to curb that for me and so I’ve not being seeing any measurement changes. I have to track diligently in addition to reaching my protein target to stay at an appropriate calorie intake. Now (im)patiently waiting for some results! Thanks for everything guys. Merry christmas! 🎄
My father's birthday coming up and I'd love to gift him this to make his workouts enjoyable and his love easier. And i know it'll be one of the best things as it's coming from your experience ❤
For me, being 40 years old and having a family, it is important to be able to have a healthy life. Achieving a balance between exercise and healthy eating is not easy. Thanks to your advice I have been able to manage these two aspects in my life. Merry Christmas to you and your team
This advice is so important! Over 40 is a challenge in many ways. Thank you for the great stuff❤ and for keeping it coming through the holidays. Happy Holidays to you guys!
Guys, this has to be the best episode yet for me as I am now 48 and the collective advice is so great especially as I have really noticed the affects of inflammation and realising I am drinking no where near enough water. What is really great is seeing Justin be much more vocal so keep it up dude. Merry Christmas all.
Oh I needed this! As I approach my 40s I have to be reminded to focus on the other factors of my life and training age to keep me grounded and progressing! Thanks again!
It's just mystical how this is highlights over 40s and yet also way too massively applicable to 30s and below. Applying this earlier or later in your life just improves longevity and consistency for all ages profoundly period, end of story🤝. I'm not 40 yet but this helps me massively. It'll do wonders to over 40s ✨️
It's the same as it was when I was 20. Calisthenics with some barbell work, eat in a mild caloric deficit, and 30-45mins of cardio a day. Unless you're crippled or limited age changes nothing.
Merry Christmas guys, thank you for all the gifts and programs you give out throughout the year. Have a happy and safe new year to the mind pump crew and all of their fans
I am a 46 yr old female and I require to stretch in the AM & PM, and I just started incorporating more pelvic stretching and deep breathing and this has helped me get back to squatting. Without it, I’d be screwed.
Recently purchased 40+ program… question on caffeine 90 minutes from wake up … I work out first thing in the morning at 5. Do you still Recommend no caffeine? Or is there another supplement I should take with my workout? TIA ❤
Great content guys thanks! Any thoughts on supplementing creatine while also eating 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight? My creatinine was high on my last bloodwork. I wonder if I should stop supplementing creatine?
Great content gentleman and Merry Christmas to yourself and your families 🎄⛄🎁, I am 52 and have been training since my early twenties and I have been starting to see the affects of poor movement patterns 😕, it was due to not being as present in the moment as I was just pounding the weights mostly to overcome stress 😬. These habits that you have stated on this episode is a effective way to start a new life style change, I think I will save the cold shower for the warmer weather though 😅 as it gets pretty cold and wet on Vancouver Island.
New to your channel, found Dr. Lyons and came across your channel and am now hooked! I hope to utilize some of the tools and powerful info you guys provide. It’s definitely much appreciated from a newbie like me, I am trying this whole health and wellness journey after turning 42 and finding my body is just NOT the way it used to be. I figured I better be proactive about it, better late than never! I just need some instruction bc I don’t have a clue about what to do or how to get there, so I’ll probably be purchasing a few of your workout programs. Loving you guys, very interesting and informative. Wish you all and your families a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!😊🕊🕊🕊
14:43 @mindpump I have a question about the cold water part. So I have a condition where if I get cold I start to get hives all over my body and get extremely itch and irritable for example even in the summer if I go swimming and the water it cold I get these hives, an allergy pill will make them go away or if I take one before I know it’s going to happen it helps. Now in your program is shows to gradually increase the time of cold water exposure, is this something that might help me build up a tolerance to this or should I avoid this part of the program? Thanks guys!!
I'm 56 and I'm not finding it to be much different than when I was 36. Maybe my knees are a little achy, but I still do power cleans, deadlifts and almost everything else I've been doing for years. And if I clean up my diet I easily get lean. I really don't think there's much difference. But maybe in 10 years that'll change.
I am 47 and began my fitness journey, in earnest, in June. I have been consistent and following a training plan of some sort since then. I am currently doing your MAPS Resistance program. I had planned to be financially responsible and not buy your 40+ program YET, as I outspent our December budget. But I broke down. I bought it! I mean - to miss out on a sale would be financially irresponsible, right??? 😆😬🤷🏼♀️
@bencanniff5458 Winner! Please email Ann ann@mindpumpmedia.com with a screenshot of your youtube username, winning episode number, and the email address you would like the program under and we will get you hooked up!
The sleep schedule is difficult for me. Sunday thru Thurs I'm in bed at 8 pm and wake up at 3:50 am because of my work schedule. On Friday and Saturday it's hard to go to bed at 8 pm and wake up at 3:50 am.
I'm 57 y. o. m. Currently running MAPS Anabolic Advanced. Did MAPS Anabolic for about a year. Also have HIIT, Prime and Performance. What would MAPS 40 + do different? Thank you
Okay so talking about sleep. The question is what's more important? Now the obvious answer to me would be getting 8 hours of sleep a night or is it just being consistent whether I'm getting 4 hours, 6 hours or 8 hours sleep?
Hey Mind Pump team, subscribed and notifications on almost since ever! Did comment couple of times in the 1st 24 hours but didn't get luck for the give away :( Turning 40 last month, your advice hit home it feel's like I have paid you guys and you guys are directly talking to me. Can't avoid social media in the beginning 90 minutes of the day because Morning routine now includes Mind Pump - the best start for my fitness journey. Just grabbed Maps Prime, Old Times, and 40 plus. Your insights are my daily health guide. Excited about the Super Bundle, hoping to elevate my fitness over 40! 🚀 And i believe super bundle is the one which I really really need #MindPumpFan #FitnessOver40 #SuperBundleDreams

Great topic guys! I can clearly notice changes in adaptations and recovery as time passes. Even a bigger transition from 40s to 50s
Merry Christmas guys! thank you for always putting out gold content for all ages. Looking forward to see more in 2024 🙏
Awesome video guys. Thanks a ton.
I turn 40 this year and this was great info.
Wish you all and your families a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!😊🕊🕊🕊
Merry Christmas guys, I just bought maps 40+ yesterday and it looks amazing, I can’t wait to get started right after I finish up Anabolic!
Thanks guys!!
amazing as always!!! important and very informative. looking forward for next vid!!!!
Man I can use this bundle. You guys are awesome
My right ql is shorter from years and years sitting down at my desk. I will start standing for 5 minutes, every hour. Thanks.
Just started listening to you guys, love the content so far
@bencanniff5458 Winner! Please email Ann ann@mindpumpmedia.com with a screenshot of your youtube username, winning episode number, and the email address you would like the program under and we will get you hooked up!
I try to start the day by learning or laughing
Lookforward to the listen …. Even if has been a long time since i saw 50 :)
The sleep schedule is difficult for me. Sunday thru Thurs I'm in bed at 8 pm and wake up at 3:50 am because of my work schedule. On Friday and Saturday it's hard to go to bed at 8 pm and wake up at 3:50 am.
Here for it 🙌🏽
I'm 57 y. o. m. Currently running MAPS Anabolic Advanced. Did MAPS Anabolic for about a year. Also have HIIT, Prime and Performance. What would MAPS 40 + do different?
Thank you
Needed this…… thank you!!! 🙏🏽
Iam 48 in the best shape of my life hitting PR in bench and doing muscle ups (no Kipping) at 10bf% 88kg at 6ft 3
Okay so talking about sleep. The question is what's more important? Now the obvious answer to me would be getting 8 hours of sleep a night or is it just being consistent whether I'm getting 4 hours, 6 hours or 8 hours sleep?
I'm 48 lifting weights 4x a week and running 6 miles 3 to 4x a week. I lost 30lbs with no change in diet and I got a 6 pack crazy.
I turn 40 this year, it kind of freaks me out. My biggest fear now is getting injured while training.
I turn 40 too Sept 2024. Started working out again 8 weeks ago, we gotta prepare dude. It's coming...
At 42 I definitely can't workout the way I once did. Warming up and keeping myself loose is vital if I don't want sore joints.
Watched this today, any current discounts?
