His limbs are seperated. He's basically stuck with his legs arms and head all being close to each other. He is not dead but he can't come back because he can't connect his body parts back together, that's what Kakazu was for

Sandro Anggada Jashin, at one point, was real. Jashinism was once a religion long ago that died out due to Shintoism. Kishimoto muddied it up because he had this character "Hidan" who loved killing, he used Jashinism to only add to the appeal. However, I did say Kishimoto muddied it up. The reason for that is because true Jashinism, which is a dead religion (it died out remember) taught understanding; not "I will kill you because you don't believe in the lord Jashin".
Kishimoto himself has said that he only used the religion to add to the scary factor of Hidan, and to be honest it paints the true dead religion in bad light. kids today now hear the name Jashin or Jashinism, and the first thing they think of is the Naruto anime/manga/graphic novel, or, the character to be more specific, and the way in which the character was used.

Kishimoto only used Jashinism for Hidan because he had created Hidan to be immortal and loves killing; what better way to make him all the more menacing than to have him be a member of Jashinism.

Hidan was actually (albeit loosely) based off a real world person named... Hidan. Even his religion is slightly based on Hidan's own religion. However, the similarities between real world Hidan and Jashin (pronounced Yay-Shin) and Naruto Hidan and Jashin (pronounced Ja-Sheen) end mainly at their appearances. Kishimoto learned of this near extinct religion and the man who founded it and liked how similar it was to the Akatsuki's own ideologies but instead twisting it to be a contrast to the Akatsuki's beliefs. Kishimoto even asked the real world Jashinist monks and heirs for permission to use the name and appearance of Hidan and Jashin but as a murderous psychopath and cult instead. Surprisingly, they agreed. Let's see if the Pope would agree for using Jesus' image and name but as an evil and sinister god.
Overall, it's a really interesting topic that I've done several years worth of research into. If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to share what I've come across. Jashinism is extremely hard to find information on especially now as the Naruto series popularized it's name and image.

+Mark Niño Tormon Yes. Edo Tensei requires two things that I can think of off the top of my head aside from sacrifices. One, a sample of DNA from the one you want to resurrect. And two, the dead person's soul to be in the Naruto equivalent of Heaven.

False. Jashinism is not to be confused with Hidanism. Kishimoto's version of the religion is to fit Hidan, not the actual ways. Lord Jashin's ways aren't only to kill.
Jashinism was created back in ancient Japan on the island of Shikoku, and was originally a religion of peace. But in the hard times that the people were going through due to war, people didn't like the commandments. So they changed them to sacrifices and killing. Nowadays, Jashinists pray to please Him. In Jashinism, you aren't allowed to drink alcohol or have sex (well... You can have sex, but it has to be out of love, not lust). If you drink alcohol, you must pray for forgiveness. Self sacrifice is essential, and you must give your own blood to Him. Also, if your parent(s) are (a) Jashinist(s), you have to also be a Jashinist. The goal is to understand pain. An unspoken rule between Jashinists is "do not inflict pain on others unless you understand pain yourself". If you do not know the pain of death, you are not to kill. Jashinists do not kill heathens.

Hidan was revived with the Edo Tensei, so he had to be dead. But I don't think he died of malnutrition.
I have no proof or even a reason to believe that but I always thought that his immortality was granted by Jashin and he would only stay immortal as long as he sacrifices people to Jashin. When Shikamaru buried him in pieces, he became unable to sacrifice more people and died because Jashin had no use for him anymore.
I don't know why but that always made sense to me.

Another weakness of Hidan I noticed is that he can’t regenerate severed limbs like a new arm, leg or head. His body needs to be intact to fully regenerate. I know he can regenerate skin flesh and organs but they are mostly internal

When he fought kakazu and destroyed one of his hearts, it didnt she him licking kakazus blood (if he even has any because I dont remember ever seeing a single drop spill visually) but yet somehow he still ended up hurting him. But, when he fought the leaf, he went after asuma and retrieved a bit of his blood and then licked it and used it against him. Maybe you can just...deduct that he somehow got kakazus blood. Idk lol hidan is pretty cool.
