Rob Chapman I, for one, am glad that you guys managed to get Dave to spend that much time in front of the camera. The dude obviously has a vast array of skills (which is true of everyone else in the band, of course).
I want a Musicisum-type course for actual mixing and mastering in the studio with Dave as the teacher. That'd be so kickass and helpful. Everything I've done and learned, I've mostly taught myself. I love seeing videos like that.
Honestly, although Dorje isn't really my typical genre, I like watching these videos because you're all pretty badass at what you do. Keep it up, mates.
Being able to hear more from Dave in these last couple of videos has been a true pleasure. Dave is one of the coolest dudes in the game. Extremely smart, kind, and beyond talented in both playing and production aspects. As a player and an audio engineer my self, I'm so glad I can get to hear from Dave in these videos. Cheers, Dave! Pirate tech as fuck!
I've finally taken classes for recording audio and the concepts and ideas of being a producer and i can FINALLY understand everything Dave is saying. We've made it boys
I hope you guys leave bass really loud on the mix. The more accentuated bass sound on this video when Dave played White Dove made the riff the sickest I've heard it. Also, you have to eventually make a solo Dave track, Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) style. All these videos are getting me excited!
Dave Hollingworth Yeah Dave, your playing is truly impressive. I like your technical style and you have a great sounding overall tone. your videos are what actually introduced me to Rob Chapman videos so keep up the great work and good luck with your musical career.
+Dave Hollingworth gotta say, you make me want to start playing bass, my gosh you give me the vibe no other bassist gives me, keep up the good work man
One of the things I love about Dave's playing is that he could easily just show off through out an entire song, but knows to hold back and keep the groove like a bassist should and still can solo when the time arises.
I love the sound of the bass at the end. That was amazing almost a tool/ rage against the machine hybrid sound with its own edge mixed in. I hope to see more like this in up coming videos :)
Have a feeling that White Dove might be my favourite tune on the album ;) It just seems... dare I say it... perfect. And dave's bass playing is just IMMENSE!!
this was amazing to watch. as a "lead" guitarist theres so much room for improvement in my rhythm game and watching how this dude makes such tasty and in time/on point grooves has helped me immensely. love it!
From an 80s metal head guitarist across the pond in Louisville, Ky. I'm loving Daves tone and technique. If Dorje gets to tour the states, ill be sure to road trip to the nearest show. I really enjoy the music coming from the isle, over here it is becoming stagnant with all this drop tuned and extra strings to just have them and not use them in a musical means! Anyway Great Job Chappers and oh yeah I'm currently saving and thought I had my perfect Monkey Lord model axe picked out but then I saw the ghost fret, so now I'm truly thinking on two Chapman guitars. Thanks again for all your time and effort on your videos and keep on rockin out! BAD ARSE!
I'm gonna be an echo boy and agree 100% with what Craig said in a previous comment. I don't have a long list of favorite bassists because I honestly don't know much about the world of bass, but Dave is a genuine badass. I first noticed how great he is on the earlier Dorje live stuff. But wait... there's more! He is also a recording wizard and all around sonic master.. and if that's not enough, he works his ass off making sure that everything comes together. His dedication to his roles is obvious. As a result of all those factors, (and it may sound crazy) Dave is up there in the top 5 of my favorite bass players.... not a bad list to be on considering that John Paul Jones is my all time favorite. It would be really cool to hear more from Dave... and if he ever decides to offer a channel of his own, I am an immediate subscriber. Thanks
I love Dave! We need more bass and recording videos! I'm really looking forward to the new album and I'm hoping that I'll be able to find some tabs so that I can learn these songs! I'm going to college soon and I will be doing some work on recording, I want to learn how to get the drums and bass to sit perfectly together using ideas like the EQing in this video. I'm also thinking about getting myself a chapman guitar and bass!
Purely on the strength of this clip i'm a big fan. Dave seems a nice bloke, and his bass skills/technical nous are seemingly unquestionable. I've even just nipped off and added their stuff to my Apple Music. Just so glad there was stuff there! What particularly made me go look was when he was tracking 'White Dove'. Fucking great! Proper old skool metal, with a contemporary twist (and even some lovely 'Proggy' elements). I'll be keeping an eye on this lot. Keep up the good work, Guys. The 'power' of RUclips, eh? Nice one... \m/ (:o)
Respect Dave! I'm currently in the process of starting a new band, and we're searching very hard to find a competent bass player. It gives me a newfound level of respect for how good you are at what you do and how lucky Dorje is to have you!
I really wish I lived in the UK, cause you guys just seem like the most badass people to just chill with, Thats not even counting that you guys kick ass at your respective instruments.
the only official bass of major league baseball! MLB!!! WOOO Dude, that bass at the end with the crazy effects reminds of old CKY songs....time to go jam
Damn, Dave's got chops, haha. Also - That JVM410 doing any work? I recently got one myself, but due to budget constraints and arsey neighbours i'm stuck recording through the emulated line out for the time being. That's not to say it sounds terrible, but i'm itching to run it through my mesa 2x12. Does it deliver when more, uh, *properly* recorded?
Thanks mate. Yeah the JVM has been used for a lot of Bea's sounds and the emulated output is actually quite good, but nothing beets a nice mic on a nice cab ;-)
You should experiment with the B button! make like a sick helicopter, vietnam flashback kinda noise in an intro/bridge in a song! Dorje is sick and going strong around the world! Keep it up Chappers!!
I can't wait to buy the album....fuuuuuck...every episode I watched for this "in the studio" thing, sounded HUGE. I bet this is going to be one of the best (if not the best) modern albums
Dave Hollingworth I saw Cliff Burton in 1985 in a seedy little joint called the New York Theatre in Vancouver BC Canada, and leading into his solo he experimented with some similar tones / wah effects and Lars and James created this chunky industrial machine like backdrop to his lead bass stuff , which was similar to the typical anesthesia pulling teeth thing... but.. it was also polyphonic and flanged (i think). your stuff here reminded me of that, it was pretty psychemetallic
hey guys iv been following you guys since the past two months now seen probably all your videos on RUclips totally in love with Dorje especially "catalyst" and I really loved you videos on the recording process of the records! One thing that really intrigued me was the layering of the guitars you guys do on your records and now I just saw Dave doing like three layers of bass! But can you like write down in reply to this video on how Dave goes about the panning and how many versions like one DI and one Amp and like for guitars I saw that both you and Rebea play like 3 layers each and then you pan them around so plese help me out here as im just in love with your production. p.s dave is an amazing engineer/bass god
lot of people bumlick chapman... I mean robs a great guy when it comes to music, but most of the fans are way too defensive and would fight over his opinions. still, respect to rob though.
If that was the case the only 6 string they would've used for recording would've been a chapman model also. However they used loads of stuff from prs to fender to Gibson etc etc. surely you know that rob and these guys are all super super honest. They want the album to sound perfect and they obviously believe the chapman bass achieves that.
Thats understandable mate, there is nothing wrong with being a sceptic. But for the record it makes no odds to me wether Chapman Guitars and/or the Bass dose well or not, i make no money from it and have no other motives. However how well the album dose i do benefit from and getting a good performance and good sound increases those odds, so i used the MLB because it is the best playing bass i have (helps get the best performance) and it sounds as good as any of my other basses (sounds good). I would never sacrifice the sound of my playing for any reason, i care about sound to much, haha. take it easy bro ;-)
Dave, awesome tone. Any pointers for a guy very much a classic low mid thump minded, to get the great sans amp clean and drive tones you have on the vid? I use a pod x3 live for my pre amp :)
What Dave is doing at 15:30 kind of reminds me of the track "go to sleep" by radiohead with the just bizarre synthy lead guitar riffs. I'm kind of excited to see other people check that sound out cause I thought it was kind of interesting personally and I'd always wondered how the hell to make it
Love when Dave talks about the mixing and EQing side of things. Would love to see more of that.
Check out the epic 20 minute video with Dave on the Dorje channel ;-)
Awesome- Will do!
Rob Chapman
I, for one, am glad that you guys managed to get Dave to spend that much time in front of the camera. The dude obviously has a vast array of skills (which is true of everyone else in the band, of course).
I second that!!!!

Him being so disapproving made it funnier
Honestly, although Dorje isn't really my typical genre, I like watching these videos because you're all pretty badass at what you do. Keep it up, mates.
The Tool influence is strong with this one.
That guy has a "quiet discret virtuoso" vibe to him.
Really enjoy his playing.

Chorus on Bass. One of life's little perks. :D
Indeed ;-)
Dave is the man! He could make a broomstick plugged into a toaster sound PHAT!
Thin ruclips.net/video/lCmeqTaZ2j8/видео.html
he's not a real bassist
he changes his strings
I bet he practices too!
gosh dern posers
Jack Orton ha I change mine every 5 weeks depends in how much I plau
Jack Orton He probably practices too...
hahaha!!
I will be supremely disappointed if the Korg Miku pedal is not in the album.
Dave seems like the nicest, most modest, chill guy on earth and he is fucking mind blowingly (
haha, thanks man ;-)
Can't agree with you more mate
RyuSanSama Sanchez Haha, I was just gonna make that correction!
Dave Hollingworth Yeah Dave, your playing is truly impressive. I like your technical style and you have a great sounding overall tone. your videos are what actually introduced me to Rob Chapman videos so keep up the great work and good luck with your musical career.

i like that dave's skin is white enough to fix the White Balance
ha! ;-)
Aside from being an incredible bass player, dave is so clever when it comes to recording and I'm jealous of that, you're the man dave
thanks dude
I love the sound of the bass at the end. That was amazing almost a tool/ rage against the machine hybrid sound with its own edge mixed in.
I hope to see more like this in up coming videos :)
Not only does Dave have great technique and precise timing, his tone is just incredible! Hats off to you sir!
Have a feeling that White Dove might be my favourite tune on the album ;) It just seems... dare I say it... perfect. And dave's bass playing is just IMMENSE!!
5:40 - For ten seconds this turns into an episode of The Office.
White Dove sounds so good. Can't wait to hear the finished album lads!

good god its just so captivating!
Boy, this riff is amazing.
And now I find myself wanting to learn the bass, What a sound ! What a player!
What a beautifully well thought out rig. Respect.
DAMN! So Tight on the Bass Dave! I caught myself Flinching with each note!!!!
Wow, such a creative bass player. Thanks for the upload and info! Wonderful sound.
some amazing tones between all of them...tasteful choices all around.
He has a nice voice. Has he ever tried singing?
Notice that too. Oddly british without being too british

I'm late to the game on hearing this....but Dave, you sound great! I love to hear and see the process of recording/tracking...awesome stuff!
Dave you rock! I loved seeing the pedal board by the way it looks and sounds kickass.
that is nice playing, I really got into the groove .⚡
watching you guys makes me rather a tad envious, but glad you're enjoying it so much. my idea of heaven.
I find your idea of heaven very accurate kind sir! ( I think "heaven" = "honest and humble happiness" ) ^_^
You have some pretty epic sounding bass tones Dave. Nice job with your playing style and all! :D
That BASS is TOO AWESOME :DDD Dave you're great ;) Can't wait for the album :D

Great tone. Really fits the song. Good Job.
I think Dave has OCD - obsessive coffee disorder.
haha, true
+James Lewis or just finnish genes
But, did anyone notice that it was De-caf??
Dave's got some chops man! Wicked bass playing and he seems like a super nice guy as well. Quite fancy the bass if I'm honest...
I love that Dave plays with his fingers.
Best bass pedalset ever.
Very Nice video, good info. Bad ass songs and mix, good lucks to you all four! Regs from Bergen, Norway.

Oh lawd that heavenly well compressed Snare tone! Is it the distressor? It's got to be the distressor!
Sounds like you've got a nice ground loop going on there. Good luck with that!
That micro chorus sounds amazing!

what a beautiful bass
i can't help but think he's only using the MLB because it's a chapman
