Great synopsis. Thank you! I wish my doctor’s could see this. I wish someone would film a documentary with you. You are so articulate and genuine, not to mention have good knowledge.
Once again Cindy, I am just so humbled and grateful for your compliments and support! Reading your comments inspires me to keep being vulnerable and sharing my experiences! Thank you!!
Dear Krisren I am so sorry that you were hit with this affliction at such a young age. I am 63 and was diagnosed 20 years ago. I went through hell. Going to doctor to doctor prescription after prescription. Back then you were treated as though I was a hysterical woman. I finally retired on disability 2 years ago.I still have the same symptoms, but at least I can rest more. Good luck to you.
Thank you for your very kind message!! I'm glad that you are able to have more time to rest in your life now! Having fibromyalgia isn't something I would have choose for myself but we figure out how to get through it day by day!
Yes I can relate to not getting the required information on the full picture of what fibromyalgia entails. I had to do my own research on the full list of symptoms and how best to manage these many symptoms. At the end of all this, it felt like I’d completed a PhD lol.
Yes! I definitely feel you there! And then sometimes they throw doing our own research back at us but someone has to care and advocate for the quality of my life and historically it hasn't been doctors, I had to do it for myself. I hope you have found a supportive healthcare team now!
Kristen, you may want to get tested for insulin resistance. It has been found to cause fibromyalgia. Getting a HOMA-IR score as well as a 5 hour glucose tollerance test WITH insulin could detect this. If it is a brain insulin resistance which is not detected then supplements for insulin resistance may still help. These include benfotiamine (with sucrosomial magnesium cofactor), myo-inositol and d-chiro inositol 40:1 ratio, NAC, and Nicotinimide Riboside (with TMG 1:1 ratio cofactor). This can all help insulin sensitivity and other things may too. The underyling cause is likely immune mediated if your waist to height ratio is normal. This is more complicated and some communities related to ME/CFS etc. are working on protocols for this. IL-1 Beta plays a role.
It certainly is a lot more rare for men to have fibromyalgia, and I bet that made your process of getting diagnosed and treatment even harder which is unfortunate. Hopefully you have strong support systems and skills to manage your symptoms! Thank you so much for the support, I really appreciate it!
I also got diagnosed with Fibromyalgia at 24 years old, then 2 years later a specialist in UW madison- dr.rudin realised i have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. I had misdiagnosed many times and finally realised i have hypermobile EDS. Turns out alot of women i knew also had EDS and didnt realise it because doctors thought it was fibro. Im getting my first service dog this year and im so excited.
