Yeah those old grease fittings can be a pain but there's a nice little tool that has never failed me and you can find it by googling ''grease fitting cleaner.'' The ones you pound on the end with a hammer work like a charm. I've come across a CAT 977L for $6K running and driving but has some small leaks. Current owner upgraded a few years ago and wants to sell the old beast. Undercarriage CAT certified at 75%..that would last me a lifetime on the farm. lol Problem is it's 400 miles away and shipping that bad boy be expensive. It also has a winch on it...so thinking I'm going to bite the shipping bullet and buy it. I already drove down and looked at it. Thanks for showing off your lovely Cat 977L, they were built to last back then!

I would really recommend extending that stack to the sweep level. No machine on the planet sounds as good as a 977L , but they are loud. Get it up to sweep level so you aren't breathing in those fumes.

yeah i believe im gonna put it back to stock with the muffler and stack like you see on top of it. or atleast the muffler back on. nothing like the sound and watching it roll the smoke as childish as it sounds haha.

@@HaydenIngram , don't sweat it pal, I love the sound of a 977L. It's the best sounding machine ever created in my book. I also love the sound of a Dynahoe 190. Nothing like Detroit Hayden. I just don't want to see you inhale any more exhaust than you have to. Best of luck with your machine Hayden. Track loaders are the most useful machine ever created and the 977 is the king of them.

Try removing the Grease Zert and drilling out the hard grease being careful not to damage the Zert Threads !!- if that fails is Pin Out- No Big Deal !!

Yeah had to do that on a few, wasn’t too bad, 1 was the main boom pin, took about an hour of driving it out, drilled the hole out good as new

I recommended the straight stack to you Hayden, I agree on it bein a bit loud for an 8hr shift though..still sounds great.

i remember seeing that now. it sounds amazing im considering putting a muff back on it though. you can hear it a LONG ways off haha.

Why do you want to listen to straight stack all day? Knock the pin out if you want to get grease in it. Don't run any grease point dry. There's a reason for grease points. Wait until you see how much work, money and time a weld up and line bore costs. That's machine ownership. You could be hangin' out of a window askin' people if they want fries with that.

I’m well aware what line boring costs. The machine sat for about 30 years and wasn’t used very much so a couple new fittings clean the holes out with a screw driver and a air over hydraulic pump will blow the trash out and then I can put grease in it. All fittings but 1 take grease now.The machine is 50 years old it has some play in places it’s not a front line machine and probably hasn’t been since the 80’s it’s a farm machine. I bought it in ‘18 needing lots of repairs was gonna go to scrap if i didn’t fix it.

Yes in most cases, 977L began with s/n 11k3919 they used the K series roller frames until they ran out which was around the 4100 range. My machine is 4047.. It is a 977L.
