@@chefboyarb im no pro at this game but following guides and such i managed to learn how to operate the f15c in less than 5 hours of gameplay. It's not a complex plane and very good to start with. For the tech geeks out there: the radar does not actually move. The hardware used is a phased array of wave guides. The RF signal is phase shifted to each element in the array in order to make the outgoing beam coherent in a specific direction. The beam is swept as described by Cap, but the hardware remains stationary relative to the aircraft. The tutorial is still valid. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phased_array#:~:text=In%20antenna%20theory%2C%20a%20phased,directions%20without%20moving%20the%20antennas.
Considering this is a C model, it's likely not an AESA/Phased Array. The original AN/APG-63 wasn't AESA, but the AN/APG-63(V)1-3 are. The old C and D models were retrofitted with the AESA radars relatively recently (as in the year 2000 in an Alaskan F-15C), but I doubt they are what was used in the DCS model. AESA Radars are beasts though. Easier to work on by far
These C models actually did use mechanically scanned radars, which very much did move, hence the bump stops. Some models have been retrofitted with ASEA radars but this looks like the original APG-63 by Hughes.

Great tutorial Cap. I have been familiarizing myself with all those controls in the grinelli f22. However I seem to have huge problems seeing anything past 20miles. Even over open water, civil big jets (even E-3s), I do set the range, also the elevation, (even if I cheat in F10 and look exactly where the target should be, altitude and right of my nose, hot)... No dice. Any idea what might be going on? Cheers! Love you guys videos btw!
So I just got back into DCS and was on the F15, i was locking target with amraam firing missiles yet they weren't hitting the target. I fired an amraam at mach 1.5 only 8 miles from the target looking straight down at him yet it didn't hit. I realized that none of my amraams are even trying to hit the target regardless of whether I track the target until it goes pitbull. Am I missing some new requirement that you need to do before your missiles can actually track a target?
Which can lock targets from farther? TWS or RWS? The F-35 mod that is out uses the F-15C cockpit and radar, and I see ppl in the F-35 locking and taking ppl out at 100-120 miles but yet ppl never show up on my radar when I use the F-35 on RWS until like 80 miles or so, should I be using TWS?
HELP! sometimes a series of empty boxes appear on a vertical line like if it was a target but i dont understand what it is since it ocupes all the vertical space but looks like a target
So I keep getting lines on my radar but they aren’t filled in like yours are. I’ve lost a couple engagements in fear of me killing a friendly or just randomly firing into clouds. Do you know anything about this?
I know this video is pretty old, but I'm just now getting into the whole BVR radar thing and I hope someone sees this question: If you're more likely to detect targets flying above you, why don't combat air patrols always have one flight member go super-low?
I will guess the answer, so cmiiw. Flying low means flying in denser air, more resistance, and fuel consumption will be way higher. It will make your range limited compared to others in your unit/squad. Also it will be much harder to avoide missile due to the missile being sent from higher altitude has higher kinetic. Otoh, you will also have altitude disadvantage as your missile will have to climb and lose speed.
Ok so why can't I adjust my radar after I select weapons and how do you "turn off" the weapons hud and go back to normal hud? Just got the game and can't use my tws/rwr after my first engagement
I did download the mission but I can't load it has a mission, anything Im missing ? I start to use the mission editor more and more, I guess I'll make my own nooby mission lol
I think I did watch 10 vids on the radar in f15c, and I still have issues with locking helos in the Helo Hunt mission, I have it on BVR in rws, then I turn on tws and its not showing anymore, and I can't find it, when I find it I can't lock it, there are some other modes for radar on keyboard 3 and 4 and 6 so I am lost all the time which is what, and when I lock the target I am missing lots of the shots with fox3s and fox1s, and I can't never lock multiple targets or switch between them easily, my results ale absolutely horrible, is the radar in vipers or hornets better than this one?
Hey Grim Reapers, do you by any chance have a walk through for a real noob like me to DCS via installing your missions and if you do have some experience with the mods to DCS? Been getting smoked sans that Radar but I am getting better at it, and I owe that one to you, thanks for this Sir. Really love your videos. Hope to get all of the Aircraft when my wallet allows.

Hello Grim Reaper. First I want to thank you for your excellent tutorials. I watched them all. I even downloaded the mission to practice bvr mode fight. but something strange happened when I created A new mission. I was able to see the tgt on the radar in rws and tws mode but i cannot lock them. I studied your mission to look for difference’s but I didn’t found any. I cannot lock the targets in bvr mode. Even in quick mission it was the same. Please help me. What went wrong? I spent hours for nothing. Thank you for the channel
well shit. granted i dont have much time on dcs, but i've played lock on like 50 hours and i had never used the TWS, at least intentionally. Turns out i could have fired amraams like a madman.
DCS should pay you for this information because their training missions are an absolute joke.

other games have done this and it works quite well it often indie devs small team dont have time to keep updating tutorial videos during alpha ...so they link community channels i think good way to bring community together too and makes the community feel little more connected to project ...

@@grimreapers thax but i already learnd it myselfe XD. Its a shame that the f15c didn't come with training missions like the su25t
How do you pause your plane in place like that
What i do wrong cuz when i get lock and try to shiit it shoots just cannon
I dont get the square pop up whn ive locked him. Is there a setting im missing or something
im having the same problem, did you figure it out?
What is "Angels" term refer to?
Is there a way to change the f15 radar elevation
I just downloaded the practice map.. It's great.. But I cannot kill the enemy jets. Help Please
Hey guys how do you make radar to cycle through all the mods( 1HI,1MED,2HI,2MED)?
f-15 fast broo f-15 faaast
Hey Grim Reapers, do you by any chance have a walk through for a real noob like me to DCS via installing your missions and if you do have some experience with the mods to DCS? Been getting smoked sans that Radar but I am getting better at it, and I owe that one to you, thanks for this Sir. Really love your videos. Hope to get all of the Aircraft when my wallet allows.
Im trying to learn this radar so i can fly the f22 and im having an issue of not being able to see anything farther away than 40 miles. If someone could help me understand why that would be awesome
Hello Grim Reaper. First I want to thank you for your excellent tutorials. I watched them all.
I even downloaded the mission to practice bvr mode fight. but something strange happened when I created
A new mission.
Thank you for the channel

i dowdnloaded your mission but how do i load it onto dcs actually?
put it in you Missions folder and load it from Mission tab from main menu.
What is “ that there “?!
well shit. granted i dont have much time on dcs, but i've played lock on like 50 hours and i had never used the TWS, at least intentionally.
Turns out i could have fired amraams like a madman.
