      MxoA the second test I took was a little easier, if you focus on the easy things you will pass. Remember pemdas,foil, slope, and mean when missing a number.Take your time make sure you know what they are asking you, the answer is there ,work your caculater!!! plug the problem in different ways till you see a answer .when you use the formulas for shapes you don't have to get it spot on just get it close to one of the answers . Hope that helps

    I've always struggled with math and school in general, its been a very long road for me, and honestly kinda embarrassing bc i want to be able to learn but it just doesn't process with me and the atmosphere of being in a school building gave me so much anxiety, hence why i switched to online school and it went good for a while bc i could work at my own pace and its starting to fall out drastically, long story short, you taught me more and helped me understand in 10 min than I've learned my whole 18 years.

Expelled in the 9th grade and I've taken many college classes, getting my certs in a lot of different things but I've decided to go ahead and get my RN and then hopefully NP but of course I have to get my GED before I can do that. I was terrible in math in middle and high school. I thought I was lacking in the mental ability to handle math. I attended college on the strength of my grades in non math subjects. When I started college, I had math instruction very much like you give. I discovered that I actually was capable in math and received good grades. In fact, I now listen to your videos just for fun. I am finishing up a long and successful career as a CPA. To reinforce my point, my old algebra teacher from h.s. Was one of the proctors when I sat for the CPA exam. I still remember the look of shock on her face when she saw me sitting at one of the tables.

    4x^2 - x = 14
    (2 is an exponent)
    Multiply 4 by the exponent first, because of pemdas. The ‘2’ exponent means squared, so 4•4.
    4 • 4 = 16
    Now the equation is 16x - x = 14. Last step is to isolate x. So,
    16 - 16x = x (you can’t subtract a letter from a number, and vice versa, so the letter stays).
    You apply this to the other number as well. 16 - 14
    Equation should look like this now x - x = 2. You can just combine the x since they’re the same lmao.
    Answer: x = 2
    ______________
    P = parentheses
    E = exponents
    M = multiplication
    D = division
    A = addition
    S = subtraction
    This is the order of operations on how you solve your algebra equations. However, it doesn’t really apply when the symbols are right next to each other. For example:
    20/4•2 (20 divided by 4 times 2)
    Would just be 12, and not 2.5. Multiplication and division are side by side in pemdas. But if it was:
    20/(4•2)
    (20 divided by ‘4 times 2’)
    Then you multiply the parenthesis first and divide last.
    20/(4•2)= 2.5

    A good starting point is to subtract 14 from each side.
    4x^(2) - x -14 = 0
    Try to factor the polynomial into binomial factors.
    (4x+a)*(x+b)=0
    Remember the roots for 14, because the binomial factors have to FOIL to the same polynomial in the end.
    Our options are: 1*14=14 , or 7*2=14
    We can see that 14 is negative, so one binomial factor has to be negative, and one positive. Because we want a negative 14, and a negative 1x we need the smaller factor to be negative due to the coefficient of 4 .
    If we set a=7, and b=-2
    (4x+7)*(x-2)=0
    to check your solution:
    FOIL the terms together
    (4x+7)*(x-2)=0
    4*(x*x)-8*x+7*x-7*2=0
    4*(x)^(2)-1x-14=0
    Remember, you can only reduce parts of the equation with the same value of x to the right.
    We now, need to solve for 0 for both x-2 and 4x+7
    x-2=0
    x=2
    4x+7=0
    x =- 7/4
    The possible solutions for 4x^(2) - x -14 = 0 are x = -7/4 or x=2
    For more information about foiling a polynomial:

    Another faster and effective way is to do

    16 - 14= 2

    I'm 13 years old going into algebra 1 next school year which is few days for me and what I did what subtract the 14 from the right side to the left side to make it 4x^2 -x - 14 = 0 then I factored and thought what numbers multiply to get the product of coefficients a and c and. add up to negative one 4 × -14 = -56 so -8 and 7 came to my mind and then I grouped the terms the first terms are 4x^2 and - 8x 4x is a common term it goes in 4x^2 x times and 8x -2 times so I have 4x(x-2) then I do same for left side 7x and -14 7 is a common term 7 goes into 7x x times and and goes into -14 -2 times so 7(x-2) so I have 4x(x-2) and 7(x-2) so we have a common term (x-2) and the outside variables and numbers are the other terms (4x + 7) now I set each group equal to zero x-2=0 x equals 2 hence answer c and the OTHER answer not stated as an option but is the other answer 4x + 7 = 0 x equals -7/4 or negative 1.75 substitute that into the equation -1.75^2 times 4 - - 1.75 which is the same as adding 1.75 will get you 14 I haven't even enter algebra 1 and know this from studying half the course before entering the class in 8th grade and I'm 13 years old By the way your welcome for a full in depth explanation and guide for that equation doing it the other way for a GED problem like this.

    4x^2-x=14
    4x^2-x-14=0........ (1)
    By using general method
    X=(-b(+or-)(b^2-4ac)^1/2)/2 a
    In equation 1 is the values of a,b,c
    a=4
    b=-1
    c=-14
    So , x=(-(-1)+or -((-1)^2-4 (4×(-14)))^1/2)/2×4
    X=(1+or-((1+224))^1/2)/8
    X=(1+or-(225)^1/2)/8
    X=(1+or-15)/8
    X=(1+15)/8 or x=(1-15)/8
    X=16/8 or x=-14/8
    X=2 or x=-1. 75

    well, at 48 and haven't been in school since I was 16, I decided it was time to get my GED. So far I have passed all GED tests, EXCEPT the math. I haven't failed it either as I have not taken it yet. I have been using another GED site that I paid a lot to use, but the math is killing me. I am going nuts. I just don't get it. So after watching just this one video and the way you teach the math, I went to your site and paid for the course book just now. I truly hope I can get this through my thick skull and little brain. It is just so confusing. So wish me luck. And I wish everyone that is studying for your GED all the luck too.

I know by the emails I get from the teacher here at tabletclass math thats the wrong way to do it cause you won't learn that way, but it gets to me sssssoooo much.

    I tried all of the options, and had option (c) looking like my pick, so I stopped and watched the whole video and hallelujah, I did it right. So I’m going to thank John, the creator of Tablet Math Class for the reactivation of much of my math knowledge reincarnation, if you will. Dear John, I look forward to your RUclips videos all the time. You are pretty frikkin great man! And no, I don’t absolutely need to know this for any reason other than that I am using this opportunity to become as smart as possible.

  • @StevenTorrey
    @StevenTorrey 2 года назад +1

    Just by guessing (c) x=2. Replacing the x with 2 gives the answer 14, so, x = 2 is the correct answer.
    4 (2)^2 -2 =14
    4(4) - 2 = 14
    16-2 = 14 Ergo: x=2

    Thank you so much for this! I love the way that you broke it down and explained the problem. I'm an older adult, 56 years old. I do have my G.E.D. and I have some college but never finished (a dream of mine). The courses I took in college were in the Liberal Arts field for just one semester. I never even got to take college math courses! I want to finally finish getting my degree now that life has allowed me some time to do so. Math was always my weakest subject so I wanted to take some refresher math courses (and sciences too!) before taking them on at the college level. I'll definitely be checking out your website! I'm hoping to do the same for the sciences.

    Greetings. Simply try the given answers to see which one works. Looking on the answers, 2 works.
    4X-X =14 when X =2 because
    4×2^2-2 =16-2=14. Than can be visualized in seconds.

    I'm 39.. I went in & passed language, ss & science with no studying or classes & scored in the 170's. I had taken a math pretest at home before I went to classes, & got a 144, too close to call.. I did this with no calculator or formula sheet (don't ask me how Bc I have no clue lol) I got the study guide in class & spent 12 hours or more studying everything on that guide in the Kaplan book. Took my pretest & none of it was on there lol. It was stuff I did not know & got a worse score than I originally did. This time I had a formula sheet & calculator too I got a 142. That Kaplan book for me is useless. I have ADHD & struggle being timed. I have great reading comprehension but those questions are obnoxious. Those story problems are so hard to do fast. Plugging in numbers is a great strategy but it will not work on that math test, they give you answers that you can come up with by doing one step out of order, 3 out of 4 answers are ones you can easily get if you don't know your order of operations & when to change a negative to a positive. If you don't know that you will not pass. Or you'll be so close you might sqeak by.. the teacher felt bad Bc I was there all week studying & saw nothing I studied was on my pretest.. I have the Vaughn something books now & it teaches you the concept which is what you need to know in order to pass. I know all the tricks on test taking & they did not work for me lol. You can't get around knowing how to solve quadratic equations. It is not possible.. it's so many rules & steps that my brain got overloaded using that Kaplan book. I already can tell that these other books are making more
