Mine reset but I didn’t hear the different tone you hear here after 5 attempts. Set your phone to add tag and keep putting the battery in and out. I did it 25 times and the phone discovered it at some stage while I was inserting/removing the battery.
Not sure if you’re still active here… I changed my battery and there is no sound coming from my AirTag, I tried the taking out then back in 5 times and no sound is coming out and my AirTag shows that it has no battery still. Is my AirTag faulty?
SOLVED: if you think it’s not working, it probably worked and you don’t know it. All the videos I found left out that you need to go to the “find my” app and hit the “+” button and read the AirTag on the phone. It should recognize the reset AirTag and trigger the “connect” prompt. It doesn’t do this on it’s own like when you first activated it

FYI for anyone having problems, or trying 40+ times and there is no sound or whatever, I found out the solution was the brand of battery believe it or not. Apple gave it Panasonic, and new Duracells didn’t work. Swapped to Energizer and it made a noise and paired immediately. So frustrating, and my thumbs are sore. Lol. This is not an advertisement, just my experience

It’s been an hour and it’s upsetting. Simone said to remove the bitter taste shield. I did with acetone, I believe. Still not working. Maybe I’m over tired.

Thanks man, when I took mine out of the box and took the plastic strip out it wouldn't connect and I couldn't find a way to get it through the phone settings.

When I hold it down it doesn’t even make the noise. I asked Apple to replace it and they said “sorry out of the warranty” I really can’t stand that Apple doesn’t replace a faulty product even when it’s their fault. They are the worst customer service company in my opinion.

I had to reset by battery one of my AirTags as high as 43 times before it would factory reset and give that distinct chime. Thanks for the help!

Is the battery dead? The best tracker for something like that is a pet tracker. Try the Tractive Cat tracker. It’s also great for kids.

Yup. Once it’s reset, you own them.
