put two air tags, one quite easy to find, like in the saddle bag and another one in a more hidden location with the speaker hacked. once the thief find and ditch the first one, even if it still get a notification, it will probably thinks it is still referring to the old one
i manage to put six tag inside my bike it help track my bike within 3 hours after it got stolen last week and call police to help recover my bike within 5 hours it got stolen , and catch the thief

@@kennethcampingdiary1976 Wow, that would drive a thief batty. Gives you plenty of time to hunt them down.
Absolutely the most obvious place to put a tracker.Any thief will remove it in seconds.
The irony is that their first idea was the most sneaky, although it didn't work. So then they went to the worst idea of the options they showed earlier lmao
What I did was superglue mine to the metalic part of the seat. It still works, I can replace the battery, and it takes 1000 pounds of force to remove it
Use security screws.
@@IKER1000sYTgreat idea
I’m thinking even if thief gets notification and hour later. They would probably ditch the bike than risk trying to find it before you and authorities roll up to retrieve it.
Cops are not entering a dwelling to retrieve a stolen bike; they need a warrant to even search a hobo tent.
@@DiogenesOfCa They can on the other hand knock on the door and ask. Sure the thief could just say no but they likely have a lot of stolen items without AirTags too so they might just give up the item and claim that they "found" it rather than risk the cops putting their place on their watch list.
If your thief as a stupid amateur and drug addict - maybe your right.
the tutorial on removing the speaker was awesome. Definitely doing that.
But they will still receive the notification that the AirTag is following them right? Even without the sound
Yeah but will be unable to locate it so easily without the speaker. Not a perfect solution but the best we got for cheap theft tracking.
I have located in the frame and works just fine!!👌
I use the AirTag and will kill the speaker! Your point of it following is well taken, but I don’t see this as a long term solution, you will have to recover the bike ASAP, and hopefully the criminal will be lax. These guys are opportunistic and they may not spend enough time to seek it.
Use 2 AirTags per bike. If they find one they probably won’t think there is a second
@@bikepackingadventure7913they’ll find one, toss it, and think they’re in the clear until a minute later when their iPhone notifies them that an AirTag is moving with them. You could put 1000 AirTags. Their iPhone will keep notifying them an AirTag is moving with them until they find them all.
I don’t have a bike, i don’t have an airtag and i’m not planning tu buy anything soon. Did i watched every second of this video? Hell yeah. 😂
🤘🏼
Great video! I have another solution to mounting. Just get Black Gorilla tape. It looks like it belongs on dark surfaces. It is waterproof and way durable. My bike has lots of tape/decals to protect electronics so it looks like it belongs. I ran one over a year on the bottom bracket of my Specialized Levo. Under the seat would make it functionally invisible, and a great idea!
Great video, thanks for showing where the tabs are! One thing to note: if you're in an area where seats get stolen, or if you have a particularly nice saddle, you might want to choose a different location. Lezyne makes a bottle cage with a super inconspicuous space for an airtag, there is also a company which makes one to fit inside your wheel if you're running tubeless. Might be giving too much cred to the intelligence of thieves, but something to think about. I think probably using one of those headset caps is the best solution, doesn't look at all out of place and not a component that a thief is likely to change or remove.
''headset cap '' what is that? when I hear that expression, I'm thinking it 's something the riders wears over there heads or ears , (not something attatched to the Ebike?)
Go to 3:50. He calls it a "headset" Same thing as the cap..
Then he can track the seat thief
I thought that i am a genius for punting my Samsung smart tag inside my tubless tyre... funny me 😂
it's not very common to see people with a fat tire E Bike that weighs over say 50 lbs, with tubeless tyres, in fact there are not any tires
that are tubeless with the exception of maybe 1 brand that offers a tubeless tire for heavier traditonal Ebikes that have 20X4 or 24X4 or 26X4 tires,
(at least that's what I've discovered so far) So out of curiosity, what is the exact size of the tires that your referring to you put your airtag in?
and what is the approximate weight of the Ebike, (maybe I'm missing out ?)
Thanks for the video. But using anti theft screws would be more beneficial. To be honest, thief will find the AirTag under the seat immediately. I’d recommend also getting a underseat tool bag, that’d perfectly hide the tag. They’re really cheap.
A red reflector on that little holder might have helped disguise it.
Apple should listen to their customers and simply stop the alerts being sent to the thief. The Airtag is not appropriate for this purpose.
Its so predators can’t stick airtags under peoples cars and track down the woman/ child later.
Should we guess that AirTag2 will be harder to open and the speaker soldered in place?
They'll probably add a diagnostic function where the air tag will deactivate itself if it detects its speaker is no longer attached.
@@psps6623 there will be ways to mute it
@@JackCrossSama Explain
@@psps6623 once people open them up, we will be able to see which things are where and be able to plan accordingly to remove or damage the speaker, so it doesn't make sound.
If I had stolen an expensive bike and got such a notification the seat would be the first thing to fly off. Especially if there is some obviously 3D printed attachment to it
it would have made so much more sense to put a red reflector on the cover to make the whole air tag holder look like a rear light reflector.
There two types of bike thiefs.
1) The full professionals who steal in large quantities and have some sort of business model behind it all. There is little to no chance of fighting them of, but they are also the much rarer type.
2) The more common thief is looking for a quick buck, wants to sell parts, or ride the bike themselves. They are much more likely to be deterred by good theft protection, registered frames and gps tracking.
You really need to make it harder to remove the tag . E.g. use security bolts or put some glue on them, else this is too easy for the thief. Also, in this location they could easily break them away, I'd make a holder that can go somewhere it's hard to apply force. Ah yes, and get rid of the quick release levers if you want to keep your wheels and saddle.
your video just have one problem you should not mount your airtag outside your bike but need to be inside your bike,"INSIDE" your bicycle frame i drilled very tiny tiny hole so signal is not a problem , FORK, seat post , inside your bicycle saddle , inside handle bar remember "INSIDE" just make sure it stay hidden ,I manage to put 4 apple airtag and 2 momax Pintag "INSIDE MY BIKE " total six air tag I gotta say im very impress with the result
it help track my bike within 3 hours after it got stolen last week and call police to help recover my bike within 5 hours it got stolen , and catch the thief
Apple should give the owner of the AirTag an option feature in the Settings allowing them to turn on/off the beeper on the AirTag. Also, if I owned a really expensive bike I’d likely install TWO AirTags on it!
I think the issue is that undesirables could attach them to someone and stalk them. It’s a privacy issue!
@@John64125they should make a feature where each time the owner is around they have to take a photo of where they placed it to confirm, for ex. If installed on a bike A photo with the AirTag on the bike is required to activate it and every 48-72 hours the owner should have to take a verification photo
Apple really needs to allow the user to defeat the speaker without the need for surgery to remove the speaker.
That would be called the "government and military" version 😅
but then criminals can use it to stalk someone
You're calling that step surgery? It's quicker than... inflating a tire.
@@jackl7778 If so, then couldn't criminals just remove the speaker and then use the tag to stalk?
The in the seatpost would work if you have a carbon bike. I am thinking of dropping it in the down tube of the bike and when needed have to remove the headset, tilt the bike to obtain it again. It will be inside the bike frame.
Even if you destroy the speaker, the perpetrator's iPhone will still get a message right? so he could pretty much presume that the bike was tagged and he could search for it on it, and remove it, am I correct or not?
Better to have the thief search for it.
I don't think that it would show that anyone is using your signal because it wouldn't be connected to their Wi-Fi.
@@lawrencegrace9302it does. It’s another anti-stocking feature. The person gets a notification on their phone and they can click it and make it ring. The thief will still get the message, the speaker has just been removed. That’s entirely how AirTags work to begin with, they connect to other device’s Bluetooth and the other persons phone automatically uses its own data and location information to update Apple servers on where it saw the AirTag.
Yes, doing this just slows the process down for them. You’d still need to react quickly. Or if they can’t find it quickly they might decide just to ditch the bike and move on to avoid getting caught.
Presumably with a carbon frame you could insert it in the down tube under the seat post.
Not sure about that: if the carbon fibres touch one another they will form a Faraday cage. Not as conductive as metal but could be enough to swallow most of your signal
You used the wrong screws. You want to use the Allen screws that have the security bump. They require removal only with the Allen wrench that has a small dimple on the head. Regular Allen cannot grip!
Noticed that your internal mount you 3d printed didn't work with your aluminium frame. I'm assuming if you have a carbon frame it would be alright?
Thought of that too. I think soo
They need to design something smaller for bicycles. I suppose if your seat isn't too expensive put a slit under the saddle place the AirTag inside and touch it up with some black silicone. Do this with the seat off and directly under the clamp area (safer and harder to spot). As long as it is a generic cushion seat it'll work but if it's a high end leather or super thin racing saddle you'd be outta luck. Normally you never leave your expensive bikes alone, at least I don't .
I would put it in The Handlebar post or down in the seat post where it would drop to the bottom.
@@lawrencegrace9302 too much interference, might not get a strong signal.
Don't they use something to block tracker signal when stealing more expensive things like cars and bicycles?
@@lawrencegrace9302 did you even watch the video?
On e-bike put inside locked battery compartment.
I sanded an AirTag down to make it a bit smaller, wrapped it in duct tape and jammed it up the steerer tube. It’s black tape so you’d need a torch and to remove the wheel to find it.
You’re hiding it in what is essentialy a Farraday cage which blocks radio signals. Good luck with that…
@@DigiLab360 Well I've used it for over a year and it works fine in my steel frame...
I'd rather spend $130 on a good chain and lock.
Then my 2nd Amendment
Thanks for the tutorial! The operation appears to be a success. I've asked my husband to take my now mute airtag to work with him tomorrow so I can double check that it is truly tracking after getting in its innards.
I don't have access to a 3D printer so I found a water bottle carrier that has a discreet space that I can place it and have it still sitting flush against the frame (there are some that fit under it but they look like they be too easily spotted by someone who knows what to look for.) My new e-bike is ordered and the bike shop is waiting for it so they can assemble it. I'll take the bottle holder over to their shop and they can install it when they're getting my bike ready. The only thing that concerns me is that the bottle holder comes with anti-theft screws for installation and that might offer a hint to have a closer look.
Also. Use torx screws instead of the standard allen key heads and cinch them down with blue loctite. This makes it much more difficult for them to remove the tag once they have found it. It won't prevent tampering entirely, but it will likely buy you an hour or so while they try to figure out a way to get the tag off.
The chime makes it easier to find, but it isn’t hard to find an AirTag without a chime on a bike. It’s not like there are that many places to hide it.
You’re only real option is to react quickly if your bike is stolen. If you wait until the thief’s iPhone notifies them an AirTag is moving with them, you will be too late. An AirTag with or without a chime is not that hard to find on a bike.
Hide it in the basement.........Every bicycle has a basement (@.@)
best place is to put it in the tire. just deflate the tire, put the tag in with a piece of double-sided tape, inflate the tire. only have to deflate the tire to change the battery once in a while.
Would this impede ride quality in any way, you think? I'm wondering if the airtag would produce any perceivable bump while riding.
@@bryanflo4500 You would need to counter balance it. But I highly doubt it would stay in place on a mountain bike.
@@scottgrizBikes do not need their tires balanced, the rotation speeds just aren't high enough. 11g will be unnoticeable at 25mph. And the innertube will hold it in place very firmly no matter the tire type.

Well.
I will definitely *not* be doing this.

what kind/brand/style of bell?
Where to buy one
I read the airtag does not emit a noise for 3 days after a theft.
Not everyone who has an bicycle can afford an iPhone... I give this tag device a 👎🏻👎🏻 but NOT your video - 👍🏻
If its about the cost, you can always buy used.
Airtags are inappropriate devices for anti-theft purposes, as they will still report their presence to any iPhone user even if you disable the speaker. Tile trackers are much better in this respect, as they have a specific anti-theft mode where this behavior is suppressed.
Great video and great content, but if I were a thief, I would look for anything that look's out of place and that 3D container under the seat, would not fool every thief
who is thinking outside the box,
I can't believe I just watched this entire video for you to just put it under the seat.... 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️ the first place a thief will look.
So your solution is just to disable the speaker? Been done, AirTags can still be located down to around 30cm, good enough to find it on a bike and probably in a car too. Use Atuvos tags instead, licensed by Apple to use the same Find My network but half the price and don’t have the same precision locating capability, only good down to a couple of meters, still good enough to locate an object as big as a bike but not good enough to find the tag itself if the speaker is disabled.
Personally I think it’s ridiculous that anyone should have to go to these lengths to use a tracker that has been purposefully designed to tell people it’s tracking them, it’s nonsensical and removes the most basic functionality of the technology, but that’s the world we live in.
The way I see it AirTags are only good for recovering stolen property for a short period of time after it is stolen or ditched.
The AirTag presence should have the ability to only being identified by the owner’s phone!
The whole point is that people have been using AirTags to stalk others, so no.
If I were desperate to steal a bike, a notification from an airtag would have made me locate it and get rid of it despite the fact that the airtag was silenced. I reckon even thiefs have enough brains to do the thinking.... thus airtags are kind of useless for bike protection imao
The notification to the thief ruins the usefulness of this tag. He will simply move away from populated areas and eventually find the tag.
Maybe there is a better tracker to use other than the airtag then. It would be a better bet because those trackers have to be found physically in most cases.
Has anyone considered the ability to disassemble a certain kind of pedal, place the airtag or whatever and reassemble it ? I would think pedals are kind of universal
so just finding a certain brand that has enough of a gap somewhere,
A bike pedal with an airtag holder inside would be a genius idea!
The bttom of the suspension seat post I thought was a really great idea as well, but while some people say on there Ebike it works without signal interference, the RUclipsr uploader said that would not work, so at this very moment, I happen to be noticing a carbon fiber frame Ebike, I'll provide the link, (just thinking out loud for some who think this type of lighter frame might not block the bluetooth signal due to it's thinner material? ) no idea if that makes any sense, because while the frames are lighter, maybe that offers no advantage when it comes to signal blocking, anyway, very unqiue bike in the under 1,000 range because of the 20AMP battery, ruclips.net/video/r8JCXfpje-s/видео.html
@@flolou8496 I got a carbon frame, I will try to stick it in there and report back when I get my AirTag in the mail
cool, here is another dumb idea, I just thought about, (under one of the front or backtire fenders?) if the back of the airtag can't have crazy glue or superglue applied directly to it, maybe it could go inside of some type of other tiny plastic or metal container that could have glue applied to its surface, (you know like those cheap magnetic key containers, people slide under the car (especiall if you upgrade to metal fenders) whathever the best approach would be the important thing to worry about is how well it's hidden probably at the middle of the fender in something black so it's maybe camouglaged by the all black fender, But if metal fenders interfere with any tracking signal than switch it to a plastic fender. For maximum adhesiion I would apply several layers of glue on a table, or if your really handy, try and solder or hotglue it to the plastic fender. Obviously you'de want to test the adhesion and be prepared to lose the airtag in the street or offroad, as your going through the ''testing stage'' of this idea. I've heard of people even installing two or three of them on the same bike.
Also don't foget even if Iphone's were 75% of the smartphone market (which the are not!) you still have a 25% chance of zero recovery unless you employ Android tracking devices as well, I'm wondering if the seat post blocking is greater or lesser with Non Apple Airtag trackers as well ??
Do you have the file for the air tag car you made with 3 d printer how to make one ?
Good thing you had your safety glasses on.🙄
People will find this immediately
You can locate it with an Android phone😂
It tells Android users as well and you can also make it ping
Even if you deactivate the speaker once thief gets notification how difficult is to find the Air tag on a bike. in less than one minute
No, no! This is the only way to find a bike with playing the sound when needed. In Oulu Finland we have a group which tracks stolen bikes. They have about 2000 bikes record in a year getting them back! Favorite thing is to locate bikes and play sound in front of some locked door and call cops. The group works with a lot of people in Facebook and social media. If someone sees something, volunteers sends a message to the group with photos etc. The group already know all the places where to look at when the bike theft happens. Amazing group indeed.
Consider using a Tile. It has somewhat less coverage, but does not notify the thief.
Ooh 🤔
poor tracking lost my keys and had a awful experience finding it never again
Inside the frame would work if you had a carbon bike no?
very good video clear and concise . however if and when you do locate your bike ,you had better take some muscle with you in case a confrontation erupts or the police , but it's highly unlikely that the police will show up ,so you are on your own .
0:18 "Impossible to locate it"? It still gives a message to say you're being tracked though, and then they can look for the tag 🫤
I have found my kid's bike twice with the airtag on it. Both times, homeless people stole it and kept it for about a week.
I see many Airtag helps people to recover the stolen stuff. If you are lucky 1/10000 change, might help, but don’t fall for this trick. It won’t work. You guys need to understand how AirTag works first
He'll still see the notification and will just search the bike thoroughly
I’m new to air tags and I bought 4 of them thinking that those air tags only alerted YOU when your scooter bike or whatever is stolen.
So, for what I’m finding out here, what good does it do when you have to modify the air tags and even then the thief gets notified that the item has an air tag in there?
Totally disappointed with this kind of bs on apple’s design of the air tags.
And they are NOT cheap either.
WTF!
Thanks for making this great video on how to cut your finger off with a razor blade. JK, I'm fine.
This is insidious. There's a reason why people should be able to know if someone is tracking them So Airtags are for when you lose things, not for when things are stolen. The theif is just going to ditch the bike anyway. It's not like it makes sense for you to go confront the theif. What you are doing is enabling people to stalk someone.
Solution is to always use one for iOS and one for Android (for example the new Moto tag or similar). Chances is that the thief will remove the first one thinking he is therefore safe, without releasing there is a second tracker (people tend to have one phone with them)
An AirTag isn’t effective for recovering a stolen bike because it lacks real-time tracking and can be easily detected and removed by thieves.
Bluetooth chips are so cheap it's scary. Apple makes so much profit on those. They cost almost nothing to produce nowadays.
I taped mine under one of the bike fenders with some gorilla tape and removed the speaker. Works perfectly :)
easy to find and disable. Not a good place. Show better placement.. Inside tire? Inside handlebar ?
MucOff now makes one that fits on the end of a valve stem inside a tubeless tire. I wonder if your seat tube holder would work inside a carbon fiber frame?

Google and Apple now both support reporting of any compatible brand of tracker. It's important for anyone to know if a tracker is following them that they don't own. It's a safety feature that both companies agree with.

I have removed the speaker as per the instructions, but if I make the AirTag chime I can still hear it albeit very faintly. I've tested this several times. Maybe something inside still acts as a (poor) speaker even when the real one is removed?
Yes. Just remove the thin copper wire that causes the sound. There are RUclips videos for that. I just did it to mine. No sound and location still works.

It's pretty obvious that the thing that has no functionality for the seat is a tracker. 🤣

My air tag keeps telling me it’s with me at all times. This doesn’t seem right?
Remove the speaker does not stop them getting the alert message
But surely they still get the notification to say there is a tag on the bike.
I agree with others; a little overboard. There are only so many locations an airtag can be hidden on a bicycle. Disabling the chime won't get you much more time. Once I knew there was an airtag it would probably take me only a few minutes to find it. Overkill might be a better option. Locating and removing five airtags might take the better part of half an hour.

About "if i were a thief, i would locate it directly" comments: You know, thieves aren't always so brilliant as you may think. Many times they are recruited from the dumbest part of imigrant/refugee society by a local gangsta, specially in big cities with thousands of bikes. Believe me, i know what i'm saying, i live in Netherlands.
It is still possible to locate AirTag using precise finding (available on iPhone11 and later).
Actually it is possible to create an AirTag clone tracker which will be not detectable by phones automatically (iPhone will not notify you).
So it there are significant demand it is possible to start manufacturing.
I tried inside the stem but I failed to make contact with a phone. Down the seat tube works if the post is big enough, 27.2 won't work. Hiden isnide the steer tube would work but it was too small to fit down the tube and inside the headset also prevented contact.
If I’d be a thief after receiving notification a would lose saddle, bell, bottle holder, all the lights and reflectors. Tooks 20 secs and eliminates all of those “inconspicuous” options. And I still left with the bike which is most valuable thing.
I believe the only real option is under or inside the rear tire.
Great now 376,000 people know exactly where to look for an AirTag. But I get it great video. I never knew how to do that. Thank you.

Congratulations! You have all just given a training class to bike thieves on how to find and steal bikes with AirTags.
If the thief knows there is an air tag because he gets notified then the lack of sound is not going to prevent him from finding it. Your location under the seat is lame; it would be the first place to look for it.
