Just having a Samsung device, does not mean automatically registered in Samsung Find My Network (I meant Phone/Tablet/book). Had to register in the network to relay the phone's location (can also use fixed device like TV or so). I think i case the location is shared by multiple devices simultaneously . Then onlythe precise location can be known
That was a fun video. It just shows that the tags themselves, whether airtag or smarttag2, do the exact same thing. The success totally depends on by passers and the brand phone they are carrying for relaying the tag position their phone has picked up from the tag. A con for the smarttag is that a by passers Samsung phone only relays the tag position if they have the smartthings app installed. It wasn’t installed on mine by default.
Is he trying to use an iphone to track the Samsung tracker!? I believe they only work with certain Samsung phones ..This is an iphone tag commercial 😂😂😂
I have the Samsung Galaxy smartphone. And I have the brand new Samsung tracker. And it works perfectly fine. Have no problems with it. I love it. I'm from U.S Michigan
Ive got dozens of Smart Tags (old version) and a few of the new and all worked perfect even outside the EU (I travel a lot) so there was something wrong at the start. I lost the keys 2 times and I found them thanks to the tag. And also use the tag to locate where I parked my cars, cause sometimes I go for a long time without using them, and I always know where they are, and even if someone has used any of them because of the 7 day location history.... So... Smart tags are worth it, they work as they're intended, and will help you when you need them.
People dont get how this works... You dont need other's to install the app, just have "offline search: enabled in the settings. The phone asks you first time setting it up, if you turn it on your phone will ping tags and other devices and it also allows you to track your own phone if it ever gets lost without data, but i assume in the UK most people have iPhones and the Samsung users didnt turn it on un their settings. This would surely be very different in South Korea 😂

I think it would have been helpful to see if the NFC feature worked once you were in the immediate area. I want to buy the Samsung tag but I need to know it works
For the Samsung one once you are near you can actually search using your phone and it will connect to the tag as long as you are very near Another factor to consider is that maybe people around that areas was using iPhones instead of a Samsung Phones
A lot of people have samsung phones, the issue is you have millions of Samsung phones but probably less then 0.5% opt-in into the Samsung offline network (every phone I have touched the offline finding hasn't been enabled) and it is most likely technically enabled phone users who have only enabled it unlike apple, samsung doesn't enable offline finding by default when setting the phone up (samsung needs to change it so it's opt-out not opt-in as that popup shows up 1-2 days after phone setup and your only offered it once, after that you have to go through 5-6 sub menus to get to the toggle switch to turn offline finding on)
I know this is a completely separate thing I dropped 1 of my Galaxy Bud pro2 while I was out in town when I realised it was gone checked the smart things app which gave me it's last known location connected to the phone backtracked in my wheelchair and there it was exactly where the app said it was.
I live in Florida and my galaxy buds pro fell out of there case on the st Pete pier. I didn't know until a few hours later. I hade to drive over 40 minutes away to get them. They track well since the pier was closed and there was only a few people sweeping the parking lot.
Woo another IRL video, shocked at how late Samsung finally pinged an update, If GB kept moving you probably would've been searching all day with those late pings
I recently bought smarttag, i gave it to my boyfriend and told him to go somewhere. The tag showed where he is 40 minutes after he left me. It's useless most of the time and there are some reasons. First of all, those who are buying Samsung they like the fact that they can control their phone. So most of the samsung's phone users have their phone's nearby device scanning option off. Or they usually turn off their bluetooth and this feature on samsung got out recently. But usually apple phone users don't have much control on their phone so all phones mostly do the same thing in finding nearby devices. So, I do ask samsung users to turn on the feature of "nearby device scanning" on in their phone. 😊
Lol they barely know how to use these tags. There's something called search nearby which will let you know whether you are walking in the right direction or not.
@@AlexGillon Not necessarily! Once you get to the area, you can click the nearby search, and it'll search for 5 minutes while you move around, which will make the tag easier to find. Then, you'll get a notification when you get within the Bluetooth range and this can help you detect it faster. You were nearby the location, so, it could've been activated to lacate it faster. This is what Samsung says on their website. "Search nearby: once you tap Search nearby, your phone will start searching for your SmartTag. Once found, you will be shown the strength of the SmartTag's signal. The green area will get bigger the closer you are to the SmartTag as the signal will get stronger."
I see alot of mad Samsung users in the comments. But to be completely honest, it depends 100% on who happens to pass by with a compatible phone. That's it. Luck of the draw. In this particular test, it just happened that someone in the restaurant or on the patio had an iphone. I'm an iphone guy, but I wouldn't say either one is necessarily "better" than the other. They do the same damn thing, and it's mostly blind luck. Either one could ping faster on any given day depending on who walks past. Just saying.
Totally agreed. I think the issue people have is that this video is very flawed and doesn't give the proper analysis. Your simple response is more informative than this whole video. When Google implements their own tracker it'll have the biggest user base of any tracker on the market. Android is the most used OS in the world and it will ping off Samsung phones in addition to any other Android phone. That's the biggest advantage right there but to your point yes it still comes down to luck
really tough for samsung, not only it needs another samsung phone but also to have the smart things enabled? I know many people with samsung phones but no one uses that app.
Bro said, Samsung ping once. In the video, it ping twice and at the cafe he was at was so accurate! The bias is real on this one! Sound is louder on samsung tag

Galaxy Smart Tag works within Bluetooth range and beyond that range, the tag must be near to any other Samsung phone (probably in public) to make it possible.
@@supernova82 probably there was more samsung phones on the area than iphones, but the thing is all the sets that the tag need to work properly doesnt come as default on any phone and most of the users doesnt seem to be very interested on this so they wont turn on or install anything, while Apple make all that sets as default in order to the airtag work properly, so users dont need to turn on anything or install anything, thats the big difference, and thats why airtag has no rival yet.
@@christophergarcia1154 Samsung users don't have to install anything in order to get the tag to work. The phone detects the tag automatically and you just have to go through the set up process just like with airtags. @@christophergarcia1154 That is a good point. Another thing to consider is the usage of Samsung vs iPhone in the particular area where you are traveling. The places where I usually travel have mostly Samsung or Android users. I think the safest bet is to use both trackers. Although I wish to have a chepaer GPS tracker with a global SIM card.
That's because so many iphine user installed find my app in their phine and the usually turn bluetooth on (user airpods or apple watch) That's why apple airtags can send more ping
I dont think they intentionally skewed this test but as others pointed out the apple watch being worn by the person being chased probably assisted the airtag. I am debating getting one to put on my scooter because of the high level theft of them living in the city i am in, this is the only video i seen where the apple air tag out performed the samsung tag also seeing it perform this poorly is a red flag for me something seems a little bit off... judging by his language he uses "just to be fair to the samsung tag" seems to have implied bias of the product...
In contrast to Apple AirTag's reliance on nearby Apple devices, Samsung's tracking technology utilizes the Android ecosystem, creating a mesh network with any nearby Android devices for location updates. While Android boasts a vast network globally, regions with fewer Android devices may experience limited location updates. Consequently, in areas with a higher concentration of Samsung devices, such as parts of Asia, Africa, and Australia, Samsung's tracking device may offer enhanced precision and functionality due to increased compatibility with local Android devices.

I bought 2 x of these new Samsung tags, and the experience has been highly disappointing. I already had to replace the batteries 3 x times in 6 weeks, and it would search for the tags whilst they are laying right next to my Galaxy S23 Ultra. I did not expect such poor quality from a Samsung product, and would not recommend it.
It doesnt matter how much better and accurate the Samsung one if the requirements for it to ping the tag are so rare, I know so many people that have a Samsung and none of them have the Smarttag app installed so makes the tag useless.
You dont need the app, it is in the system settings called "offline finding". Most have it disabled i assume because of privacy and battery but of course in iPhones apple decides whats on and whats not lol
@ArdaSReal Research before coment naively, you can also disable in IPhone, the thing is, and IPhone user is also less likely messing around in the settings app, if you normally turn off the Bluetooth in the toggle in notifications panel that just turns it off for a couple of hours, you have to enter settings to completely disable Bluetooth, and for having the Bluetooth on in IPhone the tracker works, instead in Android you can have the Bluetooth on but not the tracking option, and a lot of people disable it cause of battery life, not matter how much more features the smarttag may have, the larger user base in Airtags means they going to be better at tracking
I am from Mozambique, bought 2 of these, and the result was very disappointing. Can't track anything outdoor, I ended up tracking my keys at home, as I often lose them 😢😢😢😢
Well they rely on other samsung phones being near them and if you live somwhere where there aren't many samsung users it wont work as well. Also samsung doesnt automatically turn it on for every phone because many people dont want it and dont use it, so apple definitely has an advantage. I dont know the situation in Mozambique but it would be very interesting to test this all over, im sure in Korea you get the best samsung results and in the US the best apple results
What phone does the person being tracked have? He has an apple watch so he probably has an iPhone with him giving his apple tag a major unfair advantage. @@techholidays8560the user has to opt-in into the Samsung offline network (it only pops up once after 1-2 days you setup New phone if you dismiss it the phone offline network is unavailable for other users to use passively unless the user goes though 4-5 submenus to enable it witch an avg user won't do and won't be aware of to do anyway)
IPhone and iPad when you setup and log into Apple account it by default enables find my device and offline finding by default
Samsung needs to change it to be enabled by defualt when phone is setup and logged into Samsung account (like apple) it should part of the Samsung account login process and be pre ticked by default, not after witch the user will dismiss
Poor GB sitting outside so you could find him 😂 great vid mate
Congrats to GB for entering the friendzone of Alex Gillon
You lost me at "we've only got oat milk.."
Isn't it depends on the luck? If there are an iPhone near by, the air tag will ping. If there Samsung device near by, Samsung tag will ping.
That's exactly how it works. The more user of samsung in a community, the faster the smarttag pings. And so it would for apple.
I've seen several videos comparing these two. In all of them the smart tags update more accurately and more often than the airtags.
I have the Samsung Galaxy smartphone. And I have the brand new Samsung tracker. And it works perfectly fine. Have no problems with it. I love it. I'm from U.S Michigan
Alex Gillon doing semi-product reviews. You love to see it.
This would surely be very different in South Korea 😂
this is the most useless bt tracking test I have ever seen lol. the only value here is the entertainment value of listening to mr headlamp yabber non stop for 10 minutes on a goose chase
By default Samsung phones don't have the UW turned on. If everyone turned it on boom
I think it would have been helpful to see if the NFC feature worked once you were in the immediate area. I want to buy the Samsung tag but I need to know it works
For the Samsung one once you are near you can actually search using your phone and it will connect to the tag as long as you are very near
Another factor to consider is that maybe people around that areas was using iPhones instead of a Samsung Phones
A lot of people have samsung phones, the issue is you have millions of Samsung phones but probably less then 0.5% opt-in into the Samsung offline network (every phone I have touched the offline finding hasn't been enabled) and it is most likely technically enabled phone users who have only enabled it
unlike apple, samsung doesn't enable offline finding by default when setting the phone up (samsung needs to change it so it's opt-out not opt-in as that popup shows up 1-2 days after phone setup and your only offered it once, after that you have to go through 5-6 sub menus to get to the toggle switch to turn offline finding on)
I know this is a completely separate thing
I dropped 1 of my Galaxy Bud pro2 while I was out in town when I realised it was gone checked the smart things app which gave me it's last known location connected to the phone backtracked in my wheelchair and there it was exactly where the app said it was.
He didn't have the Samsung connected properly...
..
You need to be within Bluetooth range of the tags for this to work
@@AlexGillon Not necessarily!
5yo me stopped chasing after 1 min, headed home to watch tv, and took a nap
I am 6'4" and too tall for both of those cars, only people with little weenies drive those cars to try and make up for the small size
really tough for samsung, not only it needs another samsung phone but also to have the smart things enabled? I know many people with samsung phones but no one uses that app.
The airtags I have hardly ever update
They updated once in 5 mi😂
It pings off all android devices
@@kirani111 no it doesn't. It only pings off samsung devices that have UWB
@@thenerdshow boo, apple air tag it is then.
@@kirani111 That's not true. They didn't activate the find my Samsung tag feature, so it could not be found.
My Bloodhound found me from 19km away, no batteries or bluetooth needed, but it takes a lot of dry food😁!
Bro said, Samsung ping once. In the video, it ping twice and at the cafe he was at was so accurate! The bias is real on this one! Sound is louder on samsung tag
At 2:10, you show us your timer app. Can you please tell me the name of that app? I liked the asthetics, and would like to get that timer app on my Galaxy! Thank you so much in advance!
that's the default clock app on galaxy devices
@AlexGillon What breed of dog do you have?
Does anyone know what breed Pepper is?
*car drives away naturally. dude: WHOHOOOHOOOOOHOHO.
You didn't use the Samsung refresh button on the app, and went to locations with zero people, which is how it tracks it. I guess it's amateur hour.
Of course GB must always wear something Aston Martin
Even got an AM logo tattooed across my chest!
Galaxy Smart Tag works within Bluetooth range and beyond that range, the tag must be near to any other Samsung phone (probably in public) to make it possible.
Yes, so exactly like AirTags.
Thanks for this. I am a Samsung guy and I was considering buying this tag as a precaution but this was very disappointing.
I think it depends on whether the Samsung phone is nearby or Apple. In this case there was probably more Apple phones. That's why I have both of them.
All Galaxy devices come with the SmartThings app pre-installed like the Find My on iPhones.
The Samsung tag notifies you when it's dropped if you have the separation alarm on. So in actual life this would play out differently
One question. Who owns an automatic Porsche?
Bristol was practically empty. No wonder both tags were slow to update
That's because so many iphine user installed find my app in their phine and the usually turn bluetooth on (user airpods or apple watch)
That's why apple airtags can send more ping
Hi. Which one is better for tracking my kid?
By the why Samsung dođeš not have an app like IPhone for sharing location?
It does - the app is called 'Find'. You can use it for these trackers, and you can also add people to it.
Today i learned alex has 2 channels
In contrast to Apple AirTag's reliance on nearby Apple devices, Samsung's tracking technology utilizes the Android ecosystem, creating a mesh network with any nearby Android devices for location updates. While Android boasts a vast network globally, regions with fewer Android devices may experience limited location updates. Consequently, in areas with a higher concentration of Samsung devices, such as parts of Asia, Africa, and Australia, Samsung's tracking device may offer enhanced precision and functionality due to increased compatibility with local Android devices.
good effort guys!
I prefer the Samsung galaxy tags 2 over the original Apple airtags. A lot more affordable. Mine is the choarcoal black ⚫️ 🖤.
If he has an iphone with him this is unfair because for sure the airtag will work better.
Lots of harsh samsung die hards in the comment section. I think you did a great realistic video.
It not your fault the tag didn't work well. I would blame samsumg objectively even as a samsung s23 ultra owner. You can't have the expectation that weather will be great and people will be around when an item with your tag is stolen. Even if theres not many people around that's not your fault. 23 minutes is not okay and you pressed the refresh button. This is the reality of what can happen even in a dense city center. I think samsung has some work to do. I was suprised there wasn't a ping to a device at least inside a neaby building.
Cool video, but the real question is.... who in their right mind buys a Porsche roadster with an AUTOMATIC tans? 😬
Never thought this would be a tech review channel
Entertaining and beautiful time of year!
Samsung has more users and has been proven to track better than Apple...this seems like you've messed this up somehow.
Conclusion: get a SmartDog
That one Samsung ping could have been from the phone you were using to search with you were that close from the apple one.
It doesnt matter how much better and accurate the Samsung one if the requirements for it to ping the tag are so rare, I know so many people that have a Samsung and none of them have the Smarttag app installed so makes the tag useless.
It's the smart things app and it's preinstalled on all Samsungs so no it's not useless
@@ArdaSReal Thanks for your feedback 👍
I sent a smart tag from Western Europe to North Korea and the tag registered that it had arrived in North Korea.. So I guess it works :D
Wearing apple watch of course it's got ping 😂
My wife always forgets her phone at home going to work, can any of these work as a notifier if you leave phone coming out the door or in car.
yes, there is a feature named "left behind"
Totally disagree... Samsung smarttag 2 works very well... refresh it
In Germany we Say "Porsche" not Porsh

Both rely on people close by with the right phones
10 min head start to a Porsche? Man 1 min should suffice...
It's funny you think fast cars can beat traffic
Very odd. Same test in Australia, the smarttag works better
should my phone be a samsung to use the smarttag???
if the Samsung tracker needs bluetooth to track, then it's absolute garbage
Apple airtag needs bluetooth to lol... It works with bluetooth Sherlock..
All Samsung tag, even the old one, work better than Apple tag
Looks like both of them failed!
Use the search nearby...it would tell you better
If it doesn't last longer than my steel keys it doesn't work and is useless.
nothing to with the tags themselfs it depends what phone is near by Samsung or iPhone (ipad/macbook)
I love smarttag 2. Very fast tracking
May you please try Sumsung Airtag 1 vs Sumsung Airtag 2
3:26 He not even switch SmartTag on..... There are icon next to Name.... with are offline....
Airtag is warning you if a devise is nearby (thief). Completely useless.
Didnt set it to share location flawed experiment
dissapointed by samsung smarttag2 :-/ they need to set offline finding by default on.
What phone does the person being tracked have? He has an apple watch so he probably has an iPhone with him giving his apple tag a major unfair advantage. His phone should have been switched off so it wouldn't influence the test. This video is very poorly thought through. You should delete it and redo the test
This was so good, gave me top gear x the gadget show vibes

Samsung is so much better larger base and it has a 7 day history where it's bin.i have both apple and Samsung I don't even consider apple a smart phone. It's 2 years behind Samsung.
This was really helpful any chance you did a similar comparison with the tile?
It's not about tag. I will depend on network of smartphone. So, if you go over place where there is many samsung users then obviously samsung will do better and vice versa.
9:13 The only thing that he missed is he should have pinged the tag and find the location with smartphone first. He just went and searched the person and not the tag itself.
From the start, it's a bias review.
