I get the idea of locking your bike up in a visible area but it also makes it more visible for thieves to see. I think if people see someone stealing a bike, most will just mind their business and won’t say anything also.
It's definitely a tough balance. If someone locks their bike in a hidden area, there's a much lower chance of a burglar finding it. However, if they do find it, they can take their time stealing the bike.
@@FullCycleOttawaOP has a point. There was something I saw (I don't remember exactly what it was) but they did a test to see if people would intervene if they saw someone trying to steal a bike. Very few people did anything. In fact there was one time where they had a girl doing it. flat out said she was stealing it and a guy actually helped her. You can't trust bystanders to help.
I think you forgot to mention about security camera, lock the bike in a place where security camera can capture the footage. Also, hide an air tag somewhere hidden so that you may retrieve your bike in case if it gets stolen.
Definitely great points! Cameras add an extra layer of security, and having an AirTag hidden on your bike can be very helpful if it unfortunately gets stolen.
you can't hide an air tag. if the thief or their friends have an iphone, they'll get a phone notification that there's an air tag close to them and then they'll look for it until they find it. it's one of the anti-stalking features that apple implemented to try and prevent people from sneaking air tags in peoples bags to track them
Never use a cable or a foldable lock. Both are easy to break into with minimal effort. Having convenience is never good for compromise in security of your bike.
Since it takes several discs and a battery change to cut through these angle grinder resistant locks the thief may just cut through the frame of your bike out of spite. Happened to my co worker.
honestly its mostly luck 🤦🏽 ofcourse following the best practices helps but I also feel like it's not enough. If you have an expensive bike or a bike you wouldn't want to get stolen then just take an insurance on it. Paying that premium might be worth not having to worry about it everyday.

2:20 I do live in Japan. This is ironic because the second most prevalent crime here is bicycle theft...

Awsome video. Thank for the information.

All those locks are useless if the thief has an angle grinder.....Use LITELOK locks or HIPLOCK...!!
thanks for recommendations but those brands are insanely high priced... most people can't afford them

Cable locks? Really? Who are you and why should I listen to you?
