That RAM requirement alone will make all of our family computers incompatible with 12

Same here, LOL. Oh well, I guess I'm going to be enjoying Windows 11 a bit longer.

OK, M$, I hope you're listening. This is what we want from you in an OS:
    1. Privacy. No telemetry, no information gathering at all. My Internet connection should be SILENT if I'm not online.
    2. Stability. No crashes, no BSOD's. you've done pretty well with that since XP, keep it up.
    3. A small install. No bloatware, no software at all, just the OS. We'll install our own software, thank you very much. Oh, and make sure the installer does not spatter pieces of the OS over multiple drives, when present (Windows 10, I'm looking STRAIGHT at you).
    4. NO requirement to use a Microsoft account. We should be able to create an offline, local account, and that should be all that is ever needed.
    5. NO AI! We don't need it, we don't want it, keep it the hell off of our computers.
    6. No forced updates, except perhaps legitimate security updates.
    7. No hardware requirements beyond what was required for Windows 7. There's no reason I shouldn't be able to buy a business workstation from 2012 and install the latest version of Windows on it, after adding a little ram and an SSD.
    8. No crazy changes to the GUI. Don't take away stuff we've had for years, don't move and rename stuff, and don't add stuff that normal people will never use. (Cortana, Microsoft Bob, etc., I'm looking at you here!)
    9. It's not a phone, it's a PC. Don't repeat the mistakes you made with Windows 8.
    10. At least a dozen years of free security update support from the day an OS is released.
Do these things, and I'll happily pay full price for a retail version of your OS. Fail to do this, and I'll run Win 10 into the ground, then jump to Linux, and you can kiss my fat hairy butt goodbye forever. And I think I can speak for at least a few more folks out there.

16Gb minimum with 32gb recommended and probably 128Gb For optimum performance. And probably needing an RTX GPU and biometric scanner.
We're truly headed towards Terminator level craziness here.

i don't want their AI shit, every version they also make windows more limited for advanced users requiring extra clicks and menu navigating to get shit done. In windows 11 i even had to add a line to the registry to make my right click menu immediatly appear the way it used to like in the old versions instead of having to click 'show more options' I want the functionality of windows 7 back, best version ever made

I bought a new hp laptop year ago and it just has 8 gigs of RAM in it, I think the latest and greatest versions are getting out of control. Computers are getting just like cellphones, if you want the latest and greatest you will have to upgrade every couple years.

Who would still use 8GB of RAM in 2024? The last PC I built with such a tiny amount of RAM was in 2012... and even a laptop I had in 2010 had 12GB. It annoyed me a lot that they were still selling laptops with 4/8GB of RAM... all my desktop machines, even the aforementioned 2012 PC that can't even run Windows 11, were upgraded to 32GB of RAM long ago. And I can't deal with less than 16GB anymore, not even on a laptop. Maybe it's a good thing if it stops people from wasting money on new machines that don't have enough RAM to keep a cat alive. It has seemingly always been up to Microsoft to push hardware requirements forwards. I mean, I've managed to see my web browser use 20GB without even trying. These people probably don't realize their machines are constantly swapping, or they only have three tabs open in their browser.

Bizarre information like this is what makes me not want to switch to 11 from 10, because knowing Microsoft, they'd do something silly like start to make 11 require more as well and not just 12. I'd simply revert to 10 at that point. I don't mind upgrading to 32gb of ram from my 16 but I don't want to be forced to do so because Microsoft decided to do something stupid, it's just weird

Off topic question - A friend gave me a new email address of his and when I sent him an email it bounced back trom me as undeliverable as there is no such address as well as a lot of information I do not understand. I tries another of my email accounts and the same thing. I phoned him and verified his address and all ok,. I got him to send me an email and I received it and replied all went well. I have has the same issue with a real estate agent as my local Health Canada/CFIA contacts. How does a Correct email not be recognized and get bounce back to me and many others I would presume? It seems impossible for this to happen in my way of thinking. Thanks

I suspect PC Manufacturers are going to try to get the system requirements lowered since this will jack up the costs of PCs which will hurt sales. In addition why does Microsoft not have AI in the cloud which would lower the system requirements dramatically.

    • @WCT

PC manufacturers already make PCs that will be compatible. This is due to Microsoft doing too many things at the same time

I'm a casual user, not even a Gamer. All of my PCs have 8gb of ram or are 16gb capable. The older ones are running only 4gbs of ram and all are running Windows 10. None meet the min. req. for Windows 11 and for me it's overkill. If it continues on this current trend, I will say goodbye to Windows and switch to Linux. MS is simply leaving me no choice. I build my own PCs and it would cost me atleast $500ea, a bargain price to upgrade my PCs. Right now I can't even get a Windows 10 Mobo/Cpu combo for under $200. Not counting ram and a cooler. Not to mention HDMI capable at that price is almost non existent. Add $100 for that. I just don't need anything so powerful. I think MS is in kahootz with the PC Manufacturers in a money grab to force people to buy new PCs and for what? AI isn't important to me at all.

window 12 will not require 16 gb of ram they have just moved the requirement to 8 GB a few months ago , we are seeing little slight of hand here windows 12 is going to be AI DRIVEN Moble OS that instals on ARM and snapdragon Motherboards it will not install on the PCs we have to day for this we will continue to have windows 11 in fact windows 12 and window 11 24h2 will release at about the same month both will offer a Subcription for AI infact windows 11 just got this subscription $20 a month .

No, Windows 12(if it's called like that) will still available on current PCs and laptops with x86 CPUs, ARM CPUs are cool and all but they lack performance(like even the Macbook Pro M3 Max isn't fast enough for my needs but the i7 on my laptop is costing only a fraction) but are more power efficient, plus a lot of programs aren't even compiled for ARM so these will runs on a emulator bundled with Windows translating x86 instructions to ARM instructions, and.. the worst is x86 AVX and AVX2 extensions aren't supported by the emulator so all the apps and games that uses these instructions set extensions cannot run even on the emulator... x86 is far from being dead... trust me.

    Windows 12 might be a 128Bit OS as apposed to a 64Bit like Win 10 and 11.

    • @YannBOYERDev
      @YannBOYERDev 6 месяцев назад +1

Afaik, no consumer CPUs are 128bit, and probably won't be until a very long time, 64bit is more than enough and it's not that simple to change from 64 to 128bit with only a little benefit... Remember, a 64bit system can addresses a maximum of 16 Exabytes of RAM(which is more than TB)(if your CPU supports that amount of RAM) and uint64_t and int64_t are enough for most tasks...

I've had Windows 10 since the early days, running on 4GB RAM. It worked great, until an update came that made the PC unstable, due to insufficient RAM. So, the idea that Windows 10 can run on 2GB is laughable.
