+Eliezer Pennywhistler Throughout the novel, Holden demonstrates his hatred towards phonies. He believes movies are phony because the actors are pretenders, phonies even. But after figuring out he was going through some existensial crisis and all, I really started feeling sorry for the sonuvab*tch for chrissake. It depressed me like hell. JD is dead, so how ever he gave the rights to his catalog of books etc, could sell the story to become a movie, Because JD said he'd never let Hollywood make a movie while he was alive.
If "The Catcher in the Rye" ever becomes a movie, I fear it's going to be extremely shitty and inaccurate. It also needs a very talented cast that can realify the characters and their personalities, from Ackley's ignorance to Maurice's brutality.
The movie Rules of Attraction is kind of close with the ideas of the book. So good (football stadium scene, Restaurant dinner "Have a good one", Drug deal, etc etc all so great ...
I had to read this book for class. I prepared myself for another cheesy, overused, overrated book. However, after getting into it, I quickly found myself submerged in the story as it began to highlight such interesting themes. Now, I can honestly say I loved this book. Haven't felt the same way towards any book since Lord of the Flies which was 2 years ago.

Movie trailers that turn out to be fake make me depressed as hell. They really do. I mean to say- you take a real movie trailer, it gets me all hyped up. I mean it.
I really want this to be made into a movie. Steven Speilberg and others have all offered to direct the film, but every single time, Salinger rejected them. Also, the likes of di caprio, brando, Nicholson and toby Maguire have all offered to play Holden. Clearly, there is a lot of interest in making the film. Look what happened to Mary Poppins; this could work. Really hope they adapt this into a movie.
It will never be made into a film because Salinger forbid it before signing over publishing rights for his works after his death. One of his stories was turned into a film and it was disastrous in his eyes. He's also said he'd be the only one who could ever play Holden. People have been trying to make this film ever since Catcher was published...and it will never, ever happen.
Wow! You should definitely make the full movie because this trailer is a beautiful tribute to an amazing book. Your portrayal of Holden's character is brilliant and I love the Smoke Gets in Your Eyes merry go round scene. Absolutely exquisite.
I know this is from a few years back, but well done. Great work, costumes are great, and I like how Holden is portrayed, really similar to what I imagined him to look like! :)
Salinger as you know specified it must never be made into a movie. Billy Wilder and Elia Kazan among others wanted to do it. His story "Uncle Wigglly in Connecticut" was made into a film called "My Foolish Heart" and he HATED IT!!! And said never again. I kind of don't blame him-- everyone has their own mental image and idea of Holden. It kind of takes away the mystery and depth if someone makes it into a movie.
The movie Rules of Attraction is kind of close with the ideas of the book. So good (football stadium scene, Restaurant dinner "Have a good one", Drug deal, etc etc all so great ...
Please tell me you got an A on the project. That was amazing for a student with limited materials. You should join film arts if your school offers that class
Ah, could the lighting of a lit cigarette be an allusion to Holden's own hypocrisy? Think of it. He castigates so many as 'phonies' the whole book and his solution to that and really all the problems he identifies with the world and it's people is no solution. He simply comments, makes bad choices, comments more, smoked and comments and then more bad choices. It is like the best he has come up with is acting bored with everything, sorta tragically-hip and seen-it-all-at-17. But has he? No. Not at all. In fact, his monied parents and prep school life are about as easy as any 17 year old American kid can wish for. He is a fraud and in fact, inwardly terrefied. For all his acting as if he epitomizes cool detachment and thru this untested nihilsm or fatalism or whatever he exusdes, he is scared shitless and suspects it will get vastly more difficult and that his own emotions and sensetivity will destroy him later and that his current life as wandering rich boy is really as easy and goodas it gets and he cannot even hack that. But instead of crying out, instead of affecting change in attitude, psychology, religion, academics to make things better or try anew, he is selfish to the core and lazy--because he is self-aware but unwilling try something new, to learn, to change. Again, no internal call to action, just more commentary-some of it very unique, witty, interesting and wise for a teenager, admittedly and more and then more smoking and bad choices, a loop. Lighting the lit cigarette, perhaps, signifies his real core--feckless, amateurish, hypocritical and fake. This boy is playing at being an adult, playing at being a youth and sorta playing even at being a human being. He is using a lit cigarette as a deceptive prop to cover up that he is a scared little kid. If this is not phony, what is?
I almost lost it with the whole letting us know they were props and smoking is bad hahaha. I respect his project, but that was just silly. Kids today and their irrational fear of ciggs... They didn't warn me at the beginning of Saving Private Ryan they did not use live ammo and do not suggest doing so.

Just so you know there will never be a movie of catcher in the rye because JD Salinger said in his well and before he died that he will never sell the rights to any movie company. I wanted to give Old Jane a buzz and tell her about this trailer. But you have to be in the mood and all to do that. So i just put on my red hunting hat and started walking to the park. It was helluva depressing if you think about it
So I watched this documentary on JD Salinger a little while back and it stated that the reason he didn't allow The Catcher In The Rye to be turned into a movie was bc he was really disappointed with the short film created based off of one of his short stories. And since then said to never let any of his other stories be turned into movies
This should never be a movie, and this can never be a movie. To make Catcher in the Rye a movie would be the ultimate shitting on the grave of anyone that has ever lived.
The movie Rules of Attraction is kind of close with the ideas of the book. So good (football stadium scene, Restaurant dinner "Have a good one", Drug deal, etc etc all so great ...

I am reading the book again after 45 years. Then it seemed normal. 2024 it's dated and the times have changed and the English language too. The language in the book could not be used today. Maybe worse but reading it's dated to the world my parents grew up. Wish there be a movie to bring the book to life. I would love it. ❤
Okay title had me convinced it was real..... Nice work on this fan vid though. But if it were somehow real.... I can't even imagine. Really interesting. Go for it. Do not listen to people's negative opinions...remember...those opinions are just their own.--The movie trailer itself moved me and, in the end, isn't that what true expression in art is all about?
I think this is really good, not too melancholic like some other fake trailers. though I suppose I wouldn`t like The catcher in the rye as a movie, you have done a great job

You know when you write a comment under a video and nobody likes it, I really hate this kinda stuff.
Is this a goddamn joke? I don't think there's actually a movie behind this trailer, to tell you truth. This looks so phony.
+Shachar Har-Shuv Has it ever occurred to you to read the goddamn description? Before you post and make an idiot of yourself?
+Eliezer Pennywhistler I just enjoyed writing like Holden. And no, I haven't read the description ...
+Shachar Har-Shuv And you can't spell it neither.
Well, the goddamn English language is not my native language and I get some goddamn spelling mistakes from time to time. I hate those phony people that always have to correct everybody. It doesn't really matter, though, when you think about it. It just piss people off. so why doing that?... They kill me, those people, they really do.
r/swoooosh
this is seariously good, if they ever allow people to make it into a movie you should start a kickstarter :)
Great trailer. Well shot, acted and edited. Just wondering what song it is you use?
Saul Rapley Kinda has a vintage feel to it.
I wish I could be the director of the movie for Catcher in the Rye....I pictured it so well in my head it was one of the best mental movies I have ever seen.
Why is he lighting a cigarette that's already lit?
lol smartass
I killed me. It really did.
The thought of this is only a project for English class and all. It killed me.
It was the greatest book I've read in my entire life
Just learned bout this book in school... Didn't know it existed 8 years ago.... ❤️
This phony trailer killed me. It really did.
'over 300 awards in 42 countries' woah good job bro
He wears the same hat as Ignatius J. Reilly, of A Confederacy of Dunces. hey MICKOFFERSON (!), please read: A One Hundred Dollar Misunderstanding, signed, some guy in Delaware
My school life was inspired by Holden's views. He has been my hero
0:26 best smoking scene ever
Thought this was really good! Nice work :)
Timothee Chalamet would be the perfect Holden Caulfield, and I don’t say this lightly: The Catcher in the Rye is my favorite book
Yes. If they made a movie with Timothee they could set it in the mid fifties when Holden would be in his mid twenties.
As an adult reading the book over again (for the 3rd time) I'm just like -- dude! Holden has ADHD! He really does!
this is helluva depressing
Guys just read the description!! It says it's just a school project.
Such bad acting. No wonder this wasn't a movie.
It's fan made...to dumb to realize that?
Nizzle Prizzle No shit Sherlock
Spike Powers "no wonder it wasn,t a wedding"
Nizzle Prizzle wedding?
+Nizzle Prizzle wasn,t?
I wanted to give Old Jane a buzz and tell her about this trailer. But you have to be in the mood and all to do that. So i just put on my red hunting hat and started walking to the park. It was helluva depressing if you think about it
To be truthful the actor is pretty phony, god dam it I hate the movies
Hey that was really good man! Very well done :)
Where do ducks go in the winter?
So I watched this documentary on JD Salinger a little while back and it stated that the reason he didn't allow The Catcher In The Rye to be turned into a movie was bc he was really disappointed with the short film created based off of one of his short stories. And since then said to never let any of his other stories be turned into movies
This should never be a movie, and this can never be a movie. To make Catcher in the Rye a movie would be the ultimate shitting on the grave of anyone that has ever lived.
I so hope any film adaptation of Catcher in the Rubbish castrates the source material and has Holden eaten by turkeys and fired at his funeral.
One of the few books that I've read multiple times. I'd love to see a movie made of it one day before I die.

This is really nice! Good job!
This is OUTRAGEOUS you MUST give credit to the artist of the track used in this trailer! Gah!
i finished reading the book a day ago, and i wanted to see if anyone had made any videos about it. this really killed me, it's too good for a school project! the puns in the comments are grand! 😂
Really cool!
I love this video, I really do.
I am reading the book again after 45 years. Then it seemed normal. 2024 it's dated and the times have changed and the English language too. The language in the book could not be used today. Maybe worse but reading it's dated to the world my parents grew up. Wish there be a movie to bring the book to life. I would love it. ❤
with the amount of coming-of-age movies and shows that there are out there, how's come no one tried making a good movie about the catcher?
Bravissimo! It was a great pleasure to see few images of this book.
Okay title had me convinced it was real..... Nice work on this fan vid though. But if it were somehow real.... I can't even imagine.
Just everyone promise me we can all be fans...just not to the extent that any hot shot movie people feel tempted to make a movie of Catcher in the Rye.
Thank goodness Salinger forbade it. It's up to us to preserve that preliminary.
