    Greetings from a bow hunter in South Africa. A tip if I may. Bleed the moose immediately after killing with rifle, or shoot with bow. The bleed makes all the difference.

    I like how you store with the rings on your jars. That's how iv always done it. Never knew alot of folks stored with rings off till I started watching RUclips.
    To me it's extra security when storing and you can safely stack jars on top each other. I generally fill my old jar boxes up with jars and stack boxes on top each other on shelf's or in a corner.
    If some reason the seal fails the button on lid will raise.. so no danger there.

    Can't wait to see the canner build video!
    What size propane tanks are you using?
    Can you run the canner with the 2 tanks for one full canning session or do you just change out tanks as needed?
    Thanks for sharing! All those jars are beautiful!

    Great video Scott and Family!!, I would suggest you use Mineral Oil instead of vegetable oil to help with keeping the canner from rusting.
    Retired meat cutter, that’s what we wiped everything in the shop down with after clean up.
    My guess would be you used a 4’ spool of a 24” diameter steel pipe, welded a bottom to it with a few legs and a big blind flange for the top, 1/2” line with a T for the pressure regulating valve and gauge.
    Are you a Pipe Fitter/Welder of some sort??
    I worked both as Meat Cutter and Water Distribution Manager.
    I’ll send a picture of mine when I get it built.
    Great idea with the all thread to lift the lid, you just saved me hours of work canning!!
    It’s slow going 7 qts at a time, and my lids also eventually rust even out of a stainless pot.
    They need to make stainless caps and rims.
    Now I want to go kill something
    👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
    ✌🏼😎

      @diyalaskanlifestyle  2 года назад +1

      24”x24” I’ll be putting a build video out soon. I’m not a pipe fitter but I do some welding for myself. I welded a couple 3/4 fittings to the lid for the psv and the gauge/valve. Glad you liked the video I’ll try and remember the mineral oil next time

    Been watching your channel for awhile now. It's great to see families doing things together. I have a question about your hunting videos that I haven't heard you talk about. Do you worry about bears? I watched your youngest get his first moose and there were 15 wolves you filmed, do you worry about wild animal attacks ? Looking forward to hearing from you, take care and may God bless you and your family.

    • @diyalaskanlifestyle
      @diyalaskanlifestyle  2 года назад +2

      Yes I am a little nervous about bears we try to make noise while walking in the woods, and we try to keep a clean camp or cabin. I always carry a sawed off pistol grip shot gun when on my atv or I have a 500sw pistol when I am walking. I’ve done a couple sheep/goat hunts where we walk up to 40miles. Prob the most realistic encounter would be a moose in the winter on our snow machine trails sometimes on heavy snow yrs moose will refuse to get off the trails and can be very aggressive. We just had a local dog musher get her dog team stomped by a moose it went on for a very long time she emptied her gun into it and had to go to a near by neighbor to have him put the moose down.
      Glad you like the videos

    How do you come close to establishing your cool times? I’ve been looking into building my own, and I know, I’ll do at my own risk, lol. But your content is very simple to understand. Basically by maintaining your pressure/heat through by either opening/closing or raising/lowering the heat. But what about cool times. I mean most meats aren’t Cooked for 3 hours, so is based on the quantity of the jars, and if so, do you have any info. Thanks again, I’ve watched this video like 6 times already

    • @diyalaskanlifestyle

      I have a couple more videos out. All I do I just let the pressure come down on its own it takes about an hr for the psi to come down. If you watch my latest video where we can halibut I talk about how long it took to depressurize

      We added water to the chili it was absorbed into the beans. Same for the pork n beans. For the moose meat we filled with h20 to about 1” from lid

      When it comes to canning raw meat, just pack it down really good. It cooks while in the pressure canner and shrinks down. As for meals, always leave the head space or the liquid will come out in the canner and won't seal properly.
