- Alex upgrades the cooling package in the GRC thanks to PWR North America before he and Richard hit the track for GR Movement Round 2. Will the new aero from Verus Engineering and the cooling upgrades spell success for this event? Or will we have more hurdles to overcome? If you've ever built a track car you'll know the answer.

I feared a new diff cooler solution would be essential for tracking these cars. Great to see folks like you doing the dirty work for everyone else!
Only if you are able to push the car to the limit. Came back from the track the other day it was 85 degrees I didn’t have any issue at all.
Yah, we are trying to push this car more and more. It also forces the aftermarket to answer our calls for help.
The diff isn't what fails. The coupler in front of that has issues. There are a couple options to solve that. 1. Is a small heat shield that goes around the temp sensor in the side of the coupler to protect is from exhaust heat, or 2. Get the awd controller and then you can completely control the awd and make sure it doesn't kick into fwd
Love the content, cannot help but specify it would be a lot better if we could hear the engine spool on track. The music overlay kills me every time.
Yah, we don't really have mics inside to enjoy that engine spool. Once we have a shift in our budget then maybe we can rely less on the soundtrack.
@@JustDrivenI hope my subscribing to your videos helps. I’d like the mics too! I’ll like every video until then, and will double like afterwards 😂
Great video, my favorite part in the video is your daughter. I enjoy working in my garage too with my 7 year old daughter Julia, who is also a little car girl.
Yah, sharing your passions with a younger generation is so rewarding. Great to hear you and your daughter get to share you love of cars together.
i just purchased one this week and stumbled across this account. Its great to see how hard you guys are pushing development on this car. I wasnt too surprised that the aftermarket support isnt there yet but coming from a gr86 still came to a shock. Definitely will be keeping up with you guys on your progress for this car. Hope to catch you guys around at the track
Heck yah! If you see us stop by and say hi. Thank you for the support.
Can't wait to see the upgrades coming for the GRC!
We've been so busy, but this thing is still making the rounds with some of our vendors for upgrades. It desperately needs suspension.
Great to see one out on track. We were in the same group, I was wondering how the gr corolla was doing in the heat. Thinking of getting one next year gotta soft spot for hot hatches. Keep up the good work.
We are loving this thing. Heat and traffic were killing our times. But hopefully next event we will have better luck. Next time you see us out there come say "hi."
Lovin’ how its comin’ along. Can’t wait to see that diff cooler!!
We can't wait to have it on the car!
PWR do awesome work. I'm in Australia and their head office is about 1/2hr drive from my house. Great business
They have been an amazing partner! We are very fortunate to have them in our corner.
Also consider an oil cooler. And please, let us see what you all have done when all is installed. I'm very interested in what kind of solution can be created for this issue. I own a Black Core edition and where I live is always summer so for me all those cooling mods are a must.
Yes we already had the oil cooler installed, Alex mentioned it and we showed it a couple times in the montage of parts when the front end was coming apart. We are thinking of relocating it next to get fresh front air flow to help more next time.
Did i miss the lap time? And I'm digging the "Sunday Cruise" hand positioning 🤣
At around the 16:19 mark Alex mentions the final best time of a 1:38.1xx.
@@JustDriven Ah, thank you! That's an okay lap. I assume it will drop considerably once the cooling issues are sorted. There's gotta be a ton of time left in it.
Cooling and power. We really want to nail down the basics before throwing more power at it though.
@@JustDriven That's awesome, guys. Keep at it!
I aaaalmost went the Carolla route but didn't, so I'm very interested to see where they go since I'm not playing LOL
We need moar noiiiise :D
There wasn't many spots on track for us to setup cameras so we were limited. And the interior camera audio didn't catch anything but wind noise from the open windows. Richard had to keep the windows open because he had the heaters on to keep the mechanical temps down.
How about changing diff fluid to redline? might be better and vent scoop :-) great job guys awesome car... our temps go to 222' oil and 197' water
Yah, we are going to work on the diff next. Thanks for the support.
you should include more footage of him actually driving the car on track.
We have some more footage of him driving someplace. Maybe we could release another video of him out there putting in the work?
Great video! Love the car!!! What’s that song in the intro? It slaps
Thank you so much! The song is Highlight Reel by Dylan Sitts.
We have the same problem with the differential in the GR YARIS in Germany. There is an oil cooler kit from Hel Performance for the GR YARIS.
Crazy this has been such an issue. We are working with PWR North America and we are hoping to work with them on an oil cooler kit. And adding the Cusco piece also to help keep things cool.
You convinced me to get one lol i had no 8dea it was hand built
💪🏼💪🏼
Hell yea! Gr corolla 💪🏽
🤘🏼
cant wait till they ditch the boxer engine in the gr86 and put the 3 banger in it
We would love to buy a GR86 and do a swap.
Cant wait untill these mods are linked in description
We can update that for you.
@Just Driven - Curious for the TC105x wheels..., does the OE rear spacer fit with this wheel or do you need to remove and use a different hub centric spacer for the new wheel bore size?
@Just Driven, also you should look at a few of the race brands down in Australia they've gone through the same woes years ago with the awd over heating issue; Toyota makes a new under tray fix for added airflow .
We've seen a lot of the Yaris overheat issues. We knew going into this there would be some battles. It's part of why we got PWR North America onboard early. As for the Weds...We removed the rear spacer when we put the wheels on. Mostly to keep the rear wheel from catching the fender.
Hey guys great build who makes that front spliter? Also is it hard plastic?
Our aero was created by Verus Engineering. They should have a release on these parts soon!
I also have a Corolla guys !! ❤❤
Heck ya!
@@JustDriven 😜
What coilovers are you on?
What specs are the wheels? (size, offset).
Thank you! The car looks amazing!
Thank you! We are not on coilovers yet. This event it got some RSR lowering springs for testing.
The wheels are 18x9.5 +25 and the factory rear bolt on spacer was removed just in case of fender/quarter contact with soft springs.
@@JustDriven Alright thanks for the quick answer.
I'm supposed to receive mine in a few weeks and just realised the low amount of aftermarket parts available.
Guess I'm "too soon"
Once more GRCs are out in the wild the aftermarket will catch up.
I live the tropics i can confirm that those are my regular temps for the coolant. The oil temp usually is between 209 and 210F. But 190F with a 93F weather is the norm for coolant. It fluctuates from 191 to 210F max. Hard driving and bumper to bumper temps. So what are the benefits of the radiator upgrade?
We are hoping for a cooler system and more efficiency before we chuck more power at it.
I know you have coil overs on the car now, but when you ran track days on these lowering springs, with those wider 265 tires on the Wedsports, did you have any rubbing? thanks again!
There was no rubbing. We have Cusco rear arms and we removed the rear factory spacer.
perfect. Im thinking for the time being, I will run the swift Spec R springs, with the front crash bolt, and the rear upper Cusco arm on the Wedsports. Im still holding out for offerings from KW or Ohlins, but in the meantime want it lower and a little more sporty. Im pondering going with the 9.0" width instead of the 9.5 you're running. It has the same offset and I dont need max width tires, and the wheel is almost 1lb lighter. going to look into tire offerings at the 255 width before i decide. would there be anything I am missing going with the slightly narrower wheel and tire package, or did you want to get the biggest tire on there for obvious performance reasons? thanks again, LOVE your content and its so helpful that you guys are so interactive with the community and reply to the comments on your videos so well. cheers!@@JustDriven
We went with the widest wheel and tire combo we could for track performance. We are so glad you're enjoying the content! We appreciate the support.
what are the rims? they look beautiful. are they the same spec as the stock one?
The wheels are 18x9.5 +25 Wedssport TC105x and the factory rear bolt on spacer was removed just in case of fender/quarter contact with soft springs.
This has to be my favorite wheel/tire fitment on the gr corolla. Any rub at this tire width, height and offset? Thanks in advance! Edit: nevermind! I just saw an earlier comment.
Thank you for the comment! We appreciate the support.
Any updates or links for the oil cooler kit? I would love one but I can't find a listing for it from PWR. And what about a link for the splitter lip kit, that looks great.
PWR had not officially launched their cooling products for the GR Corolla as of today’s date. And Verus has not debuted the rest of their aero parts. Both will release soon but no official date yet.

@@JustDriven Thanks for the reply. I met one of you at Toyotafest toward the end of the day so I figured you would be a good source.
Heck ya!
I realize I'm late to the party on this one, but what are you running in the cooling system? If you haven't tried yet, and since you live in a warm state, use distilled water and some Red Line Water Wetter or similar, no antifreeze. Should help.
Thanks for the suggestions. We have some aero ducting to the rear diff and a new radiator. All new fluids and some other little tricks. New cooling upgrades coming.
Always run the heater. My uncomfortability is not a concern.
Trying to dig into those faster times anyway you can!
Wow, it sucks that diff is still overheating even after those mods. Hopefully a diff cooler solves the problem.
Yah, we want to address the ducting again and hoping the Cusco piece and a diff cooler will be great next steps for us.
@@JustDriven would the GRC still have these problems if it was actually racing on something closer to a rally stage? ie, long and curvy gravel roads?
It would likely have similar issues depending on track temps.
Toyota dropped the ball on the cooling. Unacceptable for it's price point, hope they address it in the next refresh
its been months, round 3 is around the corner. wheres the radiator install video??
Pretty sure this is the video we install the radiator actually...
Golf R looking like a good buy right now
The Golf R is a good buy. Are there a lot of people cross shopping these two cars?
Does Golf R have crazy markups like this Corolla GR
@@mmc2k9999 no
sucks a brand new car will have overheating issues
When pushed to the limits like this, nearly every car in this price range will have overheating issues. We are digging into this new chassis and trying to smooth out any issues we find for future and current owners wanting to push their cars to the limit too.
It just wasn’t made for tracking.
We love a good challenge.
Only a 1:38 lap time with all those mods. And I just bought one thinking I’d have a good little street/track car. So disappointed.
having a hard time believing this thing is having high water temps with that radiator. thing was a work of art and looked like it held twice the capacity or more than the stock one.
It was very hot at the track that day. We couldn't believe it either.
Have you approached Toyota GR for their help, yes i know the builders,Toyota GR are not the after market American companies but who knows what they are doing, reach out to them as it could be a better option
We haven't reached out to them yet. We can't be the only ones having cooling issues with this thing. We hope to be the first to crack the issue though so we can share it with all of you.
