Lost In Vegas Hey, fellas. Too bad you had to edit so much. But hey, you prolly won’t have troubles with JOY DIVISION’S “COLONY!” Those guys love sharing. I’ll even tweet it to the band if you give it a go. ;) ruclips.net/video/1JI1A_OI6S8/видео.html
OminousWaveOfMusic Well, I still see stuff from Hooky on Twitter every day and Bernard is on there, too. These guys would tap into a huge audience if they did one Joy Division song. Admittedly, their audience is sort of underground in the states, but they are HUGE everywhere else. Particularly in the U.K. and Germany. Joy Division has strangely grown in popularity in recent years over there. Just google some of their merch. They're on everything from coffee mugs to freakin' dog collars nowadays. Being a purist, I kinda hate that, but then, it's cool they're so recognized now, too.
When i was like 9 years old my mom asked what i wanted for my birthday. I said " I want a Rock and roll album." (Heavy Metal hadnt been coined yet) She went to the record store, no idea what she was looking for, and asked the cashier " My son wants a Rock and Roll album, can you recommend one?" She bought me Heaven And Hell, and i cant put into words how it changed my life.
It's almost necessary to separate the Ozzy and Dio eras of Sabbath; they're equally awesome (for different reasons), but also equally fantastic (for also different reasons),
I cried when Dio passed away he was an amazing talent. My mom worked with friends of his and they said he was a loving person. We need more singers like him. Forever Rest In Peace
My first concert was a Dio concert, I prolly was 14 or 15, my father being the biggest Dio fan. Front row, some guy next to us, gave me his meet and greet tickets. By far one of the coolest doqn to earth guys I have ever met. R.I.P Dio \m/
So did I. I never wept for anyone outside my blood family before RJD passed. Still miss him, knowing I won't hear any new stuff any more... ever again... sucks. I still do sometimes, listening to this song and others when I'm alone and feeling down. He was a singular talent, so expressive, such control... a phenomenal singer no matter what he'd have sung and Metal was extremely lucky to have him!
"the guitarist was going on for 2 minutes.. fingers bleeding"... well, you just stumbled on a story about how heavy metal came to be. he is missing two fingertips on the right hand so he has prosthetics to enable him to play, so its unlikely that his fingers would bleed from playing. How did that happen you wonder? He worked at the factory as a teenager and on the last day on job, just before going all in on a music carreer a machine cut off his two fingertips. He is left handed so if you see him playing you'll see he holds the guitar the other way compared to other guitarists. Instead of trying to learn playing by switching sides he devised some prosthetics himself, made from leather jacket to enable him to play the way he did before. But in the process he had to tune down his guitar to enable him to bend strings more easily. That tuning down is what gave them that heavy sound that was so unlike anything else, and what gave spark to the whole genre. The end.
Black Sabbath was probably one of the only bands who switched lead singers and it worked out. I like both Ozzy and Dio version of Sabbath. They both have a distinct sound/vibe and it works.
Dio Black Sabbath was very different from Ozzy Black Sabbath, although both of them amazing. Ozzy tended to sing over the riffs, and Dio tended to sing over the chords. Tony Iommi pointed this out once in an interview and you can really notice it when you go back and listen.
Ronnie James Dio had a grasp of Music Theory far better than Ozzy. Ozzy only wrote one song (Goodbye to Romance) after he and Sabbath parted ways. Dio continued to write songs up until he was hospitalized... R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio (we miss you)
I think Ozzy's singing peaked in the mid '70s, around Vol. 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and Sabotage. After that? He ruined his voice with alcohol and cocaine. Shame, because he developed a pretty damned good control of melody, pitch, and cadence. Never had much range, but he still managed to make the most of a severely limited instrument.
I also will suggest Stargazer OR Gates of Babylon by Rainbow. Love Dio in Sabbath and his solo work but his work in Rainbow is by far my favorite of his
Stargazer.....the best song in the history of music! My #1 fave!! A reviewer did it, and it blew him away! It's not even possible to listen, without hitting replay!
Geezer will never get enough credit for what he does on the bass in Black Sabbath. To me, best hard rock/heavy metal bassist in history. And, by the way, did I hear Stargazer by Rainbow (also with Dio on vocals) should be next?
I was thinking the same! I thought it would be cool for them to do something from The Mob Rules and Sign of the Southern Cross was the first song that came to mind. Dio's vocals would make them slide outta their seats lol.
The guitarist is Tony Iommi, he lost two fingertips and almost gave up playing guitar but he ended up making covers for his fingertips and continued playing guitar... I'm glad he did...
He also switched to Gibson guitars due to they have a shorter neck which creates less tension in the strings, and tuned lower to also reduce tension making it less painful to play, which ultimately resulted in his unique, cool guitar tone and created a whole new sound. A very iconic player!
@@insufferablethrashelitist9305 he switched because the gibson sg was his spare but while recording the first album the strat packed up on the second song, so the spare guitar did most of the album and became the main guitar for the first 5 albums and tours. Plus it wasn't downtuned on the first two albums, and only some songs after that, most of them being on master of reality.

I'm glad you guys decided to do this. 1980 was a massive year for metal. British Steel - Judas Priest. Back In Black - AC/DC ft Brian Johnson for the first time. Blizzard Of Ozz - Ozzy Osbourne. His first solo album and of course Heaven And Hell - Black Sabbath. Ronnie's first recording with Sabbath. RJD is very significant to the world of heavy metal. He gave us the metal horns. Our salute, but more significantly, his music. He went solo. That's the stuff you need to be checking out. METAL WILL NEVER DIE! One of his last recordings before we lost him. "Nothing evil. Another great video guys. I will never forget the first time I heard this on the radio back in the 80's. I had never really heard heavy metal before. I went straight to the record store and bought this album. I had never done that before. This song opened up an entire world of music appreciation that I lacked. Kudos again guys, well done.
Ozzy has the type of voice that's like a chanting style. Ronnie James Dio is like an operatic type voice. Both great singers, but two totally different styles. Keep up the great, great work!
Yeah this is my favourite RUclips channel. That free thinker mentality is infectious but healthy, and I feel like I'm watching a masterclass on it when I watch you guys discover new music.
Headless Cross! Stargazer covering Black Sabbath! (When they were without Dio nor Ozzy, so a lot of amazing potential without a proper voice to express it)
Yes! Happy to see you guys react to this classic, the battery life comment was hilarious! Please react to a more recent classic FEAR FACTORY - Self Bias Resistor. It's a milestone band that really shaped what metal is today. And more importantly, it will blow you away!
I always like to say that the drums do not keep tempo as much because I see people say that drums keep tempo; drums keep rhythm and provide the style, but the bass is what sets the tempo and groove.
That's why they liked NeObliviscaris :) Instead of keeping with the 32nd notes of the bass drum, the bassist would play 8ths and 4s over the fast double kick and it would still sound groovy.
@@jdog6620I had a ticket to the Heaven & Hell tour that got canceled due to Ronnie's health problems. My only chance to hear him live, but it obviously never happened.
Truly one of the best songs to ever come out of Sabbath's repertoire. Everything about it is just amazing, the music, the lyrics, the general feel of it, everything! And that vocal delivery by the incomparable Ronnie James Dio, truly one of a kind. Heaven and Hell absolutely rules. Rest In Peace, Dio.
Ronnie James Dio one of the founding members of Blackmore's Rainbow. I credit DIO for the immense popularity of Rainbow. This was at a stage where Black Sabbath had just had to "Release" Ozzy as the lead singer and Dio just happened to be post-Rainbow. I was a huge DIO fan when my Sabbath Fan friend told me he had just joined Sabbath. Found the album and took it directly to a friends house (shout out to Rus). We put the platter on and were hit with the first song "Neon Knights". Worth the spin if you guys ever get a chance. I was blown away on first listen and still this is one of my favorite Sabbath Albums despite it being in a transitional period of their career.
William I don't dislike that version, but I personally believe that Rainbow's Stargazer is better. I like the mixing better, and the song was made for Dio's voice.
Glad you DID upload this! You guys bring a fresh view of some of these songs. A different perspective. I feel almost like I'm discovering these songs all over again because you have similar reactions to when I first heard them. THAT is the appeal of these reaction vids I think. I couldn't put it into words why I've liked watching these, but I think that's the main appeal!! 👍🤘👊
Dat Nilla Von Dizzle lol.. yes, I remember the good ol days.very well. Gathering and listening to albums… Eventually watching MTV and I don't hang around the TV waiting for the next world premiere video ha ha. Those were the days
I picked this one up on vinyl right when it was released back in the day and yes...love at first note. The thing about this album is that EVERY song on it is thick and solid...EVERY song. Also, as you guys realized and mentioned...the lyrics are far beyond clever. They are grounded in depth of experiences and serve an instructional purpose as well. The artists are the ones pointing the way for humanity and it is important to listen. Love you guys! Peace.
Butler is THE Beast. Many credit Tony Iommi’s sound to his tuning, his tone, his style of playing and the overdubs et et, but to top it all its Geezer’s bass playing is a very important, yet often overlooked reason why Sabbath sound the way they sound. Not knocking Tony - I adore him, but together these two formed such a formidable partnership that will never ever be replicated. 🔥🤘
Great review! I've been waiting for this one! But... Mr. Crowley - Ozzy Osbourne (So Ryan can wish he could play guitar even more....) Fever - Judas Priest (Because Rob Halford)
BuroBear I HIGHLY agree with Mr.Crowley but HIGHLY disagree with Fever, litterally one of the two bad songs on Screaming for Vengeance. I say either Victims Of Change or Lovebites to mix things a bit.
@Much Meh I enjoy every song on Screaming for Vengeance and I disagree about Fever obviously. It's a fun song to play on guitar, and I think they would enjoy the transitions throughout.
I love Fever but they've only heard Painkiller so far. I think Victim of Changes or Beyond the Realms of Death would be better recommendations right now.
Bass is so necessary in rock/metal. Bass players get a lot of shit, but rock/metal song without bass is like a cake without sugar. It might still be good, but it's not as good as it should be.
I like the fact you took the time to appreciate the bass. I am a bassist myself and a lot of people don’t understand the importance of the bass but your attention to detail with every instrument in your song reactions is amazing
70K views and 3.8k comments in 19 hours from a an almost 40 year old song... not only does that mean this was long over due it should also tell you that we want more Dio. You did Holy Diver (Dio, Campbell, Bain) from Dio, which while a great song, you should have gone for something like Last in Line or All the Fools Sailed Away to capture the true spirit of the band not to mention a better appreciation of Ronnie's Dio versatility as a vocalist. Now you've heard Heaven & Hell (Dio, Iommi) from a Dio led Black Sabbath, which is completely different animal than Ozzy led Sabbath. With Geezer Butler's lyrics and Ozzy's monotone nasal voice you get a doomier, dirtier, rawer sound where as with Ronnie handling the lyrics, vocals and co-writing the music you get a much cleaner, polished and edgier sound. Completely different, both great. I feel Ronnie really brought out the best in Tony too... the versatility in Ronnie's voice allowed Tony to do a lot more than he could with Ozzy at the helm. So now it would be nice if you were introduced to late 1970's Dio led Rainbow and Stargazer (Dio, Blackmore) is the song to play. It's not the only song you should listen to with Rainbow but it should be the first. The song is a masterpiece from beginning to end with unbelievable guitar work from Ritchie Blackmore, great keyboard work from Tony Carey and an iconic drum intro by Cozy Powell. What makes this one special though is Ronnie Dio's vocals. PinkMetalHead listened to it during one of her live requests show about 3 months ago and she actually stopped the song halfway thru to let us know that her nipples got hard because of the vocals! Now I can't guarantee you that but you're not human if you don't at least get goosebumps a time or two. His voice is that good.... You two are great and have fantastic chemistry.... Your channel is light years ahead of all the other channels with this format. You simple have no peers. Keep it up....
" Loooove can be seen as the an-sah !......but nobody bleeds for the dan-sah ! " Ronnie has always been my favorite vocalist. The way he pronounces the words and how he takes you to another place. This song is a masterpiece.
Dio - Rainbow in the dark, Don't talk to strangers... and The last in line "We're off to the witch We may never never never come home But the magic that we'll feel is worth a lifetime"
Dio was amazing, don't know what else I can say. His tenure in Black Sabbath was an amazing time and of course the rhythm section of Black Sabbath is second to none. RJD had this gift to not only sing but to us his voice as a musical instrument. R.I.P Brother
Glad to see Heaven and Hell make the playlist with you guys. That album is just fantastic in and of itself, just for the record. I'd also recommend Sign of the Southern Cross off of the Mob Rules album. Such a powerful song. Anyway, everyone else has been saying this, but now that you checked out Dio by himself and Dio in Black Sabbath, it's time for some Rainbow. Stargazer is definitely the song to check out. Easily one of the greatest songs in rock ever composed.
You guys should check out Type O Negative, here's few song suggestions: Black No.1 Love You to Death Cinnamon Girl (cover but still cool) Wolf Moon Anesthesia

Another great video guys. I will never forget the first time I heard this on the radio back in the 80's. I had never really heard heavy metal before. I went straight to the record store and bought this album. I had never done that before. This song opened up an entire world of music appreciation that I lacked. Kudos again guys, well done.
Ronnie was in Sabbath from 1980-1982, again in 1991-1992, and then a renamed Black Sabbath (as Heaven and Hell) from 2007-2010).
RJD RIP
Again - Dio, "The Last In Line." Do it. I'm really curious to see what you think.
Tenacious D also did a fantastic cover of that song.
Ozzy has the type of voice that's like a chanting style. Ronnie James Dio is like an operatic type voice. Both great singers, but two totally different styles. Keep up the great, great work!
Great observations as usual. Sorry you had to edit so much out! Definitely check out Rainbow’s “Stargazer” (featuring Dio on vocals).
RAINBOW - STARGAZER
Yeah this is my favourite RUclips channel. That free thinker mentality is infectious but healthy, and I feel like I'm watching a masterclass on it when I watch you guys discover new music.
My youngest son when he was about ten years old said it perfect, Ronnie James Dio makes everything he sings sound epic. I had a huge proud pops moment
Judas Priest - Dreamer Deceiver. Completely different from what you've heard in Painkiller, but still hands down one of their absolute best works.
Daniel N I second this.
Victim Of Changes best song for me
Julian Fernandez Victim od Changes is also a great pick
It's even better to listen to Dreamer Deceiver and Deceiver together, as those two songs complement each other.
Beyond the realms of death
Please check out Stargazer by Rainbow next!
Headless Cross! Stargazer covering Black Sabbath! (When they were without Dio nor Ozzy, so a lot of amazing potential without a proper voice to express it)
They need to do stargazer
yes More Ronnie James Dio
Best Rainbow and Dio song ever!
Stargazer or Gates of Babylon
Yes! Happy to see you guys react to this classic, the battery life comment was hilarious! Please react to a more recent classic FEAR FACTORY - Self Bias Resistor. It's a milestone band that really shaped what metal is today. And more importantly, it will blow you away!
la porte I just started listening to Fear Factory, and I love them.
Dio don’t talk to strangers
Hell yes you nailed it
Oh yeah.. Dont talk to strangers badass badass song.
They're only there to do you harm......
IM DANGER...IM THE STRANGER
The bass is what you groove to. The drums keep the rhythm, but the bass makes you GROOVE. A good bass line will carry a song.
Give it up to the bass! The low down dirty nasty. The bottom you feel deep inside a mile away
I always like to say that the drums do not keep tempo as much because I see people say that drums keep tempo; drums keep rhythm and provide the style, but the bass is what sets the tempo and groove.
Strung Up tell that to Jack White
Drums + Bass = groove brothers.
That's why they liked NeObliviscaris :)
Instead of keeping with the 32nd notes of the bass drum, the bassist would play 8ths and 4s over the fast double kick and it would still sound groovy.
R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio
Agree....never saw him live and SO regret that. RIP.
Dio had one of the best voices in metal.
He'll always be The Man On The Silver Mountain! To me, since that's when I woke up to him. Peace!
@@jdog6620I had a ticket to the Heaven & Hell tour that got canceled due to Ronnie's health problems. My only chance to hear him live, but it obviously never happened.
He was and still is the KING period.
heaven and hell is a masterpiece
Dio - Last in Line
Totally they should do last in line or Rainbow in the Dark
And All The Fools Sailed Away.... And Invisible....... and.........lol
I believe you boys would maybe know these two songs
Nick that song never used to make me cry until five years ago. 😢
I think this is some of their worst work ever. Dio most certainly does not even come CLOSE to The Grandmaster Ozzy..............JMHO though........
Ozzy Osbourne - No more tears
Yes!
Megadeth "Hangar 18"... When???
Finally you reacted to this...good going guys!
Rainbow - Stargazer
I never clicked that fast on a video x)
Pierre Guyader I know right
😂
Lonely is the Word.. Great song, I was lucky enough to see RJD live with Sabbath during the Mob Rules tour. his voice was so epic.
Rainbow - Stargazer! Please, it's truly a masterpiece!
Not even playing in the same leage like most of the Deep Purple stuff...
Dream Theater - Stargazer, much better!
William I don't dislike that version, but I personally believe that Rainbow's Stargazer is better. I like the mixing better, and the song was made for Dio's voice.
a dream theater cover that's better than the original? Well, there's a first time for everything
This entire album is a masterpiece. Absolutely my favorite album of all time. Great video guys, keep it up!
can you tell me one album from BS, that isnt a masterpiece...????
Peace.
You guys gotta do For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metallica, just......DO IT
Mcjosh799 they have
The only videos I've seen are Enter Sandman, Sad But True, Master of Puppets and One
Nah, dont think they have.
Looks like they did it on Patreon www.patreon.com/posts/metallica-for-30103154
Fleetwood Mac - The Chain...Amazing on all Instruments!
Yes - Roundabout
Neon Knights is something I think you guys would love. Killer groove and progressive in it's own right. Same album.
Mob Rules also
Stargazer -Rainbow !!!!!
Geezer Butler! 🤘
true genius!
Bassist know that Geezer is the best musician in Sabbath.
My bass mentor, the one and only.
Amen🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘💪🖤
Death: crystal mountain, OR flesh and the power it holds
I think they'd appreciate 1000 Eyes too, especially for the lyrics that are still pretty relevant to the end of privacy.
I would DEFINITELY recommend flesh and the power it holds. It has a super powerful meaning.
any song, i just want them to react to them
Story To Tell would be a great choice as well.
A Death song could be good.
Ronnie James Dio is Awsome... this guy developed his voice largely by playing the trumpet when he was young.
He also made a ton of Doo-Woo records in the 50's early 60's. Yep, Dio was into Rock 'n Roll from it's beginning.
Well said, great song! DIO will always be a legend.
Great review! I've been waiting for this one! But...
Mr. Crowley - Ozzy Osbourne (So Ryan can wish he could play guitar even more....)
Fever - Judas Priest (Because Rob Halford)
Exciter or Beyond the realms of death should be next imo.
The Sentinel is such a damn good song and I wholeheartedly agree that there's no such thing as a bad song on Screaming for Vengeance.
"The Last In Line" and "Sacred Heart" are two great Dio songs
Yes! Sacred Heart is a sorely overlooked song and my favorite of Dio's.
Phil Lynott, was the first British black rocker. He not only had his ethnicity to overcome in 70's Britain but was Irish as well. Rest in peace Phil.
Megadeth - Hangar 18
OminousWaveOfMusic o yes please
Dio,what can be said that hasn't already been said. 🤘...he gave metal the horns. Cool that you guys enjoy the classics....DTP PLEASE!!!
Liz * dio...took an Italian superstition and branded it to a metal iconic band.... dio was smart at how he contributed to the genre
Bass is so necessary in rock/metal. Bass players get a lot of shit, but rock/metal song without bass is like a cake without sugar. It might still be good, but it's not as good as it should be.
Ronald Beastly bass to me really centers/holds down a song and adds a richness to it. No bass and I'm out
Amen Ronald Beastly!!! 🐧🐧
Bass adds that low end depth, and when used right helps to keep the band in sync with the drums
And justice for all is the perfect example of that.
Please do at least one of these:
1. Layla - Derek and the Dominos
2. The Boxer - Simon and Garfunkel
3. Time - Pink Floyd
Layla is a great recommendation
Black Sabbath - Children of the grave
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Gates of Babylon from rainbow if you guys want to listen to something unique
Pinto Gates of Babylon along with the whole Long Live Rock N Roll album is phenomenal
Deep Purple - Highway Star
Love to see you guys discover DIO! Try Stargazer from Rainbow next ,Dio is the singer on that.
Deep Purple, Child in Time!
Brian Call Rat Bat Blue, Pictures of Home, or Flight of the Rat!!
Living wreck
I know they don't do live albums, but the "Made in Japan" version just kills :).
" Loooove can be seen as the an-sah !......but nobody bleeds for the dan-sah ! " Ronnie has always been my favorite vocalist. The way he pronounces the words and how he takes you to another place. This song is a masterpiece.
Dio - Rainbow in the dark, Don't talk to strangers... and The last in line "We're off to the witch We may never never never come home
But the magic that we'll feel is worth a lifetime"
Zacarias Blanco Del Fierro
Rainbow in the dark would be amazing! Would love to see them react to that one!
Rainbow - Stargazer
More of Dio's best vocal work 😀
goosebumps on every layers of the music man.....
Love The Mob Rules. I sometimes get stuck on Voodoo and listen to it for my entire 40 minute ride to or from work.
You guys should check out Type O Negative, here's few song suggestions:
Black No.1
Love You to Death
Cinnamon Girl (cover but still cool)
Wolf Moon
Anesthesia
Szweminek797 DUDE!!! YES!!
Absolutely! Any of those songs!
You gotta throw in "Christian Woman" and "I Don't Wanna Be Me".....otherwise great line up!
Rey Reyes seriously!
Type O, YES! Takes me back...
Tony Iommi a great Guitarist
Dio replaced Ozzy sometime after 78 and did this album in 80 and Ozzy had already done his first solo record "The Blizzard of Oz"
Deep Purple - Child In Time please!!!
Złodziej Piasku or Burn if you're more into the Dio style of singing
Yes! The version from Made In Japan preferably. Those screams just tear my heart out every time
Live 1970 BBC TV show version :)
Yes the 1970 version!
