I was once asked why I smile so much. I smile, because my neutral expression tend to seem intimidating to others. (I am tall, have an unattractive face and frizzy hair, and tend to move 'efficiently' rather than femininely). So I started to smile more, and tried to make my body language more 'submissive'. Unfortunately, this actually had an effect on my mind - making me more insecure, and more submissive than my natural self. I have been trying to learn how to fix that, not to be overly dominant, but to be in balance with my natural, confident personality. And one thing I noticed was *HOW* I smiled. Because many people see a smile as 'just a smile'. However, many people use a 'submissive smile', which subconsciously make you feel more insecure. When really, they should be using the 'genuine, confident smile'. Because when an attractive person use a submissive smile, it can increase the attractiveness, because he/she is 'lowering' their status, so a person who considers himself less attractive than her dares to approach. Because he is interested in her, the smile increase her attractiveness, and increase his status, because an attractive woman shows interest/submission to him. However, when an unattractive person use a submissive smile, it can actually decrease the attractiveness. Because the average guy considers her lower status than him, he is not interested in her 'submission'; he can even be directly uncomfortable because he now feels that he must be really unattractive when such an unattractive female dares to approach, because mens status are to some degree based on the attractiveness of the women he is getting with. And no, men are not evil because of this, this is the subconscious mind/biological instincts talking. However, using the genuine confident smile will actually make the unattractive woman more attractive. Maybe not enough to make her super attractive, but it should make a small difference for most.

The same way we usually like the flipped mirror version better than the camera version if ourselves, because we're used to our asymmetric face in the mirror and therefore doesn't notice it?

As an adult, I've come to find that while smiling while showing teeth can be inviting to people and make you look approachable, it can also signal to manipulative and anti-social personality types that you're easy prey. Also if you're a person with significant resources that other people want (financial/material and/or a high sexual market value i.e. beautiful/great build, etc), a wide toothy smile tends to attract even the most diametrically opposed people i.e. unattractive individuals and those who are not of your socioeconomic group. It can also unfortunately have the effect of making one look less intelligent than they are which goes back to the first reason, which is that it makes you look easily manipulable. A stern, resting bitch face may make you look too aloof and unapproachable on the other hand, such that it may discourage people from wanting to form valuable relationships with you, and you may end up loosing out on great opportunities because of this. Think of the number of times you've heard someone great say that they wanted to approach someone else and ask them out on a date, but that person they wanted to ask out was just too intimidating to approach. I've found that a good middle ground is to do what Tyra Banks calls smiling with your eyes, and smiling slightly with your mouth closed such that your lips are only slightly upturned. This gives you both a degree of approachability but it also has enough seriousness to keep manipulators away. It gives people the sense that your warm enough to deal with, but also intelligent and trust worthy to not take crap from anyone.
I hate when people tell me to smile more for the pictures, when I smile my face gets rounder and I have weird teeth, and idk how to make my eyes look happy so the smiles look extremely fake and I end up looking terrible and feeling bad after looking at the photo, which is the exact opposite effect that I was meant to have 💀
I look weird too, like that hide-the-pain-harold meme, you know? I heard somewhere that it has something to do with the jaw - that certain people look like they’re in pain when they’re smiling, but I don’t know what it is for sure 🤣 It would be great if he could make a video on this topic

So I think it just kinda depends
My already big nose just becomes more wide and big, and all the angles of my face disappear and I look like an egg (my sister compares me to Pennywise). It's embarrassing

"Showing one's teeth is a submission signal in primates. Once someone smiles at me, all I see is a chimpanzee begging for its life" Wise words from Dwight Schrute.

The Victoria Secret models smile because they're selling lingerie, the product (the women and the lingerie) suggests fun, inviting, party-time, available, willing, open, etc.
Exactly the other high fashion runway models dont smile because they are literally supposed to be like a blank canvas showcasing the clothes. Solution: Smile without teeth. Not an entirely neutral expression so it still gives you the benefit of drawing others in yet yet if you have big cheeks (like me) you don't end up looking like a chipmunk.
Studies have shown that a closed smile is worse than a neutral face and gets rated as the least attractive of all 3 options, as it is inauthentic and doesn’t convincingly convey positive emotion. You might want to look into it
@@ltotheop7512 true, I always notice how the ones smiling with teeth on the schoolphoto look WAY better than those with a closed smile. Smiling with teeth just brings more attention to the face as a whole and looks natural and genuine. A closed smile seems more forced and less geniune.

Honestly these kind of videos are depressing. We already know that beautiful people are beautiful. And still were looking for 1000 of reasons why someone is beautiful.
I love knowing why people are beautiful. Most features that we find attractive are evolutionary based and other societal. But most people wouldn't be able to pin down exactly what it is about a person that makes them attractive. This breaks it down

My male cousins don't smile or even laugh and no one ever tells them otherwise smh
People over think so much lmao Smiling is good, it means you're happy so who cares if you look better not smiling. If you want to be happy, allow yourself to smile more The reason models don't smile btw is because they're advertising the product, make up , clothes etc. Smiling can be distracting as some models have weird smiles on cam, plus it's hard to fake a natural smile. Serious look can be sexy if you're trying to appear dominant and powerful, that's about it. Smiling can be sexy cuz it's happy
something that worked for me is- if you start pretending you are confident, attractive etc you actually become it. it’s something i’ve done and it truly works, starting from pretending makes people around you treat you like it , then your state of mind follows. granted, some people are naturally born with beauty, but behaviour makes a lot of difference
But Based on my observation most of the people criticized to attractive people (especially for women) if he/she doesn't smile in photos they're saying " I don't like , looks repulsive, looks insincere " for justify their jealousy.

Don't force yourself to smile, only smile when it's genuine. Keep a neutral expression most of the time (makes you look more mature and saves you from wrinkles)
Hi Qoves Studio. I am actually glad that you acknowledged that the beauty culture in the anglosphere is different than the rest of the world. In your beauty culture series I believe your intentions of distinguishing beauty standards by ethnic features was in the right place, however, you missed one MAJOR point. That is those of us who are minorities that were born and raised in western cultures are held to the same beauty standards as caucasians. I think this is why for example an African American, Indian Americans, or Asian American will be ranked a 3 on the 1-10 looks scale in America the more their ethnic features stand out, but they'll be ranked a 6 on the African, Indian, or Asian continent. Which you acknowledge in your video, but I think the difference is that minorities raised in predominantly westernized Anglo cultures also rank each other by caucasian standards of beauty. So again for example most Africans born on the African continent would rank a certain African American a 6 on the 1-10 looks scale, but in America most of the OTHER African Americans would rank him/her a 3 just as there white American counterparts would. Because they all sat infront of the same television shows, looked at the same magazine pictures, watch the same movies showing caucasian facial features as being the standard of beauty. Anyway this was just something to think...
Why do people ask me "what's wrong?" when I have a neutral face. It happens all the time. Because of this I've learned to smile all the time. So I sorta look like a dope.
You probably have a resting frown. You could train yourself to a more neutral resting mouth posture that would look more natural than smiling all the time.
I agree when men don't smile they are seen as cool and serious but when woman don't smile you're seen as a stuck up person who thinks they are better then others
Although I will say, I have met some people that when they break into a huge smile- you almost feel blessed to have witnessed it. The kind of smile that makes your heart flutter ✨☺️ that’s how beautiful some smiles are.
i've always hated smiling and only would smile in pictures when i really felt happy in that moment, and now when i look back i can tell the times i was really happy and the times where i'm just posing
Great points, but what really makes this phenomenon work, is that when you rarely smile, the other person wants to see it again. It's the mystery aspect that every person goes crazy for. If you smile too much, people get used to it and it's just another thing that doesn't really stand out even if you have a beautiful smile. But honestly, if you want to smile then do it. I like people who smile more because they seem to be the most easy-going and really they don't give af whether they appear serious or "hot."
lol most of the time, people I've met always told me that i need to smile more, i look so serious when in fact i'm not-it's just my face. sometimes i am unaware that i project an "intimidating" look to others. i don't smile often but that doesn't mean my life is always falling apart ugh.
I request you to analyse 'Hrithik Roshan's' face he is the one with the ideal jaw in your "analysing jaws video", and also please assess why do many forums consider him the most handsome man in the world. Thank you
I’ve always thought of this as well ;- People who always try to be in the centre of attention are the least ones to obtain it. People who try and avoid being in the centre of attention actually obtain it instead. What I mean by “being in the centre of attention” is basically something like laughing loudly at something, smiling all the time, throwing jokes all the time or constantly talking. I’ve also noticed that the majority of people are sexually attracted to those whose personalities or “aura” is on the colder apathetic side.
in my experience, people who clearly seek attention all the time can get tiring and annoying. instead of wanting to learn more about them, you end up hearing more than you'd care to know and wishing they would just chill for once
No celebrities are HORRIBLE examples when it comes to being praised as the most beautiful, or the hottest, or sexist personal life. Because it is all about fame with no real substance behind it; if you are popular you're automatically considered the most beautiful. Go back and read some magazines from 30 years ago and you will see that the majority of the people EVERYONE screamed was the most beautiful person ever! Is no longer even mentioned, let alone remembered; because they fade it out of popularity. That is why people still talk about Halle Berry at 50 years old like her looks can compete with that over 20 year olds yet no one talks about Sharon Stone, Michelle Pfeiffer, or Kim Basinger any longer, I looked up pictures of all 3 recently and for women in their 60s!!! They all still look good. BUT unlike Halle, those three are not putting out hit movies, so no more calls them beautiful anymore.
He's much more than a teen hearthrob these days. The guy's been putting out quality movies for the last 3-4 years and is only getting better with tenet and batman. Talking about aesthetics, i don't really have any issue about him being considered as having one of the most desirable facial symmetries in the world right now.
I’ve been commenting this! Literally the most attractive face I’ve ever seen on a man. Yes, that’s my opinion not a fact, but I just want to see him break down why he’s so gorgeous to me!
I like that your videos don't sugarcoat things. Interesting topic. I was told that i'm happy-go-lucky and friendly all throughout my life. But i changed and became more reclusive recently. I joined a 2 month training program last October, and strangely enough more people were attracted to me in my aloof state than there were before
I do think that smiling more often primes a face as it ages to be more attractive as upturned lips at the corners are a sign of youth. Edit: awesome I see you touched on this in the last quarter of the video!
➡️ Beware of people who smiles a lot. As a survivor of toxic relationships guess who loves to portrait friendliness thus smiles more? Narcissistic ppl, psychopaths, etc. It's a way to drawn their victims in and to hide their sinister personality.
I usually never smile for pictures and it's because I think i look weird in pictures when I do smile and my friends who ALWAYS smile for pictures ask me how I do it? Like, how can I not smile for pictures??? I just find it more comfortable. I smile for pictures when I'm actually having fun and it works for me. Fake smile just looks weird but people keep telling me to smile for pictures and it's so freaking annoying. Just let people do what they want.
Does anyone know how models can hold their focus and expression without laughing? I can’t do more than two or three pictures without cracking myself up.
trust me, when you are a model it gets harder to smile than to have an expressionless face. If you are really serious about your modeling career, you have to start thinking like an adult and stop laughing at everything. These models get paid to do something, better be good at it.
Great video as always! :) But there are a lot of 'smiles'. There is the genuine, confident one, the award smile, the fake smile, the submissive/unconfident smile that asks the receiver for validation, and so on. I would love to hear your thoughts on how the different types might affect attractiveness? I find that insecure people often use the 'submissive' smile (and unattractive people are often insecure), and wonder if this could be the reason why smiles have such a small effect on unattractive people; because they tend to use a smile that lowers their status even more?
in south asia, india pak bangladesh, we prefer people with neutral expressions whether they are more attractive or less attractive. In case of women, laughing or smiling is mistaken that they are available to every man.
Can you pls make a video of what facial expressions look best on different facial shapes (heart, oval, square, etc.). It would indeed be interesting to know that information
Basically either we are attractive or we are not, and there is somewhat of a standard of beauty that a person may have and that most people would find attractive. Also, the "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" quote has truth to it as well.
I don't know if it falls under the channel content, but: *you should make a video on "objective" Vs "subjective" attractiveness* I mean, why many times we see an objectively attractive person (symmetry, features...), but still don't feel attractive to him/her, in other words he/she is not your 'type"? I, personally, am not attracted to many men who the media, and my friends go crazy about, like, Chris Hemsworth, David Beckham, Hrithik Roshan and other models and Instagram models. I know that they are objectively handsome, but still I don't feel attracted to them...I just CAN'T. I am South Asian (Pakistan). It has something to do with the culture?
@@n.m.9938 honestly, I was LITERALLY thinking about this last night. (Althought Chris Hemsworth is the only one I find handsome and hot at the same time, but not even his brothers do it for me tho). Not to say that I don't like conventianlly atractiveness, most people I like are conventianlly attractive, but there's always a level of "they might not be everyone's cup of tea".
Well that makes sense since I know other people with the same preference. Try Italian men for experiment. Maybe they're more close to the preference? 😂 Anyways, maybe Desi looks appeal more to you. 🤷♂️ To each their own.
I haven't watched the video only read the title but if I ever were a model I'd also won't smile even when I'm told to do so. My smiling face just isn't it at all.

Men in most non western countries still seek mostly anglo looking women, or at least that's the case for mine

Great points, but what really makes this phenomenon work, is that when you rarely smile, the other person wants to see it again. It's the mystery aspect that every person goes crazy for. If you smile too much, people get used to it and it's just another thing that doesn't really stand out even if you have a beautiful smile. But honestly, if you want to smile then do it. damn queen
I got an ad with the same girl from the cover right before thw video... cool.
like every other talent, beauty is also god given

this is so interesting bc i feel like i dont look good when im not smiling
ur smile is gorgeous!! :)))
