While the big news may seem to be that this car will arrive in early 2024 with a price tag of just $35K, the real news here is what you get and what you don't: Google's operating system on a large center screen; stylish, comfortable seats in leatherette if you like; wireless Apple CarPlay and sharp LED headlights. Oh, and 268 HP and a 275 mile range. Upgrade for a panoramic sunroof, heated seats and the premium sound bar from Harman Kardon. Even with everything, including the dual motor with AWD, 422 HP and a 265 mile range, the price is still under $47K.

My Citroën C4 Picasso is twelve or thirteen years old. Its display is in the middle of the dash, like the Volvo. Absolutely not a problem.
I tho l you might find Citroen stopped that approach because people didn’t like it.

I liked how the reviewer dealt with using main screen was "Super Easy"

Question, on a bright sunny day and the driver wears sunglasses, will the sensor have a fit, lol ?
A speedo or HUD can easily be downloaded to a mobile phone and placed in front of the driver.
The only thing which I don’t like is lack of instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. At least they could have keep a minimum display as we can see in byd atto3
Still wish there was a driver's display but everything else about the car is intriguing enough for me to overlook that, especially since I've driven a car with a center-mounted gauge cluster for a while (Toyota Yaris)
I recently took this for a test drive and i've never driven a car with central mounted cluster or an electric car for that matter. I thought I was going to really hate it and find it frustrating - but no, it's really great!! I don't think it would take long to get used to it.
How tall Are you ? For measurement.
I like a lot of things this car has to offer. Unfortunately, being 6 feet tall, not being able to seat someone behind be who is also 6 feet tall is an issue.

Torn between one of these or an MG4 XPower. The Volvo is very pretty but I'm not in love with the idea of doing everything via an iPad.

What's the definition of an SUV ? The original definition of an SUV was a smaller version of a Utility Vehicle such as Land Rover Defender, Willys Jeep, etc -- aimed at Young Sporty people who loved surfing, jet skiing and travelling off-road to find a nice spot to camp or fish - hence the term SUV . The originals SUVs such as the Mini Pajero and the Suzuki can trailer - tow a Jet Ski or a small boat and drive on a beech without a getting stuck. The essential features of an SUV is high ground clearance ( at least 8 inches ) , a 4 wheel dive system with a low range transfer-case and locking differentials. Mitsubishi Pajero iO is one of the earlier generations of an SUV.
Manufacturers introduce d " All wheel Drive " systems which offer good traction and reduces aqua-planning., but they are not proper Suva. The AWD systems are a " cross " between the two wheel drive and Four wheel drive systems -- - hence the vehicles are properly and technically called " Crossovers " . Most Cross - overs do not NOT offer Low-range locking differentials. Manufacturers found a niche market in promoting almost all high riding vehicles as SUVs - and conning the buyers into thinking that these front wheel drive vehicles are SUVs. Shame on them.

Correct, it is not the base model; manufacturers rarely show off the base model. However, we did see some of the details available on the base model on the vehicle in the studio.
A key FOB is much better than a card. It's very easy to lose a card. Most people lose their credit cards and other cards all the time. I do.

HOW could the lack of a drivers display could EVER BE USEFUL and less distracting? How?
Volvo is supposed to be a " Safety " conscious car maker and then introduces a iPad like screen that requires taking your eye off the road. I hope that the car has a head - up display. Most Voice control systems are useless for people who who have a different accent, or their mother -tongue is not English. I would love too see a Glaswegian using a voice controlled system on a car. Would be hilarious. Some of these car designers are thick as two thick planks. I own a Volvo XC60 AWD D5 Geartronic, so I am somewhat qualified to criticise .

Why would you make a car that you have to go through menus on an iPad to open a glove box ? . Constantly having to look away from the road. Unsafe

The glove box has its own button on the screen, no need to browse menu. And yeah, the other comment here is on point.

NO! Do not wish to drive with an i pad. I also prefer to keep eyes on the road and use touch on buttons or knobs.
Always enjoyed Volvo and have owned one not an EV. I like the feel, safety and design.
Get another car and stay in the past. You can also get an XC40 or C40.
@@MisterKarib XC40 and C40 also have a touch screen. They have a few more buttons, but not that many more.
I recently tested one - first time with this kind of setup in a car and It doesn't feel unsafe at all, i'ts just different. Try it out before oyu rule it out, honestly. I was expecting to hate this set up but loved it instead.
Time and time again people are saying they want a drivers display. We don’t want to crock our necks to look at an offset screen.
Even Tesla drivers have to admit they just tolerate this dated gimmicky nonsense rather than actually preferring it.
Lol you don’t even have to move your neck. My model 3 center screen is just fine. I don’t have a preference.
Personalet, I Love it in my model3. Driving when it`s dark is much more relaxing than when you have that light in the face all the time.

Volvo today is not than Chinese junk , i have a 2022 electric Volvo with lot of problem , all the parts MADE IN CHINA , i change the battery under warranty and now the electric motor is very noisy BACK ORDER FROM CHINA , rusted underneath and water inside leak like a pool , DONT BUY VOLVO ,, you can pay half price for a similar Chinese car
