Andy Dick, the bit actor and sometimes comedian, spent the mid-to-late ‘80s developing his improv skills and honing a stand up routine. This led to regular television roles and sometimes movies. But this wouldn’t last long, because he had a raging addiction, that made him the absolute worst friend to have in Hollywood.

He's certainly lived up to his name.

You beat me to it.
I was going to say that too :/

He's a real Andyhead.

When John Lovitz successfully kicks your ass, you've hit rock bottom.
I have much respect for Lovitz. He straightened out a few guys back the day. Lovitz is a good friend and protector of his buddies/comedians stealing jokes that people worked hard on writing. You will see very few people in Hollywood today that make things right. Godspeed Farley, Hartman and his wife.

@@Intheflesh79 Oh... They play back. They just play for keeps.
Sometimes people become addicts to try to run away from being bad people. It doesn't help. It just makes things worse.
When I lived in Hollywood, everyone I knew locally had an Andy Dick story. They were never, ever good.
I lived next to Barney's and would see him at 7-11 after bars closed from time to time.
I met Andy in a bar in Wynyard Saskatchewan and he asked me if there was a guy in town he could bump uglies with. I told him yeah, but it was going to cost him 300.00, 100.00 for me setting up the tryst and 100.00 for the intended paramour. He said that's only 200.00. I then reminded him of the guy required to hold down his partner and he said after only a slight pause, okay. He even bought me a beer after. Nice guy.

I guess Bam can still look at Andy and say “I’m not that bad”.
Bam seems like the kind of guy who has a LOT of issues, but deep down, he seems like he wants to be a better person and is struggling very hard to get there. Andy Dick doesn't seem like he has any desire to be anything more than an awful person who would rather drag the whole world down with him.

Druggies are never true friends. Just suppliers.
yeah, I never had addiction issues and stayed away from addictive stuff, but hung with a bunch of druggies being an inner city artsy type. I am very much a social butterfly so always knew people who knew people for connections. i kind of quietly decided to stop hanging out for a while, and only got calls to ask if I knew anyone, eventually I was forgotten about.

That's really sad 😔
What makes it worse is that that's pretty typical for kids in care and foster care
He had plenty of opportunities in adulthood to turn it around. Way more than the average person ever gets. Instead he made it catastrophically worse at every turn.

"A Piano in the House." I always loved it that the larger lady (Marge, played perfectly by Muriel Landers) wanted to be a dancer, and described it so beautifully (and moved so beautifully while the piano was playing). Barry Morse (of Space: 1999 fame) played Fitzgerald Fortune perfectly.

I knew about Phil Hartman and Chris Farley tragic passing but i had no idea Andy Dick was involved in both of their demises. And others.
Very sad to see.
David Strickland was dead about 6 months after I saw him in person at a SUDDENLY SUSAN filming in Sept. 1998. I liked him & his character and thought it was all a terrible tragedy. I remember reading that Andy Dickh**d was involved somehow. This all happened 25 years ago now.
I've always liked John Lovitzs, and now I love him even more.
I'll never understand it. Some people get opportunities handed to them that most people could only dream of. Yet, they throw it all away because of a total lack of self control.
Well said.
That’s because when they see the slightest hint of success, their ego gets giant. And they think they’re above the law and common human decency.
I don't think its that hard making it in entertainment, just be in the right places to meet the right people.
I think it's because Andy Dick was able to produce results on camera, aside from all his off-camera troubles. Hollywood only ever seems to care if you're a problem AT work; not outside of work.
This guy's a real jerk
Andy Dick is the worst but these people made their own choices. Personal responsibility people.
True. Especially the bit about Phil Hartman's wife. Coke didn't make her kill, Andy's coke didn't make her kill... she was a jealous lunatic & killer.
But the sa and groping?
Exactly.
Blaming Andy Dick for what that crazy bitch Brynn Hartman did is a stretch.
Tell that to Phil Hartman
I was familiar with Andy when he was a kid. His dad was an officer on the submarine base I was at. Andy was early teens and was a squirrel. He ran with the teen girls and caused all kinds of problems, security hated him.
Last time I saw him was when our base opened a bowling alley and an admiral came to the opening. Mr. and Mrs Dick, his brother, and Andy were part of the receiving line and Andy was dancing around like a marionette. I felt bad for his dad, who was a good man, because the behavior of kids reflects heavily in the office and Andy either could not, or would not, behave for a few minutes.
Remarkable. I imagine that the 'pain' the video attributes to would be his father's absence since submariners have long deployments. Nevertheless an officer would have bestowed a comfortable entitlement lifestyle. Obviously the USUAL "victim" nonsense excuses prevail..
@@christopherfritz3840 He was on a boomer, missile boat, so the absence would be three months at sea, three at home. Mr Dick was on shore duty at time.
Andy's brother, they were adopted so I don't know if siblings or at what age adopted, was close to the parents. Andy was hyper and ran with a group of way too young and too cute girls. Bad combo in Navy base. Andy seemed oblivious to the trouble or simply didn't care. He was only a few years younger than I but worlds apart as I was a petty officer and had joined Navy at 17. He was around 14 so I was 18 or 19.

For some reason l've always liked Andy Dick. I've always thought if he had gotten his demons under control, he could have been a huge comedic actor. He's naturally funny. But a lot of behavior is inappropriate and some downright diabolical. I doubt he will ever sober up. It's unfortunate.

Andy Dick is one giant example why you should never try drugs or drink alcohol. 🍸
Do not blame the substances, He causes pain and sows destruction because he WANTS TO. The booze and drugs are an excuse.
Or being adopted?
No. Substances are great. Life is boredom. Not everyone acts that way. Only a moron thinks everyone acts the same on their vices of choice.
What an absolutely ridiculous thing to say. I guess people should never try cheeseburgers, drive on the highway, climb mountains, or go swimming..... something bad might happen!!!! Grow up.

Anyone remember that 'reality show' he had where the winner became his assistant. I WONDER what happened to that girl that took the "prize".. 😬

Boggles the mind he's still walking the earth, what's he living off of? Drugs are probably expensive and he hasn't worked in forever.
I would say maybe he’s still getting royalties off news radio but i haven’t seen that show in syndication for years now

Chris Farley's death sent shock waves through the comedy world? The tabloids widely predicted that he would be the next celebrity to die, and he was.
Farley himself predicted he would die the same age as Belushi, and it seems like he did everything he could to make it happen.
Shock means "a sudden upsetting or surprising event". Just because you know the chances of something happening are high, doesn't make it less upsetting or "shocking "
At least we got Tommy Boy first...
if he didn't o d......he wouldn't have lived much longer because of his physical health....😒
We're talking about one of the most famous comedians/actors at the time. It's not like he was 15-20 years removed from the height of his fame, he was in the middle of it. It also matters that people were mostly just seeing him in movies, and he looked fine there. It was 1997 after all. People didn't have constant feeds of photos of him looking bad.
So while I agree it wasn't a total surprise he died, it was still shocking and impactful.

Alcohol and drugs will do it to you every time, I no longer drink alcohol, but I was heading down the same path over ten years ago. Btw, I worked at a hotel in Austin in the early 2000s and Andy was staying there during the early years of SXSW. He was pretty smashed a lot!
One of my exes lived a similar lifestyle. When we were together she was high more often than not. Eventually after I divorced her her addictions caught up with her, she OD'd. I see a similar fate for Andy.
Very sad
In the mid 2000s Andy was sent to a treatment center in Cleveland Ohio called the Ed Keating Center. I know this because I was in that treatment center right before he came in. I was coming back for after care, to pick guys up for AA meetings. He was very to him self, and obviously he did not stay sober. Thought I’d share my Andy Dick story.
Andy Dick carries demons around. Good on Lovitz!
In 2003, I saw him at a water park in Palm Springs. He was there by himself and was well-known from MTV and movies. He was wandering around, looking at everyone in the locker rooms, which gave off a weird, kind of gay vibe. Interestingly, no one seemed to notice him, and he looked upset about not getting any attention. He was wandering around for a while. If I had known about his involvement with Chris Farley and Phil Hartman, I would have gone all John Lovitz crazy too. The last name "Dick" really suits him perfectly..what POS
I don't think Andy can be blamed for what happened to Hartman. Brynn was known to be violent even when sober, and was well known to the SNL cast to be physically violent toward Phil long before he started working on News Radio. She really hated that he was successful, and only got worse the more successful Phil became. Maybe Andy gave her coke, but she was rotten before that.
Phil Hartman is perhaps the funniest man ever. So wrong what happened to him and he was trying to do the right thing as a husband.
He's partly blamable though.
@@alukuhito agreed, Dick does not have clean hands in that situation or really any of them mentioned in this video, that is fair to say.

Fair enough toi if that was your experience.
I have a buddy who is in the industry in LA. He was eating pizza at a restaurant with his wife one night when Andy Dick came in. Andy went around to all the tables begging for pizza bones. He would sit down with people and grab the pizza bones off of their plates, and eat them. If you don’t know what pizza bones are, they are the crust part that you don’t want to eat. Eventually, the manager came over and had to physically throw him out. I don’t know if he was broke and starving, or if he was just doing one of his drug addled stunts.

He was a common sight in bars in Palm Springs for a few years in the 2010s. He was always stumbling around drunk and on something, taking down his own pants and trying to take pants off other men. He tried yanking down my pants once but failed. I pushed him back and sat him on a bus bench, where he tipped over on his side and stayed there. It was a sad sight but everyone who encountered him had had enough.
At some stage, either he begins helping himself or asks for help & then there's only so many times people are willing to jump on that merry-go-round let alone watch it spin out of control time after time.

I never saw the draw to this guy or kathy griffin. They were inseparable for a while there. To be sober for as long as some of his friends were, they should have not been involved with him if he was using. They made their choices. We can't blame the addicts inabilities on to someone else. That is another form of enabling. I'm sure his addictions played a part in his antics, however there is a behavioral component here that is sexual in nature. Maybe some underlying abuse he experienced? He as other should always seek help with addiction. Its perfectly ok to reach out for help. At the end of the day you lay your head on that pillow and lie to yourself about being ok...and only you agree.
Thank you. Agreed.
How does he survive financially?

I don’t like when people blame others for their own addictions. If their sobriety meant that much to them, they wouldn’t be hanging out with Andy Dick.
