  • Once again, I am making my way to Switzerland via London for the Axalp Swiss Air Force Display in the Alps.
    After checking in, it was time to enjoy the Qantas First Lounge at Sydney Airport.
    Time for a late lunch, Salt & Pepper Squid, Grain Fed Beef Cheeseburger and a Signature Pavlova... then some time to chill out before boarding the flight.
    VH-OQG was the A380-800 taking us to Singapore, then London.
    As usual, plenty of food on offer, and for Economy, it was all very good and tasty.
    I also managed to score the entire row of 4 seats (Row 88) which allowed some sleep time lying down.
    Flight left on time, arriving early in to Singapore.
    Got to spend some time in the Singapore Qantas First Lounge, enjoying some Salt and Pepper Squid (Sydney's was better)... & the Signature Laksa with Crawfish.
    Managed to score the whole back row again to myself, and managed to get a solid 8hrs sleep.
    Plenty of food & drink available, and an awesome crew made this 14hr flight go by very quickly.
    The flight was originally due to arrive slightly earlier than scheduled, but bad weather around London Heathrow put an end to that, with a few loops in a holding pattern we made it.
    Now for the crazy scramble to get to T5 for a flight to Geneva.

      They certainly are and it is a big incentive to maintain Platinum Status (OneWorld Emerald).

    Why is the plane nearly empty??every time we fly this route it’s packed full !

      It was close to full. When walking through the cabin I am one of the first to board (due to frequent flyer status).

    I flew QF1 to London at the end of October '23 & I cannot say the same as you about the flight. The Magnum arrived so frozen I could've used it as an offensive weapon & needed 10 minutes before it was edible. The only meal I felt was any good was the breakfast before Heathrow, the rest were very mediocre. As for Singapore, you lucky sod. The area they kept us in had no food outlets bar a Chinese take away with trays of very suss looking food. They told us it would be a 2 hour layover yet after barely an hour we were being processed again for re-boarding. I had barely time to stretch my legs from one end of the area we were in to the other. I will not set foot on a Qantas international flight again. Internal flights within Australia are a different story with little to no problems other than the 717 to Sydney overran the parking marker so we had to wait around 15 minutes for a tug to push the plane back to the correct mark so the airbridge could connect, then the airbridge broke down, so another 20 minutes for that to be fixed. I just made it around to the international terminal on the bus in time for check-in.

      I believe my flight was around the 13th of October, as in the video no issues, but I think it was either QF1 or QF11 earlier in the year where the ice cream was like a brick encased in dry ice (solid). The food though has always been good, at worst ok, but every flight is different.
      Lounge access is something that is truly appreciated, and yes, the stopover in Singapore can be rushed, unfortunately the security screening at the gate, plus re-boarding starting 45 minutes prior to departure barely gives you an hour on the ground (this is the same for all airlines at SIN unfortunately).
      The beautiful thing with travel is there are options available in most cases.

    Awesome review but did they not give out Amenity Kits ?

    • @ausflyer

      I need to remember to include that on my next video. They do hand them out, plus they are freely available in the back self serve snack area. Usual inclusion, eye mask, toothbrush, toothpaste...

    I guess you have frequent flyer status to access the lounges? The one in Sydney looks much nicer than those I usually use or in more and more cases don’t use because of overcrowding. No disrespect to you but the lounge experience in many airports is not what it used to be when it was literally for business/1st class passengers only. Thanks for the upload.

    • @ausflyer
      @ausflyer  9 месяцев назад

      Yes, Platinum Status with Qantas which allows me access to lounges such as Qantas First. Almost all of my travel is international, and whilst I know of the crowding in the Domestic Lounges, it is even worse in some European airports where the lounges allocated to some OneWorld partners, are simply Pay to Access lounges, and they are pretty much always a zoo. An exception to this would be the Vienna Lounge in Austria, I was there yesterday and for a lounge that isn't allocated purely for First passengers, or high tier frequent flyers, it was amazing.. I will take all the perks I can given most of my flying is in economy.

    Hey there we are doing this flight in May and i wanted to ask do you feel we would have time to see the Jewel in between our flights. We have a 2 hr layover. Thanks so much in advance.

      Unless the SYD to SIN flight is early, or the SIN to LHR flight is delayed, you won’t have enough time.
      Once the flight from Sydney arrives you would need to clear Singapore Immigration (paperwork done on the MyICA app), then exit the Terminal and go across the road. (Distance is not an issue).
      Then you will need to be through immigration at least 1hr before the LHR flight and head to the gate, which can at times be one of the gates towards the end of the D pier. Then you have full security screening at the gate (no liquids over 100ml etc etc). Boarding usually commences 45 minutes prior to departure.
      If it was just to view the Jewel Waterfsll, & stretch your legs, yes it is possible. And only really with a longer break could you make it worthwhile.

      I uploaded a video a couple of weeks ago which features the Jewel and a brief overview of the terminal on my Qantas/Finnair flight from Singapore to Sydney

    You sat near the toilet, is it noisy?

    • @ausflyer
      @ausflyer  6 месяцев назад

      I always try and sit in the back row as a lot of the time I end up with the row to myself.
      I have never found the toilets to be an issue with 3 of the 4 toilets being some distance away.

    What's the recline feel like for the back bulkhead rows? Any difference between that and the regular rows?

    • @ausflyer
      @ausflyer  6 месяцев назад

      "Technically" the recline is meant to be 1-2cm less than other seats, but with body weight in the seat I have never noticed a difference.
      The massive advantage is you never have anyone behind you pulling back on the seat to get up, or the heavy handed person using the touch screen a little too enthusiastically.

    • @Monte1985Cristo
      @Monte1985Cristo 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@ausflyer Cheers mate. I'm at the end of the second economy section (ahead of the galley, rather than the loos) on QF1 in a couple of weeks, and thought that unless the seats were completely locked and had next to no recline, the advantage of being able to recline the entire time (no courtesy waiting for bed time!) would negate any loss of recline.

    • @ausflyer
      @ausflyer  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@Monte1985Cristo I have changed from Row 88 to Row 77 on a few QF1/2's and both rows are exactly the same.
      I find Row 88 is a little quieter as the section immediately behind the seats is a storage area, plus the self service snack and drink cabinet.
      And yes, being able to recline the seat for the entire flight is a bonus.

    • @Monte1985Cristo
      @Monte1985Cristo 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@ausflyer Hmm, very good point on the quieter front. Additionally, the third economy cabin has 10 rows (4 of which have some obstructions that reduce seating numbers further) compared to 12 rows in the second cabin. Our upcoming flight is pretty chockers, but row 86 has a couple of suitable openings (88 is booked out!). Might make the switch to 86 off the back of your video here and seeing the amount of room around the snack bar. Hopefully not a giant line for the loos that way snaking down the aisle.

    Why is sydney airport so ugly

    • @ausflyer
      @ausflyer  8 месяцев назад

      Definitely not ugly from the First Class Lounge, or any of the newly opened retail area (some of which is only a few months old).
      If you are referring to the check in area, with the exception of Helsinki, I don't know of any airport that has that area looking anything other than ok.
