3:17 In Japan They Are Careful With Their Portion Sizes

8:57 The Japanese View Eating Differently
9:57 The Japanese Eat a Lot of Fish
11:04 Eating a Variety of Land and Sea Vegetables in Japan
    SUMMARY:
    - One thing that you will find is that in the fast food joints in Japan, the food on offer is generally a lot healthier and far less calorific.
    - For the majority of the Japanese households, mealtimes are set and everyone in the home will eat at the same time.
    - In Japan, the portion sizes are much, much smaller. They even have a saying “hara hachi buchi me”, which roughly means, eat until you’re 8/10ths full.
    - One thing that you will notice about the Japanese is that they eat most of their meals with chopsticks. This makes eating at a high speed more difficult, which is great because it means that you are fuller for longer and your food is digested properly.
    - The Japanese drink a lot of green tea. If you have looked into drinking green tea before, then you will already be well aware of the fact that there are plenty of health benefits that come with doing so.
    - Japanese diets tend to be high in carbs but very low in fat. They eat a lot of vegetables and lean meats, accompanied by fish and grains. What makes their diet so healthy is the fact that it is very low in saturated fat.
    - Japanese are not necessarily enjoying a rice cake and a cup of green tea, but maybe their healthier outlook on snacks is one of the reasons why they they are able to keep so fit.
    - The Japanese have a different view regarding eating. Their food and mealtimes are treated with the utmost respect.
    - As well as sushi being a staple of the diet for most Japanese people, they also tend to eat a lot of pickled and fermented fish.
    - When taking a look at a traditional Japanese diet, one of the things that you will notice is that they consume a large number of both land and sea vegetables.

A lot of Asians are almost too thin (partially because we have less protein). Health should also account for strength. Although I believe Asian muscle may be denser, I don’t see much of it.

Actually, eating with knife and fork is slower. Pre-cut foods with chopsticks is faster. Asian foods is high in carbohydrates with noodles, rice, breaded foods, and steamed buns. A good Asian diet includes vegetables and fish. Variety and not just beef and hamburgers. They drink sugary drinks and lots of beer and alcohol. But they balance this with lots of walking and smaller portions. Many smoke.

You got that right. In the school district i work for here in NY State I'd have to estimate just 1 in 50 women teachers are what I'd call lean. I particularly see soooo many younger women who are overweight. I attribute most of it to lack of self respect. This anguish then manifests itself as anger which could be why we have so many angry people in this country. The reason I reference women only is because I work with so few male teachers.

The video doesn't mention lifestyle beyond different eating habits. Something noticeable is that riding bicycles is a major source of transportation, whereas the U.S. is a car dependent country. In Japan, it is common to see people in their suits ride to the bicycle garage, and then take the train to work. In the U.S., its common to see people drive to to a parking garage, and then take a train to work. The car dependent reality plus jobs that don't require much physical activity in addition to bad eating habits/fatty foods, greatly contributes to obesity. When I lived in Japan I rode my bike everywhere...to the supermarket, to the doctor, to the neighboring town, etc. Back in the states, I didn't own a bicycle, lol.

I lost 12lbs in China in the span of 3 months. When in Rome do as the Romans do. I just ate Chinese food 90% of the time. Living in China made me realize that my diet was the main reason for being so overweight. I probably would have lost even more had I lived in Japan! Although in China I was a 15 minute walk from the nearest mall (where the giant supermarket was) so walking there and back 2-5 times a week definitely helped.

But even if you make no change to your food intake, drinking water instead of soft drinks or alcohol will make a HUGE difference!
