Hey everyone! How much do you weigh? 🙂 What is your dream weight? Here's a Japanese method to lose weight. It's unusual but it does work! ruclips.net/video/-PE4nLROBng/видео.html
I went to Japan and lost 15kgs in 3 months without even trying and I was eating everyday. I think the thing that made me loose weight was the tiny portions and walking everywhere.
Before i owned a car I lived in New York and Atlanta, I walked and used public transportation for commuting , it was easy to maintain a lower weight then. As soon as I started driving everyplace for transportation I gained 20-30 lbs that I kept for over 20 years until I started to ride a bike for transportation more and more..
There are actually a lot of greasy fast food options, and a lot of snacks as well (at least when I lived in Japan). However, the portions are smaller and there is a huge difference between Japanese and western "sweets": Japanese traditional sweets are not that sugary, and often made with several types of beans or rice as ingredients :)
The most common example is "adzuki"; a sweet paste of red beans. As for rice, many sweets are made with rice flour or contain rice cake. I found that Japanese often use vegetables for sweet flavors as well. For example taiyaki (a sweet, fish-shaped pastry) often comes with red-bean paste, sweet potato or chestnut filling.

This music is Chinese, not Japanese. I’m grateful for the information they have given us, but as a Japanese the music just bothered me a little 😅 I am proud of my culture!!!
I get your point but fyi in Japanese traditional music there exists a scale called "Minyo" which is enharmonically equivalent to the minor pentatonic scale, which is the fifth mode of the Chinese pentatonic scale. So yes although Japanese and Chinese music sound vastly different they share many similarities to some degree.
i'm Japanese! I think this music is not only Chinese, because Japanese tradition was born with Chinese influence. But………! i'm glad that you know asian music☺️☺️ (Sorry,i'm not good at English.)
I lived and worked in Japan for years, and this isn't very accurate. Most people I knew barely had time to eat. Also, there is the social pressure of maintain a thin appearance. In fact, most women in my workplace skipped meals nearly every day in order to stay very thin. A lot of the meals were based on rice and noodles (especially lower income people). Much of this information is based on stereotypes from people that have never actually lived there.
I couldn't think of a username I kind of agree, there is a Japanese girl that I have been talking to and she keeps telling me and showing pictures of American food she eats.
Mostly it is GENETIC first, then all other Cultural factors contribute to LOW Obesity in the Japanese Population. They eat high glycemic white rice and pasta along with lots of fish; not much of beef or pork, as I understand. Americans eat lots of beef & pork in large portions, with lots of sugar soda & watching sports & junk TV lots of times!! Hence 30% of Americans are in fact obese with BMI >30!!
As an American who is living in Japan over 13 years now, I find these 10 excuses to be laughable. The line at McDonald’s every day here would seem to disagree with you regarding them avoiding burgers 😂 Literally 3 McDs and a Burger King within walking distance from my office and all of them have a line a mile long on a daily basis, populated with thin people. But I do love how you said this is “according to science” but didn’t actually show any science. You just spouted common tropes. Let me assure you though, eating with chopsticks doesn’t help you not eat as much. In fact if you eat noodles, you’ll eat them faster with chopsticks than without, if you know what you are doing. Consistently I find that Japanese eat twice as much as I do and they are most often half my weight. You want to know the real difference? In reality, it all comes down to sugar. Western foods are chalk full of sugar and westerners tend to gravitate towards these higher sugar foods while Japanese don’t. But somehow that often gets left out of these videos about why Japanese people are so thin. How do you miss sugar and talk about chopsticks and “being mindful” as if the majority of Japanese aren’t just going into a convenience store and grabbing rice balls and other quick food items like everyone else around the world? Silly! You make them sound like these mystic philosophers who live on a higher plane of reality when factually they have a higher rate of metabolic syndrome, despite their lower rate of obesity. Look it up. But again, the real issue is all about sugar sugar sugar. Yes they will eat ice cream sure, but what they tend not to do is smother it in chocolate sauce or eat a 24 pack of cookies - not only because you simply can’t buy a 24 pack outside of Costco, but because they’ve largely been raised to crave other snack types while westerners have been constantly inundated and conditioned to crave sugars and sugar substitutes. Look around Japan and you’ll find very little in the way of sugar substitutes as well. There is no Splenda and sugar packets on the table for their teas and when they do eat desert, the portion is massively reduced. Birthday cakes, for example, are not a 2 ft long rectangular sheet cake with an inch thick icing drawing of Elmo’s face, it’s a 8-10 inch round cake with light icing topped with some kind of berry or fruit. Yes activity plays some role, but the roll of sugar is 80% of the difference. Riding your bike to work does you no good if you drink Mt Dew all day and binge a box of cookies as an afternoon snack, which many Westerns actually do, and most Japanese would find unappetizing. Just sayin’ How about actually doing science and not just spouting tropes for once. My gosh.
Rj Rony true but some aren’t sumo wrestlers 🤼♂️. Some are actual people with weight problems & obesity. Not really a good joke and though their obese, their still healthy!
@@katarinatill4713 The portions on the plate have nothing to do with the use of chopsticks. As for how much you can get in your mouth at one time using chopsticks, I would ask you to refer to my first comment.
@@1980rlquinn I can only talk about my own experiences.I have been eating with chopsticks at home dir about half a year every day. And I have the impression I eat faster but the single "bites" are smaller. So I feel satisfied and "full" faster. 🙂
@@katarinatill4713 That's cool. ^^ I'm glad you recognize that is your own experience and not universal, and that you can find your own enjoyment from it. I'm just not up for folks (the video in particular) spreading stereotypes about what Japanese culture "must be like" from half-baked suppositions. The experience of living here and seeing how Japanese people *actually* use their utensils (not to mention how the rest of the culture is compared to most people's small window into it) really exposes how little care click-bait writers take with anything outside the bubble they're targeting.
@@1980rlquinn I have managed to slow down my eating habits because of chopsticks, since i'm so bad at it. Food drops and i have to pick it up again and again. So the results are quite positive, it takes around 30 minutes to finish a meal. I don't wanna be skilled with it like a japanese! I wanna stay clumsy!
I lived in Japan for 6 years and I must say that while it’s true that obesity is low there, most of these “reasons” are incorrect or apply to a minority of the population. Great transportation systems apply only to major cities. People snack all the time. They often don’t make time to eat meals all the time (work reasons). Food habits do tend to be healthier and even snacks tend to be healthier. Food portions are definitely smaller and young people are extremely active. Food also, as mentioned in the video, does tend to be treated as an experience, so one tends to notice well what is eaten, how much is eaten, and food is enjoyed more in terms of taste. Fruits are ridiculously expensive so making smoothies or eating tons of fruits is not very common. Food does also tend to be more local and fresh, which makes it healthier. Unmentioned is also the amount of societal pressure that there is to be in shape and not look in any way that attracts attention. People are very weight conscientious as well, which means that they comment on each other’s weight very often. They have no trouble telling each other whether they’ve gained or lost weight.
This is something for sure...and me forgetting about culture, since in America its soda drinks with caffeine and sugar. But I like my coffee/ sometimes tea.!
It really is best to NOT give any attention to the comments. If they entire video was wrong (I currently live in ASIA) would adopting these eating habits along with the other things such as exercise and walking be such a bad thing to do? Americans have been brainwashed so much with the idea "we're #1, we're, #1" we often hate to be challenged on anything about our culture. We LIVE in such denial because NOBODY GONNA TAKE MY BEEF AND POTATOES FROM ME. I have adopted many of the eating habits I see in Asia and it has changed my entire life. So if you are thinking about doing the same IGNORE the delusional comments and go for it!
これはひどい。I can't stand this video. The contents are plausible but manipulating so many ways. As a Japanese man, born and raised in Tokyo I will tell you the truth. Well, I'm not a scientist but I will tell you what I think of this subject. 1. Genetic 2. Diet 3. Society Genetic: Japanese are genetically thin. No question about it. So are Korean and Chinese. Diet: I only could have sushi a few times in year when I was a kid. I saw way more sushi in this video than I could have as a child in Japan. I believe it is all about nutrient balance. Also, unsweetened beverages consumption is high. I like sugar drinks but generally drink unsweetened tea more than soda just because I crave for it. I still remember that tea was served as a drink at every lunch in a kindergarten. Society: Someone says here that JPN people don't have a car and walk more instead. That applies to ones in Tokyo but not to people outside of city. A lot of people use car everyday for commute or shopping as the same reason as in America. We are homogeneous and resemblance matters. If you are Japanese and your friends or family noticed that you gained a few pounds, they will tell you that as saying hello. Not to give a hard feeling, it is just a part of intimacy or friendliness. If you don't wanna hear anything like that, you watch calorie intake.
To be fair, despite the other stuff this person got wrong, it was mentioned that the situation is different in the city and more rural areas. Unfortunately, the impression from the video would come across as if there weren't so many out in those areas where you MUST have a car to get places.
I'm not convinced on genetics, because the whole world (all races/ethnic groups) used to be pretty thin. The high obesity rates we're seeing across the globe are a very recent phenomenon.
I can't stand this video either. A non-Japanese who lacks proper knowledge of Japanese culture is trying to tell the world why Japanese people are slim. I am not convinced.
i've been in japan and surprisingly i was able to keep my body fit. i walked a lot from one train station to another, i had regular meal schedule, drank a lot of green tea etc. but once i came back to my country, i gained weight 😂
For real tho. I was in Japan in the Ramen Street and ordered a normal ramen portion and it took me half an hour to eat it and still I couldnt finish it whole. In the meanwhile, there was a japanese guy (clearly coming from work, as seen from his clothes) and he also ordered a ramen bowl, which was the same size as mine. I swear he ate that in 5 minutes.
@@andreearenata yes but it is one thing. A full meal would be the same size of food in total but just in a variety of dishes. And like previously mentioned in the video they eat three times a day. After work is the 3rd which is hours away from lunch. So he was probably considerably hungry
You forgot to mention one very important factor: self control. In the western world nowadays, freedom is the No.1 concern, "I can be what I want to be, I do what I want to do" is the culture and is being praised for. So when it comes to eating, that "freedom" is also part of it, lot of people just eat what they like. But in Japan and some other Asian countries, society comes before individual, people were taught to obey the rules and meet the expectations of others, not to act out of places, so the self control level is very high, they will eat what they suppose to eat, they will eat what others eat.
They are pressured to be thin!! Some teenagers are skipping a lot of meals just to look thin. Some companies weigh you, you have to maintain a certain weight. I guess the world doesn't know this.
@@katarinatill4713 In my country a nurse is weighing the children at school, if the weight is not ok, too less or too much, you get an appointment with the school doctor and they follow the weight on a regular base. If a child is really having an unhealthy weight and the parents are not able or willing to change that, the child protection service is going to be involved because it is concidered as child neglection. I know a case that 3 children were taken away from the parents because of obesety after trying to correct the parents on different ways.
Well I am half Japanese and have lives in Japan for about half of my life and I’m not sure I agree with all of this. There is a very tight rate of heart attacks in Japan as they eat a lot of foods contain high salt content eg. Food with soya sauce. However I do agree that people are more active and eat in lesser portions. (Can I Also point out that we don’t eat that much sushi. This video makes it seem like were made of it)
I was wondering the same thing. I'm not Japanese, but I do like to cook from a large collection of Japanese recipes and I've noticed that they do tend to have a lot of sodium and sugar. So, the first point #10 seems incorrect to me. Meals are varied and so have smaller portions, which I'm sure is a factor here.
It comes down to the DNA. I am 100% Japanese and I just don’t want to eat snacks between meals. Plus I think Japanese people’s stomachs are smaller than other races. They can stay slim but fatty livers and high in salt foods cause different kinds of problems.
Ben Nakajima though obviously it’s impossible to base this all upon DNA as there are a variation of people even if they are all Japanese. I can definitely say that some people do snack and have bad eating habits who are Japanese.
I, as a Japanese woman, feel like this vid was made by someone who’s clearly not familiar with what Japan is really like and most of these reasons are bs.
Is there anything about the points made that are close to being remotely honest. If you could explain as i would like to know. Regarding food and lifestyle. Thank you in advance.
That's usually the case get the information wrong on culture but I guess they tried . I'm a slim women but I'm a health freak. No meat all herbal and fruit vegetables.
That’s a lie. I live there for many years and Japanese people eat lots of fry, frozen food And fast food. Almost all food are sweet and have carbs. The secret is in the portions and exercise
Yes. I was laughing throughout this video. Yes, some people do follow the regime of eating 3 meals, at the same time everyday and avoid snacking. Mostly elderly people. My father in law does this. But I know SO many people who eat whenever and even at unhealthy times of the day. Salary men who go bar hopping and end up eating ramen and Tonkatsu at 3am. So many people smoke and drink and buy a ton of snacks and veg out in front of the TV after work. My brother in law never exercises, drives to and from work, eats whenever and whatever he wants, buys an entire bag full of snacks and chu-hi from the 7-11 and eats out at restaurants almost everyday. He's as skinny as a rail! It's no secret how the Japanese stay thin, its genetics!
@@johndeyooo2051 Not to mention their culture is taught to not be socially rude or up front Europeans and Americans have it right be rude upfront least let them know how you feel
Yeah but people loose there jobs over being a little overweight which is quite cruel and inhumane i life in japan and was required to loos weight now I have an eating disorder now I’m underweight and I’m scared to eat and regain all the weight I had back
There's a good chance younger generations are falling into unhealthy western food habits. Drinking cola then having mom drive you to school vs drinking cola then walking everywhere are different.
Yeah ..main reason is behaviour of japnese people. .japnese people are humble , sweet, generous , loving . These things make u healthy. Rest things are just for documentation
nitz vision this exactly how people in village in India are, I mean used to be, lots of rule, disciplined, hard working, respecting the elders, safe environment. It’s really sad to see how we Indians are losing our values, good to see Japanese government protects their culture, traditions and values. In my native we eat lot of sea food and time is very important morning b/f is servers before 7 and then we study and afternoon lunch at 12 mostly steamed rice, fish and lots of green and then again we go back to school. When we were in school we have early dinner and then we play with our neighbors. It was simple and I never saw anyone even moderately overweight while growing up. It’s really sad to see we Indians couldn’t keep our strong values and letting it go so easily just so that we look cool and fashionable
Wow, almost ALL of the 129 million people who live in Japan said that? And YOU ask WHERE do they get their information? LOL. HA! I think we need to ask YOU WHERE ON EARTH did you get your information or figues, stating that; "Almost all of the Japanese people/people who live in Japan have said that this whole video is false." (ROTF) I actually live in Asia and although this video may contain a bit of exaggeration I would say that about 85 if not 90% of it is quite accurate.
@@firstmillionmotivation I was thinking the same thing, did they watch the video in english and disagree? hehe yes americans love to eat at all times, i call it eating for fun, after a big meal while driving i started to eat again, my wife said why she was confused i replied in america we eat for fun!
I swear to god I thought the title was “Why Japanese noodles are so thin according to science”. Then I saw the pic and I thought it was the amount of time the noodles are left soaking in the broth, causing it to thicken up in the rest of the world and I’m like whaaaaa....??
I like the fact of mindful eating, lot of walking and small portion. Eating slowly help to get fuller with less food and more satisfying because I have time to savor the food. I have incorporated those habits and I'm loosing weight without restriction.
I gained 15 kilos in Japan over 10 years. Let me share how that happened: 1. Japanese foods are delicious 2. Japanese Chocolates are delicious 3. Skipping breakfast 4. No regular pattern in eating 5. Japanese foods are salty ( omisoshiru and Tsukemono) and sweet ( even curries are sweet). 6. Portion size is small so you end up trying several kinds of foods. Like eating gyoza and karaage with ramen. Setto menu is popular. 7. Snacking a lot between meals. 8. No walking (use bicycle instead of walking even at short distances) 9. Work Stress and binge eating. 10. Drinking often with colleagues. 11. No need to climb stairs... everywhere you find escalators and elevators. Japanese are thin because they control their portion sizes. I see most Japanese take too long to chew the obento which is the home made lunch which is very small in size. Some even skip dinner. Most of them control their food with diet than exercise. So if you are in Japan and control your diet and exercise you will stay thin otherwise you will gain coz it’s quite convenient living in Japan with delicious foods.
15 kilos in 10 years doesn't sound much. heard of other people gaining weight in Japan though, doubt healthy food choices has much to do with low weight gains. food looks amazing in Japanese fiction, how anyone possibly refrain from eating.
It's pretty obvious that you didn't follow the tradition hahaha...because if you did. You'll surely lose weight within months like the real traditional Japanese does.
Dinnerware...As a Chinese who has been using chopsticks for almost 40 years, I can show you (when I am hungry) how I use my chopsticks to plough through a plate like you Americans shoveling snow in winter.
I just lost 110lbs. I went from almost 300lbs to about 185lbs. I cut carbs or eat small portions of them. I also increased my protein intake. If I am hungry, I eat more low carb veggies, like carrots or cucumbers. I also started walking more. I also drink more water or tea (without sugar). Paying attention while eating is a good idea. I used to eat at my computer all the time, and stuff my face. I feel better now, but I'm going to agree with a lot of the comments I see here. I think it was more generalized than anything else. But it's all good. Still a good video.
Although I don’t know you I’m still proud of you ❤️because you’ve showed yourself that you can be disciplined and more powerful than your temporary desires. A lot of people don’t want to do that because of our society’s slogan “ I am who I am , I do what I want and mind your business” which praises obesity and a lot of other bad things. But yeah Congratulations 🎊 🍾
In other words, the Japanese are conditioned from childhood to honour the feeling of being full and to never go beyond that, placing great value in listening to their body and respecting that full feeling the second it firsts pops up by stopping eating immediately. Imagine how the world's obesity epidemic would change if we all learned to do that!
@@zeusdarkgod7727 What? Have you been in a 7/11 recently? I'm not sure what your idea of "good food" is but deep fried chicken, curry bread, Tv Dinners, candy, Onigiri and Ice creams are not what I would call good food.
Thank you! It is Chinese instruments. Bright side you need to know the difference, all Asian cultures are different. You can't just type "oriental music" and think all are the same.
I know some music can be ambiguous. But this is just unmistakably Chinese. And I remember they did this in 1 or 2 other videos too. Bright side just isn't very bright...
I live in Japan, and whenever I visit America I am purely amazed by things like the huge portion sizes, the unsafeness, and many other things. I can almost never finished meals in America and it amazes me when I'm suddenly not allowed to simply walk to the store. But, at least America has more space. I'll give it that, but that's about it.
Very interesting to learn about portion size and variety of choice which is the biggest take away for me. Very similar to an Indian thali meal which is compartmentalised into 4-6 small portions. This leads to the preparation of a very balanced and colourful meal hitting all the nutritional markers and making eating a proper experience 🙏😂
Same has been said of Americans before car ownership was common. We didn’t eat anything like the Japanese, but people had to walk or bike most everywhere. Did wonders for staving off obesity and cardiovascular disease.
UNLEASHING POTENTIAL - PSYCHOLOGY VIDEOS common pretty much everywhere except for America. In Europe we walk, too, and public transport is for everyone, not for people who cannot afford a car
I can't walk to school because it's too far from my house so I take the bus. Anyways I still can't walk on the streets on my own because it's too dangerous. And no I don't live in Detroit or Syria and I don't want to say where I live
The portion size point was most relevant to me. The video was right about increasing and huge portion sizes in Western countries. We tend to go for quantity over quality.
You forgot the other science behind the burger/pizza versus the sushi: temperature Sushi tastes good in room temperature so it can be eaten from the beginning and even 15 minutes later. Burger, pizza, fries, etc must be consumed right away when it's hot for the optimal taste so we tend to rush when eating them. I know I do.
Alzy Choze Well I appreciate the efforts of this channel trying to know our country’s standard numbers and it’s completely up to ones liking. But lots of peoples are suffering from our BEING THIN IS THE DEFINITION OF BEAUTY AND HEALTH corners tons. I’m just not happy with this part of Japan’s atmosphere.
Hi! Bye. Very close! It’s actually MAN MARU. Which means very round or circle...a word that rings something adorable. Not me FYI I have a round face, nothing more.
Liquid calories are brutal. I lost 18 kg in a couple of months (went from 81 to 63). People wrongfully think exercise is key to staying slim, but I'd wager that exercising accounts for 30% or less if you already have a lifestyle that forces you to move around a lot. The one single major change that allowed me to drop that much weight: no sugar. At first it's hard, but after a week or so it becomes increasingly easy. In particular, I stopped drinking anything besides water - haven't touched a can of soda in over a year. Can't drink milk because I'm lactose intolerant, and would drink more tea if I liked warm drinks. I chug a gallon of water a day. I eat out frequently, but became more mindful of my choices. And above all: water is your best friend.
@@charusaini3539 I eat chocolate everyday, but never below 83% dark and never eat more than an eighth of a bar each time. fortunately I genuinely enjoy the bitterness in the dark chocolate, and don't usually crave for sweets. if I do, that's easily squashed by a banana, a square of dark chocolate, or even a coke zero, especially in the summer. they also have those low cal gelatine nowadays. it's okay to eat a sweet every now and then, but don't abuse it. have a muffin once or twice a week, not a whole apple pie every other day. moderation is key. deprivation only works for some people.

Half of the information is wrong here. Japanese tend to eat lot more sweets like icecreams, cotton candy, eventually they have eye catchy desserts and candies. They enjoy mcdonalds and Kfc. But only difference is they follow this rules. Breakfast - Heavy Lunch- light heavy Dinner - only salad or veg They also tend to drink lots of water and green tea, they go for jogging and other health program on sat sun(during holiday) and mostly, they go for adventures whenever holiday strikes.
I was gonna say I wanted to see their secondary literature cuz a lot of things are wrong... especially "tend to stay away from greasy food" ammmm a LOT of their food is fried😶😶
"Japanese people tend to stay away from foods with excessive amounts of salt..." Yeah, okay. Cause soy sauce, miso, and pickles are so low in sodium lol
Yeah, the opposite is true. Japanese food tend to include much salt, while having much less grease instead. For me, the food in Europe sometimes tastes a bit greasy but something lacking. Then, I realized how much I've got used to Japanese food and addicted to its amount of salt.
Well they have those in small amounts. It's not like they drown their food in soy sauce and they don't have miso all the time and even if they do, it's in small portions.
When I lived in England, I drank black tea every day and lost about 20 lbs easily. Back in the States I reverted to drinking coffee, which messes with one's metabolism and gained the weight back.
And keeps contradicting itself. Most Japanese prepare meals in advance... a minute later, most Japanese don’t have time to prepare food at home so they eat fast food, but it’s healthier 🤦🏼♂️
Here in Germany, almost all kids walk or cycle to school. This is completely normal. It gives them the opportunity to cement friendships on the way to and from school and it is healthy,
Unfortunately, it is changing, as this SPIEGEL acticle suggests: www.spiegel.de/lebenundlernen/schule/warum-eltern-ihre-kinder-nicht-mit-dem-auto-zur-schule-fahren-sollten-a-1189924.html
Sascha D , yes, together with friends. The point is though, that they are not brought by their parents. They are responsible for getting themselves there on time. This is a life skill, which they don’t learn, when they are driven to the school gates for the whole of their school life.
Julio Saucedo , I don’t live in Berlin, so I can’t say, but I assume they have some overweight kids there too, just as in the rest of Germany. This is of course also caused by eating too much junkfood and a bad diat in general. As everywhere else, the lower down the social scale and the educational ladder you go, the more kids you see who have weight problems.
I laughed too. Im in the USA and taught myself how to eat using chopsticks (been eating with them for over a year) and I can eat my lunch in 10-15 mins at work (30 min lunch)...lol you only take smaller bites, not eat more slowly. Slowly trying to put my chopsticks down between bites.
@@chelseaoates610 compare chopsticks to a spoon, you are going to eat way more with a spoon than chopsticks also it does depend on the person and self discipline
I live in the USA and I know many people who eat healthily. The USA is a huge country compared to other countries so there are different cultures. Lots of obese people here. Japan is mainly a homogenous Japanese-only (mainly) society. There is raw fish that is very risky in Japan which explains why many Japanese have food poisoning, gastritis, and botulism issues. Also, too salty which explains the high risk of cardiovascular diseases. The Japanese work until they die. Whereas in the Mediterranean diet areas, they eat healthier even though they may not be as "skinny." Skinny does not equate to healthier necessarily. They didn't say that in this video.
I've read that they eat to 80% full( to satiety not to being stuffed) in US, many people eat past the point of stuffed. Growing up i was raised to eat ALL on my plate (all the starving kids in Africa ya know). Problem is, portion sizes in US are huge, and they get even worse as you become adult. Now, I prefer homecooked and focus on more veg, drinking more water, ACV with meal, less sugar, feel more satisfied
That explains why over here in Texas are alot of people who are diabetic and have a lot of gyms over here is a really big difference than in Japan and everyone and their daily routine sounds so healthy and interesting
For one thing, the Chinese music in the background in a video about Japan is kind of like watching a video about England with the Star Spangled Banner playing in the background! Next the explanations for the reason is ok but I think the main differences is that they walk everywhere--up & down the platforms to the train station, to their Shinto temples, to their local grocers, to their friends house, to restaurants & mean everywhere! I never did so much walking until I visited there last year! Now I know how they stay so slim! They eat as much carbs & processed foods any others industrialized nation but the walking definitely is one big reason for staying slim! And they don't eat that much Sushi either!
Rapid rise in obesity in the US coincided with rapid decrease of agricultural jobs and increase of sedentary jobs and car ownership. Baby boomers will tell you that they ate meat and potatoes all the time as kids, and yet most people were skinny. It's because they walked a lot more. They walked to school. They walked to work. Also, people ate out rarely. If kids wanted to eat fast food, they probably had to walk there to get it and had to pay for it with money they had to earn from chores or jobs.
There is a big hole in this list: the attitude Japanese people typically have towards weight. People will poke you in the belly, and make comments about your weight openly and brazenly. They will tell you outright if they see you gain weight, and ask you questions about what you eat or how much or little exercise you are getting. It comes from a concern for your health in a communal sense. More healthier people means a more functional society.
Well, I don't see how this attitude is wrong. Of course it is healthier to be slim. The whole 'embrace your obesity' agenda going on in Europe and the US is just pc bullsh*t.
@@Hitsugix While i agree on some levels with you on that arguement, it is not always healthy/healthier to be slim, at least for certain people isn't. Every person is different, their genetics and the natural way they're built is part of it. Different bodies. Of course, it's not healthy to obese or morbidly obese, but just remember that skinny/thin doesn't always mean healthy. In fact, it seems like a trend nowadays to starve yourself and doing way too much exercise, it's horrifying and sad honestly. To me, at least.
Sabine O'flynn Being skinny/slim/thin IS healthy (except when in extreme). It’s what you do to become/maintain slim body that is healthy (or unhealthy).
This video isn't really well researched... Neglecting some important points, and some points given are just plain wrong. One of the major reasons there aren't too many obese people is peer pressure. If you stand out, you'll know quickly. Just watch Abroad In Japan's video on the topic. Secondly... And I really don't know how you came up with that... They eat slower because of chopsticks? 😂 Good one. I was over there for the better part of a year and Japanese people regularly arrived after us and left way before us. No, they don't eat slowly. Maybe you do, because you're untrained with chopsticks and thus assumed it must be the same for them. And that is not all! Next time, do your research properly before just making things up. At least some points were correct - regarding portion sizes and softdrinks.
Don G You are exactly right. I lived there just over 10 years and could never finish my ra-men bowl faster than a Japanese guy. And the peer pressure (best not to stick out) is definitely true in Japan. In America most people have their own car, ie sheltered from public view.

@Infotainment Tube I must say you are the dumbest person ever
I lived and worked in Japan for years, and this isn't very accurate. Most people I knew barely had time to eat. Also, there is the social pressure of maintain a thin appearance. In fact, most women in my workplace skipped meals nearly every day in order to stay very thin. A lot of the meals were based on rice and noodles (especially lower income people). Much of this information is based on stereotypes from people that have never actually lived there.
I was just laughing at the bullsh!t in this video seriously delusional info..
Yeah this video seems like stereotypes. American style fast food is really popular in Japan.
I couldn't think of a username I kind of agree, there is a Japanese girl that I have been talking to and she keeps telling me and showing pictures of American food she eats.

Mostly it is GENETIC first, then all other Cultural factors contribute to LOW Obesity in the Japanese Population.

The line at McDonald’s every day here would seem to disagree with you regarding them avoiding burgers 😂
Literally 3 McDs and a Burger King within walking distance from my office and all of them have a line a mile long on a daily basis, populated with thin people.
Just sayin’
How about actually doing science and not just spouting tropes for once. My gosh.
Kudos!

これはひどい。I can't stand this video. The contents are plausible but manipulating so many ways. As a Japanese man, born and raised in Tokyo I will tell you the truth. Well, I'm not a scientist but I will tell you what I think of this subject.
1. Genetic
2. Diet
3. Society
Genetic: Japanese are genetically thin.
そうですね。I am a half Japanese person living in Japan, it doesn’t seem completely there.

This is a very interesting thought 🤔
First what freedom? Freedom of preselected choices? In Japan they are not lying about it. Being upfront is better than living in a fantasy

I think they should do this in the West too! Obeised people( like alcoholics or smokers) cost the health system a lot!

Ben Nakajima that is a good point. Salty foods and fatty foods are two very different problems.
Ben Nakajima though obviously it’s impossible to base this all upon DNA as there are a variation of people even if they are all Japanese. I can definitely say that some people do snack and have bad eating habits who are Japanese.

5. Japanese foods are salty ( omisoshiru and Tsukemono) and sweet ( even curries are sweet).

9. Work Stress and binge eating.

I felt the same, I have seen people in dramas eat with chopsticks and they are anything but slow! 😂
That is awesome!!! CONGRATULATIONS ON THE WEIGHT LOSS!!
Although I don’t know you I’m still proud of you ❤️because you’ve showed yourself that you can be disciplined and more powerful than your temporary desires.

You forgot the other science behind the burger/pizza versus the sushi: temperature
Sushi tastes good in room temperature so it can be eaten from the beginning and even 15 minutes later.
Burger, pizza, fries, etc must be consumed right away when it's hot for the optimal taste so we tend to rush when eating them. I know I do.

Ha! good for you......I quit sugar and on the 4th day, get a massive throbbing headache😫

Turns out diet is an extensive topic. It's not just one thing. It's a combination of so many other little things.
Half of the information is wrong here.
Japanese tend to eat lot more sweets like icecreams, cotton candy, eventually they have eye catchy desserts and candies. They enjoy mcdonalds and Kfc. But only difference is they follow this rules.
Breakfast - Heavy
Lunch- light heavy
Dinner - only salad or veg
They also tend to drink lots of water and green tea, they go for jogging and other health program on sat sun(during holiday) and mostly, they go for adventures whenever holiday strikes.
I was gonna say I wanted to see their secondary literature cuz a lot of things are wrong... especially "tend to stay away from greasy food" ammmm a LOT of their food is fried😶😶
They also be stuffing food in their mouths so 👌 👀 about the balance mess ....
Nope. You're wrong too.
"Japanese people tend to stay away from foods with excessive amounts of salt..."
Yeah, okay.
They are Japanese, not Chinese.
They are not obsessed with soy sauce.
Eating too much salt is excessively overblown we actually need quite a bit of sodium in our diet
Well they have those in small amounts. It's not like they drown their food in soy sauce and they don't have miso all the time and even if they do, it's in small portions.
Do you not know soy sauce culture, the miso culture of Japan?
Japan has dozens of kinds of miso and soy sauce.
When I lived in England, I drank black tea every day and lost about 20 lbs easily. Back in the States I reverted to drinking coffee, which messes with one's metabolism and gained the weight back.
Black coffee is healthy, but it's the instant creamers and sugars added that cause the problem.
Yeah, it's definitely not the coffee on its own, it would probably be the calories from milk, sugar, creamer etc.
as P F mentioned.
“According to science”
Not science, just stereotypes....
It gives them the opportunity to cement friendships on the way to and from school and it is healthy,
Unfortunately, it is changing, as this SPIEGEL acticle suggests:
www.spiegel.de/lebenundlernen/schule/warum-eltern-ihre-kinder-nicht-mit-dem-auto-zur-schule-fahren-sollten-a-1189924.html
Not if you live in or near a large city. Most kids then end up taking the train or bus
Sascha D , yes, together with friends. The point is though, that they are not brought by their parents. They are responsible for getting themselves there on time. This is a life skill, which they don’t learn, when they are driven to the school gates for the whole of their school life.
That's correct, I barely see overweight kids in Berlin.
"chopsticks make you eat more slowly"

I laughed too. Im in the USA and taught myself how to eat using chopsticks (been eating with them for over a year) and I can eat my lunch in 10-15 mins at work (30 min lunch)...lol you only take smaller bites, not eat more slowly. Slowly trying to put my chopsticks down between bites.
lol. That's funny. They forgot Asians are rather skilled with chopsticks (not saying all are like Asians not from Asia).
@@chelseaoates610 compare chopsticks to a spoon, you are going to eat way more with a spoon than chopsticks

If this is true...I might be the problem lol 😆😂

Its all about vegetables and fish culture.
I didn't say it was wrong.
葵秃
Don G when the restaurant is busy they slurp the noodles in less than 3 minutes and go on their way back to work.
Don G You are exactly right. I lived there just over 10 years and could never finish my ra-men bowl faster than a Japanese guy. And the peer pressure (best not to stick out) is definitely true in Japan. In America most people have their own car, ie sheltered from public view.
