No one is ready to hop in the shower every evening in the Winter after being pretty much bundled up all day and being exposed to dry heat all the time during the season. Besides, no one wants dry cracked over washed skin that itches and flakes(eczema) when your body doesn't produce enough natural oil.....same with the hair.

I befriended a Japanese woman that worked in the same agency. She explained the importance of taking your shoes off at the door after walking the city streets. Made so much sense. I often cringe when watching a movie to see actors put their feet up on the bed with their shoes on, that's the worst. It's a custom I still practice to this day. So taking a bath at night to wash away the city germs makes a lot of sense. If a study were done I would predict they have less colds and flu by taking their shoes off at the door and bathing at night.

Indians bathe in the mornings to start the day fresh, its like being born again after the soul's night journey. But that doesn't mean they don't do a quick shower after work. Also traditionally when Indians came home from work or school they washed their hands feet and face thoroughly before stepping into kitchen or bed.

Filipinos usually shower 2x a day. One in the morning and one in the evening. Possibly because our country has a warm climate so we tend to sweat more hence showering helps us get rid of the bad body odor(and we're very sensitive to that). Using bathtubs is more of a luxury for us so its usually not found in most homes.

in spain it's the same as in japan for driving! i feel like in america you can get your car license at 16 because everything is so far away and you need to be able to go places without relying on your parents too much, but in countries like mine and japan, where generally everything is so well communicated and close, we don't really need it that early, and this can actually help reduce car accidents as it's said that young people in general drive a little more recklessly, at least that's what they taught me

"OFURO" that we Japanese say generally means to soak in a bathtub. We soak in the bath at night to soothe the fatigue of the day and to relax before going to bed. In Japan, there used to be no shower in the old days and only bathing at night, but nowadays there is no house without a shower, so many people use only a shower in the morning.

I am surprised that they didn't mention the fact the Japanese kept using the same hot water for the whole family for the nightly bath. And that you don't wash in the bathtub. There are so many things exaggerated or inaccurate in this video.

Like many here, long before ever visiting Japan, I preferred an evening bath or shower to be clean before going to bed,
As alluded to here, getting clean is only part of the purpose of evening bathing in Japan. It is also to unwind and relieve stress, and purifying oneself before bedtime that matters. Many in Japan also shower in the morning, especially if there is any sweating at night.

Well I take bath both in the morning and evening. In India traditionally morning baths are normal as we pray, visit temples, go to work after a bath and start the day that way. The evening baths are to remove the dirt and grime from the day and relax us especially in the polluted environment we live in. Now when one sleeps the body cleans itself and so bathing in the morning is equally important. That's the reason we brush our teeth in the morning for fresh breath!!. In addition whenever we come home from outside washing hands, feet and faces used to be the routine.

When I chastised him for water wastage (as in Australia, we have water restrictions because of our constant droughts), he came up with, "The doctor says I have to do this." Really?! Strange how he can never look directly to my face when he says it. I think he's full of it!
