    I love how many different flavours and textures the meals have, usually I just have a massive plate of one thing

    • @phocian
      @phocian 2 года назад +39

      Don't feel bad about your 'massive plate'. If you combine all her small dishes/plates onto one plate, it would be a massive plate too. The breakfast bowl, particularly, had a lot of items in it. If you separately platted the eggs, rice, beans, seaweed, fruit and yogurt, on one plate, the plate would look massive as well. It's just organized very cute and more pleasing to the eyes, so people don't notice the actual amount of food being eaten. But you are correct, many cultures have one meat and 2 or 3 larger sides on one massive plate, while an Asian meal will consist of multiple meats and include 7 or 8 smaller sides put on different plates. It's the presentation that makes the difference; you may be eating the same amount or even a lesser amount of food.

    • @etheladdams2562
      @etheladdams2562 2 года назад +28

      @@phocian I get what you mean about the total amount of food, but different dishes provide different nutrients. We think about different colors of food to present and stuff, and one reason is for visual pleasure, but another reason is because we know that different colors tend to give different types of nutrients. • @phocian
      @phocian 2 года назад +11

      @@etheladdams2562 I agree with you. The amount is not as important as it's nutrition. For me, her breakfast was huge. There's no way I could eat that much; however, it probably has less calories than a large coffee and muffin from Starbucks. She can afford to eat more health wise.

My brother and I, raised in the Western format, got 2 fried eggs, bacon and toast. But on some days we enjoyed our parents breakfast. Both have passed but the memories are there. My Japanese husband likes natto, too, and eats it with mustard sauce, and other condiments, and by itself sometimes. To me, it's the epitome of 'eat it, it's good for you' so hold your nose, and close your eyes. I like to see him happy so I make sure he has it every once in a while at least. I saw on the internet how to make it using prepared natto as a fermentation 'starter'. When we were first married many decades ago, grocers place fresh tofu in the fresh produce section without refrigeration, and it was no wonder when a friend said she wasn't opposed to tofu, just because of its somewhat sour flavor. I used to make my husband fresh tofu to make abura age, rice pockets, using epsom salts for bean protein coagulation. And, no, I've never been able to eat natto. even though it's very nutritious especially for someone tending to blood clots.

    Cool! I'm in Aichi! My wife is from Kamakura. My wife also makes the omelet too. But I am the one who does all the clean-up after cooking. She will also have yogurt with fruit. We have either toast or cold breakfast cereal. That habit comes from me being from Canada. My wife will also make yakisoba on weekends, and we have that same red pan! And she also buys the same noodle brand! My wife also drinks a vinegar drink, usually in the evening. Ya, she doesn't like the taste too.

    You are one lucky guy Paolo, your wife looks like she has her "stuff" together. Always good to have a wife that knows what's she is doing.
