  • In this video I show how I diagnose and fix a P0496 EVAP Flow During Non Purge Condition check engine light code on a Chevrolet Camaro. The fix for this vehicle was a new Vapor Canister Purge Valve. In addition to diagnosing, I also show how to replace the Purge Valve on this Camaro. Sometimes there are no symptoms associated with this other than a Check Engine Light (CEL) or Service Engine Soon (SES) light. Some vehicle may experience a long crank time and/or sluggish/poor engine performance (this vehicle had these symptoms).
    The exact vehicle in this video is a 2015 Camaro with a 3.6L V6 engine. This is a common problem on many GM models.

      Purge and Vent Solenoids are pretty standard on many vehicles so much of the information can be applied to other applications. The actual voltages on the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor would be specific to makes/models though. Thanks for the comment!

    Around the minute 9:08 when you are performing the light test, there’s any other chances to have a good idea if I have shorted wire or something else? I have the same code and I have a multimeter but not the computer since I’m just an regular owner person but I’ll love to check the circuit first and not just go and buy and replace the part. So, what should I can expect if the circuit it’s fine: Not continuity in between the terminals? Thanks in advance!

    How soon before engine misfire returns to normal?

  • @IsshmanGarcia
    @IsshmanGarcia 4 года назад

    @BigDogg50001 at 5:42 you said engine was stumbling because it was expecting fuel, but wasn't getting any. Was it just getting air? Everytime I hit seal- the car completely stalls and any vacuum pulled immediately drops. Would you say the back vent is stuck open some? The back vent does click to engage and disengage, but we all know that doesn't mean it's working 100%.

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  4 года назад +1

      The charcoal canister stores fuel vapors from the gas tank, when the engine is ready it opens the purge for a short amount of time to burn those vapors. If the purge is stuck open, the vapors are quickly pulled in and then it continues to pull in air (that the engine computer is not expecting). If the vent is sealed with a stuck open purge then you can see changes in the fuel tank pressure pretty fast on a scan tool (this is typically how the engine computer looks for issues on many systems).

    • @IsshmanGarcia
      @IsshmanGarcia 4 года назад

      @@BigDog50001 Thank you for the reply sir. So is it plausible that for my vehicle to stall immediately when I hit the seal button- that the purge is likely to be sticking open?

    Will this cause the catalyst monitors to not be ready at smog check ?

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  5 месяцев назад

      The monitors run each key cycle to look for emissions related problems and turn on check engine light if it detects any. If the check engine light is on, it will typically cause a vehicle to fail an emissions (smog) test.

    Change the purge valve at the dealer and replace my gas cap and reset the light by unplugging the battery but it turn back on after 2 drive cycles . I did the same couple of years back and the light stayed on for a couple of more drive cycles . Do U think I should drive it a lil more and wait to see if it turns off btw awesome video man .

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  4 года назад +1

      The ECM needs to run its diagnostic test for this code 4 times (and pass all 4 times) before the light will clear on its own (the light will come on after 2 failed tests). Also, the vehicle needs to meet certain parameters before it will test for this code (like engine off at least 8 hours). If this same code keeps coming back then it will need troubleshooting done.

    • @ericaramirez3630

    I had the same issue with my 2012 camaro changed the same part but my "check engine" light stays on. Isn't it supposed to cut off in its own?

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  5 лет назад

      It generally will turn off if the parameters for running the test are met and the problem was corrected. If I remember correctly for that code, the engine computer wants to see a cold soak (engine off) for at least 8 hours and a certain temp. Some codes won't clear unless the vehicle is driven at a certain speed for a certain length of time. It just depends on the code and the vehicle programming.

  • @DZ-cb2bg

    hey brother I have a p0401 code on my 98 ranger anyway I can narrow down the issue with looking at a scan tool live readings? thanks

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  4 года назад

      Yes, a P0401 is an EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) insufficient flow issue, usually you can look for EGR DPFE Data PID on a scan tool to help diagnose (depending on model). On many of those older systems, there will be a base reading on the EGR DPFE data PID (generally around .5V to 1V depending on type of sensor). Generally, when the engine computer does not detect a change from the base reading after commands the EGR valve open, it sets a P0401. Faulty DPFE (Delta Pressure Feedback) sensors, bad EGR valves (or clogged passages) can cause this issue, but I would also look for exhaust leaks and check any DPFE hoses to make sure they are in good shape.
