  • Here it is. The rush 72 2.0. Been curious about the changes they’ve made so I had to pull the trigger. Wanted something a little bigger than my rush 24 and this did not disappoint.

    Thank you for somehow being about the only review of this product on RUclips (odd with how popular the brand is). Great overview of the product! I agree that the admin section isn't great, but I see it has been "dumbed down" from the old one with less pockets now. Infact it seems like the whole 2.0 had removed more than they have added. The laptop pocket is actually super nice for me, but I'm quite sad we lost at least 5 pockets for it.

    • @simplepreparedness
      @simplepreparedness  2 года назад +2

      Thank you. That really is odd. I figured there would be hundreds of reviews out on that line once the 2.0 came out. I’m definitely going to have to pick up an older one and see how the 2 compare. I’ve heard a lot of people say they are disappointed in what was done to the bag. I personally like it but we’ll see how that goes after getting a older version. Be safe out there.

      @@simplepreparedness The 12 and 24 packs have a few videos (still much less than I'd expect) and you seem to be THE Rush72 2.0 video. I'd 100% agree that the new 72 is still an awesome bag, but it used to have 2 magazine pockets in the admin section and a few smaller pockets like the 24 has. Plus the small top compartment had a divider in the back instead of just the mesh on the front flap. It would be hard to call these missing features deal-breaking but paired with the two lost due to the addition of the laptop area, that starts to add up to a lot of organizational space. Plus I don't understand not having drain holes even in the hydration pocket.

    • @simplepreparedness
      @simplepreparedness  2 года назад +1

      I rather confused myself by the loss of the drain holes in the bag. To me that really doesn’t make a lot of sense. As you said, not deal breakers but I think there were a lot of missed opportunities when they redesigned the bag. For me they ccw pocket was a complete miss. I still use it for other things but I could have done without it. I just think they could have done more to really make the bag stand up to it’s reputation. The ccw pocket and laptop pouch are done by everyone. I would have liked to see something fresh. Still I do like the bag and look forward to years of use. I appreciate your thoughts on it. Thank you brother.

    I received my Rush 72 2.0 today (in ranger green). I like it a lot! Just like you, I pulled the Aluminum bar out from the back plate and the same happened: The lower black plastic cover got stuck inside the channel. This happened to you as well and because of that you couldn't push the bar totally down. The end of the bar did not slide back into the cover easily. I managed to get the cover out and I will fix the covers to the bar ends with super glue. I noticed one more thing: On my bag the bar was inserted upside down. So the bigger arc (radius) was below. I believe that one should be above, but maybe it depends on the individual frame of the owner. Howsoever - I am looking forward to the first test hike on the weekend!

    • @simplepreparedness
      @simplepreparedness  3 года назад

      That bar is a bit of a pain to get back in, not sure why it was designed that way. I haven’t pulled mine back out since I got it back in place. I look forward to hearing about your thoughts on the bag after your hike. Be safe out there.

      @@simplepreparedness The bar design is basically OK. It forces the plastic plate into a shape close to the one of your frame. My Tasmanian Tiger Modular Pack 45+ has got two of such bars, which works better.

    Greetings from Germany! Thanks for your great review of the Rush 72 2.0! You made me aware that a 2nd generation of this pack was released lately! I ordered the pack right away and I am waiting on its delivery. I used to have the old model and I sold it, because it had too many pockets, especially in the admin pouch. Also, because of the water drainage grommet in the lower part of the back panel, which caused the aluminum bar being too short. So the fit to my lower back was not optimal.
    Now 5.1 Tactical changed finally, what I didn't like! They removed 4 pockets in the admin pouch and 1 zippered mesh pouch in the main compartment (it was placed above under the sunglass pocket). I do not necessarily need a compartment for a laptop or for a weapon, but I can use them for different purposes.

    • @simplepreparedness
      @simplepreparedness  3 года назад

      Germany, that’s fantastic! I appreciate the comment. Unfortunately I never had one of the older Rush 72 bags so I didn’t have anything to compare the new newer one to. I’ve gotten some mixed feedback on the review. I’m glad I was able to help you out though.
      I recently did a video where I loaded my gear from my Rush 24 into the 72 and I have to say I’m liking this bag. I agree with you about not needing a laptop compartment and ccw pocket. I’ve made some tweaks since that video and now store some freeze dried foods in the laptop pocket and they fit in there absolutely beautiful. Makes the inside look a lot cleaner and more organized. The ccw pocket is empty, it’s just in a inconvenient place and the bag would have been better off without it.
      I’m 6’4” around 230lbs and I have to say the bag fits my frame incredibly well. I plan on getting out soon and running it through it’s paces. It weighs about 28 lbs but with the support system in it and the waist straps it feels much lighter. I’m looking forward to getting some real world use out of it.
      Again I appreciate you commenting and hope you’ll enjoy some of the channels other content. Be safe out there my friend.

      @@simplepreparedness, good discussions here and thanks for the good review.
      Been eyeing this pack for some of my uses cases and have to agree with @o.brygier2364 comments on the 2.0 changes.
      Looks like a lot of the 1.0 aren’t seeing the new changes as a good thing which just means 511 marketing and products team has to do a better job at communicating and a video explaining why the design changes were made.
      For me, the pockets are nice if you only have one pack which I have many and lots of use cases. So I use more modular pouches so I can switch bags and just move the pouches to the other bags without having to dig into all the compartments and forgetting some key items when doing this as I’m not diligently checking every single compartment.
      As for the drain holes, it could be put in the water bottle compartments but better implemented in 1.0 where there is a mesh and water or debris doesn’t come in if place in a puddle. I would just do a DIY if it really bothers you but I figure the thinking was most newer water bottles are air and leak tight so they skipped it but there was a design and logical choice that wasn’t shared.
      As for the pack, I think 511 are starting to add torso lengths and hip belt sizes for different types.
      I noticed that you have a long torso and tall. I’m much shorter but I have almost a 21” torso which is same as my brother who’s 6’1” and others your height has shorter torsos.
      This is important for comfort and load distribution especially where the hip belt need to sit to carry most of the load and ensure no long term back problems.
      Also not everyone has small or big waist. I’m a 29-30” and on the smaller size while my brother is on the bigger 35-36” so the hip belt fittings need to cover a wide range of waist sizes. I like how 511 is implementing the hip belt velcro to remove it easily on the new Skyweight packs.
      Maybe I will wait on 3.0 and if some of the implementations done on the Skyweight will move over or a larger Skyweight pack, 45-55L.

      @@simplepreparedness ah i see, yeah ive had an issue before like that with waist straps being tuckable and just leaving an awkward feeling in the lower back when using it that way. Just needed to know because i may be buying this and using it for work as well and wont be needing the waist straps for those occasions. I was looking into the smaller rush24. It comes with rings to attach a waist strap but im not sure if it comes with it or if you buy it seperatley. I wasnt able to find a waist strap attachment for it on the 5/11 website which is why Im considering getting this rush 72 instead. A little overkill when taking it to work as a daily but I want the straps for when going on hikes.

    • @simplepreparedness

      It’s definitely a big bag for edc. I have my rush 24 as well and even though it has a place for a waist belt 5.11 never made a waist belt. Most people just use a regular belt which isn’t ideal but will work. It’s a hard choice. Best of luck in your decision, let me know which route you decide to take.

    Such a shame that I cannot test this product before buying where I live. I'm a minimalist. I want to get a backpack that can be used for everything. Traveling, hiking, camping, gym, you name it. My question is would it be weird to carry this big of a backpack to everyday use or gym? I know I can go for Rush 24, but I'm 195 cm tall and 90 kilos, so I'm not sure how 24 would look on my back.

    • @simplepreparedness
      @simplepreparedness  Год назад

      Appreciate the question. I try to keep things simpler myself. In my opinion the 72 would be overkill for day to day use. It’s pretty big. I’m 6’4” 220 pounds and that bag is just about right for my size. The 24 or 12 might be a little better but as a minimalist even those might be a bit much. It also depends on the weather in your area and what you would really need to carry. There’s a lot to take into consideration. It’s not a bad bag though and should last a long time. In the end I think the 72 would be too much bag. Hope that helps.

    Thanks for the presentation. Exept the not really used CCW-pouch and the padding in the Laptop storage way less features than in the older model(details in the admin pouch, in the side-pockets sn so on). So i don't think this thing deserve the Name 2.0. Way better to call it "Rush 72 0.75". I am afraid, the only real "improvement" is the pricepoint. Really a shame!

    Received mine today. Really disappointed because it looks like a cheap version of the old version to me. I think the remove a lot of pockets to reduce their costs but as a long time 5.11 user and lover I'm vert upset. I wanted a true new version, not a prototype. They promote a new (useless to me) CCW pocket and a laptop pocket but remove more than they add. In addition it is more expensive. What a brilliant idea.
