    📺. Alpine install video (reference for cables, glovebox and side panel removal) - • Alpine X901D-G7 for Go...
    In this first part, I wanted to cover my installation journey before demoing the functionality and interaction with the Golf system. This will be coming in Part 2, next week. You can catch my main review video here → • Dasaita VIVID 10.2" An... where I go over most of the stereo's functions in my demo pod.
    Using the Dasaita VIVID in my demo pod gave me enough reassurance to swap out my 4-5-year-old Alpine X902D-G7 stereo head unit in favour of this Android 10 head unit.
    At the end of the installation, I am very happy with how it turned out, its speed, how it sounds and how it functions overall. There have been a few compromises, and I will go over this in part 2. So if you're not already subscribed, please do so, it's free and it helps support the channel you will be alerted when the next part of this journey goes live very soon.

      LOL yes that first day wasn’t a fun one with that harness. I think if I had watched the alpine video first I wouldn’t have spent so much time trying to attempt to pull that chunky harness through the centre hole instead of out the side of the dismantled glove box. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Hopefully I’ve saved someone else the trouble.
      Hope to release p2 early next week. 🤞🏻

    Hi few questions, 1. I have the Dynaudio, will this work with that? 2. How is the call and general audio quality? 3. Does the central dash screen still function normally?

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  Год назад

      1. I guess it would do
      2. Calling and audio quality is good once EQ is tuned
      3. Not sure what you mean here. You mean the centre instrument cluster? If so no this has a few issues. Nav compass has stopped and media I think doesn’t work as stock, but for me since the alpine it ever has done since I left the stock head unit.

  • @awesomedude15cool

    Do you have the dynaudio or fender system in your car?
    My understanding is that the fender/dynaudio system isn't supported due to it using optical cables and there's no way to convert the audio signal without some kind of decoder. I have a 7r with the fender system.

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  Год назад +1

      I have neither. My 2013 only came with a 5-6” navigation pro and stock speaker setup. So I didn’t have this optical issue you mentioned.

    I did not get, do you have OEM camera? Because I have, but I can't find and adapter from car cables to the yellow jack on the android head unit. Can some one advise?

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  Год назад

      Unfortunately my golf never came with a rear camera so I can’t test or advise on this. Usually if there is a connection from the stock cables the Dasaita can use it. It might mean a new cable needs buying like I had to do with all of my connections.

      So I got a harness specifically for my golf 7 along with the headunit. In the same box. So I assume if you select its for a golf you should get the right harness for it 🤔 so it was literally plug and play, once I got the damn thing out 😂

    Does this unit work with the reverse camera and car setting options?

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  Год назад

      It has its own reverse camera support but I don’t have oem camera so I can’t test that, but it’s there.
      Car settings is more a list than fancy screens. Some options depend on the CANBUS setting you have. For me I have options listed that my car doesn’t support.

    Does anyone know how to find one of these headunits for a 2017 GTI S MK7 in the United States.
    I know there is a couple different brands but since they don't sell them here in the US I don't know which one to say.

      A few reasons: Mainly wireless CarPlay support, higher resolution screen, chance to run native android apps (video streaming etc), customise Home Screen to exactly how I want, internet connection for apps. Lots of advantages over the alpine I had.
      A few compromises though.

      @@CarPlayLife I’ve still got the shit MIB1 in my R and the only thing I wish it really had is CarPlay! I’ve had Alpines in nearly all of my cars with aftermarket stereos and because of that I’ve been looking into their offerings for the Mk7, but I must admit despite having had a bad experience with the Android unit that I put in the other half’s Mk6 earlier this year, these Android offerings are tempting if you like to tweak 🤔

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  2 года назад

      I feel your pain with the MIB1. The alpine was a good solution but even todays newer model doesn’t offer a high resolution, which is such a shame for a large 9” display. It’s more suited to the VW systems yet it wasn’t perfect, but it is better than these generic android systems.
      This Dasaita is good but it has its quirks. Like audio ‘farting’ when you have stop start on and the stereo gets a boost of power and pops the speakers. The CANBUS integration lists and interactivity isn’t the best but I was expecting that. The biggest issue for me with CarPlay on it is the lack of independent audio control between music and navigation/Siri. There isn’t any and that’s been the most frustrating that I’ve just had to learn to compromise with. But I’ve read a newer firmware update might fix this but as it’s all installed and working I’m a little worried to update it, Incase it fails on me and bricks the headunit.

  • @Jeremiah_Johnson139

    I'm guessing that by installing this aftermarket unit, you lose the function that gives you information about your car: eg: "check left reverse light", "oil change in 5 days" etc.

    • @CarPlayLife
      @CarPlayLife  Год назад +1

      All service and oil change interval timings are present still just not in a fancy way. More in a list. Other car specific info is also listed in the menus but as list info and isn’t presented as nicely as stock.
