Another great video done on the fly.... looks really good...
Thank you sir😉
I've got this kit aswell, i had some problem with fitment because i have additional Subwoofer cables running in that little space behind the original unit. so for my convience i just removed the glovebox and put everything above the glovebox. works perfect and fits like a glove ;)

Just installed mine in my Golf 7 (MIB1, 2013) - works perfect!

I was going to just do the entire brain unit upgrade, this is awesome and I had no idea it existed
Does it ship to the us?
Awesome video!! I also don’t have CarPlay on my car, and I was wondering how to have and not expending much money! And this one is also wireless. Nice video
Even 2 years from when the video was made this works perfectly. Very happy with the end result in my VW GTI, as a tip make sure to tuck the cables in the panel above the infotainment system, thats the way i got mine back into place :)
Looking into this myself.. glad people are still doing this so recently on 😊 Question... does the sat nav work of the phones connection? What happens if you don't connect your phone?
Thanks
Any help appreciated. Thanks
@@Daywalker1978 the sat nav will work from your phone yes, your phone will essentially be broadcasting an external image to the car's display
It’s quiet expensive to get CarPlay supplied and fitted in the Uk for a mk7, So I just want to give a huge thank you. You’ve saved me so much money by providing the link to the unit and the video on how to self install and to over come any issues through your other two videos!
Amazing videos and mods done to your GTE, I’ve already followed suit with the CarPlay and Stage1 map. Next is the sweeping front and reverse indicators!
P.s anyone who installs this and the CarPlay is either too small for your screen/too big for your or perfect size but the touchscreen doesn’t work. It’s do to with your resolution! Change the pattern of the dip switches on the back and you’ll find a combination that works for you, or contact the supplier and they’ll help suggest different combinations.
If you get an annoying static/feedback sound when no music is playing, then watch the Dutchman’s other video on how to swap audio to Bluetooth instead of AUX. You’ll get steering wheel controls and remove the static interference.

Hello there, great work finding this kit. I love it. Just got a 2015 Gte and was wondering how to mirror my phone so I'm delighted to see this and have contacted the company about this now as I have the same unit as you. Hoi Dutchman!
Mooie duidelijke video!
Great installation video 👍
Thank you!
Thanks, this might be the best upgrade u can do for that kinda money and makes driving much better with the media setup like this👌
Does it auto connect each time you get into the car? Or do you nees to connect manually each drive?
Yes it is!
It auto-connects every time you get in the car, you just need to have your iphone’s wifi on.
You can also use usb carplay and then you need to plug it in to make it work (obviously haha)!
thank for the video. Very usefull
Thank you sir😅
Dat draadloze is wel lekker. Maar goed ik ben verwend met de 2. Tnx voor weer een mooie tip.
Haha lucky you😉😉
Just installed this, great video btw. Cant seem to get the steering wheel skip buttons to work with carplay though. did you have the same issue?
Hi, I don't know if you will read this comment. First of all I wanted to thank you for your video, which I discovered by chance on youtube, so I installed Apple CarPlay on my mib1 (Golf 7). I use it to monitor my sensor glucose, via calendar event, on the homepage along with music and navigator, and now I'm really satisfied thanks to you. I also add that I can use my rear view camera from the VW bonnet badge.
P.s., I apologize for my slightly incorrect English, but I am Italian.
Wow, that’s very good to read and nice that this video made such an impact!

Hello. I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and it’s great. New sub. Quick question, what’s the difference between VW app connect and this? I have the same car mode in UK as you. And really need this upgrade. Will the system that you just fitted on be in English and work in the UK?
Yes the system is english and carplay will use the same language as your phone obviously.
We connect will still work fine and i mainly use that when i want to pre-heat the car remotely😅😅
Hey bro, nice man I like it. Is it also possible for every car and with an android phone?
Have you ever thought of installing adaptive cruise control for long rides? Btw leuke videos man ik krijg over 2 weken golf gte 2015😁
I was thinking this too. Is it even possible?
Just saw this video on my recommened, ive installed a Ebay Unit meaning ive lost my stock functions, but this would work perfectly, however im from Australia so the 300 Euro is a bit much for me but i 100% think its worth it.
It’s a good unit, it has a better and more reliable connection than my factory carplay now in my mk7.5, even though it’s chinese (meaning not oem)…
I’ve had the unit for about 3 years with a lot of good experience!
Great video again!
Thanks Sander😅
This looks great, thanks for the video. One question, can you listen to your radio/DAB while the screen shows CarPlay and Waze or Google Map directions?
Yes you can, however if the audio is switched to radio, it is not connected to aux and therefore the audio that comes from your phone (in this case waze or maps) won’t come through the speakers.
If you have a radio app on your phone, you can merge it.
nice and practical video!
question' do you have the link where you got the box?
Thanks, yes in the description!
Great video really clear. I’ve got the CarPlay working and installed, but now I can’t fit the infotainment system back in?? Any advice?
Have you had a chance to look at the RCD 520? It's a new(2021) infortainment system for VW MK7 MQB platform that is supposed to be plug & play for both mib1 & mib2 users. Comes with an 8 inch screen, apple carplay & higher resolution
Thats great! I was considering changing the whole system because I use Waze all the time and therefore carplay would be great. But the most important reason for me would be that bluetooth streaming quality is not as good as playing from the harddisk. It’s just not that crisp. I was hoping carplay would make it better. Can you tell me if you notice a difference or improvement in the bluetooth music quality?
I have not tested it enough to conclude that, but yes in theory you’re right!
You can also use traditional carplay by using a usb cable and therefore listening to music while using a wired connection.
So if you notice loss of quality, you can revert back to that😅😅
Thanks! Appreciating your efforts :D
I found my bluetooth connected to Spotify was perfect, the same as a radio station, then one day out of nowhere, no changes to the car, phone or software, I stopped in a supermarket, got back in the car, then the bluetooth connection was awful, low quality sound, and never been the same since. Why did this happen?? I want to get this CarPlay unit but afraid the bluetooth quality would still be bad.
Any issues with backup camera? Also do you have fender audio?
Hi, I have three question:
1)if you are listening radio fm what happens when you switch to android auto/carplay? do the radio stop or it continues playing? thanks in advance
2) when you are in the rear view camera screen, do you still see the parking sensors on the left side of the screen like in the original screen?
3)when you are close to some obstacle does the sensor screen automatically appear on the left side of the screen like in the original system?
Hey man, that was exactly what I was looking for. However, I just wanted to ask if the rear camera and the steering volume buttons work. I really want it but I want to make sure that I can get the best out of it.
Yes it all works! Only music prev and next won’t work, but i have a fix for that in one of my other videos!

Hi Dutchman. Thank you for the video and for expanding my horizon. But one question I have is, do you or somebody else have some experience with Android Auto? Is that right, that the Android use is possible only via USB and not wireless? Hope for some answers. ;)

While listening to the FM radio someone is calling my phone - can I answer the call using the add-on box, or the original BT phone functionality?? Can I still listen to FM radio, while being switched to a CarPlay screen? The original CP/AA unit can automatically mute the radio and play voice prompts from navigation or switch to voice calls.

One is when you plug the box he automatic turn on the lights, but this don't drain your 12v battery? When you use the navigation in carplay you can listen radio at same time? Last one is you can listen the voice navigation instructions?
Again amazing amazing video 😊
Thank you for the compliments!
To answer your questions:
1. No you cannot drain the battery, this kit uses the same power supply your nav uses, so no worries there.
2. You can listen to the radio at the same time, but you have to set the car to aux to benefit from the audio from Carplay, so it’s radio OR navigation instructions, not both.
If you listen to music through Carplay, the nav instructions work perfectly!
3. Yes it works and you can also use the oem microphone to ‘tell’ the car your destination through Siri, it’s all integrated and you can use your Voice button on the steering wheel as well!

Hey! Awesome video and explanation. Any chance someone has placed this unit and has Dynaudio sound in their car? Does it affect the sound quality of does it still remain the same? Thanks in advancen!
Yes, sound quality decreases a bit, because it is transferred over aux with this kit!
Using it for almost one year now in my Golf Mk7 (MIB2 radio, Discovery Pro), I'm using it for Android Auto (AA) with a Samsung S23:
Positive findings:
- overall the unit works well: relatively easy to install and to hide behind the standard (MIB2) radio in the glovebox, okay sound (I'm not a specialist; I also did not connect the ground cable) & a lot of settings/configuration options.
- it's especially nice for it being an additional feature to the standard radio: if one doesn't like to always use the unit (f.ex. if you share your car with somebody else), one can still perfectly use the standard radio. So it's purely an extra, nothing is being replaced or permanently disactivated from the original MIB2 radio. All functions of the MIB2 keep on working. You only need to put the media on AUX and longpress the MENU button (or connect your phone) and the unit starts as an 'overlay' over the standard radio, using AUX via your phone as sound source. As AUX is the only source, you cannot connect your default radio to your BT (it needs it for the Android Auto) and also the default FM/AM cannot be used (use a radio app instead).
- steering wheel buttons: for changing songs and volume it works, for phone it works partially (you can pick up the phone, but it will then always trigger a search to connect a phone via BT, which it annoyingly shows on the on-board computer display).
- tip: as I prefer wired, I hung a 1,5 m USB cable which starts at the unit, comes out the left side of my glovebox and which ends in the centre console of the car: this works fine.
Dislikes:
- rear camera (factory-installed): it's not working without proper intervention and it's unclear to me how to activate. There are camera settings but not helpful to solve the issue. I've read you need to connect it to the tail light wire which I don't want, to avoid doing things which I cannot undo. Rear sensors (beeping) luckily enough still work (but not shown on screen). Also, (depends on your car) if you put your car in rear gear (my Golf is a manual btw) and press MENU, you will see your camera again, obviously, as you're 'leaving' the unit.
- microphone quality: not too stable but not dramatic. People on the other line of the phone do understand me, but they tell me that sometimes it sounds as if I'm on a far distance. There are microphone quality settings (echo cancelling), but not sure they make a huge difference. (there were also additional micro cables in the box, but those were to install an actual microphone if still needed)
- automatic switch between day & dark/night mode from Google maps is NOT respected, although there is a setting called "appearance" which should check and allign with the status of your front lights (on/off). However, this seems an issue possibly related to Android/Maps instead of the unit. (you can google it)
- sometimes (more or less once every 2 weeks) the sound of the Android notifications & Google Maps instructions go extremely loud, but sounds not from Android stay at a normal volume (f.ex. your music or radio app). Even restarting the phone or changing the volume of the car/unit/phone (several settings) makes no difference. It's usually solved the next time you start the car.
Hi there, Can you tell me does the SD Card slot still pay audio?
Hi there, I'm trying to figure out if this unit will work with cars that have Fender audio and therefore a separate amp. Does the unit bypass the infotainment to connect to the speakers directly or does it all run through the current infotainment system?

@@dmissirlian sorry for the late reply but no. when I watch this video I don't see a separate cable (optical?) for the Fender amp so I'm unsure if it will work with my car.
I have it working on my fender 2015, its using bluetooth for sound
Top video!
Hi there. Very informative. Thank you.
I have a 2015 GTI, with MIB1 non nav, however I have no aux input, no usb, only a wide MDI port. Would this setup work for my car?
Do you have BT audio? Then it should work!
@@ot2nie Yes I do. Thanks
@@sendibadsaid7931 did you end up getting this product? If so, where did you fit the box? I have an early 2015 GTI se (U.S. model) with mib1, MDI port, and Fender sound. Lots of little complications to deal with.
If you’re using Bluetooth audio, it’d be interesting to see if CarPlay apps (like the text to speech on messages, or from Google maps) would transmit over bt from the phone, or if they would be produced by the CarPlay box. if it’s the latter, then they might not play via bt audio.
@@mrpug999 Not yet, but I am planning to do it in the near future. I will let you know how it goes.
@@sendibadsaid7931 please keep us posted I’m in the same boat as Kevin
Heel dik man!
Werkt perfect!
Hi there ! I installed something similar in my Golf 7 2013, however I'm getting a bit of digital noise or interference in the audio signal from the aux input. I remember you had a video on some grounding you did to solve this, is it possible to see this video again ? Dank je ! :)
did you solve?
You could try to install an intake or better air filter in the box
Yeah maybe, i’ve heard from tuners that the gains aren’t really worth it..
I have as well, but it is a relatively cheap modification and can give a pretty good sound as well.
@@i-_-i_try-_-i2624 yes that’s true!!
Hi !
Is your rear Cam still works ?
That’s reaaaaaally interessant 👌🏼
Yes it still works!
@@Etienne0_o yep schakelt gewoon weer netjes terug!
Can i still install this even if i don’t have a CD player in the glovebox?
To get sound or music did you have to install the Ami Aux plug? On the homepage you should order it!?
I just installed the unit as shown in the video.
Music works fine for me!
Hi , I have a 2013 mk7 golf but doesn’t have Bluetooth at all will this device work in my car ?
Thks 😁
Yes. You can connect an aftermarket microphone
I just bought a Golf and it has Dynaudio sound system. It will work perfectly without lose quality from the sound system?
That’s right, but aux will in theory have a bit worse quality than BT.
What’s the dip setting for a 6.5 I have tried everything but don’t get it .. I don’t understand the chart
Hi FDM
Great video man.
My reverse camera does not work 🥴 how did made ur camera work? Do you have any fix for that?
BR
Ali
Hi Ali, check the camera settings in Carhome of the carplay unit, it has to be set to factory😉
@@ot2nie Great. Appreciate the reply 🙂 I'll try it out and let you know if it worked out for me 🙂

@@aliwajahatkhan8771 do you have the camera working now? I've the same issue.
@@stephansiera8164 hi. Yes it works perfectly now. You have to go in the settings for the carplay module, then advance settings and then choose original camera. :) Restart and it will work.
How easy is it to switch between android auto and the standard vw screens? Once the unit is installed
Very easy, just hold the car or media button for a sec!
Does this work via Bluetooth? And can you play Spotify and Apple Music? Also where can you get this from the UK?
I want to know this also
Would the stock controls and features still work if you install this?
I have a 2015 GTD with MDI instead of USB. Would this work with the existing steering wheel features for volume etc. and stock rear camera?
Yes those features will work!
Would like to see how you cleaned it up.
Here it is:

Did you upgrade to the 7” screen? I have a 2015 sportwagen with the MIB 1 system and the really small screen(I think it’s a 6”). Just wondering if I can upgrade to the 7 or 8”screen and just get this interface.
My screen is like this from factory!
I believe you can upgrade the screen yes, but wouldn’t it be more cost-effective to swap to an MIB2 unit directly?
You would have app-connect/carplay then from the oem unit😅😅
@@ot2nie Yeah, seems like it as the difference in cost is marginal at that point. Only thing that concerns me is I’ll have to find someone to do the VCDS coding since I have Fender audio. The 8” discover pro MIB 2 unit is about $1300 and the 9.2” MIB2.5 unit is about $2300. Not sure what to do yet but I want to do the MIB 2 so I can eventually swap to the virtual dash. But thank you for the quick response.
