Have to agree that if wearing this watch on your left hand you will experience the crown digging into the back of your hand. I now have a permanent scar due to this. One other thing is the bezel insert on earlier ones are not ceramic and scratch easily (these can be replaced, however not with a ceramic one but like for like). These are my only two gripes. All in all it’s from a stable renowned for making excellent Swiss timepieces since 1832. A good everyday watch, go for the automatic, you won’t be disappointed!
If the case back is a con, than what is the Rolex that doesn't have a thing, just a flat case. Besides you get one of the most beautiful case back you can find in any watch. So to me 0 cons . Nice review

Wow yeah I feel the same about mine. I have the same exact color as in the review and I’ve had mine since 2015. Never gave me any trouble. I had a tag Aquaracer before this and after 3 years it needed service on the automatic movement. This watch is just over 5 years old and it’s been going strong. No issues.
I have this model with the dark blue face, it’s a beautiful watch to look at and wear. I got it from my wife for our wedding, we had the money to buy a tag heuer of greater value but I thought this watch was perfect.

The crown guard is a bit polarizing, but I happen to love it as it is unique. I probably wouldn’t have ordered the HQ if it had the ubiquitous sub-case guards on it. Three things. Just my opinion… 1. When would you ever require a lumed bezel, aside from diving. I dive and I’ve never once thought a lumed bezel would be nice. 2. Don’t do push-ups wearing a watch with a steel bracelet. You could stretch it.😂 3. There is NO caseback cooler than this one. Look at it and love it! 🙂👍🏼👊🏼
I bought it specifically for the solid case back! Crystal case backs make my wrist sweat too much in the summer. I have had mine since 2014 (6years so far) Big con is the 21mm lug width but an Eulit perlon in 22mm works beautifully!!!
i`ve got my 39mm HydroConquest with the dark blue face and the quartz version. Even though im pretty young for such a watch (it was a present for graduating school) i wear it every day since 2017. Remarkable quality in every term for me.
Top watch, no cons! Built like a tank and the 39mm is spot on. I recently sold my 39mm HC after 3 year's plus of ownership and purchased the newer Ceramic bezel 41mm version which I regretted so have now purchased the old style 39mm HC again and the newer model is up for sale!
I love the 'no buttons', press closing, clasp on mine, which relies on just punched spreading the outside edges of 2 parts of the metal of the milled clasp to a fine enough tolerance that they just clamp together and hold on to another piece of milled metal that makes up the clasp, when you push them together. It's hard to describe but it says 'well thought out engineering', 'elegantly simple', 'less to break or go wrong' and 'reliable', to me. I understand the use of that mechanism is devisive among some people who own or have worn the watch but I'm firmly in the 'thumbs up' camp over that and I love it. I even like the motion of putting it on. It's a little bit 'bish, bash, bosh' and it's on. It's quite tough to open, you can hurt a fingertip a little bit when taking it off. It's odd to say this but I quite like that too. 'You like that taking your watch off can make your finger a little bit sore'? It does sound odd if you put it like that but 'yes', I definitely do. Maybe because it gives me the reassuring feeling that it had been clamped on to my wrist 'right good and proper' the whole time. Part of an overall feeling, I don't think you mentioned, that, along with the weight and few other things, it feels like a quite 'masculine' designed watch; in the sense that it feels reliable, robust and trustworthy, anyway. All that writing just, basically, about the clasp, ha. I'll let everybody know one more thing about the watch, too. Probably because of the L633 movement (modified ETA 2824-2) being a 'high torque' movement, like they say, the tick from this thing vibrates so loudly that, if laid on a table or bedside cabinet in a quiet room, say, next to you where you sleep, it can actually stop you from sleeping at night. Even just laid on a table in front of you, if everything else is quite enough, you can hear the thing beating quite clearly. I always have to put it down in a different room from the one where I sleep. A minor thing, not really a problem (I kind of like this about it too), that I've never experienced with Orient, Miyota or Seiko.
I discovered a trick for undoing the clasp. First unclip the small outer section (the bit with the logo) then insert your fingertip into the other end, in between the hinged end of the curved doubled up clasp and the bracelet links. Then slide your finger towards the inside of your wrist between the clasp and the links and the clasp just pops open with no effort.

BTW, did you know Longines have been putting the price up on these by 50, 50 and then £60 in the last 3 years (in the UK, anyway) for the 41mm auto model, with aluminum bezel insert, like the one in the vid? Nice, short review. Lovely looking watch and seems great value. I would say that the lug guard does look huge and seems to protrude out quite a bit. I think Longines should have gone a bit easier on that aspect. As for the glass back, I think they did the right thing having a steel cover. My Omega has a viewing back and I absolutely love it, however, the Longines movent is just a workhorse, more basic, movement that isn't designed to impress. So having a closed back makes sense. Overall though, I'm very impressed with this watch and seems like a perfect jump point/start point for a luxury watch or a perfect addition for experienced collectors just to boost their collection. Good review.
I bought this exact watch about 8 mos ago. I absolutely love it. It's gorgeous and it's a terrific deal since you can generally find this watch for $1,100ish. And for that $1,100ish I believe (of course I'm biased b/c I own one) that it's the finest watch in its category. For $1,100ish you're getting: 1.) a quality Swiss made watch from one of the more prestigious names in the biz, and 2.) a dive watch that's built very solidly and water resistant to 300 meters. This is a marvelous luxury watch for a reasonable price.
Only downside that I found was no half links in the Hydroconquest but it's easily remedied by purchasing a regular Conquest half link which is an identical bracelet.
i dont think it has AR coating, not on mine that is ... i hate the tinny sounding bezel, wished it had the newer ceramic bezel... better micro adjustment, lume could be better, tapered bracelet would be nice. With that said one of my favorite and heavy in rotation..I appreciate the originality of this time piece.

Put the watch on your opposite wrist and your lug guard issue will go away. I used to wear my Submariner on my left wrist until someone told me I had another wrist. Who knew?

The new ceramic bezel on the USA edition does have lume for the 50 mark (as well as the inverted triangle at 60), but it would be great if all of the markings were lumed. I think only the triangle is lumed on the other ceramic versions though. Plus, the retail price of the ceramic editions is 50% higher than the prior versions - ouch!

Only con maybe the crownguard that stick your hands. But if you were the watch on the position where it belongs also this is not a problem at all. The heavyweight is just perfect. You feel the quality of your watch and know exactly what you paid for.

The only element I hate on this watch are the shield 🛡 markers on the bezel .. the bezel should be simple , too many markers !!!!! Besides that , it’s a perfect watch 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
I sold my Longines because the crown and crown guards were digging into my wrist even with a Nato strap that I was wearing over the wrist bone. I bought a Nato strap because the watch is way too heavy with the steel bracelet. It looks great and that’s about it. I much prefer my Tissot Seastar that may be less impressive but more usable and comfortable
Did the nato fix your issue with the weight? I'm a tad concerned about it being too unruly on the steel bracelet and hope a nato works as an optional fix

@@K.J.H_ welcome, best of luck. I’ve since bought an Oris Divers Sixty Five 42mm, Tudor Black Bay 41mm and a Omega Speedmaster 42mm. All much more comfortable and obviously more expensive than the Longines unfortunately

a solid case back on a 300m dive watch is a con to you? You do realize that dive watches almost never have a glass case back and the ones that do are almost always posers that can't handle more than 100m depth? On top of that it is one of the most heavily engraved and pretty case backs out there.
After watching few videos on this watch on RUclips i decided to go and buy one today. Went for the two tone black and gold. Well I did untill I picked up the watch for the Frist time. Comparing the HC to my certina DS action diver, the HC feels light weight and feels like it's made out of tin, and just feels very cheap! Don't think ever been this disappointed before with a watch. Just pleased I never bought online, The watch was £960 but got the price down to £820 but still couldn't part with cash for such a cheap feeling watch. Just couldn't believe how cheap and nasty it felt in the hand. But on the plus side it did have great finish to the watch.
Put the number three back on the dial and then move the date between the number four and five pips and then you would have a more balanced dial: I would buy one. Also, I think a yellow dial with a yellow or black bezel would sell like "hotcakes".

You will proudly wear your "pre owned" Rolex assuming that those who see it will be fooled into believing that you are rich. You get far more for your money with the Hydroconquest, it really is ridiculously good value for money. Prices are going up year on year towards where the RRP should realistically be (£1200 here in the UK now, it was under £900 just a couple of years ago) but still better value than the Tag for sure.
By the way what is the size of your wrist? My is 7,5 inches and I’m thinking that the bigger 44 mm will be better for me. Currently I’m wearing 45 mm Casio 11 mm thick and it doesn’t look oversized on my wrist...
Nice review, I think to buy omega seamaster diver 300m blue version previous model not last or longines hydroconquest chronograph new model with ceramic bezel L3.783.4.96.6 which one is better choice, worth to pay 1000$ more in omega seamaster.
I know this is a late response, but I have am Aquaracer and have played around with the Hydroconquest. The Aquaracer is a step above in finishing. Its done very nicely, the dial is awesome, the bracelet is one of most (if not the most) comfortable Ive ever had.
Get an automatic. A quartz watch has no soul. If you truly want a quality Swiss time piece get the automatic. And an automatic isn't all that much more expensive than the quartz, they're both in about the same price range, go with the auto.
@@alnorris1954 Yeah they're bad. Generally, 40 turns is a rule of thumb and means you'll get pretty much any automatic watch wound up fully. If winding a manual wound only watch, turn until the resistance is too much.

I have the exact same watch. I like the quartz version because it is about 2mm thinner and I got it new for just $700.

I’ve had mine for two years. It’s never needed to be adjusted and still looks beautiful. I like the dial design (the new one looks too empty)

I have the 39mm blue quartz version. Got a deal on it for $700. The quartz is 2mm thinner. Looks great on my 7.25" wrist.

Lovely watch, although I prefer the updated ceramic bezel version. The blue version looks amazing.
I have one its amazing very very strong looking it can easily measure up to the rolex
I love this watch and own it. My only con is the lume. I feel like the lume is weak and doesn’t stay glowing log.

The aluminum bezel on the watch you reviewed does have a lume dot at the 12 O'clock position.

Do you know the lug to lug measurement? I know the 39mm version is 48mm, but i cannot find this info for the 41mm.
The only con i would have mentioned would be the fit between end links and the bracelet. Was expecting a better integration.

@@K.J.H_ It worked in the advantages of reducing the overall weight, making it more comfortable to wear. I still ended up selling it because the crown and guards were hurting too much

@@K.J.H_ welcome, best of luck. I’ve since bought an Oris Divers Sixty Five 42mm, Tudor Black Bay 41mm and a Omega Speedmaster 42mm. All much more comfortable and obviously more expensive than the Longines unfortunately

a solid case back on a 300m dive watch is a con to you? You do realize that dive watches almost never have a glass case back and the ones that do are almost always posers that can't handle more than 100m depth? On top of that it is one of the most heavily engraved and pretty case backs out there.
After watching few videos on this watch on RUclips i decided to go and buy one today.
Went for the two tone black and gold.
Well I did untill I picked up the watch for the Frist time.
Comparing the HC to my certina DS action diver, the HC feels light weight and feels like it's made out of tin, and just feels very cheap!
Don't think ever been this disappointed before with a watch.
Just pleased I never bought online,
The watch was £960 but got the price down to £820 but still couldn't part with cash for such a cheap feeling watch.
Just couldn't believe how cheap and nasty it felt in the hand. But on the plus side it did have great finish to the watch.
Put the number three back on the dial and then move the date between the number four and five pips and then you would have a more balanced dial: I would buy one. Also, I think a yellow dial with a yellow or black bezel would sell like "hotcakes".
Is it ok for wrist size of 6,7 inch to go for 41mm size of watch?

No that seems fine, not perfect calibration on Longines' side but there's not a problem with your movement.
When you service it though you could ask your local watch maker to fix that small issue.

They will again charge you the cost of another Hydroconquest, to service your Rolex in a few years, and you will happily pay not knowing that you are not getting anything of real value in return. You get far more for your money with the Hydroconquest, it really is ridiculously good value for money. Prices are going up year on year towards where the RRP should realistically be (£1200 here in the UK now, it was under £900 just a couple of years ago) but still better value than the Tag for sure.

I believe all the L3.742... from 2017 onwards are l888 with the 64 hours reserve unless you got one earlier or from an older stock perhaps?
in case you are still wondering, the new caliber with 62 hours reserve is the 888, the older one being 619 with 40-something

I have a 7" wrist and have the 44mm.. absolutely perfect fit. The 44mm has more wrist presence IMO . Buy one, and you wont regret it.

I know this is a late response, but I have am Aquaracer and have played around with the Hydroconquest. The Aquaracer is a step above in finishing. Its done very nicely, the dial is awesome, the bracelet is one of most (if not the most) comfortable Ive ever had.
The Tag is immensely overpriced!

Lug guards will hurt if you wear them halfway up your hand like here.

Get an automatic. A quartz watch has no soul. If you truly want a quality Swiss time piece get the automatic. And an automatic isn't all that much more expensive than the quartz, they're both in about the same price range, go with the auto.

@@alnorris1954 Yeah they're bad. Generally, 40 turns is a rule of thumb and means you'll get pretty much any automatic watch wound up fully. If winding a manual wound only watch, turn until the resistance is too much.
