I was like that except that while going vegetarian and giving up meat wasn't much of a struggle (it was just a matter of learning cooking with tofu for me tbh) I was like "I could never give up cheese and milk chocolate". Then it was my girlfriend that eventually made me aware that the dairy industry was as screwed up and full of abuse as meat industry and then it became a no brainer. Sure, it was a bit of a struggle at first but I finally found alternatives. And I see more and more of cool stuff popping up in stores so I feel like every next person that wants to go vegan will have it a lot easier than you or me. Give it a couple of years and it will become so easy there will be like no excuses left. We just need to keep spreading awareness because it sounded to me like they guy here wasn't ever aware that it's actually possible to be a body builder and a vegan at the same time. So it only goes to show that the reason many people aren't vegan is because they think that we're still at the "it tastes like cardboard and has no proteins" stage. But seeing that we can do something to open the kids' minds up a bit I feel even more motivated for fighting towards the change :)

I wanted to go vegetarian back when I lived with my parents but that was back before one ever heard of veganism. It is all so easy to do now, and I find absolutely no viable excuse not to stop eating any animal products. Soy milk was revolutionary in the 80s and now there are so many different types of plant-based milks and our taste buds do change. I came to dislike cow's milk a lot after moving away from drinking it and using it on cereals and cooking. These kids are simply doing what their parents and friends do and some people never get away from that at all. @@petrov706 depends on your definition of sentience I guess. You could say plants and fungi don’t have the same cult-like activism that animals do in regard to studying their “feelings”. Fallaciousness aside, there are plenty studies of plants and fungi displaying traits of rudimentary intelligence, like responses to stimuli out side of those typically found in nature like music, spatial awareness and decision making (especially in regards to sources of nutrition), and the rudiments of what we might perceive as short term memory. My point is that, despite the lack of neurons, they display many of the complex behaviors that could be associated with cognition. So where do we draw the line? Because, we don’t have a concrete understanding of plant and fungal “neurobiology” we should treat them differently? That being said, I eat my spinach just as easily as my steak.

As an example, most forms of AI are intelligent but aren't necessarily sentient, on the flip side, koalas are sentient but aren't particularly smart. Sentience means something like having a subjective experience, in other words, an organism is sentient if and only if it feels like something to be that organism. Now technically we can't know for sure that any organism is sentient (including other humans).
But we can infer it, as an example. If I'm a sentient organism and I see another organism that acts exactly the same as I do, it makes more sense to assume that that organism is sentient. now having said that, not to be rude or anything, but you have not met your burden of proof for plant sentience. Could you provide studies or an argument that actually show plant sentience? Not intelligence.

    • @johnnyjohnson1027
      @johnnyjohnson1027 2 месяца назад

@@petrov706 right…intelligence doesn’t equal sentience but sentience doesn’t equal sapience. I’ve never been for killing nigh-sapient species like elephants, dolphins, parrots, etc. I said what I said previously to point out that arguments for both sides are subjective based on personal beliefs. There are plenty of studies noting instances of joy, pain, and fear in animals, aka traits that enhance survivability. Yes, humans share these too, but we also have abstract elements of cognition such as wisdom and innovation. Ultimately, there is no burden of proof because what I’m sharing is an opinion, much like veganism itself. It’s a question of subjective morality that most people don’t share. While the dependence upon animal products has objectively existed for millennia. I also have problems with factory farming mostly due to the prevalence of novel disease, destruction of natural habitats, etc. People have to eat and our entire infrastructure is built around meat. Barring some radical change in legislation, it’s not going to change. If one didn’t believe humans were a higher level of being than animals, why would they expect humans to experiment beyond their nature of eating meat for the sake of morality?

I don't wanna compare people but I've seen the "Militant Vegan " woman & she's quite intense.
I dunno... I guess u need some fiery activists, some calm ones & some Inbetweeners.
I was always mad back in the day when all the activism was directed at animal testing.
It's all cool but my ears would hurt badly if I worked with the militant vagan woman 'god bless' her ..

I was not getting enough protein, because of the plant-based diet.
I know this because, i did not even know what i was eating. I did not know what i was eating, but... yea... so it was not the plant-based diet then.

I want to be an ethical raw vegan. Shuffle between juice fast, fruitarianism and raw veganism. Quite literally the absolute god level quality of our short life experience will be super-achieved by strictly following the above 3 and never touching meat or animal products ever.

I couldn't and probably wouldn't do any of those diets. I eat some food raw (fruits, nuts, tomatos, lettuce etc.) but cruciferous vegetables (leafy greens), lentils, some seeds like quinoa, potatoes, onions, beets, rice have all to be cooked to remove toxins and to make the nutrients more bioavailable. At the same time all those vegetables are essential to get a broad range of nutrients on a plant based diet.
Some honest questions as I haven't done both of the diets (I'm whole food plant based mixed with "junk" food):
      1. How does a raw plant based diet work without all those vegetables I listed which are a staple in a balanced plant based diet? Are you eating raw tofu on a raw diet?
      2. Where do you get your protein from on a fruitarian diet?
      EDIT:
      3. Where do you get minerals and fat from on a fruitarian diet?

@@fiberologist I left a response and came back to check but looks like it has been removed by youtube bots. Maybe it has to do with the link. I was just saying I am not yet a raw vegan but willing to be one and surely will in the future. I'm not fully educated on it yet but I got my inspiration from someone called 'Gillian Berry'. Specifically look up her interview with 'Shane Sterling'. If I look half as good as he does when I'm his age... I'd be double happy. That's what gave me inspiration and convinced me raw veganism is the best thing you could do for your body while unknowingly also benefit the environment and animals in particular.

04:55 You should have told them that you've never eaten meat in your life. They're just assuming that you grew up eating loads of meat and dairy and didn't switch until adulthood yet you're telling them to do what they think you didn't.

Wow, that's such a triggered response you had. How come those who are against the abuse and exploitation of someone makes you want to double down and cause more harm? And then to declare it with your full chest as if it's not weird, yikes.

"Let kids be kids" Good to see someone sticking up for the goats. No one wants to see "surplus" dairy kids slaughtered so that we can take their milk.

They are only sixteen, they have mostly to this point eaten what their parents or guardians forced them to.
If you were to take it to the environmental aspect, young people should really be taught about the damage animal agriculture does.

I agree they shouldn't be given a hard time. But they're old enough to start making their own decisions and to know the consequences of their choice of diet.
