Okay so, I did a rescue on a snail in my garden 😅 his shell was cracked so I repaired it with eggshell (it's a thing! lol) and it was super stressed and as a stress response they buzz and foam out slime like crazy! So I am inclined to believe they do intentionally stress them to collect more mucin.
woah. u rescued a snail. thanks for the awesome job
Poor thing..thanks for helping him, we shouldn’t use or abuse animals, they have se much right to live as we do
When they're stressed they do release more slime, but it's toxic. For the slime to be beneficial for the skin and not toxic the snail can't be stressed
Can u give me some tips? I took a snail home with me yesterday and did mix some Eggshells and Soil together. Up till now nothing looks changed. I took her home since the shell was really thin, dry and faling appart in some areas.😅 ( Also i did add some green from the nearby park as well). Its my first time doing this and I am actually really nervouse and dont know if it will help.😶🧿 At the moment she is vibing on one bigger eggshell pice.
@@lisal.1114 few days late so I hope everything's going well, but her on the eggshell piece is good! I believe the eggshells work because the snails eat it, and the calcium is what helps them with their shells, so as long as you leave the eggshells out in the open she'll slowly eat them and get better
I use the Cosrx Snail Mucin Power Essence and they do say on their website that the snails are placed over a mesh in a quiet, dark room and left to roam freely, leaving their mucin behind. I don’t know anything about how snails live or how one might care for or feed a snail but I do like that Cosrx seems to care for the well-being of the snails they use for their product. The website also says that no external pressure is applied to force mucin production.
Does snail mucin improve skin?
Do you see any difference with it in your routine?
I’m still on the fence about it because it’s just- idk- like slimy and idk. I just feel a little hesitant to touch it
@@user-mi8xf8tq1z it’s really not that bad for me personally. It’s just more of like a thick serum texture. It’s less sticky on the skin than the hyaluronic acid cream I use from cosrx. It gives a lot of moisture to the skin. All I do is use one pump for the bottom of my face and a half pump for my forehead. I just rub it into the skin and pat. It dries down well and I’ve heard of people with really oily skin using it as their only moisturizer before makeup. I don’t notice it at all after I apply my morning moisturizer on top. A little goes a very long way so the bottle lasts a long time.
@@irisn668 so it’s not a slimy texture. Ok
I don’t know where I got the idea that it might be yucky. I guess I have a slight phobia or anything that crawls
@@user-mi8xf8tq1z It does feel kind of slippery, but not sticky at all. It's stringy when you have it on your hands and pull them apart, or when you tap it on your face, so to me it's fun to play with when I put it on lol
@@user-mi8xf8tq1z yessss. So it's kinda sticky on skin with only that but it really works wonders, but I'd recommend their snail mucin cream coz that really hydrated Ur skin. For me I have really dry skin n that cream hydrated my skin so much n reduced the acne caused coz of the constant irritation I get
im not going to lie, as a snail lover who knows lots about snails and has had hundreds of snails of my own, snails produce WAY more mucus when they are scared, leading me to believe that the companies would not choose the “kinder” option because of how much less profitable it would be
When the snails are scared they produce toxic ones
In order for it to not be toxic they need to not be scared sk
@charlie-hy1jt Please chk ur facts before posting. TY 😊❤️
@@livelife069 ok, what are the facts then

@@gidol3790 you're welcome!
Giving me Chelsea vibes from that's so raven with the animal cruelty lol. Thank you so much for finding us a vegan version of snail mucin
Sharing this one on every skincare Facebook groep I know. Thank you so much Cassandra for finding cruelty free options. That is why I follow you.
I‘ve been using this product for two months now and it really helped with repairing my damaged skin barrier! (great for sensitive skin)
Hi Zero, thank you for commenting and sharing your results. I feel the same way and glad you are happy with this, makes me so happy.
Finally someone called all the "cruelty free" claims of snail mucin which research doesn't really back and it seems a lot of hogwash to me. People need to do their own research before believing these claims. Thank you for this! As a person following a vegan and cruelty free lifestyle, your content is really helpful for me.
Thank you for this!! I’m an ethical
Vegan too and no way could I intentionally wear animal byproducts like that that came from harming any sentient beings. I’m excited to give that product and vegan brand a try ❤🙏🏼
I'm LOVING the Vegreen serum. It's even got peptides (plus copper peptide!) in it. And a much more pleasant application than snail mucin.
Peptides don’t actually get into the skin.
I have it also but how can you tell what's in it? It's in some Asian type language which really tics me off! 🙄
@@brandi1294 Yes, they do. COLLAGEN doesn't get into the skin because it's too big. Peptides, which are mere fragments of proteins, are small enough to penetrate. Now the jury is still out on whether they do what manufacturers say they do once they're in there. Science is ongoing. At the very least, they are good hydrators, so there's no harm in using them, and many peptide products are inexpensive enough that you aren't wasting much money if it turns out they aren't as effective as advertised. Some brands, like Stratia, are even using "carrier" peptides, which help active peptides operate in a focused manner and get where they're going once they enter the skin.
@@johnmichaelarnaud they don’t get past the top layers of the skin which is where they are needed to do what they claim they do. Sitting at the top just acts like a barrier to keep moisture in.
@@brandi1294Not all peptides are the same, so you can't paint them with a broad brush. They are different sizes. Some DO penetrate the skin. And those that might not can be formulated with penetration-enhancers or encapsulated to accompany carrier peptides to get down in there. I can't speak to every formulation on the market, and there are some that undoubtedly act only as humectants, but there is a lot of good research out there to support their use and efficacy. I'll just leave it at that.
It's so cool how all these skincare scientists are discovering these things!!
I do know that the way the brand CosRX collects it is in like a dark room and they just move around on mesh and it is said that they are happy. Wether this is true or not is still not 100% true but also it is said that if they weren’t happy then the quality would be bad
I just don't believe that, it is impossible to harvest enough that way for mass production at that price and at those concentrations that they claim to have. The quality claim is also something I couldn't find any info on, except that there are specific types of snails that secrete toxins when stressed so they are not used for neither food nor cosmetics.
i just don't believe that. I go by the rule: if t sounds too good to be true - it is.
Sorry no offence but a little information... snails love dark places to roam around and they don’t like sunlight /bright places....not to mention if snails are scared/stressed they release toxic mucin, which can't be used...so....
I trust Cosrx with the snails.
@@user-cp5js2be1v
You could say that about ANY cruelty-free cosmetics or skincare in that case. Like, where do you draw the line?
Omg you literally read my mind, Cass. I was actually wanting to ask you about phyto mucins from yams.
Stressed snails create the slime texture needed for these A lot of time they’re squeezed
There is no way I'm using it. Ever. Snails are friends not cosmetics products.
The brand CORSX doesn't harm the snails, they are happy in a dark room put on top of mesh to freely move around, if the snails are not happy then the mucin wouldn't be high quality CORSX is a cruelty free brand
@@dearcupid. That's just what they say, they have never demostrated it though and given all the info there is on snails and how much they actually secrete then it is not plausible at all for them to harvest enough for the concentrations they claim and at the pricepoint they have.
@Morgiana Sartre okay but they can't just lie about it. They would be in huge trouble
@@dearcupid. Who would really be checking? As far as I know cruety free is not a regulated term so it isn't illegal to lie about it, they don't have any third party cruelty-free certifications either. So no legal trouble with that. If they just never invite any influencers into their facilities to make videos about it - no issues with image and status either. So no, they can't get into trouble by just lying on their website. Brands have lied about and done more for less and gotten away with it, like Mario Badescu putting steroids in their products, paid off a lawsuit and silenced the whole thing, they are still around and apparently doing great with plenty of influencers endorsing their new "trendy" products.
@@dearcupid. I'm pretty sure it's a lie
There's no way they are able to produce so much product with less snail secretion
And considering the fact that some people can get allergic reaction from snail mucin.. that's a great option..
Bless you 💚🌱
Yesssssss Yam Mucin! Sounds good!!! I'm into vegan skincare too cannot stand cruelty-yes products
@AikoHiraeth. I guess u wear plastic shoes? Hmm🤔. Great for the environment.
@@livelife069 What environment? It's already past the point of saving, we are heading toward 2 degrees warming.
Bees have to be happy and healthy to create honey and vegans don’t eat or use honey products either.
So, I’m not sure about all this.
😵💫
Not really. They have to not be dying, sure, but industrial honey is harmful to the bees
As a vegan, to me it’s about not viewing animals as a resource and respecting them in their place. I know it gets iffy with bees, personally I stay away from most bee products but if I buy something on accident I don’t return it as it likely will just get thrown out.
@@butterflygirl7254That’s taking it a little far though because it seems needlessly restrictive and where do you even draw the line? I understand not wanting to eat animals but using what’s already there or using animals for something they do instinctively (such as farm cats used for rodent control) doesn’t harm you or them.
On farms, lactating cows need to be milked because their udders can become engorged and very painful. Since they need to be milked, why not consume that milk instead of wasting it or letting them suffer? Same with chickens, they’ll produce eggs with or without males, so why not eat their eggs instead of just letting them go bad? For eggs, milk, and even honey, you can make the argument that consumption is unnecessary because there are vegan alternatives *but* it completely dismisses the fact that those “better” alternatives may very well be produced through unethical means or be harmful to the environment in a different way. Coconut oil is popular among vegans yet it became highly controversial when it was discovered that many manufacturers were using trained monkeys to pick coconuts. Agave sweetener, a popular alternative to white sugar and honey, has also come under scrutiny because of sustainability concerns as well as exploitative labor practices.
@@Andy-xx3ttWoah…I never looked at veganism from that standpoint! Personally, I’m all in support for being vegan and living without the use of animal products but from what you’re saying, if done ethically, we’re not actually contributing to the suffering of another animal(Wish animal cruelty wasn’t a concept known to man) and can actually be looked at as a natural way of living. Kind of like how certain species of fish feed on what’s left in a whale’s mouth. It comes at no negative cost to the whale and is actually beneficial for them. Thank you for providing me with this perspective☺️
Loveeeee it girl, if you’re unsure it’s best to stay away is what I always say.
I love it when you show us vegan alternatives❤❤❤❤
The bean essence from mixsoon is also a good alternative to snail mucin
Their bean cream is also really good
Bean? Is it made from beans?😅
AGREE ❤ I’m using the essence and it’s actually so good. my skin is usually combo but this winter it has been terribly dry. the bean essence literally saved my skin from peeling
I was really hoping not to see a comment like this.
Its a bean essence, its made with beans. You cannot expect snail mucin results with beans. They dont even do the same thing and they dont aim to do the same thing.
I agree with your assessment 100%. The company that makes "not milk" is using an AI algorithm to help them take plant ingredients to make dupes for animal products. What we may not realize is that a lot of the compounds animals produce are also produced by plants, albeit in different quantities. The AI will come up with a "recipe" that details the quantities of specific ingredients that will replicate the chemical signatures of the desired animal products. I would love to see that technology put to work for skin care!
Ohhh yesss! Because I tried snail and I broke out in hives. Turns out im allergic but for my mom her skin did wonders with it!! I want to try that!

Now I gotta know which snails they use so I can keep them as pets. I already love snails as pets but the added benefit of their mucin is just.. Amazing.
The mucin they use is purified. If you used random mucin collected from a snail you could end up with a bad skin reaction.

take this with a grain of salt, but my mom worked in a cosmetics company where they produced snail products. there it was said that the manufacturer of the mucin had the snails crawl on a sandpaper like surface to collect the mucin. i dont know about you, but thats enough for me personally to not buy snail related products. love that there's a cruelty free vegan alternative out there now!

When I was 8 I did put a snail on my face, were I usally had little white pimples, they never came back for years, but it was weird to have snail on your face while driving a bike.😅
I’ve been wanting to try (vegan) mucin for a while now! Thank you for this. Quick question: where do plug the mucin in my skincare routine? Should I replace some products with the mucin. Are there actives I should avoid while using the mucin? Any help/recommendation would be much appreciated! 💙
The picture you use of tha "Washingmachine" is in fact A Snail saving dutch invention. That is the perfect way to harvest snail-slime without harming the animals.
A good alternative if you don’t want your try snail mucin is the mixsoon bean essence, it has a similar texture and benefits to the cosrx snail mucin!
I'd love to try this!! I havent ever tried a snail mucin serum either before for the same reasons.
I tried the peach slices snail toner and I absolutely loved it helped with my redness and overall hydration if they made this into a toner like that one is I’d definitely try it and if it was just as affordable.
Im not vegan but ive always been a fierce protector of bugs and insects because they are so important and to see people concerned about snails being stressed out makes me happy

I always feel so incredibly bad when its snail season and I 100% accidently step on snails. I cry in those moments because I don't do it on purpose and it's such a small animal 😢
My sis when she was a child and it was lady bug season would have lady bug funerals when they'd start to gather in our windows as their final spot and my mom was giving lady bug funerals like crazy 😅
I mean, each to their own but some of you on here are just acting overly dramatic. Come on! Get real. Nothing & no one is perfect. Don't be such a bleeding heart. It's almost like you are preforming for everyone. Like, how old are you? 🙄
@@livelife069 old enough to know that every life matters. In time you too will understand. Or not. It depends on if you want to educate yourself.
I think there has to be a line drawn somewhere with the whole vegan thing. For example, driving. When driving, you are killing hundreds and hundreds of bugs. We see them splattered all over the front of the vehicle. Same for walking. We will be standing on ants and all sorts of other similar things. Now I understand that snails are not actually insects, but my point still stands. The line needs to be drawn somewhere. Of course, the most sensible thing would be for everyone to make their own line, but I get the impression that being part of the vegan community, you are almost being watched and judged by other vegans. “I’m a better vegan than you” kinda thing. It leads to things like this, where you actually feel that it is ethically acceptable, but the peer pressure and fear of judgment make you choose against using it; rather than actually deciding based on your own assessment of the ethics around that particular product.
100% imagine wanting to do something but being afraid of what someone you don't know thinks, even when nothing was harmed. seems really like a hive mind mentality, do as I do or you suck lol idk.
Of course, everyone kills insects just by walking etc, that's why there is "as far as is possible and practicable" in the most commonly accepted description of veganism. Medical treatments are also tested on animals, and it would be wild for someone to refuse life-saving medication just for this.
But tbh, vegan or not, everyone draws their own line at a different point. Some people would refuse to eat cats or dogs. Some people would refuse to eat horses. Some people would refuse to eat cows. Vegans try to refuse anything that is linked to animal exploitation, but I'm sure most of them don't think eating oysters or using snail mucin products is as bad as eating pigs.
I agree that some of them should take a step back and realize that there is no need to be 'perfect' in their consumption choices. But snail mucin is not a necessity so it's still commendable to avoid it if it goes against your morals.
@HarryDunlopClark
You are absolutely right! I agree wholeheartedly! Yay!👏👏👏 @
snail mucus is not a necessity .. 🙄
Wow! Interesting. Didn’t know you were vegan! 💚💚💚
Thank you for not paying for unnecessary animal abuse.
it took me months to realise that the product was made of ACTUAL snail mucin 😭
How..? It says by Cosrx for example specifically it's 96% or 92% snail mucin.. What else should it be?
The cosrx snail muscine has done wonders for my partners eczema.
Another alternative is the mixsoon bean essence. It has very similar texture, and from what I heard is vegan.

hada labo premium gokujyun lotion is a great alternative
@CassandraBankson there is a bean version also “mixsoon bean essence”

what about honey? collecting honey doesnt hurt bees. i know youre vegan but the logic in this video compared to what youve said previously confuses me
and im not saying one way is bad and one is good im just a little confused
She cited research that said it comes from stress and stated her own confusion about it
@@TC-ku4vv that doesnt make a whole lot of sense, bees make honey in the wild, too.
No company kills the snails to extract their mucin. However, the conditions in which snails are kept in snail farms and in the lab are far from ethical.
Snails are placed in small spaces with soils; these spaces are often overcrowded, snails have little place to move, there are no trees and plants growing. Sometimes some leaves are being thrown into the soil, but farmers don’t bother with imitating natural habitat of snails. They control the humidity level, the temperature of air and the composition of the soil, but it’s not the same as to how snails live in the wild. Even though snails are well-fed, given time to regenerate after mucin extraction (because it’s a stressful process for snails) and their basic needs are met, they still experience a lot of stress in those snail farms and live in far worse conditions than in the wild.
Snails rarely see the sky or any nature because they usually are kept in greenhouses. And once again, for profit maximisation, farmers try to pack as many snails in the space as possible (there is a limit, because snails don’t reproduce very well in super tightly packed populations, however, the way they live is still tightly packed, just the number is slightly lower to allow for reproduction). These conditions are stressful and are not the same as conditions in which snails live and reproduce in the wild.
There are almost no free range snail farms.
The extraction itself, including in the labs in Korea, in the past and sometimes still now, often physically hurt the snails. They could be placed in the water with salt and vinegar or hurt physically because snails produce their mucin when in stress.
Nowadays, there are non-invasive methods of snail mucin extraction, like the one CosRX claims to employ, but 1) no cosmetic company actually let observers into their labs to witness the extraction process. It’s all very secretive, so we have to rely on their words;
2) not every lab and not every company uses non-invasive extraction methods. Often times, even if the snails are not killed, they are hurt and put under physical and emotional stress. And once again, most companies do not disclose how exactly the snail mucin was extracted;
3) even when labs use non-invasive methods of mucin extraction and do not hurt the snails, the snails are still kept in far from ethical conditions in the lab and in snail farms.
Given all of that, snail mucin is hardly cruelty-free or ethical.
If we start having free range snail farms, where snails have more space to move, they are not overly crowded and the conditions imitate natural environment; the snails are given enough time to regenerate after the mucin extraction and the labs would be more open to certification and audit from animal rights groups, only in that case snail mucin becomes cruelty-free and ethical.

You should research the process of harvesting snail mucin instead of promoting a false narrative. No cruelty.
She said it depends how you define cruelty. Some people consider taking them out of their natural environment cruel
Brands have literally shown the devices they use to forcefully get snails to secrete mucin. Many brands use cruel methods to harvest snail mucin.
Not all of them do like cosrx and a small handful of others and let them just vibe and collect the mucin after; and for vegans even that may be a bit much.
Its not a false narrative when there are videos that show how some brands get it
@@megleland6320 iirc i think its some of the ones in italy and/or france that use those machines she spoke of
Can you point to any credible sources about that (not just brands saying that on their websites)? All the science I could find on it points to it being pretty much impossible to be cruelty free.
They use a chemical to "arouse" the snail. They chemically turn on the snails. I love it
There's also a chance it doesn't work well with your skin anyway - allergies or no, some people have reported an increase in millia when using snail mucin.
I absolutely love the CosRX snail mucin❤️I have dry skin and it makes my face feel smooth and plump and hydrated😍

Yea but, how can we trust companies they say they are totally "vegan, and cruelty free"? They do anything ro make money after all 🤷🥺
My dad is in the snail mucin industry and told me how they get it. The snails basically crawl on a mesh sheet in the dark and the mucin drips down. It doesn’t hurt the snail they just do their snail things. 🐌 BUT, the company my dad is in bought these machines to make the process go quicker. I’m guessing it spins like a washing machine and the snails crawl on it faster?
omg you vegan too? thank youu🌱
yeah she said it like 10 times
Can we have a review of the new Dermatica non-prescription products please? I see them on the shelf in the background. I have been planning to try some of them but I’d like to know if especially the cleansers are worth it ♥️ Ta
I’m curious if you eat rucola cause every time I buy it there are dead snails in it
Why people are becoming monsters, they got everything still want more and more, and now collecting mucin of snails🤦♀️those mucin is to protect the snail to not to get harmed by sharp objects on the surface. If they collect the mucin by forcing them how they live, after all they do everything just for skincare products it's just disgusting what they're going to do with perfect skin after killing all the creatures 😭.
I’m allergic to seafood/shellfish and I’m scared to use this lol
Snails have nothing to do with seafood, but the mucin does cross-react with dust mite allergies.
My snails live in my backyard, if they're going to stay on my land they need to work.
All that skincare girl do a give away !
There is always a vegan alternative for anything 💚💚💚
Does glycerin work the same way?
For the texture? Kind of. But they don't do exactly the same. Either way, there is glycerin in almost every serum and moisturizer and even in some toners, so you don't need to buy a separate product just for the glycerin
everytime i use a snail mucin i get lil bumps on my forehead
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
I learned the hard way that I’m allergic to snails. Face looked and felt like I laid out in the sun for 62 years straight.
Lol. Sorry about that
MIXSOON!! MIXSOON!!! MIXSOON BEAN ESSENCE!!
Can’t we just all get our own pet snails and ensure their happiness and grab some off of the tank?
I only have one thing to say about snail mucin … ewwwww!
Me, a etomteolgist (bug scientist) would NEVER use snail mucous I’ve been asked by many beauty brands to help with farming it I’ve have LAWAYS said no. I have a bug and insect preserve that I run so it would just go against everything I worked toward
i swear ive seen you so many times before
@@tanukifox8041 thank you?
